this is so awesome. I just…

this is so awesome. I just hope someday I can be one of the people doing researching on the amazing data James Webb collects. Only 2+ years away from that hopefully...

wow colossally bad time…

wow colossally bad time management for Cincy. they're just bleeding clock

Have you read The Dark…

Have you read The Dark Forest? (or the Three Body Trilogy). I immediately thought about those books when I saw your message about METI. This is a very interesting topic since it's quite likely that if another technological civilization exists, they are orders of magnitude more advanced than we are

I'm in a similar boat

I'll be in Cancun. I was planning on watching a torrent of the game the next day or so. Does anyone have any idea how to find a torrent without seeing the result first?

To put in proper context

Here was the email from Jennifer Taylor to Elton Brand that prompted his response. The entitlement of Duke students makes me gag.

Subject: Leaving Duke

I graduated from Duke last May and just wanted to express my disgust for your decision to leave the Duke program after only two years. As an alum, not only do I hold the school in high regard, but the basketball program as well, especially since both have deservedly garnered such a great deal of respect for their accomplishments.

As part of our basketball program, you represent Duke as a whole. We are first and foremost an academic school, you clearly did not belong at Duke in the first place if this was the extent of your commitment to Duke and a college education in general. You have not only insulted the current students who are putting in four years at a school they love, but also the thousands of alumni who have realized the value of a Duke education and what an honor and privilege it was to be there for four years.

If you do not realize the opportunity you has infront of you to play for Coach K and at the same time attain a Duke diploma, then that is certainly your loss. I just wish that you has spared us the notion that you were continuing in the tradition of being a Duke student-athlete, in emphasizing excellence in both academics and athletics. You will not be considered part of the Duke family, in my mind as well as many others. You have by no means proved yourself worthy of that title.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Taylor

This is a tremendous post.

I would upvote you if I had the privilege. Pretty much sums up my sentiments.

Angry Borges

From these pressers I get the feeling that Al Borges resents this blog big time. I'm sure he's aware of the site and has superficially looked at it. Whenever Heiko asks a question, I bet Borges is thinking: "Oh boy, here comes a question from another one of those bloggers that thinks he knows more about football Xs and Os than me even though he's never played or coached a down of college footballl in his life."

(Sorry Heiko if I'm wrong there about your football background)

I am watching from

my suite at the Palazzo.. Can't find the HD feed but nice to watch from bed

Michigan clearly "outchancing" TSIO in 1st per announcers

Not sure if this is a made up word or an actual hockey term.

hah i was wondering

if someone was going to jump on that typo. well done sir. i salute you!

Best thing to do is get the

Subscription to the mag on Amazon. It's only like 13 bucks. Then you can activate ESPN Insider a week hater for free.

He's also a...

lefty. Lefty kickers always seem a tad unstable*

*I am a lefty myself so it's ok for me to rip on one of my own "kind."

Is that Nick Canepa or...

Bill Platschke? God that is awful, awful writing.

Stopping Brandon before it's too late

Does anyone know Brandons email address so I can send a desperate plea to hire anyone besides Brady Hoke?

Injuries

I watched Mike Martin warm up pretty hard before the game but I didn't see him on the field during the game. He looked pretty good in warmups and his body language seemed to indicate he would play. Anyone have any info on this? Mouton on the other hand looked a bit tentative going through drills.

I was in the south endzone with Michigan fans

The Purdue fans in that area took off during halftime. It really started pouring during the 2nd quarter. The Purdue student section in the Northeast corner was the only part of the stadium that was really filled up and they stuck around for most of the game. Can't really blame (too much) most Purdue alumni fans for leaving early. The team is missing so many players due to injury that their offense is a complete joke.

One other thing I wanted to say is that it kind of sucked that most of the action in the game went the other direction. We got to see Vincent Smith's touchdown and James Rogers interception, but that was pretty much it.

I'll also add that I heard some "Fire DickRod" jackasses during the turnover frenzy in the 2nd half, but mostly people were pretty positive. Go Blue!

It's drizzling already

I'm in the stadium. Feels like a lot more rain coming

a hypothetical +1 to you sir

since i am not able to give you the real +1...

thanks tk47

I would give you plus a million points if i had the privilege to vote. you said pretty much exactly what I came on this forum to say. cowherd is a  complete and utter toolbag.

This is why page 2 is utterly unreadable now

These guys are so unfunny it makes me laugh, if that makes sense.

perhaps i am being too sensitive but

i guess it's hard for me to laugh at that line having met a lot of woman who were sexually exploited and abused as children(schoolgirls) in japan.  it's easy for us to laugh at brian's joke until we actually see there is too much truth behind it.

anyway if you want to neg me for trying to hijack the thread, go ahead.

i still love brian(no homo) and this blog regardless. go blue!

so are we making fun of the fact

that schoolgirls in japan are sexually exploited? if so, i'm a bit disgusted. maybe I'm reading this wrong. not to get all serious or anything, but it's actually a big problem in japan of high school and younger age girls being molested and exploited by older man....

getting pulled over with no id

The cops can look up your driver license info with your birth date and address. I was just pulled over recently without my license and they did just that. Fortunately that was enough to convince them I had a valid driver's license and they didn't require a picture id to confirm my identity. I guess you could conceivably use someone else's birthday and address to get out of a ticket. That'd be pretty f-ed up though.

Anyway, probably the cops looked up his info and then confirmed his identity with the photo from google images. That is all.

if you have directv

then you will able to watch the game on espnu. directv recently moved espn classic to an upper tier (and changed the channel to the 600s). now espnu (chan 208) is right between espn and espn2.

job of a nose tackle...

is not to make tackles. can't measure how good of a game a nose tackle had by how many tackles he made.

