if they plan to go on 4th downs, probably should've ran on 3rd and 6,especially defense would've been expecting a pass.

Miamisburg / Dayton Club

Hello !

I actually just moved from Miamisburg to Chicago !
I was involved with the UM Club of Dayton and this season we've started to help connect a weekly group to watch the games at Eudora Brewing Company in Kettering.
The owners have Michigan connections so we're there for all of the games except the official alumni club sponsored game watching parties
(Eudora don't serve food and only have food trucks on weekends, so for official alumni club watching parties we pick other bars that serve food)

Please visit our facebook page or website for more information !
I'm helping to update those sites too, and will definitely check on thanksgiving hours and let everyone know if we'll have a group there for THE GAME

Go Blue !

I just don't see the logic of

I just don't see the logic of MSU #2 vs Utah #10

Utah beat: Michigan (currently #22), Utah State, Fresno State, Oregon
MSU beat: Air Force, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Oregon

Utah 62-20 Oregon at Oregon
Oregon 28-31 MSU at MSU

Unless we are evaluating best team/talent vs best performance/records, there's no explanation of #2 vs #10 rankings in the AP poll this week.
If we go by the talent/name recognition logic, does that mean the 2011 Philadelphia eagles dream team should've been crowned superbowl champs?

MSU deserves to be ranked somewhere in the top 10-20 range.
Can certainly rise to #2 over the season if they keep winning.
But definitely not #2 four weeks into the season based on the games they've played, and their performances in those games.

Sure.

Sure.
1. For the "important" games, more students sell their tickets on exchanges like stubhub. Those buyers were less likely to allow others to cram down to their row.

2. The ushers "enforce"/ stop people from walking down/across to different sections more frequently for those games (at least that's what i experienced from 07-11, for bigger games like UTL or maize out games / coordinated stuff like tshirts giveaways like 2009 Penn state - the games where the student section forms a block M with colored tshirts))

Some students give up cramming down to lower rows after a few tries, especially if they don't have friends already at those rows, or if the game already started and they have an OK view from  their assigned seats at upper rows.

Hello, I’m also living in the Dayton area and also a board member for the UM Alumni Club of Dayton. We do have an official game watching event for the Sept 12 game against Oregon State (at TJ Chumps Englewood, see UM Club of Dayton Facebook for more info).

For this Thursday (and other gamedays where we don't have an official club game watching party), we are interested in having to "grow" a regular group at a designated bar. I'm definitely open to FlyerWolverine's idea of gathering at Eudora for the first game. Please comment here / communicate with the UM Club of Dayton if interested.

Thanks !

They deserve it if there are

They deserve it if there are 6....heck maybe if it's a 5 team playoff.

But common opponent:
TCU 30-7 Minnesota
OSU 31-24 Minnesota

TCU lost against top 10 baylor
OSU lost against VaTech

and OSU needs 2 OT to beat PSU.

it's about understanding that

it's about understanding that no one really use acronyms like PaS for Penn State, or LY for last year

woud like to see a summary on hugh freeze too,

has some rumors about recruiting violations but so far seems only connected to the previous staff

great analysis.
When I look at adapting offensive styles and recruiting, I thought Hugh Freeze is a better candidate than Dan Mullen though.
Of course, Ole Miss will probably lose this weekend against alabama, but his record in the SEC has been good so far.

Names

Fire

Now: Funk, Ferrigno [OL is obvious. Special teams returns/coverages are average. TE blocking is horrible the past few years]

Now/End of Season: Hoke, Brandon

Retire at End of Season
Fred Jackson [RBs lacking vision, little player development]

AD

Jeff Long  [Michigan ties, current chairman of playoff committee. Somehow got Bret Bielema to leave Wisconsin]
Brad Bates [played under Bo, experience with great hockey program, experience at academic institutions like BC and Vandy]
Tom Jurich [Great basketball hiring. Louisville competitive in both football and basketball]

