Details matter. For example,…

"What details need to be reviewed?. . " The Oracle 2

Details matter. For example, is there precedence of a similar incident regarding UM football?

https://www.foxsports.com/stories/other/michigan-director-of-football-operations-suspended-after-dui-arrest

https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/harbaugh-suspended-football-ops-director-has-been-reinstated/

Minick crashed his car, received DUI arrest, was suspended indefinitely, and was reported to be reinstated about a month later, subject to conditions.

Next, is there an employee assistance program for substance abuse at UM? For someone that volunteers for this, it may offer a solution to a problem that is often referred to as a medical issue. And, successful recovery could be lifesaving to one or many.

Last, is there contract language that specifically addresses the issue? If so, the matter may already be on path to resolution.

Wishing the best for coach Scruggs as this plays forward. It's really a greater issue than who will be the football coach for a certain position.

"Get him to commit to three…

"Get him to commit to three years.  Build the program back up.  Immediately have him bring in a successor in waiting and mentor him...and then hand off the program."

Beilein flamed out in the NBA after dumping UM and the "frustrating" college game of its time. Now, the college game is more like the NBA with NIL payments and portal free agency.

JB's ship sailed when he left, with him laughing at the helm, at least until he reached the NBA promised land. Then, not so much. No more laughter or coaching success.

Beilein was a great, beloved coach for us, no doubt. Better to keep his legacy intact by leaving it in the past. There's plenty of young coaches ready for UM's next chapter. Excited for that. .

Possibly one of the biggest…

Possibly one of the biggest head coach failures is sabotaging Sanderson, first by ending his off season training regimen, and then enabling snobby, entitled players to be above above their strength and conditioning coach.

It used to be quite interesting to see players after off season "Camp Sanderson," with the gains that they made. It was quite ironic, too, to see Hunter Dickinson looking the same before camp as after, standing next to guys that obviously had gains.

So, the physical regimens appear to be disregarded, and maybe academics, too. How else does one explain how a key starter becomes ineligible to travel due to academic failure. It's pretty unthinkable given the resources extended to players.

Players quitting in the second half of games is the loser's trifecta.

Our team fails in mind, body, and spirit. What's the plan to change all of that, especially as the coach refers to his own method as s***?

"You take the ball. ."

"No,…

"You take the ball. ."

"No, you take it. ."

Miss shots, make errant passes, kick the ball out of bounds, hit your teammate in the back of the head with a fast-break ball, players tripping over their own *s (shoelaces). .

Middle school caliber basketball at it's finest. .

Agree, the barometer has…

Agree, the barometer has changed from hopeful- sky's no limit, to hopeless- we're bottom feeders from now on. It's also impressive that the hoped-for AAU recruiting wonder has morphed into a coach that can't land or keep a recruit. Maybe the saddest part for me is the demeanor change, from passionate gratitude to assaulting bully. Who wants to play for that coach? What parent wants to send their kid to that team? What spectator (other than opponent) wants to watch that team?

". . hockey assault…

". . hockey assault accusations? Just in time during our big ten tournament run of course! "

Since the B1G hockey tournament has already started and nothing has happened, maybe you're referring to the the B1G basketball tournament? Assault allegations to undermine that? We've lived with those for years. The main assaults appear to be by our head coach: on other coaches, team personnel, and now all of UM basketball fans. The bar is low, but will likely be lowered with another season.

Every team and fan (outside…

Every team and fan (outside UM) wants Juwan back next year. They will all welcome his return with great enthusiasm. Warde will be their hero.

"I really don't think the…

"I really don't think the Harbaugh 2020 comp is right."

The only way the basketball coaching situation could be similar is if JHow is stripped of his guaranteed high salary, and replaced with an incentivized goal-achievement salary. It took Harbaugh's experience, knowledge, determination, pride, and full effort to achieve results after 2020. There is no evidence that JHow could have similar result.

JHow has no program building experience, whereas Harbaugh is a proven coach in program turnarounds, his own or others. The sad statement for JHow is that while he may have been a great assistant, he has failed in his only tenure as a head coach. Even his upside projections for future seasons are mediocre.

"Towards the end of his…

"Towards the end of his career at UM, I could barely watch him throw passes beyond 10 yards without covering my eyes."

Playing with a damaged ulnar nerve in one's elbow produces that result. One of Brady Hoke's worst mistakes at UM was to continue playing Denard with that injury. It was Hoke's pathetic, short-sighted, insensitive, stupid choice to ignore the extent of such a debilitating injury.

"He is not a good head…

"He is not a good head college bball coach. ."

The simple, stark proof of the statement is that Phil Martelli remains on staff as a babysitter. The initial story was that Martelli's hire was to help JHow "acclimate" to the college game. Apparently this has yet to happen, and Martelli's presence is still required.

MSU team owned the court…

MSU team owned the court. MSU fans owned the arena. JHow (not to) owns the result.

Canary in the mine was Sanderson. Obviously, rest of JHow staff has checked out, too. They're marching to the drum of the Burger King now, letting JHow have it his way.

