I'm actually aware of that. My point was that posters shouldn't worry about observing supposedly strict rules but should try to communicate clearly. I suppose I wasn't clear about that and thus violated my own maxim.

But I don't think the militant grammarians on the site are saying anybody is better or worse because of grammar. The point is not to have perfect grammar, but just to write well enough that:
1. You communicate your thoughts relatively painlessly; and
2. Our (or "are" for those at whom this post is targeted) fanbase doesn't look completely illiterate.
In other words, split infinitives are acceptable, unhinged non-English is not.
So you could turn yourself in for writing "would of?"

This Ben Johnson thing gets thrown around a lot, so I feel obligated to point out that the timing on that run started at the gun, whereas 40's (even at the NFL combine) are timed from the moment the player moves. I'm not sure what average reaction time is (to the gun), but it is this that makes it conceivable that a (seriously fast) football player might clock a better time than Mr. Johnson. Which, by the way, Chris Johnson did.
Nevertheless, your initial point, which is that high school 40 times cannot be trusted, is right on the mark.
I believe RR has mentioned that Gordon is one of the best athletes in the class. This could be boilerplate coach talk, but it bodes better than the party line on Englemon - the dreaded smart player label that generally indicates a lack of athleticism.
Christina got the top job with the Council of Economic Advisors. This is the bigger news. But David is also in an influential position with an important public policy group. My post was probably misleading: the group David heads is not officially part of the administration, but is an independent group that the government's economists often take very seriously.
