Parallel with Michigan?

So you're saying that you support a product that peaked in the early 20th century and has, for the most part, been on a steady decline for the last 100 years while it's chief competition has seen markedly increased success; particulary recently?

On a Michigan football blog I just can't buy into that logic

SLC

Been in SLC for over 2 years now. Love it. Have friends in DEN as well and wouldn't mind living there. If you like to ski, hard to argue with SLC's proximity to the resorts. I live downtown (sugarhouse area) and I can be on a lift within 30-40 mins door-to-door. Alcohol laws can be a pain, but you learn to deal. Really a non-issue for me now.

Mden I've been trying to track down some 7" Mich running shorts for the last few years. Since the Adidas switch I haven't found anything. Wife is a Gator and hasn't had an issue...just saying...Nike.
You realize that Michigan is You realize that Michigan is in the United States, right? Sorry if that offends you, but you could always just stay in Canada.
A 5-2 loss during round robin A 5-2 loss during round robin and an OT win? You can brag if you want, guess Canada doesn't have much else going for it, but that's not exactly a resounding victory. Especially for a country that hangs it's hat on one sport.
Ding Ding

You hit the nail on the head. Having read the whole thread, seems we have a debate between those that have played and/or watch a lot of hockey versus those that watch hockey highlights.

Played my whole life from AAA (Caesars!) to Junior A (Compuware...minor, I know) and can say without a doubt that those that play the game understand certain elements that casual fans will never. The fighting comments are a perfect example. I recall the first fight on a team I played for at around age 14. I have seen line fights involving high school age players. It happens. Hockey is a unique game, good and bad. If you don't like it, don't watch.

PS- I wonder if some of the posters believe that Suh should be "thrown in jail for a few years" for some of the antics he pulls on the football field. Perspective.

???

For those of us not patched into what Wayne State is up to these days you might want to actually say what you are wishing them luck in.

BCS vs. Pre-BCS

I agree with most that a rematch would be upsetting at some level. However, I wouldn't blame the BCS for this one, as it does happen from time to time. In 1996, the defacto championship game was in fact a rematch. In which the winning team (Florida) had lost to the losing team (Florida st) earlier in the year. Doesn't excuse the Mich/OSU vs LSU/Bama rematch inequity, but just saying...sometimes it happens.

True

St Louis is still a gamer for sure. However, there is no debate that for the first half of last year, Stamkos was the only player on Crosby's level (though I dislike his brand of hockey, can't deny his skill). The fact that the OP can't recognize this...

Don't you have to actually play to be on a players ranking list?

Double post Double post
NHL readiness

Though this has started to shift recently, most top notch players still view the CHL as the best North American road to the NHL. The numbers seem to back up that perception. Ice hockey is just such an unusual sport in that there are numerous paths to take depending on your ultimate goal. Some players matriculate through their AAA prep teams wanting (or knowing) to player Junior A somewhere and climax in the NCAA. Others want have greater aspirations that require facing the best competition and preparation. This may require the CHL. Like I mentioned, the tide has shifted a bit in the last 5-10 years, but for the majority of kids, the CHL is still the best way to prepare for the NHL.

Orlando, FL

For anyone living in downtown Orlando, check out Whiskey Dicks on Central (full address is listed below). Owner is a Mich grad from waaaaay back. His son is a huge fan and runs the day-to-day operations. You'll notice a full size winged helmet gracing the actual bar along with a hat signed by none other than Hoke. I don't make it there for every game, but I know that Mich is always on, and gets jumboscreen preference for any big games. For those of you in Florida, you know that knocking the Gators/Noles off the TV is no small feat.

Not trying to show you Not trying to show you anything junior. Just making the point that when you come on here pounding your chest about a team most on this board dislike, don't act surprised when you get called out. And this "envy" you speak of comes from the feelig that pitt was gifted a team their fanbase doesn't deserve because they didn't support the team when they needed them the most. Add to that your lack of hockey knowledge and you're asking to be mocked. Sedin, zetterberg and datsyuk overrated? Pitt "develops" players? Didn't know top 2 picks needed development. Guess the wings should learn from pitt and stop turning late round picks into superstars (datsyuk, zetterberg, lisdstrom, fedorov....).
So you're the one Ohhhhh. So you're one of the six fans Pittsburgh had between 2000-2006 when the team went bankrupt. You know, when they were the laughing stock of the league? I'm sure you are seeing as how you're such a hockey expert. Guess that's what should be expected from a fan base that only has a team due to ONE dedicated person (Mario) and a lottery (top 2 pick for half a decade) but I'm sure you already knew all that.
Thanks

Well that works out as I am 6'1" 195lb. I don't like baggy shirts either so maybe a small is the way to go. I usually wear a medium.

