True that Can definitely still get a passing grade w/o showing up. My question is how would not completing the semester affect APR? I'm sure Darius and manny each left to get ready for the draft without finishing up the semester. There's not much incentive to do so unless they plan on coming back to school later.
Bike I saw him and what might've been Glasgow (Idk) coming right at me last week. Both were rocking tank tops and the dude on the back had an American flag swimsuit on. Kind of scary to see that much person coming at me that fast.
Experience statistic Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe that takes into account minutes played, only years. So while Zack and Stu are l ly counted as your average senior (think equivalent to Austin Thornton), in minutes-played they're probably among the top of the league.
Gatt/Cunningham

I feel like Gatt's speed would be better served as a winger.  Also, if they're looking for defenders, why not give a look to his teammate at Molde, Sean Cunningham.  Last I heard he was doing well.

ESPN hopping on the bandwagon...

Front page article titled "Michigan players' tweets are possible violation".  Thanks for blowing up something that is nothing at all.

What happens if..

The womens basketball team narrowly misses the NCAA tourney and earns a home game in the NIT?  Will they play at Eastern?

Christian

I actually have been thinking Christian deserves a shift per game.  He brings great energy off the bench.  His defense and rebounding are good enough that he's not a liability.  Been thinking this since we had that game where everybody was in foul trouble and he got some minutes.

Northwestern

Northwestern is an opponent Michigan and Beilein certainly don't take lightly.  The team actually spent two days last week preparing for NW's offense (since they didn't play during the week), while opting to go with normal preparation of OSU.  I thought that was interesting.

Coaches getting along

It's also a lot easier to get along (or at least appear to) when your team just won a BCS game as opposed to coming off not making a bowl game, which is what RRs offseasons were like.

Love it

This is a great idea.  I'm in the Maize Rage, too. Let's make this happen.

Hmm

She seems like a pretty nice girl...

He was out for a while

I believe it was a surgery that he had early in the summer before his senior year.  Limited him for a little while in terms of camps/lifting.

Other offers

I know that at one point he had some level of interest from Wisconsin.  I know that the decision ultimately came down to Michigan vs. a couple Ivy League schools.  Very smart guy.

Gibbs

He is a great guy.  Very intellegent and nice.  Will be a great representative for our program as a peson.  Also, check him destroy ppl in his senior highlight vid.  Looks like Michael Oher in the Blindside.

My complaint with umhoops

My complaint is that for all the great information that Dylan provides, there is not enough unique content.  The game previews/recaps largely just feature kenpom numbers and other stats.  I like the player analysis bullets but I feel like he can do more than that.  Occassionally, there will be a post from Dave Merritt or a post analyzing Michigans recent trends ( ex: three point shooting slumps) but not with any sort of regularity.  All the unique stuff he does post is great which might be why I want more of it.  At least Brian gives some commentary in his posts (along with the great humor).

Denard/Fitz

I think it will be difficult to have Denard invited to the heisman ceremony if fitz is first team all big ten.  If we're riding fitz pretty hard and he gets like 1400 it's tough to see denard getting many more than 1000-1100 or so unless he has a great passing year.  It just doesn't seem like there's that that many yards to go around.  Here's to hoping I'm wrong

B1G rules?

This is the first I've heard of this.  I'm curious to know why this is a rule

Izzo

Izzo actually sent out an email to student season ticket holders telling them their performance so far this year has been subpar and that they need to step it up.

Shoes

Thanks for this.  It's extremely helpful and well put together.  But what's the rule about not betting ppl where you got your shoes?  I didn't get that one.

Ok. State

What if 'Bama beat LSU and Okie State pounded Stanford.  Any chance Okie State would get some AP votes?  I think this is more likely than LSU getting votes just bc it'd be fresh in voters minds.

Edit: Sorry, similar post below

Coaching

The coaching certificate doesn't mean all that much.  There are club soccer coaches in the state with an "A" level certification.  You obviously have to be knowledgable about the game but that doesn't necessarily make you a good coach.  He was always reluctant to make proper in-game adjustments.  He seemed to have his way of thinking and stuck with it no matter what the situation was.  I think he would've been gone a while ago if he wasn't so great at all of the other responsiblities a coach has (recruiting, pushing for funding, etc).  As far as player relationships, I understand that soccer players not liking their coach happens from time to time but from what I've heard it seems pretty unanimous and that definitely doesn't play into your favor when trying to keep a job.