Interim HC
Nuss/Mattison/Manning

HC
1. Harbaugh & Harbaugh
2. Interim candidates
depending on 2014 record

The rest:
Hugh Freeze  [Recruit well (Haven't seen scandal at Ole Miss... yet). Good record given competition in SEC. Impressive track records on offense. Undergrad degree in mathematics.]
Mike Gundy [Impressive results at OKST. Needs investigation into SI report.]
Greg Roman [49ers OC. Has interest coaching in college (interviewed for PSU job)]
Rob Chudzinski  [Good offensive coach. Unproven as HC]
Greg Schiano  [Did ok at Rutgers. Could help recruiting the east coast. Worth an interview to see if he's learned from his NFL experience.]
Harold Goodwin [Michigan man, good OL coaching]
Kyle Whittingham  [Solid record at a place that's hard to succeed. Good bowl record.]
Write a blank check to Narduzzi

Other names:
Mack Brown
Ed Orgeron
Josh McDaniels

Coordinators (a few can be considered for HC too)
Adrian Klemm (OC)  [Excellent Recruiter. Coached a great running game.]

Charlie Taaffe (OC)  [Steady completion % and passer rating increase for QBs under him.]
Rocky Seto (DC)  [Solid Defense at USC and now as Seahawks Pass Defense Coordinator]

Andy Moeller (OC)  [Michigan man, alcohol problem, good OL coach.]
Mike Norvell (OC)  [Great offensive coach, will get a HC offer soon]
Randy Shannon (DC)  [Good DC at Miami]

Didn't do a whole lot of research as I focused on the level of competition and stats.
I believe $ can get most of the names above if we want them.

Charlie Taaffe at UCF, could

Charlie Taaffe at UCF, could still coach for a few years
Always have 2 QBs ready. Check out offensive stats from 09 to Present
Rushing stats improve every year, and only slightly dips when star RBs graduate

QBs from 09-Present all improves in TD-INT ratio and completion rates
2 QBs ready also ensures no "unprepared Bellomy" like Nebraska 2012.

For OL coach, look at Adrian Klemm
Similar to us in inexeprience for OLine players in 2013.
Steady rushing and pass protection in SMU and UCLA (also differing style in both schools, shows ability to adapt)

Also a great recruiter, i think named by some sites as best PAC 12 assistant as a recruiter

They need to fire Borges, Jackson, Funk and Ferrigno. Give special teams duty to someone else. Heclinski did quite well recruiting for Michigan and an OK job with receivers. Let him coach the TEs too.
Also need to examine 1. whether there's a need for a QB coach 2. Changes in S&C coach/staff

The clock was running, they

The clock was running, they could've let it run down from 47 to around 25-30 seconds THEN take the timeout.

3rd down either complete pass for TD / incomplete = FG with around 20 seconds left. This gives you comfort in squibbing at yielding field position around Iowa 35-40 since so few seconds left.

if sacked, you have 15+ seconds to run out FG team, more than enough comparing to last week's end of game scramble to tie NW

Instead with 40 seconds left you avoid giving a short field by Kicking it off long. luckily iowa is equally bad, but they could've gotten 7 simply because of our decision making.

And see now they scored on the 1st posession of 2nd half.

Able to develop QBs, with 2 available at all times, so no unprepared Bellomy 2012

I hope they get Adrian Klemm from UCLA for OLine too

Don't know about Cam Cameron

Don't know about Cam Cameron but I know there will be plenty of capable candidates if Borges is fired.

Not really familar with college coaches / names associated with Michigan, but even looking at Penn State's schedule, we see UCF's coordinator Charlie Taaffe doesn a pretty good job. And since 2009 each year his QBs improve, and there's a 2 QB system in place ,similar to northwestern, so 2012 Unprepared Russell Bellomy won't happen (remember Al Borges is also the QB coach and has 2 years to develop Gardner and Bellomy)

