Waitress: Would you like a Coke
Waitress: What kind?
And they don't mean regular, diet, etc. Orange Coke = orange pop

Let me try to explain this in terms you might understand, WD. The absence of "pings" is to baseball as noon games are to Michigan Stadium.
And good riddance to 27-6 scores. That's a football game, not a baseball game.

Harbaugh has done some of this - like the time he bought blue work shirts for his team. And he may not like the quotes on theweight room wall, but he does like them on twitter.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Agree.||
I know you're getting some flack, but the primary responsibility for academic integrity lies with the college/university and the accrediting agency. The UNC scandal today, Univ. of Georgia scandal in the early 80s happened because the universities put athletics above their academic mission. The NCAA has to deal with the fallout because such misbehavior does give a school an unfair athletic advantage, but that's mop up duty really.

I checked MaizMama's diary, and the WFA the last 2 years took place during the satellite camps.

that Harbaugh would speak.
There are pics from the banquet on the front page of the MHSFCA's web site. Some in suit & tie, some in polos, etc. http://www.mhsfca.com/
Here's video of Nussmeier speaking at last year's banquet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Okv7ey_PwzQ

athletic development dept? Doesn't that sound like it didn't go through Hoke's office, but the AD's office?
Just the note makes me think that there are going to be a lot of juicy details in Bacon's upcoming book.

It was part of the deal worked with SCG that was announced just before Brandon resigned. The piece that got the most attention was cutting the price of student football tickets. But in the full release was a bit about even further reduced prices for students with financial need.
See 5th paragraph of this Daily article.http://www.michigandaily.com/sports/michigan-wolverines-football-dave-brandon-athletic-department-ticket-prices
|11 weeks 6 days ago||Additionally, Hoke inherited a lot of roster issues:||
Unbalanced roster (where were the Olinemen, for example), a 2010 class with ~75% attrition ,etc. It seems that as he got further into his tenure he was able to redshoirt more. Peppers & Cole were 2 notable non-redshirts from the 2014 class, but they were both exceptional players.
|11 weeks 6 days ago||Also, he seems to be a leader in the locker room.||
It was reported after Hoke was fired that Hoke asked Desmond to help keep the team together.

But headlines in Alabama papers shortly before signing day were about Alabama having cut a player. Flat out cut, as if he were an nfl player who didn't make the roster. Wasn't medical, wasn't school or character issues. He just wasn't a good enough player. So much for All those noble NCAA principles.
|13 weeks 4 days ago||Why do so so many people confuse code of conduct||
with legal system?
You attend a college/university, you agree to abide by the code of conduct. There's no "innocent until proven guilty" with the code of conduct. It covers more than sexual misdeeds. For example, the daughter of a friend of mine was living in on-campus housing operated by a 3rd party. The daughter's roommate was a real piece of work. There were some serious issues which the housing staff blew off. But then the roommate took to posting threats against the daughter on Facebook. Because the school policy allowed parents & such to also file complaints, my friend was able to report the Facebook threats to the school, which took action as this was a serious violation of the code of conduct. That was the last semester the roommate was enrolled at the school.
|13 weeks 4 days ago||I think the author is referring to Mike McQueary.||
Not sure what his testimony ended up being on the stand, but the initial reporting was that he witnessed Sandusky assaulting a kid and instead of confronting Sandusky, calling 911, etc he turned & walked away. Then the next day he contacted Joe P re what he had witnessed. And then the game of telephone began watering down what McQueary had seen.
But let's not forget that this wasn't the only red flag wrt Sandusky that PSU officials were aware of. And what did they do? They moved Sandusky's camp thing from main campus to Berend(sic). Thanks, guys.

|14 weeks 5 days ago||It shouln't be confusing.||
Yes, the NCAA has a minimum.
But the NCAA isn't an admissions office.
There are ways to "fix" a player's grades/credits to meet the NCAA minimums. Some are legit, others are shady. Some admissions offices will accept the shady fixes for players. Other won't. It's a matter of how does the school weigh academics v. winning.
For example, UM lost a recruit to Alabama, 'cause the kid really wanted to study engineering. One of the engineering profs at Alabama was quoted as saying that they'd work with the kid so he'd succeed. In the first place, you don't go to Alabama to study engineering; you go to Auburn. But in the 2nd place, engineering is HARD. Even good students don't succeed. So an eng prof making that kind of statement is announcing that he is willing to compromise academic standards for football players. So where do you think Alabama ranks winning v. academics? And how does that compare to UM.
|14 weeks 5 days ago||1) 1000 JUCO's works out to||
3.5% of the undergrad population. That same percentage applied to 85 scholarships would work out to 3 players.
2) I recall reading on this board that a lot of Michigan's JUCOs come from a school which has a relationship with Michigan, the courses transfer,etc.
3) There was a post on the board in the last week or so that shared an article on a guy who helped JUCOs get eligible for 4 year programs. He took advantage of schools with online courses, did the work/took the tests for the kids, etc. Any decent admissions office would be aware of these "credit mills" (can't call them diploma mills) and would be unlikely to accept their credits when a student - ANY student - wanted to transfer.
