“If it ain’t broke, don’t…

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” is shortsighted and reactive. NASA missions would have failed with that philosophy.

Harbaugh's Statement

It is a shame Harbaugh failed to name Rich Rodriguez as a former coach.  It was unnecessary.

Ohio State??

How about Ohio State?  During the height of the furor over Tressel, the President of OSU stated, "I'm just lucky that Jim Tressle allows me to be President."

This is where the rubber meets the road.  The atmosphere, environment, system, attitude, mindset that exists to make a President of the University say such a thing.  The NCAA should discipline OSU for that statement because that is exactly the attitude that lead to the PSU disaster.  Hit the disease before it metastasizes.

Rodriguez

Thanks for the last words on Rodriguez.  I miss the excitement he and his offense generated.  Somehow, I think Hoke will benefit from what Rodriguez taught these young players.  Rodriguez deserves much of the credit for this coming season's success.

Prediction

I saw a poor Michigan State team beat a discombobulated Iowa team the other night.  Even though MSU won by 20, the two teams both played poorly, with MSU playing less poorly.  Michigan is the better team - no question about it.  Michigan 75 - MSU 62.

Rodriguez' Offense

What I lament is the absence of excitement in the Hoke offense vs. that of Rodriguez'.  RR's offense was exciting and had me itching for the next offensive play, the next game, the next year.  That excitement is hard to match.  If only he had spent a little more time on defense and won more games.  I'm not (and this may just be the time of the year) excited this year as I was last year in looking forward to Michigan football.  The fan excitement that RR's offenses generate is hard to match.  Here's hoping  I'll be shocked at what Hoke does.

Great Job

Great job, Brian, for your diligence in finding those facts.  It looks like things were out of control before RR got there.  I suspect he kept the existing staff because of pressure to do so and because those incumbents were the only ones who knew the Michigan system.  Nonetheless, he should have been aware or made sure there were systems to catch the inadequacies.

Mouton Suspension There is no bigger Michigan and Rodriguez fan than I. But, Rodriguez should have known that Mouton's actions were worthy of a suspension and should have ordered it himself. Yet, he passes on it and the Big Ten takes action. He needs to think these things through. This is yet another blow to Michigan's credibility and makes it more likely that the NCAA will take action.
Rosenberg Note the early morning Free Press headline was, "Win at all costs a poor formula for Rodriguez." changing later in the day to, "Hey Wolverines: What you don't know can hurt you."
TOMVH:
I'd like to see you
TOMVH: I'd like to see you ask more open-ended questions. You ask a good opening question, then add additional questions which limit the subject's response. If you ask simple, not compounded, open questions, you'll get more information and perhaps information that no one else has. For examples: TOM: Terrence was offered during the visit, or after? Ask, "Was Terrence offered?" TOM: I know you play defensive tackle right now for your high school, but you’re a little bit smaller for defensive tackle in college. Did they say you have a chance to move over to defensive end, or do they want you to stay at defensive tackle? Ask, "I know you play defensive tackle right now for your high school, but you’re a little bit smaller for defensive tackle in college. Did they say you have a chance to move over to defensive end?" TOM: You were offered before this visit right? Ask, "Did Michigan make you an offer?" Please accept this constructively.