On offensive line, there are Michigan connections like Andy Moeller, and excellent recruiter/coach like UCLA's Adrian Klemm

of course, the anti-student

of course, the anti-student crowd totally ignores this comment.
I graduated after fall of 2011, and alabama A&M was my final game in Crisler Arena.
I went to all non-conference games up to AL A&M then I graduated and left the state.
I would say the alumni/fan attendance for games like western illlinois or arkansas pine bluff were just as bad.
For those games, i bet they still count the paid tickets as attendance, but I would guarantee you, the % of students showing up to those games in 2011 (and i bet it's the same from 2008-2010) is higher than the % of non-student who actually showed up.
And least for that half of the season, I spent most of the time at the very top rows (and they wonder why students aren't interested in going to watch a game against Arkansas Pine Bluff once they couldn't get into the Maize Rage bleachers. ) So the lower bowl for students is constantly filled to capacity. The cameras will only show the student section angle for those games too, with the alumni/fan section empty like football against Akron 2013.

Yes i have a problem with it,

Yes i have a problem with it, even i graduated 2 years ago and was never late from 2007-2011 (yea 5th year), went to away games etc, so this change doesn't affect me

I believe having the whole student section GA is better than assigned seats. But I also think there are other tweaks and improvements, such as Brian's suggestion with MCard swipes, that could avoid the various problems suggested by multiple posters in the related threads.

We are the leaders and best and should not settle for a simple solution like implementing a full GA like MSU, while just accepting the shortcomings of that system like our little brother does.

While seniority may lead to "entitlement", I feel that there is actually some entitlement that could be deserved, say if a student is a member of other athletic teams/ have excellent record in MCard attendance of football games etc. Whatever that combination of achievement/record might be, i leave that for the AD. But simply viewing this as a seniority/entitlement issue, instead of a chance to reward students' contribution to the school, could lead to what Brian suggest - losing future fan interest.

Even a simple thing like priority by sections/blocks, GA by rows could be better than simply going full GA.
Simply set a cutoff time like 20 minutes (or whenever band takes field) before kickoff, then let others take the unfilled good sections. Eliminates the line problem while making sure people arrive on time.

this still doesn't render the

this still doesn't render the suggestion invalid. Just raise the bar to, say 12 games, or not reward trasnferred tickets

life isn't fair.
But it

life isn't fair.
But it also doesn't cost much to implement MCard swipes, i imagine.
(Disclaimer - i graduated 2 years ago and was never late from 2007-2011 (yea 5th year), went to away games etc, so this change doesn't affect me)
It's just that it isn't much to ask for a better system with the increased price in student tickets.
GA is definitely better than assigned seats. But there could be other changes to GA that improves it even more. Especially when it can reward students who do show up on time while not requiring them to line up 3 hours before the game.
I feel it's justified given the revenue they make, to ask for a little more than simply throwing a Full GA out there and say "life isn't fair".

I still don't get why

I still don't get why everyone here is supporting going full GA or assigned seats.

How hard is it to implement MCard swipes to track attendance/on time record.
Combine that with GA seatings in blocks, where MCard record and contributions to the school (whether student is on other athletic teams, glee club, solar car, class standing, credits, volunteer etc, whatever AD deems appropriate) gives you the ability to select a certain block preference at the time you apply for tickets.

Then enforce GA by block. By the time the band takes the field (~20 mins before kickoff?), if a good seating block isn't filled up, then other students can move in and take those seats.
This ensures students who earned their preferred seating block/section won't have to show up 3 hours early to the game, while making sure they arrive at least 20 mins (or whatever cutoff time they set) early for the game to save those seats.

Boom. No line problem. No entitled students who show up late.
And when people consistently shows up late they don't get the ability to choose better blocks/sections/rows as MCard is tracked.
In addition, it rewards students who contribute most to the school, as long as they abide by the rules (arriving 20 minutes early.)

Since there's so much

Since there's so much opposition to either have all assigned seats or having all GA
Isn't the best solution is look at what other schools did?
As mentioned earlier in this thread, there are examples of Wisconsin, Alabama and Penn State, where seniority/credits/contribution to the University (e.g. glee club/ other athletic teams, volunteers, student organizations) determine the section, or the ability to choose the section, for the student.

On the other hand, within that block (say 20-30 rows), then you have GA within that section.

There are multiple downsides with a full GA, and a few posters of this thread act like going full GA will solve everything and "punish those entitled students".

