"What (Michigan coaches) told me is that they're focusing on point guards right now, but if anything opens up, they'll definitely come back on and recruit me as hard as they were," said Towns

I was a spoiled kid. My dad got me a $8/hour job with a bar buddy who owned a fly by night construction company. I'd just finished my freshman year, so I was invincible, stupid and lazy. My coworkers were two 40-something career laborers with union cards. problem was, this wasn't a union job, so they were working for $5/hour. Those two guys taught me a lot.
We were tasked with a particularly miserable job, working down in a hole trying to scrape and shovel out mucky, thick dirt and pass it up in a bucket. I was convinced this was an illogical task that required a more clever solution. One of the guys put his hand down for me to grab and he yanked me out of the hole, and then proceeded to dress me down by simply saying, "there ain't no use in talkin about it. You need to get back in that hole and just DO THE JOB." But instead of letting me go back down, he did it himself, just to show me what a prima Donna I was being.
I think of it regularly and often.

I live and work in Downtown Chicago and I'm sick of the NFL draft before it's even started. So, I'm a little jaded right now about the boss of pro sports. That said, I've always thought Ohio North and Ohio South would be great names for the Browns and Bengals.

I knew there had to be a few. I think the MSU pipeline from BR has been pretty well established over, ok, 30 years, similar to Cass Tech and Wilcher for Michigan and Glenville and Ginn for OSU. Always a few exceptions to the rule in each case, but I think the exceptions are fewest when it comes BR and the stonewalling of Michigan.
Oh, and Waggle, you didn't really just come to the board today did you?

Aside from getting this commitment, I think the best part of this news is that the Fracassa-to-MSU pipeline seems to have gone dry and Brother Rice is now a school in play for Michigan. It's about time! Can anybody name any player from BR to come to Michigan and have any success in the last 40 years?

I stand. Thanks.
|3 weeks 16 hours ago||Comcast, Trammell||
I actually think that Comcast is more important because of the sheer humanity involved. 10s of millions of customers have to overpay for services delivered by the worst effing company in America. That's important.
As for Trammell, I too spent a lot of time in consternation over a different snub: losing the MVP award to George Bell in 1984. Granted, this was before advanced metrics, so the writers can be excused for only having the basic stats. But even with basics, Tram's offensive production was close enough to Bell's that, as a shortstop vs a left fielder, he should have gotten it. If the two had been traded/flipped teams at the beginning of the season, no question Toronto, not Detroit would have won the division because the latter would have been without a great shortstop while anybody can hold down left field.
Also, the Tigers won the damn division!

Don't get me wrong, I love Peppers and am totally stoked to see him go at it. However, guys like Peppers or Woodson come along once every 10-15 years. No question you build your scheme around such extraordinary talent, but what happens when that one piece is removed?
Am I being an alarmist?

To your last point (and I don't claim to know anything about basketball) you reminded me of Chris Webber and how shockingly quickly he could get the ball from below his waist to over the rim.

I forgot about that as most would, but that was clearly a missed call and if it had gone right I wouldn't have to listen to my partner, a Texas guy, remind me that Nebraska won, at the time, the mythical NC. Never mind that M got more first place votes between the coaches and writers. Nebraska won the coaches poll (UPI or USAT, can't remember) because TomOsbourne was retiring. M won the writers poll (AP). Split NC.

Before they started un-retiring jerseys. #1 goes to a great receiver. #2 goes to a great cornerback. Forget all the rest of it.
Oh, and get off my lawn.

Could he have named Stribling so many times to get a point across?
sounds like he's working really hard to challenge Channing. Which can only mean Channing's a big deal. Awesome to read.

But, I saw a lot of smoke --
...His awesome mom joining the staff
...The fact that he went to Stanford which would imply he's a good student and would be accepted (also his minority status and Michigan's diversity effort)
...The fact that he was looking for an Architecture degree, a postgrad program Stanford does not have but Michigan does.
Oh, and (Edit): he's on mgoblog's Depth Chart by Class! I should have started and ended with that!

Helpfulness is great. Is something like this heroic? Only if you put yourself in danger. Otherwise you're just being a decent human.

Guys, I know this is going to sound like I'm blowing my horn, sobeit. It's just such an uncanny coincidence I thought I had to share. Back in about 1981 when I was a student I was working for the Ann Arbor Inn (no longer in business) driving flight crews to and from Metro. I was returning empty one morning and just about at the exact same place as this accident -- Westbound near State Street -- a woman wiped out right in front of me, T-boned the median and, fortunately, slid to a stop.
I pulled over to help. I ended up moving her car so that it wasn't in traffic and then I gave her a ride into town. It's wierd how you take a moment to take in the situation and decide if you should help or not.

Why would a fraternity have insurance for damages caused by criminal vandalism committed by its members? Why would the fraternity be liable for those individual offenses?

I was pretty sure he played ST. as a freshmen and the mgoblog depth chart shows him as a redshirt. I could be wrong on that.

That's was the reason for the post. Tom Strobel was touted as some kind of stud and, recognizing that he is probably a fine, young, very large man, what happened?
