"What (Michigan coaches) told me is that they're focusing on point guards right now, but if anything opens up, they'll definitely come back on and recruit me as hard as they were," said Towns

A year to heal up would be right in time for a rematch so Mayweather can go 50-0.

If he wasn't doping, he would've had nothing to complain about. I don't blame Mayweather for requesting it back then since there was a suspicion about it.

It's such a part of college hoops that you almost can't have a fair conversation if you use that argument. Michigan might have a couple more NCAA titles if UCLA played by the rules. UCLA was dirty in ALL CAPS. Ed Martin was helping out kids going to UM, MSU, Iowa and other programs. It's all over.
Also, I'm not saying MSU's program was garbage before Izzo got there. But it was not better than ours either. During that period from 88-95 that you mention, we won NCAA one title and went to two more title games. Not to mention an Sweet 16 in 1988 and Elite 8 in 1994. You go back previous to the Mike McGee years you'll see us again have success in the tournament while Sparty was being shut out.
I am one of those people that believe that if we hired a competent coach to replace Fisher, this run of Sparty dominance in the state would not have materialized. People seem to forget that Kentucky's program was shredded by the NCAA, but they hired the right coach in Pitino to get them back on top. Maybe Beilein should've been hired in 1998.

Izzo benefited because of two things: A certain rollover accident and Ellerbe pissing off HS coaches in Michigan while gambling on questionable recruits. My point is that this program, pre-1997, was considered an elite program that could recruit nationally with anybody.
Pre-1997, you could only point to Indiana and OSU as programs with comparable success (regular season and post season). I did not mention Purdue because they only had two Final Four appearances and no NCAA titles, but you can certainly make an argument for them.
|22 hours 21 min ago||And what were those numbers in 1997?||
Before the NCAA took away the wins during the Fab Five/Traylor years? Before the dark days of Ellerbe and Amaker?
The B1G has taken advantage of our poorly run basketball program from 1997 (which was the beginning of the B1G tournament) until 2008-2009. Despite all that, we've been to the third most Elite 8s, fourth most Final Fours with the revised numbers. You do that with elite talent.
Say what you want, but those vacated games happened. And those kids did not come here because of Ed Martin, nor was their play enhanced by him. Historically, this has always been a winning program.

...at best. Look at who came in with Trey: Brundidge and Bielfeldt. Two guys whose college careers have been average at best.
Beilein was bringing in solid contributors but that was talent that was probably going to max out at the Sweet 16. If people are going to ignore Michigan hoops history prior to 1997, they may be okay with that, but our hoops program has been more successful than any other B1G program except Indiana and maybe OSU.

...and being a good recruiter are two different things. He's a good talent evaluator, but he has not shown an ability to recruit four/five star talent consistently. Amaker was able to recruit 3 star talent. Even Ellerbe was able to recruit 3 star talent. The difference is that Beilein is a far superior coach.
Beilein is great, but not perfect. And the area where he could use improvement is in recruiting battles for top flight talent. Even if it means getting the basketball team their own chef. I'm good with anything that's between the lines.

I don't see Bielfeldt being a difference maker in getting to the Final Four, much less beating Sparty. But the depth for 10-15 minutes a game would be nice I guess.

Just by the very nature of the 24 hour news cycle, he has the opportunity. Throw in his NFL success and his personality and he has surpassed Bo in at least making sure everyone knows who he is.

It was great. I don't know why, but none of the locations seem to be as good as the pre-expansion locations in Arlington and DC. Don't know if they changed their formula (cheapened them) or what, but the burgers don't taste the same to me.

I didn't think his status was decided until some weeks after JH was hired. Is it possible that he was only around for a short period until they transitioned the recruiting away from the old staff?

When have the Lions been run well as an organization. And I don't mean one good season on the field. I'm not very confident the front office has a real plan besides "take the best player available".
|5 days 20 hours ago||All of those teams, minus the Kings||
Have won their league's championship more recently than the Lions. And the Kings were repeatedly one of the top 5 teams during the Webber/Divac years.
In defense of Cleveland, look at all the rings in that division with Pittsburgh and Baltimore. Plus John Elway and Earnest Byner kept Cleveland from two SB appearances. The Lions were blown out in their only NFC title game appearance and haven't made it past the Wild Card round since.
