I'm sorry, but the use of one stat to shit on Burke (which he does literally every time this comes up) bothers me.
|20 weeks 21 hours ago||You actually just strawmaned||
You actually just strawmaned again.
I did not say it was over for KCP. I said he has been bad and getting no playing time. Once again, you manipulated my argument to say "It's over for him".
My argument is that outside of win shares (which are for the most part, not good), Burke has been better, and based on potential (which I personally see a lot of in Burke and virtually none of in KCP), Burke will be better. He is better in PER, 3 point percentage, assists, and the eye test.
Again, this is what you do though. Anytime the Pistons come up you shit on Burke and defend KCP and the Pistons until the other person stops posting. Breaking news: The Pistons sucka and KCP had a bad year. Keep throwing win shares around all you want, you were pretty much wrong dude.
This is what you do though. You tear down other people's arguments by saying things they didn't say and throw win shares out there, talk about how much NBA you watch and declare yourself the winner. You are too arrogant and closed minded about this topic to even discuss it anymore.
|20 weeks 21 hours ago||Dude you did it again. Used 1||
Dude you did it again. Used 1 stat. Win shares. That's all you have. And win shares isn't that good.
What about PER? Burke wins. 3 point percentage? Burke wins. I could go on and on.
But there's no point in arguing with you. All you do is shit on Burke and defend the Pistons. That's your thing on mgoblog. I get it.
|20 weeks 22 hours ago||Please stop throwing around||
Please stop throwing around Win Shares like it's some magical stat from heaven. It's not.
Offensive win shares is pretty good, but defensive win shares is crap. Judging a player's defensive value by how many points they allow is highly dependent on the players around them, which for Burke, are crap. Give Burke KCP's teammates (ex. Andre Drummond) and his defensive win share rating would skyrocket. A stat heavily based on your teammates is pretty much crap. It's like the Pitcher Win in baseball. +/- in hockey. Your teammates can ruin in/ save it for you. Both crappy stats, as is defensive win shares.
If you think KCP's defense makes him a better play than Burke, great. But don't throw Win Shares around like that "proves it" or anything.
|20 weeks 23 hours ago||Ignoring the fact that the||
Ignoring the fact that the "SUX/GOAT" is a strawman, what do you expect people to talk about?
Dumars has been bad. No getting around that. Haven't won over 40% of their games in the last 5 years. Charlie V. Ben Gordon. Josh Smith. Mistake after mistake. For what I've heard he's a good guy, but man, he's been a pitiful GM. He had to go.
KCP has also been bad. Very bad. He was supposed to be a nice 3 point shooter and he's shot 31% (which is lower than Burke FWIW). We now have a full season of sample. 31% is very bad. If he was so good or his defense was so "game changing" he'd play more than 13 minutes a game (including single digits on a lot of nights). Hell, the season is LOST, nothing to play for, and he still can't get minutes on this garbage team.
Burke has not been all that great, but he has not been nearly as bad as you make it seem sometimes. Are his win shares high? No, but they aren't going to be. The offense around him is bad and the defense is even worse. That hurts his win shares. Defense win shares is calculated based on points allowed while on the court. It's like +/- in hockey. It's dependent on others and thus, pretty much crap. Using one stat to judge a player is not smart, in any sport. Especially defensive win shares. Burke is still a Top 5 rookie in the league and he'll put up better numbers when he has a real team around him, because that's how it works.

Is that why Stauskas was unanimously voted to the All-B1G team and player of the year by the coaches?
Tim Miles was absoutely deserving of this award and just because Beilein didn't win both doesn't mean there's some giant conspiracy against Michigan. Almost every coach talks about how much they respect Beilein before and sometime after the games.
The vote may very well have been 7-5 with Beliein himself voting for Tim Miles (as his interview would suggest).

|24 weeks 4 days ago||This is correct. Doug Fister||
This is correct.
Doug Fister will actually make LESS than Rick Porcello this year, which means if this trade was about saving money, Rick would have been the better option to dump.
Dombrowski felt the need to trade a starter to get Smyly into the rotation. He wasn't trading Verlander or Scherzer, so it was down to Porcello or Fister.
Porcello wasn't going to get him anything he wanted (although he should, he's underrated), so he shopped Fister. He offered around looking for only a SP, he had his list, and the only one he could get was Robbie Ray.
Was this a good trade on paper? No way. Fister is also underrated and should be worth more than a utility man, a LOOGY and a prospect not too many people are that high on, but either Dombrowski felt this was a good deal (he loves him some Robbie Ray) or he felt this was the best return he could get for either Porcello or Fister (which would probably not be true if he did not limit himself to only getting a SP in return).
I really like Dombrowski, but unless Robbie Ray turns out to be a stud or Fister starts to suck (which I don't think this injury has any indications of), then this is not one of his better moves.