Isn't it better if we can combine a point system (e.g. MCard swipe to track attendance/time), with other factors (credits, class standing, being a member of glee club/solar car team/swimming team etc) to let students choose which block they want to apply for when they buy tickets.
Then go GA for those sections when they arrive?
(In addition, this rewards the students by their contribution, in that they might prefer a seat more towards end zone/midfield, where full GA have no control of that. Some might prefer to get a seat in the first few rows at the corner to interact with players after a victory, others might prefer a good view from rows 30-50 closer to midfield. A full GA, or assigned seats, does not offer that flexibility)

Then say 15 minutes before/after kickoff, if a certain block is not full, maybe an usher can hold up a sign to indicate to other students ppl are free to move to that block?

I know there are flaws to everything and 'm just throwing ideas out there, and it does take more resources to get a system in place. But at least this can eliminate the early lining up problem stated by some here, for a full GA, and also preserving some sort of seniority and recognizing student contributions on campus. But it also ensures people have to get there early to get a good seat within their block, or risk losing their assigned block if they are like 15 minutes late (or whatever cutoff time is for ppl to move freely between blocks). This makes sure within say 10 minutes of kickoff, all the “good seats” should be filled up, and people who do care, will show up early, avoiding the disastrous scenarios that we saw in the pictures with 30-50% empty.

i still think this is much better than the current debate of having all assigned seats, or acting like Full GA is the solution (if it is, try doing it for the entire stadium, like the spring game - o right, even that the recruits/parents and other VIP get a better section)

Not sure how to embed tweets, but Goldandblack (purdue's rivals site) also tweeted about the holdup and at one point tweeted that Hazell told KSU players he's not leaving for purdue, but has taken down the tweet since then.

The holdup could be because of contractual negotiations, but could also be Hazell waiting out on other openings (potential opening at cinci - Hazell is Ohio guy and probably want to stay in state and join/be successor of Meyer; also potential offers from Cal, Wiscy or Pitt if PC is gone to Wiscy)

There's still ppl claiming that the negotiations will get done today and Purdue has scheduled the press conference for tomorrow, but they really should try to seal the deal ASAP with dominoes falling at wiscy and with Butch Jones deciding soon

umm... twitter is saying Not

umm... twitter is saying Not so fast, my friend

Isn't the coordinators press

Isn't the coordinators press conference only exist before a game?
I remember after the ND game this year, it was a bye week, and Borges doesn't have a press conference until the Purdue week.
Is this the same in this case, where we might have to wait till bowl season?

I'm guessing you're directing

I'm guessing you're directing this towards international students.

Well, i think the first thing is they have to be introduced to the sport first.

http://www.thepostgame.com/blog/good-sports/201109/video-rice-owls-intr…

i sat in the 56 or 57th row

i sat in the 56 or 57th row as a sophomore in 08.
There were still ppl squeezing in from the top rows...
They also moved some of the students behind the endzone.

i think the question is since they expanded the student section (i think twice, once in 07 and also once sometime after that), did they actually sell out the allotment?

There could be bad planning where they moved the expanded number of students for a couple of years to section 33 and onwards towards the endzone. Then as demand goes back down the size of the sections stay the same. hence the empty seats.

i mean... had we not been

i mean... had we not been able to come back, wouldn' t the Beyer penalty be the focus of post game talk? I'm glad we won the game but there's not even a single discussion of this penalty (whether it should be called / how it could be used as a coaching point for hoke etc...) in the post game press conference.

Pat Fitzgerald's reaction after the penalty is certainly something that changed my opinion on him as a coach too.

and i'm just suggesting this could be areas the media could focus on rather than standard questions that you know hoke would give a non-answer.
and somehow this is voted to be "overrated"

not a single question with

not a single question with regards to Beyer's late hit, or Fitzgerald's reaction?

Well he's also the QB coach,

Well he's also the QB coach, and " The expectation is for the position".
Bellomy is in the system for over a year.
And i guess it's pretty clear from 2010 that you always need a backup plan in case Denard goes out.

so no, it's not totally his fault. But I do believe the performance tonight is worrying in terms of QB development by Borges.
Just curious what everyone here thinks: will it be better if Borges can hire a QB coach so he can focus on OC duties?