Akron Soccer Coach/ Burns

Their coach has no reason to leave Akron other than money.  I've been to a game there and the environment is wild.  I would guess that they average about a 500+ students per game.  Maybe closer to 1,000.  The atmosphere is wild.  Also, a lot of people in surrounding towns come to their games.  It's a big deal.

In terms of recruiting, Akron basically goes to the Olympic Development Program national and hand picks the best plaeyers.  I think they had something like 8 players go in the first round of the MLS draft last year.  Incredible when you think there's only 11 starters.  If he came to Michigan I'm sure he'd be able to get some of these recruits to come but I guess I don't see why he would other than making him an offer he can't refuse.

Regarding Burns, he's build the program from the ground up.  What he's done for Michigan soccer is unbelievable.  As great as the students who started the Ultras were, none of that happens without Burns.  He got unlucky this year.  Lost Meram, Sooney Saad, Hamoody Saad, and Blais.  Also, his best recruit Cunningham, opted to go play in Europe (and is doing very well).  That being said, it was well-known that Burns wasn't a very good coach.  It was evident in just watching him coach that he was subpar.  A lot of the players didn't really like him, either.  Good luck to Coach Burns in whatever he ends up doing.  Great guy who Michigan Soccer owes a lot to.

OSU tix

It's weird to think, but you might actually be better off buying a pair of student tickets and getting them validated, as long as you don't mind sitting with some students (there won't be many bc a lot will be home).  Tickets are going for as cheap as $50 right now if you look in the right spots. Will only be going down as the few that are selling theirs for $300 realize there's no chance they get anything close to that.

What game theory doesn't take into account

I believe Tomlin wanted to kick originally, so let's assume he's attempting a 51 yard field goal.  For a normal NFL kicker in a normal stadium this is a no-brainer.  But Siusem has been less than reliable this year especially from distance, and Heinz Field is the hardest stadium to kick at in the NFL.  Specifically, kicking in the open end of the stadium, which he was, is very difficult.  I believe the 51-yarder would've been the longest in the history of the stadium on that side.

Other Twitter News

Did anybody see Blake Countess' tweets today?  Seemed to be referencing Stefon Diggs...sounded promising.

Woodley/Harrison

Harrisono is practicing but has not been cleared to play and will most likely be out.  Watching the game last week, I thought Woodley's injury was a lot worse.  He went down w/o being touched.  I'm nervous about his effectiveness since hamstring injuries are often things that just don't really go away.

As to if he tackled Tom softer?  I've always kind of wondered that too, but woodley and brady never played together.  I feel like maybe if it's somebody like Braylon he wouldn't do some little stuff (like get into it after the play), but it's definitely 100%.

Smyly vs. Turner

Who has more trade value and upside?  I would think Smyly, but I'm a Turner fan.

Sinelli

I know Andrew, and he's a really good kid.  Somebody we want representing our program.  Don't count him out as a future contributor.  Congrats Andrew!

Mine

1. Super Bowl XL: my beloved Steelers topped the Seahawks.  Awesome.*

2. UM-MSU: Braylon-show.

3. Tigers-Yankees (2006, I believe): Series clincher.

4. UM-Duke: Basketball, rushing the court at Crisler. Great game overall.  I wasn't around for the Fab5, but I can imagine a jacked-up Crisler is easily comparable if not better than Yost/Big House

5. Pistons-Lakers: Game 3.  We were pretty big underdogs in this series and took care of business pretty easily.

6.  UM-PSU: Manningham, one second left.

7.  UM-MSU: Basketball at EL this year.  Going into the game with our season basically in shambles and being able to break their streak was awesome.  The looks on their faces...

8.  AFC Championship Game: This year, Steelers/Jets.

9.  UM-OSU: Our last win vs. them.  Any win vs them is awesome.

10.  UM-ND:  Football this year at South Bend.  Denard's amazing game and game-winning drive.

Honorable Mention:

Big Chill-That was just a great experience, along with the slaughtering of State.

UM/Wisco 2008- Just a great comeback.

UM/Illinois 2010- probably one of my top five most entertaining games.

HS sports-Had the chance to play in a soccer state championship game.  The whole playoff run was nuts.  This actually should be a lot higher, but I'm sure nobody here really cares.  Ha.

