Bettencourt is T104 through 6 holes. Coach is helping the team though to T70 but we can't tell what his individual score is.
|3 days 10 hours ago||here's what's going to happen||
Bettencourt is going to shit the bed on the front nine tomorrow, but Harbaugh will do his magic. MB will be better on his back nine, and better in his second round than he was in his first. Coach has a way of making things like that happen.
Generally pairings are the luck of the draw, although big AT&T business partners will get preferential treatment somehow and big time celebrities (think Bill Murray or Jack Lemmon) tend to develop a relationship with a particular pro and do repeat performances over the years. I remember one year Tom Brady played in the same foursome with his dad which was cool.
Unless you're an invited guest of the sponsor, the entry fee for playing in a pro-Am can be gag-inducing. I would expect the AT&T, the Rose Bowl of Pro-Ams, would run over $20,000.
|3 days 11 hours ago||I get that||
It's not about raw # of players.
Still, he credits Rudock for all of his passing production without crediting any of his teammates for same. It's what I hate about fantasy football. And by teammates, I'm referring to all of them, not just the ones that catch passes. That o line did a phenomenal job of pass pro in 2015 but the machines treat them like bodies occupying uniforms.
|5 days 2 hours ago||53% of Michigan's offense returning?||
Obviously, the QB and in our case, Rudock's production carries more weight than the average position/player. But 53% returning on offense I don't quite get. To be specific, M loses Rudock, a platoon TE (Williams), the whole FB platoon (Kerridge/Houma) and Glasgow. Call it 3.5 starters, which is about 30% of 11. So the loss of 30% of the starters somehow carries the weight of 47% using Bill's factoring. Seems like a stretch.

She works for DHS/State Department in Passport Security. She's a smart, dedicated, responsible public servant who also happens to be a wonderful human being.
So, Fuck you.

Mike Hart and Drake Johnson, 3 stars. Kevin Grady, Derrick Green and Ty Isaac, high 4/5 stars.

I also read the trib regularly and would agree that Teddy is not a bad writer. I don't think he's particularly good either -- generally kind of anodyne. But I think newspaper guys tend to get lazy as they get older and establish a steady base of readers and job security.
I put Rick Telander in that category. When he worked for SI he was an outstanding columnist, a bit like Albom in that you felt like you knew the guy personally because he shared personal stories as part of his writing style. I think he got tired of the travel so he dropped SI and went full-time with the Sun Times in Chicago where he'd always lived and I think still does. The downside of that for him was it kind of put him in a rut and he's gotten bored and lazy. I can't remember the events, but he did a hatchet job on Rodriquez, basically just piggy backing on the Freep's coverage of Stretchgate without making any effort to check the facts.
I hope Teddy doesn't follow down the same path of complacence, boredom and hackery.
|1 week 4 days ago||Actually, yes||
Nobody had Harmon committing to Michigan... until he did.
|1 week 5 days ago||I agree it's dubious||
I agree it's dubious; just trying to have some fun with it. Still, he could know a reporter and is working with a tip that an huge announcement is coming out tonight, without actually knowing what it's about.
|1 week 5 days ago||based on all of his clues...||
I'm going with a major media (like ESPN or SI) blockbuster story that blows up recruiting violations at either OSU or MSU.
|1 week 6 days ago||Print edition||
I still buy the Sunday trib dead tree edition because my wife has never been able to get out of the habit of doing their puzzles. Neither of us spend any time actually reading the paper. It goes straight to recycling. Wasteful I know, and at $5, expensive too.
|1 week 6 days ago||Strange||
Crystal balls tell an interesting story about Swenson. Naturally, for two years he's 100% Michigan until he decommits. The he gets two to Wisconsin and one to NU. Then suddenly, a chorus swings to OU immediately proceeding his commitment.
Of the four teams, OU is the academic outlier, the least stringent in terms of acceptance. Swenson takes zero OVs until his last stop in Norman is described as Official.
Partridge's tells TVH "you have to hold up your end of the bargain both academically and athletically". All of this makes me wonder if the issue with Swenson was never that he wasn't good enough, but that he maybe didn't have the grades to go to M or UW or NU.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||who?||
You made me google Jessica Szohr. Having read her Wikipedia page, I still don't understand what she has to do with Michigan or any of this.
still, she's a leader and schwing best it appears.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||I Object||
As a "businessman", I object to the implication that unethical conduct is my default setting. I also object to the assumption that Harbaugh and staff are acting unethically.
This is all about the whether or not recruits are being communicated to honestly. We don't know and will never know the answer to that because the staff can't discuss it. But the OP, and Teddy Greenstein and a lot of others assume the staff is being dishonest, based on little more than the tweets of 18 year-olds.

Obviously. I'm just trying to establish the worst case scenario.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||are you sure?||
Are you sure he never visited, even unofficially?
|3 weeks 1 day ago||how much harm has this been?||
I get that at a minimum, the Michigan staff is guilty of creating some pretty bad optics for themselves and us, the fan base to apologize for. And, yeah, if you take Swenson's word on it, the staff handled it genuinely badly. But, what keeps sticking in my mind is, how much harm has this done to Swenson? If he wanted to play football in the big house on Saturdays, the staff was basically telling him that would never happen and he should go elsewhere. If playing was what he really wanted he should go find it. Telling him the truth was doing him a favor.
If getting a scholarship to a premiere Big Ten institution is his goal, well that's going to be satisfied by either Wisconsin or Northwestern. So, really, how sad is Swenson's story in the end?
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Thanks||
I did not know this because I don't really care much about the no fun league. Thanks also to mgo2017.
Really wish we could have it for college games.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Depth Chart Transfer?||
First off, congrats to Gant for getting his degree and looking forward. Always good to see.
Now, about that depth chart. After Gedeon there are zero players with meaningful snaps at LB, with the names Furbush and McCray displayed as projected starters. For Gant to decide to move on is kind of bizarre. If I'm not mistaken, he got more snaps at LB than the rest of the roster combined. I wonder if this means the light has gone on and/or health issues for Furbush and McCray have resolved. Just wow.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Full 22?||
How the hell does this guy get full-22 film? Is NFL F22 easier to access than NCAAF?
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Maybe another word?||
I agree that we are going to see a lot of starters depart and that will be sad. But I don't like the word "attrition" in this context. That's a negative and doesn't honor the four or five year athletes who've given it all up and, hopefully, graduate.
Attrition is more about leaving because there's somewhere else to go and play at the college level, or just stop playing or drop out of school.

|4 weeks 1 day ago||Not the pretzel bell||
They can call it the Pretzel Bell. But it won't be anything like what I experienced and loved in the 70s and 80s. It's just not possible.
Just a few examples: they served pitchers of beer, the best of which might have been, I don't know, Heineken or Lowenbrau. And, it had phone booths and maybe one 19" TV.
We're talking 30 years since it closed and 40 since its prime. I just think I will walk into this place next fall and think yeah, it's a contemporary college town sports bar.

Over the weekend I watched a repeat of David Feherty's Golf Channel interview show with Nick Saban. I think the interview took place last summer, before August camp.
Feherty is quite entertaining, even if you're not into golf. And he's a great interviewer. The Saban episode is pretty good -- I recommend it to anyone reading this topic.
I think Nick was trying really hard to make Nick look like a nice guy.
