04/18/2011 - 1:02pm	Opportunity	This is the perfect opportunity for Mel to do for Tech what Red did for Michigan. I wouldn't be surprised either way, given that it's probably the most difficult career decision he's ever had to make. If there's an early out option in that contract for the Michigan job, he's gone. But how likely is it that Tech offers that? Not likely at all. With that said, I obviously hope he stays. What Mel and Billy bring to this program are vastly underrated.

01/18/2010 - 6:02pm	Quick Comments	Students: Bring a megaphone and implement Brian's phone idea. Don't wait for someone to call you, just do it yourself. If you don't know the cheer, ask the old timers. Thanks for going with the "Blue" part of Go Blue when we started it in Section 2. LOVE the huge Swedish flag. Excellent! Whatever happened to the section-wide Sieve chant after the anthem, Go Blue, to start the game? Props to the crew in 17 still doing it. Grads: Follow the lead of the cowbell in 18. For that matter, more cowbell! Kampfer - Played like he was sick or hungover on Saturday... remarkably slow and had no jump at all. Treais - Needs to put on some weight. Watch out if he adds 20 pounds of muscle. Lebler - Honestly, I'm impressed much more often than I'm disappointed. He's come a long way in his game this year. Llewellyn - Kinda like Lebler, except the opposite. Not sure what it's going to take to get him back (?) on track and gain some composure. Sparks - Love the energy he's shown since potting the first one at JLA. Playing with tons of confidence. Hagelin - BORK! Moffie - Playing very well positionally and isn't afraid to jump up, without getting burned back the other way. Should absolutely be in the lineup every night.

Not only was Campbell the top goaltending prospect in his class, there's no way we find someone remotely competent to replace him next year, and 2011's pickings are probably somewhat slim. 11/21/2009 - 2:04am	It's on the defense too.	Hogan hasn't looked great, that's for sure. But he's also had little to no support at times from his defense. Turnovers at inopportune times, sloppy play in the zone, and failure to break out has left him battling way more than he otherwise would. That said, his positional play and puckhandling have left a lot to be desired at times this year.
11/21/2009 - 1:46am	No sense of urgency by a lot	No sense of urgency by a lot of players at times tonight, and the longer this streak goes, the less faith they have in one another. They're flustered because they can't anticipate anything, as they don't know where their teammates are going to be. They're over-thinking plays and coughing up the puck, or not thinking at all and coughing up the puck. A majority of passes are into the skates, or worse yet into clogged lanes. They can't break the puck out of their zone. Shooting when the pass is a better bet and vice versa. Shots are extremely low percentage. Too much standing around on the powerplay waiting for something to happen versus working hard to get open. They keep getting crossed up with eachother by not reading, communicating, or anticipating (there it is again). Way too often 3, 4, or sometimes even all 5 guys are drawn to the puck. Turnbull, Miller, and Fardig would be a blessing right now to dig those pucks out of the corner. We're missing that grit with few exceptions. It's hard for dump and chase to be a good percentage play if you don't have the bodies to get it done (not that I've ever been a fan of sending 3 deep, although I do understand the puck possession philosophy). I noticed quite often tonight that they were either holding on to the puck too long, or dumping it off too quick. It's become the fine line of trying to step up and just make plays as an individual to get something started, or just hoping that your linemate is in a position to make a play himself. Unfortunately it just resulted in more turnovers than anything else. Defensively and in goal there are plenty of faults as well, but until this team can find an offensive rhythm and some sort of chemistry, there's not going to be many wins to be had. For better or worse, Michigan's never been the team to win games of the 2-1 variety. That's surely not able to start right now. Tonight was the worst yet this season. The only thing I could get even moderately excited for was Robbie's goal, because he's been working hard and it was a beautiful shot. Oh, and Samuels-Thomas gets props for turning the playmaker tonight. 11/09/2009 - 4:10pm	Frustrating, Annoying, and Disheartening	"Other scenes from earlier this week...an adorable child in the row behind me at the Saturday Miami game screams "Mich-i-GAN" the whole game—which was cute the first 50 times." Let me tell ya, Brian, it wasn't fun having to listen to the Miami students next to us in Section 2. "Go MIAMI!" seemingly every minute, cheers that were very original (if this were Yost circa 1991), getting hyped up about line changes and Reichard covering the puck, and not a damn thing that Michigan could do on the ice to shut them up.
11/08/2009 - 11:30am	Pessimistic? I'd say you're	Pessimistic? I'd say you're spot on, if not a bit overly optimistic there. Last night left a lot to be desired, and exposed plenty of flaws with this team. It's still early, but looking at the schedule, they don't have the luxury of time to figure it out. That's what the last month was supposed to be for.
11/07/2009 - 12:13am	Officiating	The calls on those reviews were legit. The puck never crossed the line, and AJ directed the other with his foot. The were several calls and non-calls alike that I wasn't impressed with, but I find it hard to say the officiating was pure garbage. Embellishment and Diving are actually two separate calls. Diving is called when a player attempts to draw a penalty when no infraction has actually occurred. That player is issued a minor penalty, and given that no offense actually occurred, is the only penalty issued on the play. Embellishment is issued when an infraction actually occurs, yet the 'victim' of the call helps it along a little. Two penalties are issued, one for the actual offense, and one for the embellishment. The penalties offset and the result is even-strength play.

09/29/2009 - 11:40pm	Cohesiveness	As mentioned previously, I think the biggest component missing from the student section as of late is cohesiveness. The left hand needs to do a better job working in concert with the right hand... just look at the dueling cowbells as an example. I think you two certainly have your hearts in the right place, I just don't think that an organized student advocacy is necessarily the right choice. This holds especially true if you intend to use the AD as a resource (they'll probably just use you). Seek help from the Dekers for organizing road trips, and use social networking avenues to publicize them. My best suggestion is pretty simple: stress the basics and just be loud, outspoken members of your respective sections. Get your neighbors into it. Work with those who seem to be the leaders of the other sections. Use your heads, and don't condone things obviously gone awry (the "Ref You Suck" chant after every penalty). If you can find a way to bring back some of the wit that has been missing, and get both sides of the student section working in concert again, I think you've succeeded in bringing back some of the missing luster, and continuing the Yost tradition as one of the most intimidating rinks in college hockey. As a season ticket holder on the other side of the ice, I look forward to the results of your efforts. Good luck.
09/06/2009 - 8:12pm	Realism	Anyone posting 13-0 predictions shouldn't qualify that as "overly optimistic". The subject should aptly be titled "Insane" or "OMG UNDEFEATED FTFW!!!!!1" so we all know what's coming and can choose to read or bypass at our leisure. 7-5 or 8-4 are still very valid predictions. If that makes reasonable people "non-believers", then I guess a lot of us have much to learn about how football seasons are won in week 1.