This list is affected by how young I am (18).  Yes, I've already lived a complete life in terms of sporting events.

* This is based almost purely on the experience of being to a Super Bowl.  There's really nothing like it.

Yeah

I'm in his class as well.  It seems as if the book is a little behind schedule, but it certainly isn't because Bacon's not working hard enough.  The book will be great.  A good point was made though, does he get a zero on his book because he  missed deadline?  I know that's how it works with out papers.

During the most recent coaching search

The Miami Dolphins were competing for Harbaugh with the 49ers. The Dolphins owner, one Stephen Ross, was going to bid the price up so high that the 49ers couldn't compete.  He'd then wait until the 49ers filled the position and then announce they were actually keeping their current coach Cam Cameron.  Harbaugh would be left with the Michigan opening and come to coach in Ann Arbor.  Then Ross and Dave Brandon would fist bump and MIchigan would never lose another game, ever.

Where is Denarded?

Just curious.

Took it

Good luck with your research, man. Happy to help!

I predict

This is the most detailed player prediction we get

80:1 Odds for Umich?

Well shoot, might as well parlay it with Denard and make some $$$

pwn3d

Get the F**k off my board.

Keep these

So pumped for basketball season.

I really don't

Doesn't seem like there's enough minutes

Lineup

PG- Darius (30), Burke (10)

SG- Novak (13), Stu (17),  Brundidge (10)

W- Hardaway (30), Vogrich (10)

PF- Smot (25), Novak (15)

C- Morgan (25), Horford (15)

I took Stu and Zach's numbers down at SG bc i think Brundidge will find his way on the court, whether it's at the two or three, for about 10 minutes.  This obviously can change a little based on how good the freshmen are.

- I think Horford's gonna break out a little over the summer.

- I think Smot is gonna make a pretty big jump too.  He'll be a really efficient 25 minutes.

- First players listed at each position are starters.

Baked potato...

......?

Article

Geez, what a touching story.  Great story.  Really shows Darius' character.  He's always been a favorite.

Do you guys really need to take the time to criticize the writing?  Take it for what it is, a truly inspirational story.

A good point but...

Hoke's daughter has actually graduated from college and will not be moving to Ann Arbor.  Although, she will probably be coming up for quite a few games.  Not a bad deal.

Glad to see this...

After his stint in Europe didn't go quite as planned.  If I had to guess, i'd say that some team will give him a shot one day.

I'm holding back my criticism of DB too

I didn't think the press conference was bad.  This whole thing could end up blowing up in DB's face, but for the time being, it hasn't.  Brandon has done enough positive things in his short tenure to incline me to trust him on this.  Unless things do go poorly, I'm willing to put a hold on all criticism.

And the crowd goes wild!

(although firing a coach is never good for a program)

Meram and Outside back replacements

Ezekiel Harris will replace one of the outside back positions (Quijano I believe).  He struggled at times but should be more than a solid replacement.  I'm not so sure who will replace the other.  As for Meram, he has a future.  I see him as more of an outside midfielder.  He will definitely be missed though.  Finding legitimate goal scorers are hard, and he definitely knew how to finish.

The bigger question here is Soony.  He definitely is getting offers to go pro and rumor has it he's strongly considering doing this.  If he's gone there will be a dramatic decline in the team next year.

Potential key to the game

Will Coach Burns trot out his normal starting formation 4-4-2 which in reality is more of a 4-1-2-1-2, which Shaw playing holding mid and Fabio and Hamoody playing a more attacking position, or will he make an adjustment?  While Coach Burns has done a ton for the program (that cannot be denied), and is by all accounts a very good guy, there's evidence to suggest that he isn't the greatest coach.  If I were him, I'd come out in a 4-2-3-1.  This would allow for a greater holding presence at the center midfield position.  Also, having Soony up top to hold the ball and then have the options of Hamoody, Meram, and Fabio at his disposal looks verrrry appealing.

Sorry for liking soccer and calling out a coach.  I know everybody on Mgoblog hates both of those things more than anything else.

Go Blue!

This is true

But, also, we have about 8 guys who regularly spend all of practice kicking field goals.  Is it too much to think that one of these guys has a "denardesque" offseason?  Is this even possible for kickers?

In the picture at the top

Who's that guy on the far right who appears to be texting?
