Most peoples thoughts on QB news:
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Not outside the realm of possiblity||
It's pretty darn annoying to read all these projections about what could happen though. Anything could happen. Aliens may attack in the 3rd quarter of the season opener, and it could lead to Jabrill Peppers being hit by some exotic weapon, but it doesn't hurt him, it only increases his killing power! We lose the starting linebacker corp in the resulting explosion, but its ok because at twice his normal size and now with the ability to cloak a la Predator we ONLY need Peppers at linebacker! In fact this is my season preview for the defense. Stay tuned for the unbelieavable turn of events in our starting QB competition.

Is that these are more like rough guidlines of what a team might be capable of. Any team in the top 5 is likely to be a national title contender. Any team in the top 12-14ish should be a conference title contender. Any team in the top 25 is a division title contender.
If we're being very honest this poll isn't really that crazy. Michigan seems like a top ten team, but we have some question marks like QB that might mean a less than optimal season. On the other hand a team like OSU has lost a lot of players, but as mentioned above has proven that reloading isn't something that is going to slow them down much. ND recieves the normal ND coaches poll bump because ND, and MSU seems like they probably are a little higher than they should be, but again if you keep the rough estiamtes above in mind I wouldn't count them out of a potential conference title if things broke the right way for them.

With my wife who is at least as big a Michigan football fan as I am and my daughter who was born in time to catch the tale end of last season, but should have more fun watching this season. Generally my pets fear the living room when football is on and will not come within 50 feet of it except for one of the cats who I think is going a bit deaf.

Is there some rule against showing any of this gear in an outdoor setting. Like say a stadium or hell maybe just a well lit room.
|6 weeks 13 hours ago||Sleep Now||
You're going to have simultanouesly the best and worst of times in your life, and it doesn't hurt to be all cuaght up on sleep. Consider also that Babies sleep a lot. It's just not normally at night. I would reccomend cultivating a skill of falling asleep during the day in various locations in your home.

She's just starting to get fun. She can clap her hands when she's exited. She's trying her first big people food (loved the braised shortribs and gnocchi I made this Sunday), and just genearlly making a huge mess of that. I've got a pack I can take her on walks in and she spends 45 minutes just babbling and playing with my hat, and laughing hysterically when it falls off. She can sort of say dada though it's clear the word and the object are not really associated just yet, but it still makes me grin like an idiot everytime.
If she'd just stay the hell asleep at night she'd be perfect. Seriously though 1:30 last night for like an hour she just decided to wail inconsolably for 1 minute at a time with like 5 minute breaks in between. It was just enough so you'd start to fall back to sleep and then it would start up again. I'm a freaking zombie today.

The most depressing thing I'll read on mgoblog for a year or two.
|14 weeks 1 day ago||9/11||
I met legalwife welcome week of college. We kept randomly meeting for a year. Eventually we became good friends. We didn't end up getting together until 9/11. It was the only time I recall classes being cancelled at U of M. I didn't know what else to do, so I went to her place. It was just sort of a natural reaction to stress (had a parent flying out of NYC that day). We sat on the couch and didn't really talk just sort of were there together, and it felt like something had clicked into place. It was then I realized yep this one is the one. From that point on we've been pretty inseparable.

But whatever computer engineering course introduced threading. At that point I knew whole heartedly that my days as an engineer were numbered and that I should really think about another career.
Law school was 10 times easier than getting my engineering degree. Of course by that poin in time I'd sobered up and started studying...

