Cade’s biggest issue in this…

Cade’s biggest issue in this game was his deep ball, where he’s usually sharp. If he hits one or two of his misses this game feels very different.

For example, Mikey walks into the EZ if there’s more air under his pass, but that turned into 3 points.

I was never a huge Cade believer but I thought he did what he needed to to win the game (minus the one big mistake). He made a lot of key 3rd down conversions on TE seams and out routes. Credit him for not turtling up after he threw the interception.

This doesn’t seem fair. Gary never became the elite pass rusher we expected but he was a beast holding the edge against the run and was all B1G 2x.

By all accounts he was a strong locker room guy. The 2018 defense was elite (until it wasn’t), in large part due to Gary.

This is not on the D. It’s 100% on the O and the 3 turnovers. D had a game sealing TD unfairly called back.

My problem with the play…

My problem with the play calling is that it’s just so damn incoherent. There is no flow to the offense. We are seemingly knocking the d line off the ball for a series, get it down to the 2, and then, inexplicably, decide to expose our biggest weakness by dropping back to pass. We do 1 thing we’ll: run between the tackles. Everything else should be a constraint off of that. Higdon should have had 120 rushing yards tonight.

Instead this feels very much like Borges 2013 where we are throwing all the shot against the wall to see if anything, mercifully, will stick. Occasionally we have enough talent that something stick (see Nico’s deep reception) but for the most part we have no real identity.

Dropping back to pass from the 2, with our tackles, isn’t aggressive, it’s stupid. Whoever called that play had their head in the sand.

It all has to be taken in…

It all has to be taken in context. If your upperclassmen are as low upside as ours seem to be, you’d love a younger guy to push through and seize the opportunity with both hands. The fact that Hudson, as a second year player, hasn’t done that gives some pause about his viability this year. On the other hand, the fact that a true freshman might be our best left tackle this year is promising for his future, but is scary because it puts a pretty hard ceiling on how good our line can be, and raises questions about recruiting/depth.

The music was set perfectly against it too. How is it that no one has killed that tradition at MSU? It’s like we’re Popeye and them slapping the floor is opening a can of spinach.
Thank you guys

For that tribute to Keith Jackson.

When I heard the news I was sitting with my roommate and my girlfriend, and had to fight back tears. Neither one of them knew who KJ was, and it was hard to explain to them what it meant to me that a voice so inexerably tied to my childhoold would never be heard again.

I don't think I realized it until this weekend, but Jackson was one of the reasons I fell in love with Michigan Football. He had that special way of capturing the spirit of fall Saturdays that I'll forever associate with the turning leaves, banner planes, the Goodyear blimp flying overhead and maize and blue wings. He brought an emotion to the game that I've never heard in any other announcer and now his voice is instant nostalgia.

RIP.

Stay strong Ace

I think I can speak for most of the MGoCommunity when I say we love and appreciate the work you do here and can't wait to have you back.

Watching in person You could tell we were bothered by Texas’ size at first. But we figured it out about half way into the first half. Bamba is a beast on D but Texas was lost without a go to offensive threat. Good win overall but I think UT really missed Jones in this one. Also, I hope our 3-point shooting gets better real soon. We can’t get far shooting in the low to mid 30’s.

Phew, there you are.

NYC Fan was worried about you.

Damn millennials and their trophies...

Cool story bro moment..

I happened to sit next to Zia at graduation in '05 and he was super a friendly, genuinely happy guy. He told stories about the team and praised coach Carr as a great man. It was clear he was fully appreciating life after what could have been a very tragic incedent. It was great to see.

Our DBs owned his routes As evidenced by being forced out of bounds on that long completion. I thought the last PI against Long was complete bs. He dominated Cobbs on his route and got call for basically having too good of coverage.
My guess is he is the same guy. He was not playing B1G defenses back then, and something tells me his oline wasn’t a wet paper bag, either.
I agree

and if it were only a mental/experience thing, we would see the frequency of mistakes correlate to experience. At this point the breakdowns are constant, and spread across the entire line. It's hard not to look at the coaches when stuff like that happens. Blaming the players' abilities at this point really feels like a Hoke "failure to execute" excuse. The coaches need to do a better job teaching and repping the scheme for various scenarios like DL slants and blitzes, plain and simple.

Nice analysis

I'm pretty sure that play #2 is actually well designed to defeat AF's defense. It looks like an RPO where WS should have pulled and thrown to Perry. The CBs were playing off and McDoom is setting up for an edge sealing block. I would attribute the failure of this play to a BR from Speight.

I think we've been incorporating more option plays for Speight this year as we see more teams load the box against us (his zone read keeper against Cinci, for example). Considering this is all new, not surprising that he's struggling to diagnose at times, but getting a couple of these executed per game could really make a difference in how effective the offense feels.

Dude

It is almost verbatim what you wrote in your post below.

"He then communicates the audible to the line, who adjusts their protection scheme accordingly. Speight then typically will communicate the new play to he receivers via hand signals. "

Here's a pretty good explanation:

Cam Gordon

Was a guy who was ostesibly a WR out of HS, moved to safety, then LB. Ended up a decent role player at OLB.