One of two things would have to happen:
1) Austin Hatch gets some other type of scholarship (a la Ben Cronin, where he gets to go to school, part of the team but he doesn't count)

Since it seems Horford wants to come back, 1 seems more likely.
None of this matters because at least 1 of our players will go to the NBA. All 3 are not coming back.

First off, attendance has been sweet this year, for almost all non-cupcake games (it's not like every seat was filled for the non-students for Creampuff State either).
Second off, you can make the size of the student section vary. We have to "claim" our tickets now anyways. You can only claim and no-show so many times before you can't get tickets anymore. Anyway, on a game where less students claim their ticket, they can open up the leftover seats to the general public.
We get the student section size that they can fill for the game, and Brandon gets to fill the leftover seats with others. In theory, very few empty seats.

Both general admission and HAIL are total failures.
Hit the nail on the head with HAIL. A free t-shirt ain't doing jack shit to get me to go to a women's basketball game. Sorry. I still think the only reward that would get me to care about HAIL is either a discount on future tickets (fat chance) or priority seating for the bigger games.
General Admission was a disaster too. When I went to one of the games, me and some buddies showed up early enough to get row 20, but we sat down in row 60 because we liked those seats better. We were forced to move down or we got kicked out.
Or the time they held ropes for the Notre Dame game to make sure every damn person got a certain seat. It took forever and a "Fuck Dave Brandon" chant even broke out.
By the end of the season, I just stopped caring and showed up ~5-10 min before kickoff, not because I don't care (please don't accuse me of that), but because the system was so terrible I'd rather show up late, not deal with the lines (as much, that is) and get a higher seat (which I actually prefer). The system was supposed to make me show up early. I did the opposite.
Good job, good effort.

I don't anticipate Stuaskas being shut down becoming a regular thing. If it does, then I will start to worry. It didn't work. It wasn't ever going to work. The Pistons are a middle of the pack team at best. That's not how to win in the NBA. Agree with this. We still have a good team right now and this season isn't close to over.
That being said, I also agree with OP in that I thought about this the other day. We're gonna have a LOT of talent next year. And if McGary comes back? Damn. That team will absolutely compete for the B1G title. Plus factoring in the losses for MSU (pretty much their whole team) and OSU (Craft, who will have completed his 19th and final year of eligibility), they might be the frontrunner to win it next year.

In that scenario, yes they'd have to win 2 to get in probably. 9 wins is assuming we lose ALL those games he listed in the second and third groups and then 1 in the top one. I don't see it.

They probably win 5 win the first group you have listed.
Yes, the second group is tough, but 3 of them are at home, where we are very hard to beat. All four of those Michigan will have a decent chance to win. Writing all 4 of them off as losses is extremely pessimistic. I bet they win two there.
I do agree though, that the last group is death. I would be thrilled if we win one of those.
Barring injuries, the team quitting/giving up or something, or some freak stretch of luck where we shoot terrible or opponents shoot the lights out, this team is gonna be fine.
I really don't see why people are scared of getting to 9 B1G wins.

No I don't see us winning @wisco or @MSU but we should take one at home. Road games are tough for everyone, not just us, and we play well at home. I could see this team winning 5 more of the home games and then stealing 1 or 2 more on the road.
11 wins seems most likely to me.

Not sure where all the concern for getting 5 more wins is coming from.
They've got Iowa, Purdue, Nebraska, Wisconsin, MSU, Minnesota and IU left at home. 5 wins on home games ALONE seems very possible.

