I'm also wondering: are there cowbellers at any other UM sporting events? Does anyone know?
|7 hours 49 min ago||this is awesome||
This could be the best OT material in the last year. Well done, OP and so many others chiming in. Being an '80s graduate, and remembering expert cowbell from that era, I'm wondering if someone before my time can report on the existence of cowbell and maybe as a community we could pinpoint the genesis. Don? Anyone?

No, actually TRILLIONS of creatures living on this earth die in every minute of every day. Old shit dies and new shit develops living mitochondria and steps in to replace the dead. that's life.

Until the OL can perform better than average, Michigan will not have made it "all the way back". When was the last good Michigan OL? 2000 maybe?

If you're going to use the term "trump", please don't capitalize it unnecessarily. It scares me every time.
|1 week 2 days ago||At least once per week||
At least that's what I'm aiming for. I found a practice facility about 40 minutes from my house that has heated tees with a sheltering wall to the north. Plus they have simulator bays indoors that I'll use once in a while to check on my ball flight and distance.
Wait, you are talking about our offseason golf practice, right?

Big house patrons should threaten officials with physical harm more often.

Had to be one of those ridiculous ND wins.
|4 weeks 3 days ago||Flash?||
Baffling to me that our excellent university has an official website conveying news and information about its athletic department that uses long ago outdated software. I guess budgets are tight everywhere these days.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||uh-uh||
Worst pick six in history has to be Gardner to an ND lineman in the end zone.

I'm sorry I haven't told you I love you often enough, DGD.

I would hope that any parent helping their child select a college -- athlete or not -- would help organize his/her search similar to this method. I don't think most teenagers are capable emotionally, or have the judgmental maturity, to make this decision on their own. How many kids have you known who went to the college where their best buddy or worse, girlfriend/boyfriend was attending? It's very easy to pick a school for the wrong reasons and not focus on the right reasons at all.

This is getting real, no?

I'm not done with the piece and for the first time in my experience, I've interrupted my own reading because I'm laughing so hard I have to double back to the poster and say thanks for the link. Now, back to reading. If I can recompose myself. Treacly!

Anybody remember one of mgoblogs intrepid reporters (I think it was Ace) saying when he had press credentials with UM having to bite his tongue or risk getting thrown out of the press box?
This guy Lesmerises takes the cake. He and Bill Landis, the guy on the right, both appear to be wearing the same badges -- press box credentials. I think Landis is stepping off camera because he doesn't want to be associated with Lesmerises conduct. They're colleagues at cleveland.com, because apparently, only one credentialled reporter from Cleveland isn't enough to cover OSU football. As recently as last year, Lesmerises was an AP Voter. Think about that!
Hey, I know this is what OSU football is all about. Everybody drinks the koolaid or else, Herbstreit. And, yeah, UM's got guys on the payroll in the form of Brandstatter and Dierdorf and Ufer long before them. But these Cleveland guys are Journalists, no?

Taking the 2016 team over 1997 is chalk. The one position I would quarrel with is QB, where I think Griese's poise and leadership were essential to that undefeated year.
WRs in 16 are way, way better, in part because Streets played most of the year with broken fingers IIRC on both hands and dropped a lot of balls as a result. But, the fact remained, the starter said a lot about what they had in the cupboard.
RBs this year are way, way better and again because Chris Howard was banged up most of the year, opening the door for Thomas.
And yeah, that 97 OL -- in fact all the OLs through 2003 were all better than what we've seen for the last 10 years.

The non-coaching football staff and the salaries of the football coaches not named Harbaugh have bloated dramatically with Harbaugh's arrival under Hackett's watch. That's not on Brandon. That's about Hackett, the University and its donors wanting a fucking dominant football team. And I'm all for it. But don't blame Brandon unless you want to give him credit for creating a tire fire that had to be extinguished and cleaned up.
|6 weeks 2 days ago||amazing||
Amazing somebody can still be that angry, consumed with rage, how many hours or days after the game was over? Was that recorded on Sunday or Monday? Really, how can you stay that mad for that long over a effing football game?
It boggles my mind.
And, what does Josh think should be done about it? Clean house? Play the second string?

When you say "listed as", what list are you referring to? If it's a Michigan Football depth chart, could you share it with us? That'd be great, thanks.
|6 weeks 2 days ago||No argument||
about defenses faced so far. In fact, I've spent this week looking at the defenses M faces in the next five weeks because at this point, hard to see any opponents offenses scoring beyond 15-20 points. Which actually means that a vintage Lloyd Carr/Ferentz-ish offense is probably sufficient and the one we're looking at this year seems better than any of theirs, save for maybe 2000 and 2003.
|6 weeks 2 days ago||1903||
The reason I qualified with "in the modern era". they scored 600-something in 1903.
It is kind of shocking what THIS team has done offensively. SOS caveats of course, but somebody else pointed out that M has handed every opponent on the schedule so far its worst loss of the season.
|6 weeks 2 days ago||Best scoring offense in the modern era?||
It's very possible that M breaks the modern era season scoring record set at 460 in 2003. They only need 120 more points to do it. Think about that: one of the best M defenses in history is paired with what will be, at least nominally, a historically productive offense as well.

Sorry but how do you get the wind both halves? Don't you play one half to the north and the second to the south? Or does the wind shift 180 at halftime?

Seth, I love this shit, but your clips aren't in the order (I think) you intended, which make it more confusing than it needs to be.
Edit: I guess I have to recant this because after a refresh, it's all in order. Stupid IPad, I guess.

Where's the threat?
|6 weeks 3 days ago||fans vs. team||
Herein lies the difference between the typical fan and his well-disciplined favorite team. Harbaugh's been saying for 14 months now that his team prepares for every opponent with the same mentality. Typical fans see it differently and are freighted with years-worth of emotional baggage. I got so sick and tired of listening to Hoke patronize these people with Rivalry talk.
And I'm betting Meyer treats the rivalry with Michigan the same way even in the face of fans that are exponentially more rabid than those of us here.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||Agreed, and I'll add||
I grew up in Oakland County and have spent all of my life after graduation in Chicago area.
Recently in Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta (upscale suburb) I was really impressed by how integrated it was compared to here. Just one man's anecdote.
