Rudock

Turned around Rudock's career. Was probably a top 3 B1G qb that year, and has stuck in the NFL as a back up.

But point taken. I think we all expected consistently excellent quarterbacking. Between Peters, McCaffery, and Milton, someone is going to pop as elite.

Locke or Nunez tho

Are the 2 CC and Locke, or CC and Nunez, though?

Targeting

Surprised you posted the two Purdue-based articles: both of them majorly whined about confirmed targeting calls. They both, as well as in the comments, said there were a few plays where Michigan could've been called for targeting; one hit on Anthrop, in particular. Wondering if anybody could gif/clip that hit. Wouldn't be surprised if my maize goggles stopped me from seeing at least the argument.

Jordan Bell

If you're talking about the Oregon game, Mo had a terrible shooting night and was being blanketed by one of the few 5s in the country that could guard Mo at all 3 levels--Bell was the Pac-12 defensive player of year.

DJ was in there for defense and...*sighs*....rebounding. He also was hitting from 3 (4/8) while Mo was missing and the misses were ugly.

That SB Nation OL post by

That SB Nation OL post by Schwartz was great. I had to chuckle, though, when he called OSU's offense pro-style.

I wish he would do some analysis on the technique of our OL from last year, and I wonder if Frey is a technique savant.

UMhoops

Hope this is Kosher, but: for anyone who was interested enough to read this article, UMhoops.com absolutely falls under the category of "paywall-worthy" site, for any avid Michigan basketball fan (a lot of good B1G-general basketball info, too). They recently moved to the Paetron model. I have absolutely no affiliation to the website, just a huge fan; and I think those who appreciate things like UFR would like UMhoops' content.

Mark Smith

My MSU friends were definitely more concerned with getting Mark Smith, than McCoy. I think Smith announces today; time to see if Underwood can recruit his new state and earn that $3 mill

Unfortunately, though, I think Langford and Winston will be a very good 4-year backcourt. I do love the idea of McQuaid and Nairn being the only guard depth

On MAAR's "added

On MAAR's "added drive-and-kick element" gif, couldn't help but to notice DJ's pretty backdoor cut; you know, just in case MAAR decided a wide-open Walton 3 might be less efficient than a wide-open DJ dunk. So many weapons in Heisen-... Beilein's arsenal.

Dakch actually knows basketball things

The guy can spout jibberish and get wayyy off-track sometimes (a lot), but he actually knows team's and player's tendencies/strategies/histories, especially the B1G. I'd take his combination of nonsense and actual insight over the drab, useless input of Bardo and Morris, who just repeat back what their eyes are showing them in that moment.

Derrick probably cares...

Derrick probably cares...But sure, I'm sure he'd take a tourny run over the award every time. Still, it sucks that he didn't get the recogniton he deserves.

And we dont get a home rebuttal

And we dont get a home rebuttal against what might be the worst team to ever be ranked 16th in RPI; and our path to the 4th seed would be built on a much shorter list of contingencies; and I love complaining.

Dakich overstepped & Izzo overreacted

Dakich shouldnt have said "dumb" or brought up admissions, and Izzo should be the bigger man and not drone on about it. He should stick up for his players and fanbase, but saying he wished he was in the Izzone to join the chants? That's pretty childish.

Auba...woof

I know Aubamayeng has a history of wasting open chances in front of the net (more a reflection of just how many opportunities he get's in Dortmund's beautiful offense, considering his constant golden boot threat), but today was terribly abysmal. he looked downright distraught; hope he can shake it off. Also dont know why Durm got the start, even with the 5-4-1 formation (or 3-2-3-1 or whatever it's called). Not super confident that Dortmund will keep the clean sheet, in the second leg. Echte Liebe!

Serious sparty goggles

I dont think anyone had more of their self-worth attached to that stupid blocked punt than she did. Crazy how one fluke play can change the mindset of an entire fanbase.

Cash is slow

Winston's recruiting profile was: slow with nice handles and elite vision, and that's held true through his college career, to date. He doesn't get his assists by blowing by his man, he does it by never failing to see an open guy and passing his guys open. Especially after the IU game, I think Walton vs Winston falls in our favor, Walton *should* be able to take Winston off the bounce.

The reffing cant be understated

7 fouls in 5 minutes, almost strictly soft, touch fouls, isn't basketball. We played a huge portion of the second half without some combination, and largely all 3, of Walton, Mo, and DJ. Wisconsin was shooting 1-and-1 for the last 15 minutes of the game. They didn't review the Simpson out of bounds. They didn't give Duncan the tie-up. They didn't realize that Wisconsin's shot clock reset, after they called a time out. And they let Haye's get away with playing like he's 160 pounds. Sure, we could've still won the game, despite the referees. But everyone knew we would have to play a great game to even keep it close, and we did. The difference had whistles in their mouths.

Iso Weave

I'm pretty afraid of Indiana and MSU (maybe Wisky?) running that same iso-weave that UCLA ran to get mismatches. Not many teams have 7 players at the 1-4 spots that can create the number of mismatches that UCLA could, but that's still such an easy motion to run and Michigan had no answer for it (cant stay in front of their man + no shot blocker in the paint).

Bright side: we ran a lot of good offense, both transition and half-court. We may have even gotten some better paint looks in the second half, just missed them/got swatted (a couple of DJ and Zak misses come to mind).

I understand cautious

I understand cautious optimism after the rough last 2 years, but some of the pessimism here is crazy. SMU would be a top half B1G team, easily. We are executing JB's offense, playing with an entirely redesigned defensive mentality/philosophy/strategy, and have a ton of experience now backed up with renewed depth. I'm not saying that we are going to play this well for the rest of the season or dominate top of the B1G, but nothing from this 4-0 start is a fluke; it's all by design.

It's been quiet

I was a little worried when there weren't a bunch of recruting articles, gushing about how influential Harbs was when he visited Harris. But maybe that's mostly because Harris is playing close to the vest?

Was hoping Hill would get

Was hoping Hill would get some love for the great blocking and EIGHT rushing touchdowns (plus 1 receiving)

My bad

I was just talking in terms of winning the B1G East; totally unrelated to the CFP.

But I do think, under the circumstances I said above, that if the winner of the East wins the B1G championship, then they would get a CFP bid, even with a loss. But, having one loss instead of none definitely hurts the team's chances, you're right about that.

OSU's schedule

Somehow I hadn't yet looked at OSU's schedule. While they're HEAVY favorites against both Wisco and Nebraska, I'm sure glad we already beat the former and dont play the latter.

It's intersting that one loss by either/both Michigan or OSU, before THE Game, doesn't matter much (assuming all other East teams have at least two losses, which the charty, staty stuff seems to think is likely). 11-0 vs 11-0, 11-0 vs 10-1, and 10-1 vs 10-1 all put the same weight on THE Game-->winner take all. Obviously losing one non-OSU game puts on pressure to not lose another non-OSU game, but it's an interesting case of leeway, for both teams.

3 Weeks of Practice

I dont even necessarily agree with you, but I am just (relatively) glad(?) about the timing of Newsome's injury: Rutgers, Bye, Illinois gives us time to figure it out, and I have full faith in Drevno to do the best with his resources.

The same idea, more or less, applies to the Clark injury. Obviously I dont think any of the other options (Watson, Long, Kinnel) will be as good as Clark, this season, but I'm glad we get to take some time to practice (actual practice, and play against poor teams) before the schedule picks back up.

Leatherwood takes Bama off his Twitter

Saw that Leatherwood took all of the Bama stuff off his twitter, including "commit." Cant be bad news, right?
