If not for that bizarre NCAA probe, we probably make the tournament that year and build some good recruiting classes off that experience. When we had our full lineup we almost beat Duke.
Also, if Crawford didn't turn pro after the Frosh year, then Bernard Robinson would've played with those two at the same time since he was a year late.

Are the crabs really that good to steal 'em?
|15 hours 33 min ago||A win won't save Hoke's job||
They'll just be 4-4 and have a good chance of losing at least two more games. 4-4 is not what anyone would have imagined, and a win over Sparty will only put out the torches until the next L.
|15 hours 37 min ago||Sparty was not that good in hoops that year||
No one didn't realize it at the time. Maybe it was chemistry or talent or a combination, but they flamed out down the road and lost their tourney opener. Basically, they were trending downward. I don't see that with their football team this year.

The deposed king of the 49ers has to wire his acceptance letter for the HC job and $10,000,000,000,000 USD into a bank account. Please respond quickly and receive "UNIMANGIABLE EARTHY AND HEAVANLY REWARDS"

T. Collins, Wheatley, Biakabutuka, Toomer, Mercury Hayes, etc etc etc. And that's just the offense. They also won the Rose Bowl the year before.

But when it comes to the academic trash talk, it's a bit more geniune when it comes from students/alumni of the schools. But I do love the fandom for the teams.

You need an All American center for that group.

Those shirts were all over EL the day of the game in 1997. It was the first time I saw the shirt. I went to the Wisconsin game and no one in Madison had the shirt. I told a couple students about the shirts and they were not very impressed.

We can return to self loathing in six more days if necessary.
|4 days 14 hours ago||I could never get past two things from my 1997 experience||
The number of "Ann Arbor is a Whore" t-shirts and the drunk Sparties tossing Michigan fans into a bail of hay and pelting beer bottles at them. I would love to go back, but I feel like dealing with those folks is a young mans game and I have too many kids and years under my belt to hang.
|4 days 14 hours ago||1999 was not an upset||
They didn't need luck to win. They kicked our butts for three quarters while we played musical chairs at QB and still made enough plays to hold on in the 4th. Then went out and beat Florida in the Citrus Bowl.
Also, in most of those other years you listed, those games were in EL. I wasn't old enough to follow them in 1978 or 1984, but I thought Gibson was on the '78 team and Harbaugh was injured in 1984.
|4 days 14 hours ago||The 1990 MSU Team||
They lost to Iowa, who beat us and went to the Rose Bowl, and ND. Not to say they didn't deserve to be big underdogs, but they were no slouch. Sparty always had enough talent to spring an occasional upset, but they were usually too undisciplined to be a consistent threat.
|4 days 16 hours ago||Unless we come out no-huddle and run an up-tempo offense...||
...we're screwed. Oregon has the template to beat Sparty. Just go, go, go. If you keep their guys on the field and snap the ball quickly, it gives their defense less time to set up and figure out what you're doing.
It may at least keep us in the game for a half. Tressel outcoached us in 2006 when he opened up the offense and it took us a half to regroup. Maybe Nuss can have a similar plan in mind.

Maybe if DB would've opened up the checkbook to bring Casteel over from WVA, our defense would've been fine. I think the 3-3-5 would've worked fine in the B1G, but you needed people who know it to coach it. Why not have one of the best in the biz?

I didn't watch the bowl game because I figured RichRod was a dead man walking and the game would not be enjoyable, but...
...we moved the ball against MSU but we were either missing kicks or 4th and long conversions in opposition to a FG try.
...we also moved the ball against OSU but fumbled once near the end zone and had to go on it on 4th and field in goal range b/c of our kicking issues.
I'm not trying to say we would have won those games, but if the Gibbons of 2011 was as accurate in 2010, I think those games would have been much more competetive deep into the second half.
|4 days 17 hours ago||That actually favors you if you draft pass catching RBs||
In PPR leagues, guys like Giovanni Bernard have a lot of value. A pass catching lead back is very valuable. In a 14 team league, DRob isn't a bad choice at all as your last pick. Truth is that Gus Bradley should have turned to him sooner.
|1 week 6 days ago||We held a team averaging 16.5 PPG||
against traditional FBS schools to 13 points while only scoring 18. Nothing changes. I saw nothing that tells me they can do better against a competent offense/defense.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||The better the defense...||
...the fewer the chances. Plus they typically played only 11 regular season games. Also, had Tripp Welborne and Derrick Alexander during his time there so maybe they may have taken some of those kicks.

That guy should've been fired after the Utah game.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Hoke is as good as gone||
It's either when we lose our seventh game or after the OSU game. Brandon may like Hoke, but he's not going to keep him around if it means his own job security is on the line. I'm more concerned about DB sitting in with the coaches reviewing game film. There needs to be some restrictions in place so the coaches can coach without interference.
|3 weeks 12 hours ago||As long as Ausmus pulls Sanchez we lose||
Even if Cabrera scores to go up 7-3, we still lose 8-7. That's just how it goes with this team. I remember when people wanted Brookens gone last year because he had Cabrera gunned down at home last year. It just doesn't matter. Seems like we're cursed in the third base box.
|3 weeks 13 hours ago||Makes me wonder if Avila noticed||
At one point last night, the Orioles swung at every pitch Soria threw, except for the intentional walk. It seemed they saw something and that's what it was. I would expect the catcher to pick up on that.
|3 weeks 13 hours ago||I think Soria's still hurt||
Oriole players said his stuff was straight, no life, after last night's game. No chance that improves in less than 24 hours.
|3 weeks 13 hours ago||You could add more zeroes||
Rick Sutcliffe was saying during the game on ESPN Radio that Ausmus would be smart to leave Sanchez in to finish the game if he's on. That was in the sixth inning. He just blew a chance to roll Price out there to go up 2-1 and he Scherzer finish on Monday.
|3 weeks 13 hours ago||Work from the Orioles locker room...||
Soria's probably still hurt so either we traded for damaged goods or he got hurt here. Either way, it figures.
During the radio broadcast (ESPN), Rick Sutcliffe reported the Oriole players said that Soria's pitches were flat. Doesn't matter how hard you throw, if each pitch is straight or has no life, these hitters will tee off. And I remember Soria used to have great stuff.
|3 weeks 22 hours ago||That schedule||
I haven't seen anything from our team to suggest that we would have had the same record as Arizona's with their schedule.

He left in the late 80s or early 90s for NYC and they tired of his schtick almost immediately. Honestly, I think the Drew Sharps of the world try to emulate the New York press with their always negative brand of "journalism".
Bernie had to come back here where people will appreciate his humor filled take on sports.
