Harbaugh did not just sign a 29 player class and then say, oh no, how am I going to do this?? I'm sure as soon as the 3-4 graduate this year we will know who they are.
Where the whole film is them on offense because the other team won't throw at them. Reminded me of watching peppers' tape ( just not as shifty of course).
Same thing happened last year with Clark. And last time I checked things were not going so well for him. I think Gary is a far more cant miss gotta have recruit. Everything I've ever read about Gary points to UM. Every year we miss on somebody that SHOULD have committed but didn't (deshaun hand). I just hope we missed on nauta not Gary. Get Gary and the rest won't even matter imo.
Drake Harris starts to shine and is a legitimate threat by the end of the year. Another season in the weight room should help this. I thought he looked lost this year and fully expect that to change. (Hope whatever)
What's everyone think off Harbaugh doing the "dab" at Kingston Davis' house just after walker sets commitment date? Trying to make sure he knows he's still wanted I'm hoping...
every other bowl is just another chance to watch your team play, glorified practice, measuring stick, meaningless. The problem is adding another four teams making an eight team playoff would be a 16 game season, apparently too many for college kids. Only way I can see that expanding is too take away a early season non-conference game. Possibly lose the bye week?
I don't know about anyone else but I only watch a handful of bowl games anyway.
Coaches, players, hell even factory workers. If it was decided by time on job Durkin wouldn't be a D-1 head coach right now. A sophomore would never beat out a RS SR for a starting spot. Some people are just better at things than other people.
But to answer your question no. I don't think just because you have done something longer than somebody else that you are better than them at it, that would just be silly.
is a good coach. I wouldn't say the linebackers this year did any better, unlike the secondary who did. When we were getting ran on this year the linebackers looked bad! I don't know the stats, or feel like looking them up, but I'd guess their play was pretty close to the same as last year. Imo the secondary made the biggest strides this year. If you can coach kids to execute then you can coach kids to execute.
But it's never made sense to me how a DB coach couldn't coach linebackers. How could a guy who's played football his whole life not know the entire defense. Pro bowl player, been a part of many defenses, thousands of meeting rooms, being constantly trained to work as a unit. I mean should every player know who's doing what, when and where around him? Again, I'm not saying move Jackson to LB coach but I have a hard time believing he wouldn't know what to do or wouldn't do well at it. Same goes for Pruitt. If a DC doesn't know what he wants his dlinemen to do then..... Wow. All the film studies and practice and you don't know what they should be doing? You suck! You don't have to have played the position or coached it before, you just need the knowledge. Just my opinion of course.
Mattison did an awesome job as DC, top 10 defense, he's an above average recruiter, NFL experience. The corners we have now are the same corners we had with mattison. Durkin didn't do a miraculous turn around on the DB's, that would be the rockstar coaching staff Harbaugh has put together.
Then people talk like Mattison doesn't know how to run press coverage. He doesn't want to run a bend but don't brake defense. He had to accommodate for the lack of talent that RR left on D. He's been around long enough he can run any style D you want, I'm sure of it.
One thing I do like about the thought of Mattison being DC is he won't be leaving for a HC gig somewhere.
All that being said I'm not sure what to think about who gets the DC job. That's why I'm glad Harbaugh is the one deciding.
Durkin was our best recruiter? Yes he's a good recruiter but he's only been DC a couple years. Although I really really like Durkin I wouldn't exactly call him "elite". With UM's clout there are a lot of DC's that will equal or surpass him in both scheme and recruiting. That fella from Georgia would fit nicely, but would also be short term before he becomes a HC somewhere. Harbaugh and UMs clout definitely shouldn't ld hurt that goal.
save linebackers. Jim Harbaugh nor Michigan is going to hire a no name DC. I'm sure whom ever they name DC will be able to scheme and recruit, not worried a bit.
I don't usually get my hopes up for a top five recruit seems how they can go to any school they want, but I'm feeling pretty good about Gary. I can't imagine what a playoff trip Harbaugh's first season would do for recruiting. We spank NW and this shits on!!
I don't think he looks bad and will definitely see the field still. He had the football away from his body all loose on one, the second looked like it got stripped with very little effort. No doubt Wheatley and the coaching staff will correct it. Hopefully it won't be a huge deal.
Will be glad to see smith back out there. Losing Mario is going to suck, hopefully marshal can step up.
People complain about not getting second half points but I love how Harbaugh pretty much turns the play calling off once we've gotten up big. I for one (million) can't wait to see a screen to peppers. Just watching his punt returns, hasn't busted one open yet but man does he look good anyway. He's juking people out they've just done a good job of getting enough players to him. He's going to be deadly on bubble screens.
Outside of the Utah game Harbaugh hasn't asked rudock to get a lot of passing yards. He's actually done the opposite and has tried to establish a run game, I seen multiple drives where he didn't even call a pass play. I'd bet about half them pass plays on that chart are some sort of screen, basically a run play. Yeah he's turned the ball over too many times but he hasn't had much time to get in a rhythm. I can 100% guarantee Harbaugh hasn't unleashed the offense yet because we haven't seen peppers!! It's vanilla because it doesn't need to be anything else yet, why let the cat out the bag?
I'd be willing to bet we will see a lot more down the field passing starting this week. Rudock should get going and connect on the td's he's been missing on. If you're writing him off after three games go root for another team.
but it says there's 20 mph winds in Salt Lake City right now. Goes down to around 15 at game time. I'm not familiar with the stadium, will high winds affect the game at all? Not sure if it matters just thought that was a lot of wind.