And, a spectacular failing way it is, just like the car crash compilations on YouTube. No victors, valiance, conquerors, heroes, leaders, or best. Just a bunch of bruised, somnambulant "woe-verines", spreading their narcolepsy to an increasingly apathetic/alienated fan base.

And that the floor where he…

And that the floor where he landed was not a biohazard

A main challenge for…

A main challenge for circumstances of our new hires is that we have to know who is leaving before we can begin the process of hiring their replacements. This takes time. For example, I don't expect that we have a replacement for "Clink" days after his departure.

We have several coaching positions on offense solidified, which us positive in that we have to install may new players in starting positions. Although our existing scheme could be modified for talent, we are likely not installing an entire new offensive scheme. Also positive.

Defensively, we have a DC that not only knows the current scheme, he helped design it. This continuity is extremely beneficial. Many returning defensive players will hopefully plug right in. The new DC will find his new staff, knowing that recruiting is important, too. The existing defensive scheme continues.

Coach Moore will be the main coordinator for recruiting, coaching, and player retention, and he needs time to find the balance. I am willing to be patient, and am very happy with our continuity so far. We are not challenged with finding new coaching staff for every position like so many colleges now.

It's always amusing when…

It's always amusing when those who know zero about the job activities and responsibilities of an AD call for their firing. It's as if Warde Manual is the most powerful person at UM, omnipotent in all of athletics, and is beholden solely to scruffy mutts of MGBl (as they unceasingly howl at the moon or its absence). Warde Manual is the best AD UM has had for decades, and we are lucky to have him. I'm grateful for his contributions and tenure here, including all of the championships and graduations that have occurred.

The NFL surely understands…

The NFL surely understands players refusing to play without pay, expecting that of no one. And, every team prefers a healthy athlete coming to the league.

Marquis college players will be more incentivized to play in post season games when they are paid to participate in an increasing tiered monetary playoff system that mirrors the NFL post season system.

Crazy in a good way. As long as they blame "stolen signs," they have consolation from their pain without admitting underlying causes. Long live "stolen-sign syndrome." May it be consoling and soothing, with Bucks, Sparts, and rest of the somnambulist b1g easily accepting future losses to UM.

Page 3, paragraph 2 fact…

Page 3, paragraph 2 fact check opportunity: ". . The Big Ten admits that it had no evidence that Coach Harbaugh knew about the “sign-stealing scheme". ."

The NCAA stated there was no evidence of coach H's knowledge of Stalion activity, not the B1G. The B1G chose punitive action, disregarding NCAA statement.

Page 2, paragraph 4 fact…

Page 2, paragraph 4 fact check opportunity: ". . Stalions refused to cooperate with the investigation, so Michigan fired him. ."

This statement conflicts with reports that Stalions resigned, after the UM suspended his employment, with pay. During the time of paid suspension, Stalions reportedly refused cooperation with UM or NCAA. (ESPN, Detroit News, etc)

Excellent thread, story, and article. Especially grateful for UM stories like this on MGOBLOG, keeping spotlight and focus on our great team.

Welcome, Mr. Perez! Thank you for considering our school. May your visit be fruitful, rewarding, and consistent with your future goals, hopes, and plans.

And, while we hope for good players like you for our team, more than that we need much better fans. Many folks here will trash a young person before they ever set foot on campus. Those same people whine, drone, drool, and wonder what's wrong with our basketball program. They need only go and look in the mirror, where they probably already spend too much time, except for the wrong reasons.

While mgoblog mainly…

Mgoblog mainly concerns itself with football, basketball, and hockey. Football, being the greatest revenue producer, expense generator, and most visible sport, receives greatest NIL scrutiny. Meanwhile, Director Manuel is concerned for all UM sports.

The success of global men's and women's sport programs at UM is due to its revenue sharing, investment, and opportunity. And, Director Manuel's greatest concern is for all student athletes, not just those participating in football. So, his (UM) NIL strategy extends beyond the concern of any typical fan of one or two specific sports. I respect the attitude of Manuel's strategy, and the complexity it involves in the NIL era across many sports and athletes.

So, UM is now the "little…

So, UM is now the "little brother" team (at least where Maliq and Jeremiah are concerned : )

A smell of smoke has been apparent outdoors in Ann Arbor today and for the past several days.  And, it's not "The Barbeque" (usually end of July?) or the Zingerman's Roadhouse smoker. Have been working outdoors wearing an N95, after experiencing major lung irritation several days ago. Have never experienced this before.

Thanks for the link and heads up, MrWoodson. It's an excellent article for a more excellent person, athlete, and UM ambassador. I'm grateful to see the spotlight directed positively, a practice so contrary to the focus of most media. Go Blue, Go JJ

Dickinson to the portal…

Dickinson to the portal makes sense to me, too. I lost my respect for him when he went on the road to Wisconsin wearing a ski mask, one day after the MSU shooting tragedies. He "stole" nothing but his own dignity, making the team, his coaches, and UM laughing stocks amidst another loss. Head held down? Rightfully so. Take that *show somewhere else.

