|1 week 2 days ago||Somebody has to get them the ball||
I think taking much of anything from the 2014 season as a basis for comparison is doing the WR corps a diservice. The fact of the matter is Michigan had a #1 target and he was injured and prone to drop the football. Other than that no one really had a chance to shine out thee because the ball never came to them. If we have a QB that has time in the pocket and can make reasonable decisions I think even a mediocre group of recievers can look good. If the QB is getting knocked around and is throwing into pressure even an excellent group of recievers is going to look bad.
I think the only reasonable thing we can say is that there are athletes at the WR position and their overall value to this team is going to be largely dependent on who is getting them the ball.

Saw a UFO once. Don't mean an alien spacecraft necessarily, just an object in the sky flying around that I couldn't ID easily, and sort of scared the hell out of me. It happened when I was pretty young and sparked a life long obsession with the subject.
The most interesting point of the discussion to me is the resolution of the Fermi Paradox. I tend to think that maybe we have been visted, but it's also clear that there's no definitive evidence that's happened. If you have 6 minutes here's a fun video about the Fermi Paradox.

But it's more a difference in degree than a difference in kind. Placing young attractice females in a position to interact with a recruit isn't exactly new, but what it implies is kind of slimy. Photoshoping a recruit on the cover of a magazine and showing them Big Ten/National title while perhaps not telling the whole truth is more an aspirational type of goal. There's at least a non skeezy implication behind it. All that being said college football recruiting is not a clean business this particular recruit looked to be having an enjoyable time (because of course). I hope he has a great recruiting experience, and makes a choice that's a good fit for him, and no I'm not implying that kind of choice or that kind of fit (you all have filthy minds).

Gather close Mgoers and you shall hear my tale of wedding woe:
First things first, It was by and large a wonderful wedding. Legalwife is not a big fan of having friends who also happen to be female so she had a bridesman and two bridesmaids. All the bridesmaids lived in different states and picked up their dresses separately. No one had bothered to really look at these things until the day of the wedding. Once the dresses came out it was clear they did not match. Worse, the best way to describe the peach dress was unimaginably ugly. Bridesman was of course in a suit but it was a suit that was supposed to complement the bridesmaids. It did not. I panicked because I assume legalwife was awful upset about this. We had essentally no chance that morning to talk to one another, and I only found out through a series of quick texts from legalsister. So anyway the groomsmen and I are at the chapel waiting and waiting... and waiting. I think maybe she's not going through with this! Maybe this dress thing has just pushed her over the edge and she's in tears and or otherwise inconsolable! I send the best man for a report on what the hell is going on. He returns with the following news: "I found them. They were laughing an drinking wine and generally unaware that the wedding had started 30 minutes ago. They're on the way."
Long story short. Things will go wrong and as long as you don't care nobody else will either.

So when you're talking abut a reduction in charges of this variety there is generally still a finding that the factual basis of the charge was domestic violence. In fact in my state the prosecutor would need to make a specific record that there was no factual basis for charging DV in order to dismiss that portion of a charge. Sweetheart plea deals happen very frequently in DV cases where the victim is reluctant to testify. This reluctancy has a number of root causes ranging from "none of this happned" to "all of this happned but I have financial/emotional reasons for not cooperating with the DA." I have no idea if that's the case here, but safe money is always on a DV victim to recant. This is an enormous problem that the judicial system is terrible at addressing. I could rant about this for a number of paragraphs but ya'll don't here me though you just want to dance...
This is often looked upon as reasonable outcome for both the prosecutor and the defendant. The prosecutor is happy because conviction = acceptable. Defense is happy because lower level offense mean less jail time hanging over the defendant should the screw up probation.

Your bigger and more athletic than most anyone who will be covering you just take it to the damn hole! it belongs in the hole! PUT IT IN THE HOLE!!!!
Irvin on the other hand is fun to watch play. He seems more confident every time he steps out on the floor and is flashing some drive to the basket that while kind of comical and awkward now will be impressive and unstoppable later.

This team has the ability to reach another final four. Of course that could be said about probably 3 teams in the B1G. We're going to live and die by our shooting percentage though. If the current numbers are sustainable over the long term then we're golden. This is of course factoring in the one inexplicable game where NOTHING goes in ever. If however we're not able to hit those gorgeous two point jumpers that Stauskas, GRIII, and Levert were just nailing against Wisconsin at a 60% clip we're in trouble.

