|1 week 14 hours ago||and, he could hit||
LIke the fielding moves, you watch, and are not quite sure how he does it. He had at least one hit while pitching for UM.
The bunt thing was hilarious. Like the opponents figure he got all the way to UM without learning how to field a bunt? Yet teams would still try. Those were the easiest outs he got.
And his daughter is on our volleyball team now.

Southern football back then was pretty much scuffling hillbillies.

ESPN Blowhard Beano Cook ranted about how Paterno would make the Big Ten his bitch.
A couple of great Keith Jackson quotes during the contest: as the scores scrawled, Auburn, on probation that year, was winning, and Keith said, under his breath, they would probably go undefeated.
Which they did.
Penn State seeming to him to not be extending maximum effort:
"Still, this is Michigan, and you'd better tend to your knitting."
A friend from Wenley House freshman year saw these shirts in the crowd. In those pre-web days, to get two, (one for me - thanks again) he called the Penn State bookstore the Monday after the game and had them mailed to him.

Not that I remember, but, with Purdue's first, and Indiana's only, Rose Bowl appearances in the 1960s, and the no repeat rule, there were lots of different Rose Bowl Big Ten teams before Woody and Bo took over starting in 1968.
1960 in order of finish:
Iowa - Evashecki, their #1 all time coach
Minnesota - Warmath, their #1 all time coach
Ohio - Hayes
MSC - Daugherty
UM - Bump Elliot
Illinois - Pete Elliot (I know, probation after)
All of the above won Rose Bowls
Northwestern - Ara Parseghian their #1 all time coach
Purdue - Jack Mollenkopt their # all time coach (check record v ND & Purdue) also won Rose Bowl
Wisconsin - Milt Bruhn lost two Rose Bowls, but ended up rated #2 in the country after 1962 season, highest ever for Bucky
Indiana - Phil Dickens

Live from Cincinnatti
First, to the let's go blue! chant, they yell let's go Sioux!
and still wear those Indian head jerseys.
Second, looking at season stats? not so predictive for today. Check out ND preview, and how often they scored more than two goals in a game the last two months.
Look at how Racine is playing now.
UND gave up plenty of good scoring chances to Northeastern.
Will they play a penalty free game today? Uh, no.
Will we give up good scoring chances? Uh, yes.
UND very good? yes.
Dominant? No way.
Our 1998 national title team was 0 and 4 against MSC, and not nearly as good as the 97 team that was upset 3-2 in the semis.

Spartan morons (excuse the possible redundancy) were yelling for Izzo' scalp not that long ago.
Do you really think he changed something to turn it around?
That he started recruiting or coaching differently?
No one stays on top forever. Everything has cycles.
College hoop is highly variable, and, as Ace aptly points out:
"College basketball is played on a razor's edge."
We lost our best, and 6th best, players, for the entire conference season.
In many of the games I watched, I saw the same problem, no reliable first, or second, offensive option. SF Austin and N. IA. played great, especially when getting turnovers and transition shots. When forced into their half court offenses at the end of games, big problems.
So, the situation is not unique to us, it is not because Beilein suddenly forgot how to coach.
Ace sums it up nicely.
We shall see.
For me, Go Blue!

on the road, why the naysaying? why give up now? we have been a third period team all year. Very rare to call 4 penalties in a row on one team, so now they can call the Minnesota interferences et al again.

I believe espn set the start of that game at 8:00 p.m.on a Sunday night
|31 weeks 4 days ago||just when I think they've turned the corner -||
as at Minnesota, they turn another corner, Ohio at home.
So, did we turn yet another corner last weekend?
At this point, I don't care. I am sucked into my fandom again.
I saw my first game the last year of the Coliseum, Angie Moretto on a terrible team.
Leading up to the OT title game loss to WIsconsin at Olympia, in 1977, after coming back from being down 5 -2 after two periods.
That team could score goals.
Then the LONG dry spell until Red.
I will make the road trip to Cincinatti, if we are there.
|31 weeks 4 days ago||defense stick defending pass toward blue line||
just a guess, PSU had a lot of SHG
could be coached that way to try for deflection to center ice and scoring chance
|31 weeks 4 days ago||we win as favorites||
I believe we won every game we were favored to win
and lost all we were underdogs in, except, MD and Purdue at home
and Indiana in the tournament.
That streak should continue for one more game.

this is still under his Bubble Watch column on ESPN site:
Michigan has work to do. There is no more work to do. (We realize we need another category for Champ Week Bubble Watch updates, something to distinguish teams in this rather unfortunate position. We hope the High Bubble Council will approve this measure in advance of the 2017 tournament. You have 11 months to send suggestions.)
Michigan [22-12 (10-8), RPI: 55, SOS: 54] Every season, there is at least one mediocre high-major bubble team that grabs a big win or two in its conference tournament and becomes a cause celbre in the hours before the selection show. When these arguments deign to designate another team that must, mathematically, accommodate this cause, a mid-major is typically sent to the slaughter. This philosophical movement has a name: "Packerism." In the past 24 hours, Michigan has been the primary recipient of Packerist-tinged support. Arguments like "but, the Big Ten!" and "but, the eye test!" have been used a lot to explain why the Wolverines -- who beat Big Ten champ Indiana (in Indianapolis) on Friday and lost 76-59 to Purdue on Saturday -- should be in the 2016 tournament. These are not particularly persuasive arguments. The Wolverines had two months to take advantage of playing in a league like the Big Ten. They beat three top-100 opponents (plus Texas in the nonconference) in that span. After Saturday, they are 4-11 against the top 50 and 4-12 against the top 100. At some point, you should take those chances. Eye test? This was the Big Ten's fifth-best offensive team and its ninth-best per-possession defense. A day before the Indiana win, Michigan barely survived Northwestern, and hardly looked good doing it. A day later, Purdue ran them off the floor. This is not a sleeping giant whose resume conceals its true nature. It's a mediocre team. Not bad, not good. Just mediocre. It deserves to be on the bubble with a 50-50 chance of getting in the field. That's how it should be. Just don't pretend otherwise.

This is a phenomenon of maturing.
Each year, there are fewer days until Christmas from the last year, and more days from the last game of football season until the next season's opener.
Someone should study this.
