10 hours 9 min ago | The Draft Finder... |
The Draft Finder is a double-edged sword if you're a Lions fan, or at least I am discovering this as I play around with searching the historical picks of the Lions by round. For example, I had nearly forgotten we took Charles Rogers 2nd overall in 2003......*turns around in office chair, stares at wall* |
12 hours 17 min ago | I Could Be Wrong... |
I could be wrong, and someone closer to the industry can correct me, but a lot of this was driven by Hackett's "fitness" initiatives and raising their corporate profit margin from something like 5% to 8%, which makes the fact that it would take that many model cuts to do kind of interesting to me. I do know that, at least as of a few model years ago, most of the vehicles in the Top 10 of "most profitable" were SUVs and crossovers. I don't even remember seeing a sedan or anything not meant to carry a battalion, come to think of it. |
13 hours 16 min ago | Picking Hurst... |
I don't know that it would be outright "dumb", but it wouldn't be my favorite at #20 certainly. While we need help up front on defense, I kind of want another DE if we're going to address that first in the draft, someone to compliment Ansah. I could be talked into an LB there too, but I would rather the first pick address defense. Just me though. |
13 hours 24 min ago | Interesting... |
I like how, in a moment where a democratic decision probably might not be the best thing for a coach to make given the circumstances and a long and well-formed assessment might be in order, he's going to leave it to the team to decide. I find that rather illuminating with regards to Mark Dantonio. |
1 day 2 hours ago | About That... |
Given the number of appearances of the referenced line / meme on this blog, I think the only logical conclusion is that we never did it in the first place around here. Still, we're hopeful that one day the question will be asked and that we'll be able to answer if it had once ben achieved. "PHRASING!" "On MGoBlog?" "Oh, yeah. Disregard." |
1 day 8 hours ago | Not As Bad... |
That's not as bad as the person on Detroit radio yesterday that wanted a QB at #20: |
1 day 10 hours ago | Interesting... |
I wonder if the response fromboth Michigan and OSU begins: "Mrs. Frost, Regarding your recent comments on the state of Nebraska football...." |

Here's the PDF. Regarding one-and-dones: The one-and-done regime may have provided some benefts for the NBA and the NCAA in the past, but all stakeholders agree that the downsides now outweigh any benefts. There have been mutterings from the NBA that the practice is no longer desired in some corners as well, mostly because of what some owners and even folks high up in the league called a lack of leadership on teams. I remember discussing these articles extensively on this very site last year at some point. |
2 days 5 hours ago | Meanwhile... |
My wife has decided to begin her rewatch of "Hannibal" since the Tigers are currently in a weather delay and I temporarily gave up the TV. My kids just came into the room to complain that the dog is, and I quote, "doing the gross thing with her crotch", which in this case means she's cleaning up down there. So, it's a normal Tuesday here. |
2 days 12 hours ago | Very Strange... |
Oh, that's all we need downriver.....the ACTUAL Rick Pitino. In all seriousness though, I can't see Pitino ending up at Detroit Mercy, or really anywhere at this point. At this point, what is the motivation for any school to even seriously consider him? |
3 days 4 hours ago | About That... |
I don't know that it is that simple for Maizen. I think he understands stars, but demands absolute perfection in every single aspect from the coaches, players and even the administrative staff in the athletic department. Anything less is an inexcusable failure. |
3 days 8 hours ago | Even Better... |
Even better, they wouldn't even have to build a new facility - Alabama's football facilities can house most known sports in a pinch along with spectators. Not that they intended to do this, of course, but when you see the photos..... |
3 days 11 hours ago | Not At All... |
Oh, not at all. Let's look at it this way, if people would like an opinion on it... 1) It will begin with a debate on the overall merits of the joke, taking into account the admittedly overplayed "father-daughter" trope in Western humor and the societal problems of violence in general.....so on and so forth. In other words, whether or not you found it funny, it is ultimately a debate which will go nowhere and do nothing to advance dialogue. 2) Inevitably, someone will make a remark about gun control and the Second Amendment, and whatever your personal take on the issue, there's no way it will end well on this blog. My Twitter and the Mod Sticky will come alive with links to the worst of the hot takes in all major schools of thought on this and the thread would go anyway. If that's what you want on MGoBlog, that's weird. |
3 days 15 hours ago | Very Cool Indeed... |
Very cool indeed, and reading about some of the things that are going to be core to the school, it sounds like it will be an awesome place. The EMU Charter Schools Office is behind some of the more interesting schools in the Detroit area really - Global Tech in Ypsilanti, the Detroit Public Safety Academy and several others. They are all pretty small but have some intriguing missions and visions. |
3 days 17 hours ago | You Know... |
I still cannot fathom why this was such an emergency or even a priority for Michigan that Notre Dame be reintroduced to the schedule. I would have been fine with this being a filler game when both teams could make it work, which probably wouldn't have been that often (and I would be OK with that), but the department made this a "must do" and I still don't get it. I've raised this question before, and I've asked people I know who might know themselves, but I still cannot wrap my mind around this one. |