Sound harsh? Not really. He's a paid athlete making almost a $mil per season, and a poor ambassador for the sport and UM.

Had a used '67 Camaro 327 V8…

Had a used '67 Camaro 327 V8 with 2-speed automatic transmission. Fun car to drive, especially in winter (haha), but resulting rust issues prompted sale. It was the first and last "special" car that I drove through winter and salt season. Subsequent pleasure cars have been stored during salt season ever since.

My current summer driver is a 6th-gen '22 Camaro with a 6-2 litre V8 (378 ci) with 6-speed manual. It's the best, most fun, affordable sports car that I've ever had. It's a fitting bookend in my ICE experience, and I think it's a keeper.

Sad to see the end of the ICE Camaro, but looking forward to a possible ICE/EV hybrid with AWD, maybe like the new GT3 Corvette. Otherwise, the future's wide open and I'm excited to witness how it unfolds.

Only 6 weeks from end of '22…

Only 6 weeks from end of '22 season, to start of '23 season with spring practice. Not much time for recovery/rehab in that short period. Followed by 6 weeks of spring practice, which I perceive to be an orientation for new coaches and players. It's also a time to learn about schematic changes, training-over-summer expectations, and season goals. If there many changes in the overall state of affairs, it's time to learn how much is not known, with time to improve for fall, in the formal resumption of the year-round business of football. Go Blue

The MSU mass murder is…

The MSU mass murder is tragic, heart, mind, and soul wrenching, and profound. Deepest condolences to, and prayers for the entire MSU community, especially families of those murdered and injured. Prayers for merciful, quick, and complete healing for those injured. I am gripped in a vice of sadness and hurt over this tragedy, and so many others like it, that rip into the fabric of our nation.

4 and 8 position is…

4 and 8 position is considered superior to 10 and 2 in cars with airbags. 10 and 2 position places drivers at greater risk of injury with airbag activation, due to hands and arms becoming projectile objects. 3 and 9 is a safe compromise. Shuffle steering keeps hands and arms from crossing the airbag deployment path, so it is considered best.

This is a year that UM's…

This is a year that UM's basketball formula hits bottom. They recruit top talent, lose it a year or 2 later, fail to develop those that stay, or lose key players to injury without depth to overcome.

Defense pales relative to Beilein. The bench is weak. Shooting percentages, including bread-and-butter free throws (free points) are down or incredibly inconsistent game to game.

UM coaching staff has talent, experience, and potential, but it's not translating on the floor this year. The team will most likely end the season in the same manner that resulted in the current sub-.500 B1G W/L record. Win out in the B1G? For sure, a person can still dream. .

Tournament reality? Invite unlikely. Retool and reboot? Yes, please

Others view the current…

Others view the current iteration of the NCAA as being a monopolistic slavery organization. It has no competing organization, and it profits handsomely from the work of college athletes. NCAA does not share its windfall revenue with any of the students that created the wealth. Not one penny.

Pretty much. Difficult to…

Pretty much. Difficult to prove that you didn't do something that never happened. NCAA could face some pretty costly lawsuits that could be be settled out of court, with all of their unsubstantiated charges being dropped, or have to pay damages for libel and slander. This could be the end of the NCAA, with it being sued out of existence.

Ignore the lawyer BS…

Ignore the lawyer BS innocence spin. If the charged participants complete the agreement terms of their court-mandated service, their records will be erased. If they fail to complete the terms they will likely be further sentenced, resulting in misdemeanor criminal records. All of this is standard and appropriate for the circumstances.

Depends on what the…

Depends on what the definition of "spoken directly" is. Many don't speak directly anymore. Personally, like others, I prefer texting, having all of my conversations in writing. Maybe Warde Manuel is the same, especially with those that don't seem to recall numerous conversations.

Mr. Manuel is far more astute, professional, and capable than anyone here currently gives him credit. He's privy to sensitive situations, events, and activities, managing them to his best ability. He's also accountable to UM President, Board of Regents, and a plethora of attorneys.

That he doesn't react and answer to the outside chattering whims of the moment is likely exactly why he still has his job today and beyond. I'll take him far and above the long list of car-crash ADs that preceded him.

Thank you, Gemon! Now, go…

Thank you, Gemon! Now, go tackle the world in glorious fashion!

What person is not…

What person is not interested in exploring jobs that pay substantially more than their current one?

Anyone that questions Harbaugh's integrity regarding this is ridiculous and unrealistic, especially considering that he already took a massive pay cut from his initial base salary to continue coaching here.

He's proven that he can reach key performance incentives in his job. He is deserving of resetting his base pay to a high level, commensurate with, or above other leading coaches in and beyond the B1G. If we want him to stay, we have to pay.

Glad for Campbell, Goss, Hutchinson, et al. They flipped a bad season on it's ear, and kicked Rogers out of his house on his rear. Lions have Lion hearts for sure, and some gnashing teeth for the 2nd half of this season.