BCS Games

Something that I haven't seen mentioned yet is that by keeping UM/OSU in the same division you not only protect the once a year tradition, but you also make is more likely that both make it into BCS games. Living in SEC land now, it seems rare that BOTH teams from their title game go to BCS games. Last year seemed to be the perfect storm with 2 undefeated teams, but often times it seems like the title game loser does not get selected for a BCS game, while the best team that was "left out" ends up going. Putting UM/OSU in the same division keeps the importance of the game in tact, but could also increase the number of times BOTH go into BCS games in the same season. Seperating them essentially eliminates that...assuming they still play in the regular season each year and both play at their historical levels. Just a thought.

Avoiding bigger issue

Could be that security was just trying to avoid a bigger issue that may have eventually happened if either he (jersey wearer) or the hecklers were not removed. Easier to just remove the jersey wearer. Not fair, sure. Unreasonable, don't know about that.

Or...

Also reminds me of a Chappelle or Rock (can't recall) stand up joke.....You may not be a "woman of negotiable affection", but you're wearing the uniform.

If you don't want trouble...don't look for it.

Maybe

That may be true, but I certainly noticed a difference from my time visiting friends at the AA campus v. my time attending class at the D campus...and later in graduate school. I would wager that students at traditionally prestigious universities tend to be more focused than students at traditional commuter schools.

You Get What You Put In

Having graduated from the D campus, I can honestly say that you get what you put in. My best friend also graduated from there and we both went on to graduate from Med/Psyc PhD programs ranked in the top 10 in our fields. I received a presidential fellowship competing against students from schools more highly respected than AA. Meanwhile, another of my good friends who went to the AA campus is working as a night watch for a local museum. We decided to put in the work, he decided that going to AA meant that he was already successful. Would I have loved to go to the AA campus....EVERY student at the satelites would (if they are being honest). For my financial situation and major, I thought it best to graduate without debt so that loans (if necessary) could be taken in graduate school.

That being said, from my experience it is clear that these examples are the exception at the D campus, not the rule. Generally speaking, most honest people would admit that many (if not most) D students glide through their 4 years. Not everyone (don't get upset), but I found that most students were of the "well I guess I'm supposed to do this after high school" variety.

Wish more students looked at college as a means to becoming successful, not a measure of success. Just my two cents.

That....and seven generations

That....and seven generations of large family breeding.

Beat me too it...

Beat me too it....however...just googled it and the game that they showed was ACTUALLY the 1992 game that ended in a 17-17 tie. Impress your friends.

Think it was ND

Think it was ND/Mich...not sure who won

Perhaps

You might be right, but from looking back at the list from the last 4 or 5 years there seems to be a ton of movement in NHL teams. Lone exception is the Wings in this case. Three years ago, Buffalo was #1...on the entire list (not just NHL). Four or five years ago, Edmonton was ahead of the Wings. Just have to see how consistent Pitts can be I guess (hopefully not very). Not easy to keep a loaded team together these days....see Chicago 2010.