My one and only care about whether or not Brandon forced this to happen is whether or not Hoke and Nussmeier will work well toghether. Regardless it was a business decision that was made for the benefit of the football program. It's tough to make those decisions especially becase coach Borges seems to be a well resprect and well liked guy. The nature of the time between hiring and firing was such a short period of time that it seems likely that Nussmeier was recruited and on board before the firing occured. If that's the case you had to think that Hoke was very aware of what was going to transpire, and at least tacitly condoned this.
|1 year 29 weeks ago||level 35 and it's all downhill||
I've played a number of different playthroughs on skyrim and found the game to be mostly a very enjoyable experience. Especially once my wife decide that skyrim was cool and wanted to start her own character. I've found it to be a mostly enjoyable experience that I can lose a couple hours to each week.
The game isn't without it's flaws though. Primarily, the games fundemental flaw comes down to character leveling. At about level 35 there are no challenging things to be done in skyrim. The highest level dungeon dwellers are put down effeciently with a few hacks with a weapon or a couple spells. Fighting dragons turns into hitting it with weapons and spells and then sucking down a couple healing potions every time the damn thing flies away because in the brief time it's on the ground it can't damage you enough to matter. Also you'll never run out of healing potions because there is essentially very little else you'll really want to spend your massive piles of gold on.
Overall the game gives you too much in the way of resources and does not have sinks that take away those resources at a pace that makes for any reasonable challenge. You get way too much gold, jewels, and loot every time you enter a dungeon area. There's then nothing of value exepct for the rare home or healing potions to buy and hell you'll find in a mid size dungeon probably a 5-7 healing potions of various strength any way. The same game decisions apply to crafting materials, and enchanting materials. You'll find so many of these items that it essentially makes leveling either of those skills a grind to see how fast you can smith 30 daggers at which point you can turn around sell those daggers and have more gold. They also took away degredation of armor and weapons which was a mechanic that constantly allowed players to improve important skills but also siphoned away at least a bit of the vast amounts of wealth you could accumulate.
I found that exploration of skyrim, it's hidden areas and quests to be the most satisfying aspect of the game because it ignores these broken mechanics and does provide some great hours of gameplay. If Bethesda makes another Elder Scrolls game I hope they take a hard look at the mechanics of levling. All that said I'll still pre order the game and probably enjoy myself immensly.

I bet we botch at least two exchanges with one of those being a turnover. I'm also guessing that we fail at blitz pickups at least twice. That being said I'm guessing our running game is nominally better to the tune of 140ish yards from running backs on the day. If there was ever a time to try to change the line though, this is the game to do it. Minnesota looks doubleplus ungood and we've had two weeks to get this straightened out.
|1 year 44 weeks ago||Blame the Media||
If you take a look at violent crime statistics http://www.bjs.gov/index.cfm?ty=pbdetail&iid=2221 It's pretty clear that we as a society really are moving forward. The issue is that death and destruction sell ads for media. People go to CNN more when there's a mass shooting in Chicago or bombers in Boston then they do when there's a report released that says; hey just FYI things are getting better. At some point confirmation bias takes over and things look pretty bleak. Thankfully, it's entirely inaccurate to say there's more violent crime today than say 30 years ago. I can't imagine it helps this kids parents with what they're going through, but we're heading the right direction.
|1 year 44 weeks ago||Maybe I Missed Something||
I'll wait till the UFR comes out, but I thought that Funchess was blocking decently when he found someone. I think the issue is that he's not finding the right guy, or in some cases a guy at all. I don't know that putting him into a slot solves that issue in any particular way. If you ask him to block on a run he'll either find a guy and handle him or not, and assuming not now your still looking at an unblocked linebacker (probably) or a nickel coming up to make a stop in run D. I guess it's mildly better than him facing a defensive end, but position switch in midseason seems kind of like a recipe to fail.

I mean regardless of how the defense schemes to stop us won't are superior athletes at some point just run over the opposition. Hart as the all time leading rusher for UM is a pretty darn favorable comparison. Our best case scenario here isn't one or the other emerging as in the Hart - Martin era it's having Green and Smith as slightly different but interchangable parts like Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams. That kind of tandem behind the moster offensive line we should have in place in another year... well let's just hoep for the best for both Green and Smith. I think each can find a place on this squad.

