Universities would put that sort of clause in a contract where if you take our team to a lower level or two, it's automatic firing without compensation....
|4 years 35 weeks ago||Recruiting focus||
I think that would make coaches focus more on recruiting players they know would stick around. It would prevent a Kentucky-esque basketball situtaion where Calipari recruit five kids that win him the title and they all leave...
Coaches would have to encourage the children to stay in school longer, thus more houses of learn-ed doctors, as Dale Dobeck would say.

He landed on the boundary line, and his progress didn't stop in the field of play....regardless of the ball hitting the ground. He was out. Don't understand why the side judge even thought it was a grab....He was out from the get go

The kid's a sophomore and has NFL size. He throws the deep ball really tight and was moving in the pocket well enough to find a late-breaking receiver.

Also, I don't know why the video editor felt the need to circle-highlight a kid playing quarterback?!?

UConn and Tenn. womens bball, and ACC soccer, and IVY League lacrosse, and IVY League crew.
There are certainly teams and sports that women have created a culture for and they wouldn't go away.
|5 years 39 weeks ago||rebuttal||
"...by forcing schools to treat female athletes as equal to male athletes."
I'm just going to point at the elephant in the room and say they aren't equal in terms of athleticism at the college level.
"...if high schools started cutting girls' sports, then women's sports at the college level might start drying up..."
This would be good for colleges who could start, to you know, break out of the red and get back into the black. You know, start working with a budget and not always be in debt... The economy is so bad that it takes drastic measures, and if Title IX was repealed for 5 or 6 years, it would allow schools to start making money.
I am for women's rights, but I dont necessarily think playing sports in college is a right. It's a gift. Most college athletes (men and women) don't have the gift, so why should a school be forced to recruit these athletes just to field a team in order for the schools to have equal teams to let their profitable sports exist.

|6 years 3 weeks ago||agreed||
It has to be hard on a coach to know that the fan base is giddy over the possibility that another coach might come in. If RR bolts for Pitt or UConn or any school not named michigan, how nervous will DB be?
Does that mean Ron English might be the fallback guy and we get a defensive minded coach who struggled in the MAC?
|6 years 3 weeks ago||he won't stay in Stanford||
You could tell last night from the post-game ceremony when he said to Ravich, "I hope you can respect what these kids did." Then he added someting like, Cardinal Charge to the Championship. i love you guys...
It was definitely a farewell speech. And then sitting next to Andrew, he had the demeanor of, "this is the last time you'll see me in Cardinal red."
So, he won't be back at Stanford. Everyone could tell...so it looks like NFL or bust, and why shouldn't he follow his brother's path?
|6 years 3 weeks ago||RR doesn't = Coop and John L||
The reason we all loved Cooper and Smith was because there weren't signs of improving. Every year, those programs had terrible recruiting classes and the coach couldn't find wins.
RR is much different in that he has progressively gotten better. He has recruits coming in and the writing is on the wall that he is going in the right direction. 3 wins, 5 wins, 7 (8) wins...
You can't same RR is the same as Coop and John L because he's not even close...

face down in the turf, thinking how he was the only one who messed up. Nevermind the fact the other 10 guys all had chances at making the tackle. He just looks ompletely defeated, like, "How can we beat this guy?"
|6 years 3 weeks ago||Andrew Peterson||
Not sure if he's just really good at getting off the ball, but I think half of the clips where he's blowing up a lineback he would definitely be called for a false start. He rolls out of his stance, which will be flagged at the college level.
Nonetheless, he looks like a giant among elves. After two years of learning the position at Michigan, and he could be a big-time playmaker.

Illinois is a very solid team this year with an explosive offense, which means GERG will not do anything common sensical and the defense will probably look like it has taken steps backward from the PSU game...
Illinois has 3 losses. Two to legitimate teams (OSU and Mizzou) and one to a so-so top-25 team (MSU)....
There isn't much Michigan can hope for other than playing in a loud Big House may rattle Scheelhouse a bit. But, honestly, let's not try to convince ourselves the defense might make a stop or four because they were suposed to make one stop against MSU, and then iowa, and then a walk-on QB. But it ain't been happenin'...

...PSU is equal to UConn, but UConn has a better line and PSU is going to score more points?
Don't know how that works, but either way, I'll take any game that the defense allows less than three touchdowns, let alone less than two!
Also, does anyone suppose Denard has a short leash, and a few bad throws leads to a change of pace with Tate? Just wondering others' thoughts...
|6 years 14 weeks ago||also||
I'm not trying to be confrontational....i definitely agree there was a whistle, and probably made a few players stop playing...
|6 years 14 weeks ago||Um, not sure of your point?||
Yes, there is a whistle sound, but ...
The offensive line was already destroyed and the kick already blocked. So what if someone fielded it and ran it back to the 50, there never should have been a field goal attempt.
If the staff wanted to give Iowa the ball back, they should have called for the pooch punt method and not the field goal block method.
A turnover on downs there (if we go for it on fourth down and don't get it) doesn't spoil the confidence of the team as much as a blocked field goal. As Brian says every week, STOP KICKING THE DAMN BALL...

I moved to the Equality State in 2007, exactly three days after the Post-Apocalyptic-Oregon Game.....And since I cover the Cowboys for the newspaper, I was at War Memorial as they gave a brief glimpse of hope against Texas, before finding out the separation of the Mountain West and the Big X(II).
Naturally, immediately after the game ended, I went to the first place I knew would have the ND game on. That's how I ended up at there.
I wasn't trying to be Deb Downer, just saying that we have more things to look forward to than a dismal win against 2009-version of ND.
|6 years 25 weeks ago||Me likey||
It's great to think back and remember all the good that has come, however few and far between. There is still a part of me that thinks the Worst of the Decade far exceed the Greatest of the Decade.
I remember exactly where I was for every debacle in the Unfortunate 11, but with the Best of the Best, those same feelings don't resurface. I mean being at a Chilis in Laramie, WY, when Matthews slanted and cutback to the front corner of the endzone against ND isn't tops on my list.
I mean, we're debating right now between a last-second win against a piss-poor ND team in 09 and recaliming the brown jug in 2008?....that's what we're stuck with? Why not throw in the 08 Miami (NTM) win as it was RichRod's first.
Somehow, the question isn't which bowl win was better; which top-five finish to the season was better.
It's what early-september win gave me more of a 3-hour thrill than the other? Which one decided my fate of heading to Brown Jug or somewhere on Main Street with friends, or if I was going to settle for a quick stop at Corner Liquor before sulking home, drawing the shades and catching up on DVR recordings of Jeopardy!
Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the list and the memories, but I just wish we hadn't sunk to this level where a John Thompson Pick Six which amounted to nothing more than two-thirds of our win total for the season.
It's just sad, and I think it means there are better days to come. I hope everyone continues to stay on board. For eventually the Moon gets close to the Earth and the tides change...
Thanks for everything, Brian!

Fans showed up in droves on Sunday in Fort Collins. I thought the CSU fans were pretty rowdy, but it was in good fun. They heckled Stone in goal, and he made some HUGE stops in the fourth quarter.
I think my favorite phrase that came from the mouth of a CSU student that others called "Jose Querv-Ho" was when he said, "Hey, Michigan. Are you getting tired? You look tired. The air's too thin up here." This of course came right in the middle of Michigan scoring 5 straight in the fourth quarter. After each goal, the heckler continued, "Are you getting tired Michigan?"
The answer was obviously, yes. They were getting tired of scoring goals on the Ram goaltender.
