Are you men all kidding me with this? You really can't suck it up 2-5 times a year to watch sports an hour past your precious bed time? You know all the dates of the NCAA football and basketball championship games, the NFC/AFC championship games and the Super Bowl, you really can't just sleep an hour or two less a night those nights and drink more coffee in the morning? I understand if your wife is pregnant or if there are other extreme circumstances, but aren't you men? I am 33 and I know that I might be a little tired after staying up late to watch a game but you don't think Florida st/auburn or Kansas/Memphis are worth it? That is not a true sports fan. A true sports fan conditions themselves for games like that. There is a reason that Don Draper and Walter White are popular; they are MEN that do what they want on their terms, not some pansy ass that complains about staying up one more hour a few nights a year. Suck it up or don't call yourself a real sports fan. And if your bosses schedule some major assignment the day after a major sporting event then a revolution is necessary!
Pretty sure it's Mike O'Brien. He appeared earlier in the episode putting the "5-timer" robe on Timberlake. I used to row with him at Michigan and I forgot he was on the show until I saw him last night. Plus I think that guy dancing with the helmet was a little too skinny to be Tim Robinson. I could be wrong though...

HBO did an awesome documentary about the Miracle on Ice team, maybe even before the movie "Miracle" came out. It was called "Do You Believe in Miracles", and is on HBO on demand pretty often. There my be other outlets to try to find it as well.
I have the 89 virginia game on tape, as well as that entire tournament run except for the first round game against Xavier. I have also given WH some of my football tapes that he has converted into his videos. I would be happy to give him the bball tapes except I'm in Los Angeles and won't be back in Michigan until September.

I have been living in LA for a year and a half and agree a lot with what people have to say, especially Lucas. I used to live in West Hollywood, and now in Hollywood/Los Feliz area, and have some suggestions that haven't been mentioned. I used to work on Melrose right down the block from a good bar/restaurant called The Village Idiot. Great beer, great liquor selection, and really good food. However it's best to go in the early evening or else it gets really crowded and loud. A plus is they do have a back room that is good for partys. There is a decent bar across the street from that called the Darkroom which is decent as well. Bar Lubitsch on Santa Monica has a cool design to it and makes good specialty drinks. There is Coach and Horses on Sunset east of Fairfax, The Woods on La Brea and Sunset, and Three Clubs on Vine near Santa Monica. Tom Bergin's and Molly Malone's are good Irish places on Fairfax; Bergin's more for an old-school Irish feel, and Malone's to see live music. In Hollywood, I would recommend the Frolic Room, Blue Palm, and Dillon's (kind of. It's a new Irish place on Hollywood and Vine that has a bunch of TV's, great beer selection with great beer prices, and waitresses that are dressed like they work at Hooters, but it can get kind of douchey.) Also, there is Hollywood Billiards in Little Armenia that is great for watching college football and a lot of Michigan fans watch games there. Just down the street on Los Feliz from Bigfoot Lodge are The Roost (a decent divish bar) and The Griffin, which may have my favorite interior of any bar in LA and they make strong drinks. In Silverlake, right across the street from each other, are the Cha Cha Lounge and the Red Lion Tavern. Cha Cha is better in the early evening when the drinks are cheaper and it's not too crowded, and Red Lion is a German place that has a festive biergarten and good beer. I think that is all I have to add at the moment, and I think it would be fun to get a bunch of us LA guys together for some Michigan games, or Red Wings games or the like.
Correct. They also showed the Citrus Bowl win over Arkansas and the 99 Notre Dame game earlier in the day. Watching these games would make people wonder why Brady was drafted so low. Also not a bad day to be home sick from work with these games on, although I can always go to Wolverine Historian's page when needed.
I'll trust Grant Hill when he said not having anyone guard him made the difference in his throw. I just think the main point is that if Michigan thought he was going to throw a long pass, then they should have guarded the inbound man, and if not, they should have doubled Turner.
I mentioned those two scenarios because those were the two that were brought up. I also said that if they were not guarding the inbound pass, then there should have been more defense waiting for turner. If their intention was to play 5 on 4, then they should have been double teaming Turner, so even if one man was picked, the second man would still be with him. Turner did make a heck of a shot, but Michigan could have made it more difficult.
I have seen at least three documentaries about that game and in each one Grant Hill states that the fact that no one guarded him was the key because he was easily able to get the ball where he wanted. Earlier in that year they tried the same play and Grant Hill's pass was way off target because someone was guarding him. His pass may have still gotten to Laettner, but not in such a good position.
The inbound pass should have been contested by Kentucky in 1992 and by Michigan yesterday, or at least have a guy right on Turner's hip when he caught the pass. I am not always the biggest fan of a complete prevent defense on a hail mary, it gives the QB a lot of time to wind up and throw. Pressure at the point of attack usually disrupts the intended outcome. I also think they should have adjusted the D based on where Turner lined up. Guarding against a long pass would make sense if Turner was down court, but he wasn't. It was a heck of a shot by him in any case. Also, what a terrible year for them to lose a game like that with MSU and Wisconsin losing as well; they had a legit shot at winning the tourney.
I like the NBA on NBC theme, but I always like the NBA on CBS theme song better, although it might be because it was on CBS that the Pistons were winning championships, and the Bulls won all their rings on NBC:

I think having 8 teams is the perfect amount. By the time a playoff is a possibility, I wouldn't be surprised if teams like Boise, TCU and BYU are in bigger conferences, so these good "mid major" teams might already have a legitimate shot of making the tournament. Whether the 8 teams are determined by conference champions or a committee, there would still be a ton to play for in the regular season if the first round were home games for the higher seeds, played a week after the last weekend of the regular season. One of the arguments against a playoff is that a loss in the regular season might be meaningless if that team gets into the playoff anyway, but that point would be negated by giving higher seeds home games. For instance, even though penn state won the big 10 in 2008, that loss to iowa would have still mattered because they would be playing the first round away instead of in happy valley. I also agree with Tater that the semifinals should be played in two of the BCS games on new year's day, and then the championship game maybe a couple of weeks later, so that the fan bases of the two winning teams can have some time to arrange their travel plans. Only asking 2 teams' fans to travel to more than one bowl site isn't that bad. Also, the 4 teams that would have lost in the first round would play in the 2 BCS games that are not hosting the semifinals, on Jan. 2nd and 3rd, or right around that time. That way, even if a team loses in the first round, they still get to go to a major bowl game and finish their season on a high note. All the other bowls would stay in tact as well.
