Having captains completely defeated is a bad thing.
|2 days 2 hours ago||Benda and Dalimonte||
Nobody's commented on this so I have to.
Q: Jim are there any other long term injuries (besides Mone)?
A: Benda and Dalimonte.
Two walk-ons. A 223 lb linebacker and a 5-9 DB. Two guys who we know and JH knows and all the people in the room know will never see a meaningful snap in a winged helmet.
So, what is he doing here? Those are the only player names he volunteered in the entire presser. Is he being serious, or funny? I laughed out loud. He threw out the same kind of thing a couple weeks ago with Hewlett and Wrobleski. Same thing. Two undoubtedly great kids that he cares about, but we all know are irrelevant to the press corps.
My point is Harbaugh is a benevolent genius, using a platform which he completely disdains to call out a few kids who's names will never be heard from again. And to throw a useless bone to the corps to chew on.
|2 days 12 hours ago||But, it's not really "game week" yet||
Since the game is next Thursday, game week technically should not start until tomorrow. This would be like starting week 2 game week and doing a game 1 postgame presser before playing game 1.
I was thinking about how practice and meetings would be scheduled today and tomorrow. If they want to simulate as accurately as possible a "game week", tomorrow would be like a Sunday -- they would rest and/or do a light workout and spend a lot of time with film.
Likewise, if today is like Saturday -- game day -- they would have a full, tough scrimmage today with a lot of running around and complete exhaustion.
OMG, why can't I think about anything else!

That kid has got some burst in those legs.
|1 week 3 days ago||Where is mike McCray?||
McCray is one of those bafflingly yet to be relevant, superb athletic specimen. Throw in Dymonte and Shallman too. Is the light not going on?

Some poobah in the US Golf Association once said of the U.S. open course setup, "we don't intend to punish the best golfers in the world. We intend to identify them."
Harbaugh stacking the team up in an old, non-AC dorm will go a long way toward identifying those who stay...
... And those who know they're never going to play or aren't sure they want to be on a football team anymore are gonna say screw this bullshit... and won't stay.
Gotta believe this culture explains the departure of Samuelson and Miller -- and no offense or discredit is made to either of those guys -- they made good choices for themselves.
|1 week 4 days ago||Thanks||
Appreciate the chart work, thanks. Especially like the full schedule vs Power 5 comparison. As for analysis and construction, stay in school for a couple more years and keep up the studies and practices.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Eh||
As excited as I was to see Mone mature into an every down player, I don't think there's a huge drop off in the personnel on the interior. We're still looking at Glasgow, Henry, Hurst, Godin, Pallante and it's nice to know all but the last of those has experience. I think the interior will be fine, and next year, with all of them returning, Katy bar the door!

I've liked Wyatt from the day he committed. I just thought he could do so many things with that frame. But I honestly did not expect him to stick at RB. We shall see. Such a crowded position. And with Isaac, you basically have two guys with the same dimensions.

I was a student in the early 80s and was able to carry in a 12-pack on my shoulder every Saturday. The middle aged alums made a habit of carrying in too. My impression, of the students that drink now, is that they get obliterated before they enter the gates. Sure we drank a few before the game, but if we wanted to get drunk at least we could pace ourselves to make it through four quarters without falling down.
So, I guess I would say no, don't sell it in the stadium but also go back to letting people carry in.

Because my sister had to marry a complete asshole on that day.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||"Wrobleski and Hewlett"||
Could be the funniest non-answer he's made yet.