Yeah, must be nice having Yeah, must be nice having such a wealth of talent right in your backyard (all but one of those guys are from florida, or have a florida tie in haden's case). I remember watching an interview that Bear Bryant did years back and he said that if Florida could ever get a decent coach they would be one of the most powerful programs in the country due to all the in state talent.
That would be a nice addition, but That last line in the article from the Dean doesn't seem to show any interest in fielding anything more than a low level team. Too bad, I have been to that campus a few times to visit friends and it would be a nice road trip.
I like Belch He wears those negative pts like a badge of honor. Just living the dream.
Same here.. I have wondered the same thing. I am high on the idea of using him as a Harvin type hybrid position. With his speed and running vision, it would be hard not to keep him on the O-side. That being said...2 years is a loooong ways off. No way of knowing how he develops as a QB, how Gardner pans out or if Gardner even stays. I know one thing though, having to debate what the QB situation will be 2,3,4 years from now is a nice luxury that I didn't expect to have so soon.
Florida carries it... Alum in Florida and can vouch that Brighthouse carries the BTN. You have to pay an extra $4 a month for the sports pack, but they do carry it.
Your MS Paint skills have Your MS Paint skills have just made my day. Thank you. You are a true gentleman.
Thank you for yours Thank you for yours
Looks like the same is true Looks like the same is true about jackasses that have nothing better to do than police the board for repeat topics.
5th star As someone mentioned, still no five star from rivals (though scout upgraded him awhile ago). You have to see that changing soon....I just cant imagine the top ranked QB being ranked in the 50s and only getting 4 stars by seasons end. Usually the #1 or #2 OVERALL is the top QB. Based on the "impact factor" that QBs produce, I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the top 10 eventually.
Joe Schad Quotes Martin as saying he was shocked by the allegations, but he is still "ALL IN" for coach RR. HAHA. I have been asking my girlfriend constantly if she is "all in" for just about everything I can think of. I laugh like an idiot and she just gets pissed, LOL.
Thats their goal I totally agree. The problem if ESPN says, "They practiced a lot, but it was a mixture of voluntary and mandatory practice and its difficult to seperate the two. Oh, also, every team does it" they wouldn't have a story. The outlets love the fact that they have a big name team that they can "work over" to get more readers/viewers. This wouldn't even be a story with most programs.
haha Yeah...that worked well for awhile (throw in the outback win as well). But, when my only recent "we got you" is wrapped by 2 national titles by Florida, with a possibility of a 3rd, it only goes so far.
Family Values That whole thing reeked of family values. I am about ready to hop a jet back to AA this sunday so I can catch 8:30 mass with the team
The only thing that concerns me... is that I am going to have to hear crap from all these gators fans that I am forced to live with down here in FL. True or not, it just sucks that this is being reported as fact before any real investigation has started. Often, right and wrong is determined by public opinion, which in this case, is going to be based on some poor reporting. F**king freepress.
Agreed I have to agree with that point about the Florida triple option. However, I will just be happy to run ANY option play. I still have nightmares of Threet trying to run the option (though he did it a handful of times when teams weren't expecting it) with his wind-aided 5.4 sec forty speed. I know I'm not the only one that felt like Mich was one semi-fast, accurate (short pass) QB away from being a bowl team last year.
I LOVE IT It is as close to a cult in Florida as you can get while still being legal. Thank god Mich won that Cap1 game or it wouldn't even be liveable.
A few more things... As someone that played Junior A, I have to agree with the majority view. A few points: 1.) someone that size would not have the coordination to stand on skates 2.) there are equipment regulations 3.) any high caliber player can pick corners WAY better than you think (note: NHL players DO NOT take 10 shots to hit 4 targets) 4.) lack of mobility, if this person could stand, would be enough to negate the size issue I have thought of this as well..dont get me wrong...but it just wouldnt work. Also, if it did....the 700lb monster wouldnt be getting the league minimum
Background Took your advice and set it as my desktop...best decision I have ever made.
Jim Rome Anyone listen to Jim Rome's radio show today? He must have mentioned the "3 QBs at Mich" headline about 4-5 times...followed each time by "guess they don't have a qb, this season is lost, RR doesnt have a qb for his system...etc". It was like listening to some high schooler gossip about something he has no first hand knowledge of. As such...ENJOY!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVhwCzWrna0
3rd line not the reason I would attribute the loss more to... 1.) Hossa not showing up...at all 2.) top scorer and best defensive forward missing the majority of the series..and surely not 100% when he came back 3.) no rest between rounds caught up to an older team that had a very short off season 4.) .......missed too many men penalty in game 3 (or game 4, cant recall)...JFOEOJOi(#*#&&@*(@....f-ing refs
PS3 They are similar grapically...BUT...the PS3 has a better controller (in my opinion) and plays Blu Ray discs. The 360 plays HD-DVDs..which...yeahhhhh. Get the PS3
