"It's a lot easier being a drug dealer than an AAU coach" - this guy. Tell me something I don't know. I mean, don't think but have never tried either.

|4 days 6 hours ago||Seth wrote a Hokepoints addressing when||
the Oline might be good. http://mgoblog.com/content/hokepoints-when-will-o-line-be-ready
The first chart, examining almost 20 years of Michigan history, indicates that Oline players have been mostly backups in their 2nd and 3rd years. It takes 4/5years for them to be solid or better.
This years Oline, except for Miller, Glasgow, and Byrzinski, is all 3rd year or less.
Based on this, it appears unresonable to expect Funk to accomplish in 2/3 years what it took other Michigan Oline coaches 4/5 years to accomplish.

the coach in the dorm story was Miles.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||It's availability, too||
App state moved from div 1-a to div 1. When you change divisions you have a lot of openings as it takes some time to be incorporated into your new opponents schedules.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||How do you "know"||
that Hoke doesn't like to redshirt? With the attrition that the program has experienced in the 2011 and prior classes and the resultant dearth of upperclassmen (somthing like only 25 juniors and seniors last year,), the program hasn't been in a position to afford redshirts, a fact which you admit ("I am on record I want almost all of our freshmen to redshirt <b>when we finally have our numbers up</>." [emphasis added])
|8 weeks 5 days ago||I really think||
you should at least removeve those recruits who never made it to campus. I saw Demar Dorsey & stopped reading because you can't develop a player who never was on the team.
|9 weeks 6 days ago||Tiger Woods||
The networks want tiger woods in tournaments. It makes a big difference in ratings if he's not playing

Should be a tshirt.
|11 weeks 1 day ago||Alabama fans||
grumbled plenty about him this year. The AD is probably saner than the fans, as there is definitely a vocal group of the "what have you done for me lately" variety.

That's a slippery slope
|16 weeks 2 hours ago||But don't you think||
That the recent depth issues (see Brian's & Seth's articles from yesterday) contribute to the lack of a "real" spring game?
|16 weeks 2 days ago||That's what I get for using Wikipedia for a source.||
I see now what my issue was with 2013 UCONN: record split over 2 coaches. I'll trust you on App State.
And thank you for making my point stronger.
|16 weeks 2 days ago||Your prediction would be stronger if your facts weren't suspect||
2013 UCONN: FBS. 8-3
2013 Utah: FBS. 5-7.
2013 App State. FCS. 8-3
2005-2007 App State was the 3 time Div 1 FCS National Champ
|16 weeks 3 days ago||But the salary is also a statement in the football arms race.||
I get that many fans think Hoke is the wrong choice,and based on his won-loss record should not have been hired. (For the record,I think W-L is only one criteria to consider,and may not be the most important criteria. See Rodriguez, R.)
But you have a new AD, an incumbent coach who is not meeting expectations, and decide you need to replace said coach. Oh, and let's remember how many coaches passed on Michigan in 2008.
As AD you believe the Michigan head coach is one of the premier jobs in CFB. But the salary is not comensurate with that position. So you pay your new coach, and your coordinators, what the other top programs are paying.
Which may be part of the reason Michigan was able to hire Alabama's offensive coordinator this off season. And if you should need to hire a new head coach after the 2014 season, wouldn't you expect to be able to attract more of the top names in coaching?
|16 weeks 3 days ago||Brian, you may not like how things turned out,||
but that doesn't mean DB was on the losing end of the deals.
For example, the sanctions thing. I'd contend that accepting responsibility and not shirking your punishement is an example of "the Michigan diference." See UM re the basketball violations. Or do you really want Michigan to be more like Ohio State, with all that that means?
The Borges raise: timing is everything. Borges got that raise after Michigan went 11-2 and won the Sugar Bowl.
Notre Dame: Like DB was going to be able to change ND's mind. And since football schedules are set so far in advance, he didn't have much to choose from.On paper, it's fine: ND replaced by a team from the strongest conference.
The only thing from your list that to me is inarguably a loss is the Ohio State/MSU scheduling. But I don't agree that UM/Ohio State in different divisions and the protected crossover is bad. Put the 2 historically strongest programs in opposite divisions to set up frequent UM/OSU playing for the title. The script writes itself for TV.

|17 weeks 19 hours ago||How dare||
How dare a coach with what, around 120 assisstants and players, delegate.
|17 weeks 1 day ago||Some long needed perspective.||
The "It's impossible for the Oline to be better" crowd seems to have forgotten how much the D improved from RR's last year to BH's first year.
Caveats do apply: Oline is evidently more challenging to master, requires a longer apprenticeship, if you will. Seth or The Mathlete's analysis (I've forgotten who did it) shows that some Oline players reach the desired performance level in year 3, while others do in year 4.

Chicago gets snow every winter. They either have the equipment to deal with it or nobody goes anywhere for what, 3 months?
Snow is such an infrequent occurance down south, more of a once every few years event (even if we've had more than one storm this year) that it isn't economical to invest in much snow equipment. Plus, after a couple of days the weather returns to normal and the snow melts.
I moved down here from western PA 25 yeas ago. Maybe 5-7 snow events in N AL in that time? The worst was it stayed below freezing for about a week before the sun took care of it. And yes, I'm out of practice driving in the stuff, and no my car's not equipped for it. so like the locals I stay off the roads. Besides, the local response to precipitation (snow and rain) is drive faster!
|29 weeks 15 hours ago||Is your issue that the AA police didn't investigate?||
Because the source of much of the info posted on this board the last couple of days is the police report.
Or don't you believe that a University should have a Code of Student Conduct and hold students accountable to it?
|29 weeks 16 hours ago||It is generally considered a good thing if all student conduct||
is handled by the same university office. Problems arise when athletes' conduct is handled by on office under the AD.
|29 weeks 16 hours ago||new info?||
"Our current process allows that, if new information is obtained at a later point, the university could commence an investigation at that time."
This could be what happened.
|29 weeks 23 hours ago||Oh, so that's the problem||
With the lions. And all these years I thought it was the fords.
|29 weeks 1 day ago||Actually, as several posters have pointed out,||
FERPA prevents the University from saying anything about Gibbon's educational status. You'll note in the Daily article that both the AD's office and a University spokesman when asked to comment said they couldn't say anything about it.
So Hoke can't say anything about it, and "No Comment" was not going to fly. An alternative interpretation is that Hoke had to say something, and this was the best they could come up with that fit within the narrow parameters they had to work within.