Not sure the number of "Pro-Borges" people is very high, but I'm sure there was a faction that certainly does/did exist. There was a lot more excitement about his firing than people second guessing, even if they are slowly coming out now.
Not really sure what their point is either. I suppose if Borges goes to ND and succeeds, there could be quite a bit of "I TOLD YOU SO" going on, but I think even if one thought he was a good coordinator, they had to see a change was needed.
Plus, we got Nuss, who, in my opinion, has just as good of a resume (better, really) and seems to be a better fit with Hoke's idea of his "Michigan offense". Additionally, he can recruit.
I wish Borges well, and I do not blame him for everything, but out of all the questionable things to debate when it comes to Michigan, I'm not sure how this is becoming one of the bigger ones. Dumping him for Nuss seems like a slam dunk move.
|32 weeks 2 days ago||Yeah I don't get it||
Yeah I don't get it either.
During the season if you thought Borges was smart, you were stupid.
Now that he's been fired, if you DON'T think he's smart, you are stupid.
People can look at a few individual games, but if you look at his whole body of work, I'm not sure where this is all coming from. Our offense, for the most part, was a disaster.
But hey, if all those games under 200 yards were good enough for some people, so be it.
|32 weeks 2 days ago||As offensive coordinator, it||
As offensive coordinator, it is his job to put the offense in the best position possible to gain yards and score points. It is also his job to help coach players to approach their full potential (which should be high, given our recruting classes).
Not only did our talented players not live up to their potential, but he did not do a great job putting them in positions to succeed, thus resulting in negative rushing yards.
I adamantly believe that there are better coordinators than Borges who would have done a beter job with this (and thus, you know, actually produced positive rushing yards).

Damn. Reading this thread, you'd think firing Borges was a mistake.
Did he deserve ALL the blame? Of course not. But come on. He is NOT a good offensive coordinator. The more he installed his "system" the worse we got. Denard put up better offensive numbers than Gardner running his "system" did just by being shoelace and bailing his butt out with giant runs.
Hope he lands on his feet (and Notre Dame is a pretty good landing spot) but come on people. We're gonna be better off without him.

I mean, it's possible, but we'd have to make some serious improvements. Even if we do get to their level, again, we have to play them both on the road. Under Hoke, we have not done well on the road.
It's probably a bit premature for all this, but honeslty, if we win one of those games next year, I'll be thrilled.

I just hope we look like a better team next year. 9 wins is very much a possibility on that schedule. Then the schedule gets lighter in 2015 so if things get going in the right direction again, 2 years from now could be very fun.

I'd love to be wrong. Nothing would please me more than Morris showing up, earning the job over Gardner and then leading Michigan to 3 National Titles his sophomore, junior and senior years.
Back to what I'm trying to say here: If Morris was an upgrade over Gardner, they would have played him this year. Even though Borges was awful and the O-Line was not good, somehow the logical solution to everything was "put in Morris". Gardner was not the problem, and I believe the people that thought he was will learn that rather quickly against Kansas State Saturday.
If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. It wouldn't be the first time on here and I'd rather win than "be right". Always.

"If roles were reversed, and KCP were a Michigan player who the Pistons passed on, you'd be all about him, talking about how horrible Burke's shooting percentage has been."
This is definitely true (I can't be completely innocent either, Burke is still my avatar). This board is never gonna forgive Dumars for this move. Ever. Hell, a lot of people still haven't gotten over Darko.
Only thing more about this I'll say is, I think Burke and KCP need some more time before we declare a "winner" or something. I bet Burke's shooting percentage ends up higher than what it is now, and I don't think his defense is going to be as bad as metrics say either (I could be biased there). People did say Burke was gonna need some time to adjust to the NBA level. We'll see where Burke ends up at the end. I still think he's gonna be really good. But who knows. The way the Pistons are constructed, KCP is probably gonna end up being a decent pick though.

Well yeah. Knight is not good.
Still, we'll see how much better Jennings is than Burke once he gets settled in. I bet his shooting percentage ends up higher than it is now. Plus, he is on the Jazz. Put some talent around him, he may get better yet.
I understand the KCP pick if they thought they were getting Jennings. But I still can't help but wonder if they had gone with Burke what else they could have done instead of what they did.

Fair, perhaps KCP's defense is underrated.
But if we could redraft now I'll still take Burke. 20ish games isn't a great enough sample yet. I still think Burke would have been the better choice there.
Also, if we're on WS/48, Josh Smith's is almost the same as Burke's. Can we fire Dumars for that instead? Josh Smith is incredibly overrated.

Letter to Dave Brandon? Won't do anything. Probably won't even read it. Don't go to the game? Won't make a difference. I already bought the ticket and that's all Brandon cares about.
I feel bad if the players think it is directed at them but:
1) They are pretty smart. They know it is mostly at the coaches.
2) They probably don't like getting thrown under the bus. I guarantee you hearing "playcalling is fine, we just have to execute" makes them feel worse than fans booing.
3) They can take it. They are young (my age), but they play football. A couple of boos aren't going to hurt them. They probably get tweets that hurt more than booing fans do. Hell, the boos might even fire them up. Some of them probably use it as motivation. Great.
Once again, ALL of my frustrations are at the coaches. I pay money to go see good football. They get paid money to coach that good football. If they don't do that job, they hear it. It's the same at every school.
