yeah he played TE in hs at yeah he played a lot of TE in hs at about 250 lbs, as well as C for the basketball team. He has added some serious mass.
Jared Veldheer! holy shit, that guy went to my hs, Forest Hills Northern. I had no idea he had developed into that kind of player! He's a couple years older than me so I never played with him, but word at the time was that he denied a preferred walk-on spot at ND despite them being the only d1 school to show interest. Obviously, I hope he has a long and illustrious nfl career :)
haha haha right, for whatever reason Gerg feels that the strong side safety should roam deep, and the weak side should be up in run support. Possibly/probably because the SLB (stevie brown this year) in our system functions closely to what the SS would do and covers the area the SS normally would, and so our actual SS plays deep.
SS vs FS Strong Safety lines up on the strong side of the offense (TE side if they use a TE), free safety on the weak side. So, generally, but not necessarily, the SS does more run support and the FS more pass coverage. In our defense the SS still lines up on the strong side and the FS on the weak, we just reverse their roles.
I feel bad for Cissoko, but I feel bad for Cissoko, but he made this bed, so for now he's gotta sleep in it. We should all pray that he gets his life back on track.

Petty Really? Negged for hoping a kid is here playing football and getting a Michigan education?
haha great. I'd start that haha great. I'd start that thread about the keys and claw now, but it seems (based on the negs) that the current board opinion of me is quite low (down from the neutrality of being unknown) and so it would be met with contempt, so perhaps another day, once this has blown over :p
Let's hope this means he'll Let's hope this means he'll be here next year, playing football and getting a great education.
Thank you for your constructive criticism Of this I was unaware; I don't read the threads that look useless, as most of the "don't rush the court" threads did. This one I came to by happenstance and couldn't believe the tone coming to The Impaler, who I've seen to be a generally quality poster in my time viewing the board. Though, I still can't believe I got negged for advocating classy behavior :/
Yeah, I had to do pretty well Yeah, I had to do pretty well to get into UofM. Transferring here from a Community College is, unsurprisingly, competitive. The point is, you can be LOUD and INTIMIDATING, while maintaining the CLASS that Michigan fans have been known for.
Fair Point Fair point AK, I'm not so much responding to the OP as I am the commentors, but I think we could all use this to reevaluate our behavior as fans.
Not to be condescending, but Both your logic and your reading comprehension skills needs work. I say we shouldnt do something because it's un-intimidating, so it follows that I believe we Should be intimidating. Why would I be from the "down in front" crowd? You sat near the student section? I sat IN the student section, and was hoarse from saturday after the game until the next saturday, because I enjoy yelling at outrageous volumes for my team. That doesn't change the fact that intimidation from jingling keys is laughable, and the claw just looks ridiculous.
Constructive Criticism First of all, thank you MadtownMaize for mindlessly bringing penis-size humor into the thread; God knows it was necessary and relevant. Secondly, as Michigan fans, maybe instead of neg-banging everyone who tells us something we don't like, we should take to heart what's being said. Lately, we really have acted like a fickle fan base. In football we've been spoiled and cannot deal with adversity (not that we could when we were good- 2007 Oregon game, the crowd applauded Chad Henne injuring his shoulder), and in basketball we are so starved for something good that we seem desperate. Rather than crucify the guy, why not think about what he's said and use it constructively. Let's realize we won't be perfect nor disastrous forever, and let's deal with both ups and downs with class. On another note, as Vlad points out, the jinglin the keys on third down is silly and not only un-intimidating, but probably anti-intimidating. Same goes for that Claw bs that the Daily sponsors.
I'm sorry I just can't take anyone who thinks a 14 team conference is a good idea seriously.
The big ten's recent bowl The big ten's recent bowl record is probably a little skewed because it's been Big 10 #4 playing another conferences #3, big ten #3 playing another conferences #2, etc... Still though, we've looked pretty bad.
I don't care what color his I don't care what color his skin is or how he's rated, that boy can play. That's the type of player you want on your team; he's fast, he's tough, and he's not so small that it will be a problem at the college level.
Burn it, obviously. Burn it, obviously.
Except that Mouton and Brown Except that Mouton and Brown are former safeties, and Ezeh was predominantly a high school running back.
"Actually, given that this "Actually, given that this year's wins against Notre Dame and Indiana came within the closing minutes, the 5-7 Wolverines could easily have repeated last season's dismal record." Gotta love how he fails to mention the Overtime loss to michigan state, and the loss to bcs bound Iowa by 2.
Only because we're so used to Only because we're so used to seeing bullshit 40 times. Also, there are many more important things than being able to run fast in a straight line for 40 yards, without pads on.
Running really fast in a Running really fast in a straight line doesnt make you a good football player.
He's been playing He's been playing... didn't he score during the bowling green loss friday? I seem to remember him getting a nice one in over the bg goalie's left shoulder. whoops, someone beat me to it.
Dumb or a liar? "the football program failed to keep the required practice logs" This is a lie; is this libel?
When your team gives up over When your team gives up over 300 yards on the ground, the middle linebacker probably didn't play that well. But, I wasn't paying much attention to him during the game, and the coaches said they graded him highly, so it's possible.
No coach would sacrifice on No coach would sacrifice on the field success to appease high school recruits.
That's just some quality That's just some quality coding by espn :p
yes. He's even small for a yes. He's even small for a corner, which is already the smallest position on the defense, and safeties (even the fs) have more responsibilities against the run that he probably wouldnt handle well at his size.