You clicked the link. It did its job. I don't have a lot of concern that hits like JC's will lead to ejections. It was a good football play within the rules and in the spirit of the game. I was just discussing this with some coworkers/troglodites and we realized there are 2 to the 63 power number of ways to fill out a bracket that's 9 quintillion plus possibilities.
ofcourse picking at random isn't a great strategy but we could then factor in the likelyhood that any particular seed will beat another seed. Someone earlier in the thread had a good breakdown but if you look over time a 1 seed has never lost to a 16 and its exceedingly rare that a 2 seed loses to a 15 though it does happen from time to time. Over the course of a number of these type of calculations. Which I assure you are mind numbing and tedious (what is the likelyhood a 1 seed beats a 14th seed? has it in fact ever happened that a 1 seed has played a 14th seed?) you should get some distribution of all the possible bracket combinations that shakes out into a bell curve if you plot the various combinations over their calculated percentage to win.
Even then a standard deviation from the best probability to win (which I think but have no emerpical evidence to support would be a strait lowest seed advances bracket) would be an astronmical number of selections the curve is likely VERY flat with the number of data points we have in combination with the very low probability that any one bracket is a winner we could have 100 trillion (or more) brackets within in one standard deviation from our mean best chance bracket.
from a purely mathmatical point of view you have a better chance of being struck by lighting while getting eaten by a shark that is currently winning the lottery.
That being said this isn't abotu the perfect bracket so much as it is the bear problem. The bear problem is simple two hikers see a bear one put on the running shoes while the other chortles in a worried sort of way telling his compatriot; "Fool, you can't out run a bear". The running shoe donning hiker replie coldly in a callow and calculating manner that he needn't out run the bear just the other hiker.
/best of luck though

Let's get a little less analytical and accurate and little more unreasonably optimistic based off a things like "I got a good feeling about this" or "things ar bound to turn around"
|4 years 18 weeks ago||Shocked I say||
I jumped on to take a look at news while I slack off on friday and I have to tell you there are some really contradictory pieces of info on this site. I read Brian's post and then scrolled down to watch the Spring practice video.
I was shocked (shocked I say) to see Michigan players without their trademark leather helmets; some call them caps. I thought a return to MANBALL was propelling this program back to the stone age and while I did notice that our uniforms are slowly starting to turn black and white, well the pants anyhow but its a start, and there MAY have been some hints of sepia tone to the film that was creeping in near the end (perhaps I'm imagining that), we still fielded a teamthat was practicing hard and seemed genuinly excited about it ala RVB and Denard sniping back and forth.
It's not the end of the world that we're heading back to MANBALL just the end of a good idea and an exciting to watch offense. We'll adapt and move on or we won't and Hoke will be fired. At least I won't have to change channels during our Defensive series to avoid throwing objects through the TV.

Why can't we just get a coach to come in and say: After 3 solid days of amazingly good practice during which no one so much as stubbed a toe we've determined we are going to be kind of a big deal this year. Our players picked up the offense in much the same way you'd expect a baby killer whale gets used to being wet. We've installed basically 90 percent of our offense and honestly I don't plan on worrying about the rest as I mentioned before i really think we're going to be kind of a big deal.
I'm nervous about this whole thing but we're only three days in, and will give this a shot... because its not like I have another option.

You can't help but cheer for these guys. They exceed expectations and there's no quit in them. I'm happy we're bringing this team back but more importantly I'm happy we're bringing people of this caliber and class back to the U of M for another great year of bball.

Right now all that could be done has been done. The writers are getting ready to decry Michigan's failure or else tell their readers they knew this team had it in them all along. The NCAA has pondered all the evidence. Michigan has presented its case. They don't matter. None of that makes one bit of difference.
What does count and what does matter is simple and wonderful, and its why we get up every saturday in fall with that mingled feeling of anticipation, hope, and dread. What counts is a group of football players, Michigan football players. Some are asleep right now, others won't find sleep till tomorrow evening when win or lose they won't be able to go on anymore.
This is football season. This is the best time of year. This is when its ok to scream at the top of your lungs for that touchdown that came out of nowhere. This is when its ok to put your head down and sulk in the corner when the first loss comes. In short this is what makes being here for another fall wonderful.
Brian, Thanks. You really seem to get that about Michigan football. Go Blue.