Al Borges is also the QB

Al Borges is also the QB coach, where Bellomy is under the system for over a year.

i was a copyeditor back in

i was a copyeditor back in 08. Pretty sure we didn't handle arts or sports sections, only news.
not sure if there are changes in recent years.

PSU vs Ohio 2011

Just curious, SIAP, why is PSU's 2011 win over Ohio also taken away? if i understand correctly this won't give Ohio a win but will also result in one less loss ?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Penn_State_Nittany_Lions_football_tea…

The coach for PSU was Tom Bradley for this game.

Well they couldn't even win

Well they don't even have the best division record
Eagles are 5-1 in the NFC east, giants 3-3

Eagles got hot at the end of the season too with 4 straight wins.
plus even vince young can beat the giants at their home field

mgoblue tickets had the sugar

mgoblue tickets had the sugar bowl (vs Va Tech) up a few minutes earlier. but now the system is down....
it listed tickets will be on sale starting tomorrow morning 8:30 am

i think that it might

i think that it might influence the voters too. a 40-34 win and 44-34 win is a big difference, and that might have been a part that factor into Wisconsin jumping us in the rankings this week

does that mean if okie state

does that mean if okie state lose any games, then boise state will be in the national championship game?

I have an extra, see ticket

I have an extra, see ticket spreadsheet. willing to sell to anyone who can pick it up in aa these couple days.

So are news about moeller or carr OT?
should we "ban all speaking of" them too?
It's 132 years of Michigan football, not 129

pretty sure it's true

http://twitter.com/RavensInsider/status/22892629180030976
I think that earlier comment about Miami with harbaugh is true.
From my extensive flight aware search earlier (see last comment in thread)
http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/cc-anyone-know-if-u-m-plane-near-orange-bowl
that plane should be
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N510SR/history
if you don't have flightaware account, i suggest registering a free one, and you can see the activity of past 4 months. "Related" companies, owned by Stephen Ross, has 2 gulfstream planes and have visited Ann Arbor on gamedays (see willow run stops)
One of them is this N510SR

Another interesting bit, the N220DF plane shared by Brandon and Domino's (again, see the orange bowl plane thread for explanation), had just visited Chicago Executive airport, one of the closest airport to evanston, IL .... Not saying that it means pat fitzgerald but certainly interesting.

long time first time, pls delete if contain private info

actually found a link about an agreement about brandon still using domino's aircraft

https://techagreements.com/agreement-preview.aspx?search=govlaw&gov=27&…

http://www.footnoted.com/my-big-fat-deal/freshly-baked-employment-agree…

"he keeps the right to use his “Yearly Aircraft Hours” on the company’s plane through the end of FY 2011, or until he stops serving on Dominos’ board."
flight tracker shows it was in jacksonville for bowl game, and stop at willow run a few times

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N220DF/history

also this site can search FAA by register name, or company name, or register location etc.
http://www.aircraftone.com/search.asp?type=rn
So i first searched "related", which is supposed to be Stephen Ross's company from Wikipedia. It yielded 2 planes, both stopped at willow run during game days

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N510SR/history
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N765XJ/history

from this former post http://mgoblog.com/content/rich-rodriguez-has-left-stallworth-house
it was mentioned that "chase equipment" is a company that leases plane for coaches
it yielded alot of results from aircraftone.com ; however, some of those on the list have hidden their flight track info on flight aware, however, among those info not hidden, one has flown frequently from willow run
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N510SD/history
I don't think it's a coincidence that it stopped flying from Dec 21 to Jan 3 (the recruiting dead period)

During my search for "chase equipment", i think i found WMU's recruiting plane too
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N373WP/history
i also did a search based on planes register to ann arbor, but there are too many

I know this might be a bit creepy, and it's my first post too (usually just read, don't post), but i'm too boring in a hotel in san francisco (ye i visited stanford stadium lol) during winter break, heading back to aa tmr for another semester