Boy do I like this guy Rudock. He acts like he's been there before.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Lots of noise||
HARBAUGH's going to make it hard for us to keep any semblance of an unofficial depth chart. Not a clear distinction between his FBs, flex TEs and inline TEs, and there are a dozen guys who kinda sorta fill those roles. Winovich and Poggi are wild cards, but so are K. Hill, Shallman and even Pallante. Add to them the "incumbents": Williams, Butt, Kerridge and Houma, and then throw in Bunting and Wheatley.
Like everything else about this team, we just won't know until we see it.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||"R"||
It's Navin R Johnson, to be precise, and he has a Special Purpose!
|3 weeks 4 days ago||nary a man||
No returning players were named even All Conference "honorable mention" last year. Butt seems like the only possibility to make this ESPN list.
But the important lists are the ones in December -- All Conference and All American. I think Butt, G.Glasgow, Lewis, Morgan and Bolden have a shot for All Conference. It's also plausible that one of the 5th year transfers might make it there.
|4 weeks 3 days ago||correct||
That's why I just listed them all in order of position with no editorial. Anybody spending any time at all on this site and others knows who've contributed and who haven't out of that group.
|4 weeks 3 days ago||This can only mean a lot of firm handshakes next spring...||
Either JH is lying, which I doubt, or he's expecting to non-renew a lot of 5th year guys next Spring, given the 20+ class he's building.
From the Depth Chart by Class, there are 15 of these coming up:
D. Johnson, Darboh, Chesson, Magnusen, Kalis, Braden, Bars, Godin, Henry, R. Glasgow (assuming scholarship), Wormley, Strobel, Gant, Richardson, Clark
(Hoke deserves credit for retention of players, but should also be dinged for failure to develop. About half of those guys won't be starters this year and probably not next year either.)
I was expecting to see omissions in the Fall Roster, but apparently not. BTW, anybody know when that roster first gets published -- Media Day maybe?
|4 weeks 4 days ago||Howard/21 No!||
If you retire 21, then why not 2? I don't think either should be. Those, and maybe #1 and #77 are the modern-era legends jerseys and should be assigned to players worthy of them and appropriate to them. I tend to agree with Braylon on this distinction... and obviously, #4 should be added as well!

I feel for the guy and the tough decision he had to make. May he score a touchdown!
|5 weeks 2 days ago||Lake Michigan||
The lake is very high this year so beaches tend to be a little more confined than in years past. I'll just throw out my own local knowledge of the New Buffalo area... Rent a house in Grand Beach or Union Pier/Lakeside. Prices vary based on proximity to the lake. You can get a reasonable rate 1/4 to 1/2 mile from the beach but definitely stay on the lake side of Red Arrow Hwy/12.
|5 weeks 4 days ago||about Forbes||
I've worked for over 30 years in Advertising Media -- Strategic Planning, Negotiation, buying, etc. and have a lot of experience with Forbes properties. (That experience includes being entertained on the Boeing 727 named "Capitalist Tool", sailing on the yacht, visiting the museum in NYC, attending parties, etc.)
Forbes Magazine and its companion website are not the most upstanding in the industry. In fact, in the early days of digital advertising when traffic monitoring was basically one-dimensional, Forbes was paying people to click on ads. That's right, using a bank of computers in some third world country, they were fraudulently representing that Forbes readers were engaging with Forbes advertisers.
Also, as a reader, I don't ever recall an article that stuck with me.
All I'm saying.
|5 weeks 6 days ago||The silverdome||
Basically a utility shed with 80,000 seats and AstroTurf. Times have changed. My dad transferred his lions season tickets from Tiger Stadium. I remember reading in the game day program, first season, that the silverdome was completed much more cost efficiently than other contemporary stadiums, most notably the Superdome. Pontiac was basically bragging about being cheap, which would not be a positive attribute now. No wonder the lions only used it for 27 years.

I have bad plantar fasciaitis and I believe it was triggered late last summer by a number of trips to the beach (New Buffalo). Yzerman, you must have good strong arches, otherwise the instability of the sand surface puts a lot of stress on the fascia. Just saying to flat-footed people like me, don't go barefooted on sand.

MM/Harrelson were so damn good together. This screenplay leaves me confused and bored. Watched the first episode twice, which was customary last year. Watched the second episode and just kind of gave up. Why do directors have to make it so hard to follow a plot?
|7 weeks 6 days ago||Good idea||
I didn't use a driver for the first 10 years I played and worked my way into the low teens handicap because of it. Admittedly, drivers got a lot more forgiving at some point which made the graduation easier.
Groove your irons first, then move up.
|7 weeks 6 days ago||Play!||
This is something I guess I just don't appreciate about being A Head pro, that you can't play a round at least once a week. Or maybe it's that you don't want to play when the not particularly attractive opportunities arise, I..e, with an annoying club member or current student. I feel for you.
My best was a 79 at Cantigny, Wheaton, IL. Don't remember which tees.
Shoutout to the Pro that I'm currently hooked up with (golf, you perverts), Steve Dell at Whittaker Woods in New Buffalo. It's a great track, run to be respectful of golf and fun.

No, concussions are bad and playing a kid who may have just had one is unacceptable. hoke is certainly responsible and to blame for the post-concussion snap, but it was not a conscious decision. Not having enough adults on the sideline was why every event in that series took place and that lack was a conscious decision of a head coach putting together a program badly.