|26 weeks 5 days ago||Legalblue to the rescue!||
So I love this stuff because it deals with both my degrees. I was asked to dumb this down for someone to explain both the legal and technical aspects of what's going on. Warning many of you are gonna want to TL;DR the hell out of this.
A little bit of an over simplification is this: Imagine your phone as a little safe. It's a ridiculously sturdy safe though and there's no (reasonable) way to access the contents of the safe without the combination. What's really nice is only you the user has a combination to the lock. In this case law enforcement has the safe( I-phone), but can't get into it because they don't know the combination. There's a brute force approach to try to get into the safe where you start trying every possible combination on the lock, but that could take literally years to yield any results. The FBI went to Apple and said "hey open this safe for us." Apple says "best we can do is try to crack this sucker the slow painful brute force way." The FBI then went to the Court and said "We think they're not giving us reasonable assistance in cracking this lock because there's another way in and Apple won't build it for us." You see Apple could build an "easy button." This easy button would fit right over the lock and you just press the button and presto the safe is open. The judge says "Hey apple it's one phone one time. Go ahead and build the FBI that Easy Button they want because the data on this particular phone is very important.
Apple is not a dumb company though and knows a couple things: Once you build an easy button that button can be really easily replicated and given to other people that you DO NOT want to have the easy button. At that point there's no use in having locks in the first place. They also know that frankly the national intelligence apparatus is not the most trustworthy set of hombres on the planet. There's extraordinarily little oversite and there's no guarantee that in the future the FBI won't use the easy button on other phones regardless of court order. Also the FBI might give the easy button to the NSA or one of the other scary acronyms out there. They aren't bound by things like the 4th amendment when they are searching peoples phones in other countries. Apple now makes a less desirable product because it is known to be unsecure and the USA is known to collect any foreign data they can conceivably get their hands on.
Lastly, this is not an Apple only problem. If the FBI get's their way here it is likely to set a precedent in 9th circuit, if not the nation should the SCOTUS take it up. If the FBI wins the government as a whole will have the ability to go to other companies and say that the court found that it was reasonable assistance to build an easy button for any system you build that uses encryption (might be a few exceptions, but lets ignore that for the moment since we're getting doomsday-ey).
TLDR versin if the governemnt wins they gonna know what porn you looks at even if you use Tor.
|26 weeks 5 days ago||All this has happened before. All this will happen again.||
In '03 or maybe '04 when I was in school there was something called the "Markley flu" that was going around for a couple weeks which sounds exactly like this.
Those afflicted were struck down with the same symptoms and the halls of UHS filled with the shambling wrecks of what previously had been students.
Seriously though I recall it being the most awful thing ever. My sincere sympathy to those who are ill
|26 weeks 6 days ago||I don't know...||
Woodson as coach sounds good in theory, but in practice saying "ok, go out there and just be insanely athletically gifted." probably only really resonates with Jabrill Peppers.
|28 weeks 6 days ago||Dammit!!!||
I'm alergic to fish! Also who thinks of food at a time like this! What I really want to know is if that guy thinks we'll get Rashan Gary?
I'm gonna go fix a poptart or something I'm suddenly hungry.
|29 weeks 15 hours ago||How's the Weather?||
Seriously anything but rehashing something that none of can control that will be over and done with in 30ish hours.
It snowed here yesterday. Crappy drive into work this morning. Almost hit a dude who decided to stop at the bottom or a hill for reasons that are beyond me. I also really hope we pick up Rashan Gary. Anyways, so I flipped the jerk off, and he just kind of shrugs his shoulders. What does that even mean? "Oops I messed up?" "Get over it?" "I can't think of a cogent thing to yell?"

Now while not getting any sleep you can post more content! Seriously, it's all true. I've got a 3 month old and I think I slept through a whole night one time.
That being said the whole Dad thing is pretty freaking awesome. Congrats and Enjoy!
|30 weeks 6 days ago||I Need More Guidance on This||
Perhaps some type of framework that codifies what is and is not a "useless new topic." I mean, we know the rough outline of the offense and we're all very clear on the punishment, but by any legal standard this new rule should be void for vagueness.
To that end I propose a new thread where we discuss what should and should not constitute a "useless new topic." And for that matter there are clear tangential issues that should be considered. Is the use of OT in the heading merely a guide for fearless leader to nuke the crap out of the poster, or are there certain OTs that are less OT than other OTs?
So yeah, if someone could just start up the thread I mentioned above that would be much appreciated. I have an appointment I can't miss or you know I'd do it myself...

We weren't supposed to be able to run on these guys
|35 weeks 4 days ago||Finn||
So is this guy force sensitive or what? I loved the whole movie, but this had me scratching my head all night. Is he the only guy in 7 star wars films to use a lightsaber who has no ability with the force or is there something there that just hasn't been trained at all?
Seemed like Rey knew exactly what she was doing by the end of the film as far as the force was concerned, but Finn never had one moment where it seemed like he was getting it other than holding his own against Kylo in a lightsaber fight. Thoughts?
|36 weeks 15 hours ago||Me and my horse||
Are doing just fine thank you. It's the nice thing about college athletics. Everyone can afford to have a high horse. Literally none of this matters in the grand scheme of things. It's a game, and we as a group can be just as invested in it being played the right way as we can in an outcome.
As my original comment said I don't care so much that he struck this player. I care that he thought his next move should be to cover that fact up.
|36 weeks 16 hours ago||It's a big damn deal||
He's accused of striking a player and asking both players and coaches to lie about it. I'm more worreid about the accusations of a cover up then I am about the initial indicent. If he'd come out and said, "I made a mistake and it was in the heat of the moment it wasn't the right thing to do and I take responsbility" he probably still has a head coaching position.
The cover up shows his character and that's what got him fired and what should keep him from being a coach at U of M.
|36 weeks 16 hours ago||Wow||
This is not a guy who would be a good hire for U of M. First, yeah, the dishonesty thing is a big damn deal. You yourself may "misremember" an incident, but asking other people especially those you are in a position of power over to lie to cover you is double plus ungood.
Also how is recruiting going to go? You thinks parents aren't going o be concerned that there child is going to be slapped around by the DC? Or asked to lie to cover up his misdeeds?
No thanks, I don't really care how good he is at Xs and Os, character is at least as important as football ability.
|36 weeks 1 day ago||Check out his blocking||
5:22 ish mark of the video he gets not one but two good blocks and is just as fired up about it as he is about some of the TD catches. That makes me happy.