4 days 4 hours ago | My Two Cents... |
You know, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect other than perhaps, on the high end of my estimate, this is a .500 team at absolute best, and they'll likely fall short of that - well short. That being said, 9-11 is the sort of start that I thought they might be able to achieve, although May and June may be lean months, looking at the schedule. Trying not to have too many expectations in what is the first year of a rebuild has kept me from being too down. They'll probably be able to push around teams like the Royals and White Sox a bit, but that Cleveland performance is probably something we're going to see quite a bit sadly. I will agree with that article though - all this aside, this team is actually more fun to watch than you would think. |

4 days 10 hours ago | The Highlands... |
In that case, it would be even less surprising that his family found their way to Port Huron as James VI (among others in Scotland) made certain that the Highlands themselves were ....oh...... unkind to the MacGregors. |
4 days 17 hours ago | I Mean... |
I mean, I can see a scenario where you get on the plane and, in those few hours of flight, struggle philosophically with the feeling that your material possessions are inadequate and ultimately meaningless. Deciding that they are exactly that, you land at your destination and leave your possessions for some poor sod who hasn't reached your newfound level of enlightenment. The only drawback is that there is business meeting somewhere in the mix and you should at least brush your teeth, which you now cannot do without a stop at a pharmacy, thus beginning the cycle of possessing things all over again. |
5 days 8 hours ago | Very Sad News... |
Wow. Unexpected and sad. From The Guardian's article on his passing: The family statement did not give a cause of death but it added: “Depression and suicide are very serious issues. You never know what kind of battle someone is going through inside. Be kind to one another. And always know, it’s never too late to reach out to someone for help.” |
5 days 12 hours ago | Hollywood Squares... |
I still enjoy reruns of Hollywood Squares when they are on Buzzer or GSN. "What children's fairy tale begins with the discovery of some magic beans?" "That would be 'Inherit The Wind'." |
5 days 12 hours ago | Well... |
Well, if nothing else, they get some decent weather this weekend. Did anyone visit last weekend during winter storm Xanto or whatever it was called? |
5 days 17 hours ago | MLive... |
I dare say that MLive died with the first comments ever made on its boards as they undoubtedly predicted a time when the discussion section on every article would turn into a pissing match that would make even the most bitter, unrelenting Facebook troll cringe. To your statement though, it does seem like we are at a point where places that were once bastions of at least occasionally interesting discussion can rarely achieve that anymore, mostly because of people who prefer to pontificate on their bad take on some issue. |
6 days 9 hours ago | Summer Classes... |
Yeah, it always seemed like it depended a lot on the major - some people seem to be able to make more headway during the spring and summer semesters than others. As for me, I was always able to complete credits here and there in the spring and summer, but sometimes the offerings pertinent to my majors were limited in those semesters. |
6 days 11 hours ago | The Old Oaken Bucket... |
You know, one wonders what this rivalry would be called if Samuel Woodworth had never written a certain poem about his fond recollections of a bucket. Actually, it seems like a perfect backdrop for the Indiana-Purdue rivalry, the more I think about it now. |
6 days 13 hours ago | Ah, Yes... |
“Coach Saban’s job is to do what’s best for his team. I have no problem with that,” Averion Hurts said. “My job is to do what’s best for Jalen — and make no mistake, Jalen is a quarterback, and he wants to play quarterback. He loves Alabama, loves Coach Saban and everything about that place. But he wants to play, and he will play …” Ah, yes, another one potentially runs afoul of The Process.... I don't know that he'd be the biggest free agent in football history as his father seems to believe, but if he did leave, he certainly would not have a shortage of schools willing to offer him a home on their team. |
6 days 15 hours ago | You Know... |
As much as I enjoy The Cube, the fact that the spins are not for money and the chance to be in the Showcase later still kind of grates on me. In all seriousness though, I think I just might go give it one more spin before they fence it off for the Union renovations. |
6 days 17 hours ago | RDT... |
The day he outed himself was one of the best days on the blog - I miss those times on occasion. Of course, it was also one of the more poignant days on the blog, as you knew that was going to be the last RDT post for....well.....forever. As for the topic at hand, I am pretty excited about this class and the near future of Michigan basketball. |
1 week 7 hours ago | Nope... |
No, the promotion for Rutgers was going to be six Tabs and a hot dog in an expired bun. Wait, did I say too much there? |
1 week 10 hours ago | That Reminds Me... |
That reminds me....I haven't see much of the Nihilist Arby's account on Twitter lately. Someone should probably do a well-being check, however that is achieved on Twitter. |
