He could easily decide that staying close to home at a strong program, getting developed for the NFL vs much better talent, at a better school (who knows he might come to actually care about that), and with more TV exposure is what is more important.

I really like that he was a DC and DL. Coaches who can better understand/picture what the entire defense is doing in relation to their own group are where it's at.
I don't see it as risky at all. The guy knows how to build a team and how to coach and teach. That's miles better than what we just had. Plus, Michigan basketball will always be second fiddle to Michigan football and he's the type of person who doesn't care about not getting all the sports attention.
If true that really sucks for him. I hope it's not too severe and easily repaied. And even if he's not full speed until mid-October then that's still half a season.
IMO there's simply too much cross-pollination of ideas and time spent with so many different coaches and systems these days for May (or nearly anyone) to be considered part of a coaching tree.
Agreed about much of what you wrote but FFS just stop with the excuses for Howard. Howard created the so-called perfect storm of "bad breaks" by his own damn self through mainly horrible coaching and piss-poor roster building/player development.
And if his heart issues kept him from being all that he could be, then that's also on him for not taking a medical leave of absence.
And in defense of Davis from the Memphis game, he was pretty clearly fouled by being hit/grabbed (and likely also tripped) and the refs swallowed their whistles.

There is no way any of our current players have ever been coached (or be made to practice) how to do close-outs like on that video.