Eagles Fan and Michigan fan This was best possible scenario for me. I'm really excited to see how Graham will fit in with Eagles. Looks like he will at the least see time on 3rd downs. Eagles rotate a lot of defensive ends throughout the game so there's no doubt he will see a lot of time. Eagles are stocking up Wolverines. Here's to the Eagles grabbing Donovan Warren late..
Tito's Tacos in Culver City is also a must
seconded The never ending garlic bread balls that they bring you at C&O before and during your mail are definitely worth the trip. they are so addictive.
I'm really looking forward to seeing Darius Morris get extended playing time. The one thing the best teams in the country all seem to have in common is a guy who can slash and be a one man fast break. He can be that guy for Michigan next year. Sure, Manny Harris does it, but he's not a 1. His decision-making with the ball has been atrocious this year. Morris has shown flashes this year where he finds guys on the break for easy finishes. Whenever Manny is on a run out, he almost always takes the shot instead of dishing. Usually the right decision, but this team has such a hard time scoring that it has to maximize every single fast break opportunity. I'm in no way saying the team is better off without Manny Harris, though. In fact, I'm terrified of how tentative the team will be without him and Deshawn Sims. So here's hoping Beilein will give more extended time the rest of the season so he'll be ready to run this team next year.
Can we stop saying that Michigan showed improvement against Purdue? I mean Purdue was ahead by 15-20 points for most of the game and Michigan mounted a run to cut the lead to 10 with seconds remaining in the game. The game was competitive only for the first 5 minutes when Sims was on fire. It's like Iowa fans saying they showed improvement against Michigan because they lost only by 14 after barely being able to score in the first half. My point being that the final score being somewhat close doesn't mean either game was competitive at all.
i think he meant simple carbohydrates. i doubt charlie eats much whole wheat pasta or brown rice..
Great stuff as always guys. I Great stuff as always guys. I was waiting for this one all week after that devastating loss on Saturday. There aren't a whole of fellow fans to commiserate with here in La-La land. There was a great moment of unintentional humor 2/3 of the way through where Brian or Tim went a coughing frenzy. Might want to edit that whopper out. It sounded like someone was dying.
Irish, your good-natured pokes are falling on deaf ears my friend. We need something to be happy about and right now that is the possibility of one Tony Jefferson suiting up in Maize and Blue!
No :) There wasn't a smiley face, so that's probably why people think you took it too far. :)
at least at least for this one, the announcers actually voiced their disagreement with the call to overturn the touchdown. I had to miss the end of the game so I didn't hear the call for the 2-pt conversion. I pretty much figured ND would come back with 3 minutes left and down 5. I did set my DVR just in case though, so if Washington somehow won I could see Weis' priceless expression when the moment of defeat sunk in.
yeh It's pretty sad that we already know how ESPN is going to cover this story. It's even more ridiculous when you consider Vick was terrible in the West Coast offense before the dog fighting scandal.
interesting move As an Eagles (and Michigan fan, yes I know, weird combination) fan, I think it's worth the gamble. There really isn't any downside since most of the contract won't be guaranteed. He's not really ready to play QB, so they can use him for a few plays a game in the Wildcat like they did with DeSean Jackson. Or, maybe as a kick returner. All of the pending stories about McNabb's dissatisfaction should be ignored. It doesn't affect his unquestioned role on the team whatsoever.
10.28 was a hand-time Not to rain on everyone's parade(if someone hasn't already), but the 10.28 was most likely a hand-time and so you can add at least .2 to get the true time. If you're really concerned with his track speed, pay close attention to his times at official state/regional meets and not dual meets. Those will be electronically timed.
well... Michigan's last 2 basketball head coaches were black. The question should be more like how many colleges have ever had a black football coach? There are only a handful in the country that currently do. I don't really like getting into these sort of "I'm not racist, I have a black friend" type of debates. Just because Kentucky will have a black football coach and basketball coach doesn't mean racism no longer exists in the Kentucky A.D. Exception does not equal rule.
i know we need it... but i feel like i have sold my soul by rooting for duke so much the last few weeks. i just hope duke cant somehow steal a number one seed if they win the ACC. at least if they're a 2 there's a better chance of them getting knocked out early in the tourney.
Neutral Court Michigan beat UCLA and lost to a Duke on a neutral court. They beat Duke at Crisler.
Novak et all I understand he is under-sized and playing out of position. My point is would we not be better served inserting a more traditional power forward with size, at least more than we are now. I'm not saying get him off the court completely. I don't deny that he is a great effort player on defense or that he can catch fire from behind the arc. I am saying that he is a liability on offense if he is not hitting his high difficulty 3s. We get one shot on a possession just about every time. Of course it's not just his fault. But wouldn't we better served playing someone with more size a little bit more who is big enough to get us some offensive rebounds, who might not bring as much "hustle" on the defensive side of the floor, but could make it up for with size? (My apologies for the run-on sentence) It's one thing to try hard, but the old adage of you can't teach size comes to mind. I know a lot of people don't like being critical of the Indiana freshman, but I'm just trying to have an open discussion. I'm certainly not a bandwagon fan, but like many of you I spend a lot of time watching and reading about our team and I want to share my opinion. We got killed on the boards against Wisconsin, 32-22. If we grab just a few more boards late to prevent second-shot opportunities, we would likely have a tourney birth wrapped up. Could we have done so with Shepherd or Wright in at PF? Possibly. In any case, I have a good feeling about our game at Minnesota next week. Minnesota has been sliding the last few weeks It feels like a lifetime since we won a big game on the road. Here's to hoping the boys can get it done this weekend.
what happened with manny harris? just came back. did he throw a novak elbow?
any one know where i can stream this game? I'm in L.A. so i stuck with the crappy pac 10 game on cbs...