With Harbaugh it's going to be a old school dumbbell or something. I'd bet it won't be a swoosh or a block M. Clutter isn't classy, none of the other ones looked good. In my opinion Georgia has the best, the bulldog gets a bone. Not your team or your mascot or a corporate spencer for that matter.
Because that matters so much. I'm as big of a Michigan fan as anybody on here but saying you don't want anything but a block M is stupid. Not to mention close minded and I'd be willing to bet if harbaugh does bring them back it won't be the block M. You're always talking like your OPINION is all that matters. Guess what buddy you're probably going to be wrong.
All the other ones seemed to loud and cluttered. I liked the block M but our uniforms are well known and liked putting team logos on it seems a little redundant. Give the sponsors some love, plus everyone loves the swoosh.
he said he likes the dline, everyone is versatile and can play multiple positions and they are deep. We know who the starting linebackers are, bolden Ross and Morgan, safeties Wilson and peppers and Lewis at CB. Really the only question is the other CB spot and who comes in on nickel packages. They said it's open but he also said they're slowing it down and getting ready for Utah. They know who the starters are. Offensive line seems set. TE is definitely set, WR's not really, RB not really QB, most likely. They're not saying oh we need more time to install, from what I heard they said they're ready to go for the most part. They both seemed pretty confident to me. I'm soooo ready, can't stand it!
I've noticed the media changing their 6-6, 7-5 prediction, saying that's "the floor". I've also noticed them giving Morris more potential love. BTN's visit to the submarine might not mean much but they did say Morris took more snaps than rudock. They also said both QB's had bad moments, who knows what that mean. Most analysts are saying if Morris starts it could be a big season, changing from Rudock will start 5th year SR blah blah, leaving themselves some wiggle room. I think it all depends on the Utah game. If we pull out a close win on the road it's going to be a good season. If we go out there and manhandle them it's going to be a great season, and if we lose......... Ehhh.
Every UM coach I've heard talk has said they like their guys, talents there, somebody just needs to be great. Durkin said he likes the Dline, they should be good against the run. Drevno said the OLine is physical and right where they need to be. "Just have to get out there and see" that's what's they all say. Not, I wish we had more practices, it's going to take time, need new personnel, just they have to go be about it. Hoke and Co. didn't talk like that.
I'm one of them overly optimistic fans, but this year my optimism comes from what the coaches are saying. They sound like they like their team.
after what little spring film I've seen on mgovideo Morris looks like he's getting it. Had the most reps in the passing game report, including two of the only bombs I seen down field, which were beautiful. One was to the "non pass catching" A.J Williams! The new video, #7, shows JH into coaching Morris as he does everyone I'm sure but it seems to me Morris is the most featured QB in the videos.
Am I reading to much into this, sure. It just chaps me that people are so down on Morris because he didn't win the heisman in his 4 starts in 3 years. His play wasn't bad his WR's dropped a lot of 3rd down passes. His INT's were at least thrown near a receiver unlike DG (who went from almost 30 TD's the year before to barely being able to find the 50 yard line). We just couldn't get in the end zone and surely that's not Morris' fault in the one game he started. All these people saying he's a bust and this and that. Well If they think they can judge him on what little we have seen out of a 20 year old kid, all I can say is I'm glad it's not up to them. With enough practice and coaching a 50 year old can improve at the QB position. To say he doesn't have a chance when he's still there practicing four hours a day is just ignorant!
Sorry this is off topic. Ha
Marshal and Wheatley, bank the rest for next year when people are jumping on board after we stomp ass!
Look at bama, kids want to go there because they win. I can imagine some recruits being sceptical of coming to UM and losing to MSU and ohio, well everyone for that matter, every year. Just like Hoke's first year all you have to do is win. That plus a UM degree is hard to beat.
Just watched his video and loved how he repeatedly threw the ball over the coverage, something DG just couldn't do.
I've always been an advocate for Morris, Malzone looks like he has great touch and I like Gentrys size. Perhaps what I love the most is if any one of them sucks it up HARBAUGH is going to move down the line.
I don't like the thought of having a freshman QB but if you think about it that's all we have. A senior and a junior with a handful of starts between the two and even fewer TD's, I'd say that spots wide open! If one of the FR get it I'd expect to see at least one QB transfer next year. I can't see Morris staying if Gentry or Malzone get it.
Everytime we get points in the paint our team looks good. Even when we're not shooting all that great it takes a ton of pressure off our guards to score. I'm hoping for a McGary-Esk tournament run from him. As soon as he Whipes that butter off his fingers we should be good.
Off topic, is drake Harris ready to go in winter conditioning? Hoping for big things from him.
Mattison has been around a lot of coaching changes, he knows how it goes. I guess my problem with what you said was implying that he's going to be part of a malicious sowing circle. Feeding into that isn't going to help anybody. As far as the Durkin thing I'm sure HARBAUGH has already told them what both of their roles will be. My point is if he was butt hurt by Durkin taking the DC spot he just wouldn't be a part of it. It's not the first time he's shared responsibility with someone. I'm sure he's up for the task (tutor).
Again, not saying you're wrong I just disagree.
Everyone in the country knew hokes job was in jeopardy. I doubt GM would stay around and cause problems and create tension. There's no room for that. He's a professional and has a job to do and wouldn't even agree to come back if there's going to be a problem. In the end he loves Michigan and wants the best for the university like everyone else.
This is also just my opinion mixed with an educated guess.
P.S I understand you said he's a professional, but your statement seemed to counterdict that fact.