Not counting OSU I could never stand Joe Tiller, and subsequently have never been able to stand Purdue. He whined and bitched about everything, from refs not calling our guys for pass interference to that snake oil bs even more recently. Sparty's really only annoying once a decade, otherwise it'd be them. Contrary to what other posters have said, I've never had a problem with Penn State or their fans. I've never seen them play dirty or show a lack of sportsmanship, and in talking their fans have always been very reasonable (obviously they don't like us much 'cause we beat them every year, but they were still respectful). Though, I've never been to a game at State College and I've heard the fans are much more rowdy there.
Great Write Up Thanks for this; if you planned on doing another that'd be great because I think we'd all like to hear how he does against a less overwhelming team. Also, your assessment of his speed (great quickness/agility, good not great top-end speed) is about what I expected after watching his recruiting video, but still a little disappointing after reading about how he's a 4.4 guy. However, from what you say his passing skills aren't bad, his football IQ is fairly advanced and he's got a strong arm, which is exciting! Anyway, thanks for the game analysis, hopefully you'll have time for another one sometime during the season! Oh, forgot to ask, how big did he look? He's listed at a solid 6-3 185 lbs. Do ya think that's program height/weight or did he really look it?
It's also possible that he's It's also possible that he's just a once in a century physical freak of nature. Or at least, that's what I'd like to believe.
haha, it's funny how that haha, it's funny how that works. Write something stupid, get negative points. Beg people not to neg you, get even more negative points. As other people have said, if you actually have to include a 'no-neg plea' at the end of your post, there's a good chance you're going to get negged.
lol whatever, i thought the lol whatever, i thought the red squiggly line thing was funny :p
I think he'd technically I think he'd technically still be a true freshman in 2010 if he goes to prep school. But I'm not 100% sure, so somebody (like MGoObes, he knows friggin everything) correct me if I'm wrong.
Good thing that never Good thing that never happens, eh?
congratulations "Alright ass-wipe...i'm out... you officially got me good! Gonna go enjoy my 4th outdoors with some real human interaction....the co-ed kind. Have fun with your d*ck in your hand." Thoughtless, arbitrary insults about a stranger's personal life! Both original and mature!
40 times He might be fast, but he's not legitimate 4.35 fast. Times at camps tend to run ~.2-.3 seconds faster than they actually are, so he's probably running closer to a 4.6 (still very fast btw). The NFL combine gets all that special electronic shit so they're as accurate as it gets.
Good luck Good luck with your entrees, I'm really diggin the white jersey, they're modern and stylish without going too overboard like the oregon football team's. Something seems off about the red jersey, and at first I couldn't figure it out, but then it came to me. It bears too much resemblance to those fugly avalanche jerseys. My mind auto-hates anything that reminds me of them. The Gordie Howe jersey gets a 10 for Originality, really a great concept, and one I actually hope they employ. However, as Boutros said, the smiling grandpa face doesn't do a lot for me. Good Idea, jersey, and patch, but maybe a different Howe logo.
Umm... Did you play football? We'll see how it works, and I trust it will because Greg Robinson knows a hell of a lot more about football than any of us, but if Stevie Brown is constantly asked to take on lead blockers or blocking TE's, he probably is't going to be making many tackles. From what I understand, the Spinner position was 'created' to counter spread teams who would pass Or run with 3-4 wides in, so you'd have a guy who could play against the run without being a coverage liability. It was Not designed to take on 240+ TEs or fullbacks with a head of steam.
Right, there is no Right, there is no spread-mold for defense... because the spread is an offensive scheme, not a defensive scheme. And add lineman to QB's and Slots, because spread-type offensive lineman are typically lighter and quicker (Christian Pace) than prototypical NFL lineman, so almost every position on the offense is judged differently. I think the difference between recruiting rankings and actual worth of a defensive player is still there, but much less of a factor because there's no team (that I know of) that Only uses one defensive scheme, like one-gap dline or 3 deep coverage, and because (all?) popular defensive schemes are used in the NFL was well as in college ball. Still, a team that runs a lot of cover 2 or that leaves their safeties in man on WR's will put a higher premium on safeties with speed and quickness than size, and a team that runs a mostly two-gap 3-4 will need bigger, stronger lineman than a mostly one-gap 4-3.
Why's that? I sure as hell Why's that? I sure as hell hope they do... however I'm just not sure this spinner thing is gonna work against running teams. I think Ezeh will do well, but I fear Brown will get runover a lot by Wisconsin/Iowa/MSU/OSU Tight Ends. Because they'll be blocking him, and they'll be much, much larger than he is.
Keep In Mind Those statistics are from all teams, and most teams that have success use and recruit players that fit the NFL mold, rather than the spread mold.
Forgive me if I'm wrong... but isn't the SAM (now Spinner) meant to be a bigger, stronger LB who stands tall against the run? It seems that if we've got 215 lbs Stevie Brown lining up against the opposing team's TE, we're gonna have some trouble stopping a strong running game. Add into it that we've got 3 true lineman and a hybrid passrusher (Quick), does it not seem like we'll be vulnerable against a good running team? btw, Deathbacker and Wolfbacker > Quick and Spinner.
I agree with you that I agree with you that loyalties should ideally be to a team and not a conference, but I'm not sure there is any way to accomplish this. Conference loyalties may be inevitable :(
Uh-oh Wikipedia contradicts itself on this one... "a player may be granted a redshirt if he or she has participated in less than 10% of the season taking place in an academic year" However, later..... "any participation in any competition counts as a season of eligibility. For example, even a single play in a football game counts as participation"
actually... "It's just a better program and it has been for a very long time." Actually, other than the last 15 years (Izzo), I would not have called MSU a better basketball school. If you look at our winning %'s since the 60's, I bet they're about equal*, despite our awful record since the Fab Five scandal. *counting the wins that we forfeited.
