I was born there.

Detroit, MI that is.  I have never thought of it as an epic disaster.  In fact I defend it everywhere I go.

I read about this in the paper (after seeing it here LOL!) It does seem like kind of a douchy thing to say about Detroit when the founder of the town was from Detroit.

Anyway...  I get where your coming from.

Peace

Detroit, Salem, Portland, Albany.....

Dayton, Lafayette, Dallas, etc....   Not much creativity around here.  But yeah...  aside from the views, hiking, skiing, fishing, thousands of acres of wilderness it really not that nice.

Don't pretend that  Michiganders are proud of Detroit.

Totally agree

I just wish more fans felt the same way.

We could give them a game right now!

At least more than Penn State did.

agreed

You've outlined the most likely scenario.  But as we have seen this year the difference between winning and losing can come down to a few plays.  If we fall to Purdue and/ or Illinois RRod will legitimately be on the hot seat.  Right now I don't believe he is, regardless of what the media wants us to think.

One has nothing to do with another

I think Brandon made this decision because it will be good for the program.  Just he will make his decision about RRod based on what is best for the program over the long term and not how it might effect the outcome of one game.

How do we recruit defensive players...

if GERG leaves the program?   It seems to me that good players do not want to play for programs that oust their coaches every 3 years.  I do see this defense be competent in a couple years.  Keeping our freshmen in the program is step 1.  GERG may not be able to put together a great defense but getting rid of him now does more harm than good.

Luv him!

It seemed like he was all over today.  As bad as things were, he made me smile every time he made a play.

Do the coaches get any credit for his development as a player?  Or are they only responsible when underclassmen make mistakes?

3-3-5

RR is using it because that is what he is comfortable with and that is what he has had success with in the past. Like his offense it relies on speed and quickness to be successful. This is the first year he has fully committed to it so it isn't surprising to me that on defense we look like we did on offense 2 years ago. I think if they stick with it we will see similar improvement next year.

Things have been pretty easy for him

Until now.  He was just rushing things a little because he was against a faster, more talented defense than he has seen so far.  Nothing more than that. He will be fine.

Any 5-1 teams?

That would want to have them as starters?  I doubt it.  They might want to have them on the team but not starting yet.  I can't imagine anyone wanting to have our situation in the secondary.

I don't think it has that big an impact.

Which is why I don't think changing again will change the results.

Continuity

RR fired one DC and that didn't work.  He changed schemes and that hasn't worked (yet).  This is year one with GERG and the 3-3-5.  At this point I wouldn't expect another shakeup of coaching and schemes to yield any different results.  At this point picking the coach and the scheme and giving it time to work would be a radical change from the status quo over the past three years.

Syracuse schedule

I was curious about this too.  Syacuse has faced. Akron, Washington, Maine, Colgate, South Florida.  I think our defense would not look nearly as bad against that schedule.

We tried the "fire the DC" route and here we are.

I don't think he was conservative yesterday

When I watched yesterday it looked like he was trying to do all the things many on this board were screaming for him to do all week.  Less 3 man fronts, more blitzing, etc.  He wasn't sticking to the same things that haven't been working so far.  We just don't have the talent yet.

we have our coach

Not looking for a coach.  Won't be looking in the near future.  Going through another coaching transition is the last thing this team needs.

3 man rush

UFR will tell the tale but I didn't notice 3 man rush as much today.  They got more pressure on Cousins than any other quarterback this year.  GERG's calling was much more aggressive in this game and it was effective for much of the first half.  The offensive did not make the plays they needed to in the first half.  If they do, it is a different game.

Shaw was our most productive back today ave. 8.4 yds per.

Denard was noticeably frazzled when things weren't working.  Putting in Tate to give Denard a chance to calm down would not have been a bad idea.

Whatever though.  As long as they stay focused they have a shot at 8 wins.  If they do that today will soon be ancient history.

No

I'm more inclined to trust RRod's assistants that came with him from WV more than I trust GERG.  They have a better track record of developing talent at this level than GERG has.  I assume the reason GERG was hired was to implement RRod's vision for our defense.  This is essentially year one of that process with their commitment to the 3-3-5.  Its not surprising that our defensive execution resembles that of our offensive execution in year one.  More that anything we need continuity with the coaching staff and the time to develop players with whatever system they run.

thought?

I don't see much evidence that any serious thought was put into RRod's hiring regarding his resume as an offensive guru, charting a new direction for the program, etc.  When you look at the list of candidates, actual and rumored, he is that only one with these credentials.  The fact is, at the time, he was the only one of these candidates that wanted the job.  I hope the horror of that search sticks in people's minds so we don't have to repeat it.

Rodriguez has been here the last two Febs.

When he failed to land JB Daniels in favor of Justin Feagin.

CMU

I don't remember if anyone had given them credit for being the best football team in the state.

I doubt Kelly leaves Cincy

I don't have any hard evidence to support this but whenever I hear Kelly talk I get the impression that his goal is to become an institutional icon at a program, like Cincy, previously unknown for football. If he keeps up what he is doing, he has the chance to be Cincy's Paterno, Bear, Woody, or Bo. That is what I think motivates him. He can't get that at ND. That is why I think he stays at Cincy.

Your right

You get ball on the ground a la Mallet 2007. At least they are easier to recover.

Spread punt formation

The thing that I remember most about 2005 was them not being able to execute routine punts out of that spread formation.

Demetrius Brown

I remember him throwing four interceptions in one game. In those days it seemed like more than 15 attempts and it felt like Bo was going pass happy.

debunked

I've been a member of this site for less than two minutes and even I know that Brian thoroughly debunked this exact same theory last year.

When measured against other programs that have installed new coaches approximately the same time Rich Rod is doing just fine. This includes Petrino and Ryan Mallet at Arkansas.

All the haters need to get a clue. It isn't Rodriquez's fault that Paul Johnson or Les Miles or Brian Kelly were not hired. Rodriguez is our coach and that isn't changing anytime soon.
