Starting to think it's Miles. The Harbaugh stars require too much alignment but then again, spookier things happened - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8634018

this is awesome.

this whole thing has a very 'careful what you wish for' feel to it.
The greatest gift that Michigan Football was ever given was Yost having the stadium capacity go above 100K. You want to hire AD's that emphasize balance and have a football team that goes 7-5/8-4 every year? Good luck getting above 80K at a game then. What do you see in the college football landscape that suggests balance in any form? We are at full tilt at this point.
I have a feeling that Schissel is annoyed with all fuss coming from athletics. He said all the right things last Friday, but the feeling get coming from is 'this is a huge waste of time'. The guy is no dummy though, he understands that the current and future donors come from a share culutural bond through athletics. Here's the thing though - I don't think he _believes_ it, like you and the other alums do. He believes over the course of 25-30 years they can maintain fundraising while athletics slowly becomes mediocre over the course of natural reasons (bad hires/things not panning out). Northwestern still has a ~$8 billion endowment without athletics being such a big deal. That's what they're aiming for.
Again though, the stadium saves us - in order to keep that thing from being below 80K, they need a decent product.

for whatever reason when I am in a certain mood I reference certain thoughts/feelings I once had from various pop culture.
This is what I have for this week - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeNBJ5o-b7s
|5 weeks 2 days ago||I was wrong||
and it sucks. I deeply love Michigan Football. I thought they would go 10-2 this year.
some fun facts - I actually worked with a member of staff during the 2010-2013 seasons. I was there for every practice in 2010. I actually couldn't tell you anything based on practices on a week to week basis and I watch a decent amount of football every week on TV. After that, I only helped out on home gamedays only. I never attended any team/position meetings but inside Schembechler was rather mundane - it truly is just the coaches in the office most of the time. I did posit some high level analysis at one point but it was never pushed up - 'they won't read it'. The GA's are mostly doing the gruntwork on combing over scouting reports/formations/etc - this then gets passed along to the coaches. The coaches do a brief amount of scouting on their own as well, together as a group. I think the GA's read MGoBlog.
It was kinda neat being on the inside but I mostly kept to myself - I'm a pretty nerdy guy and didn't want to look out of place more than what I already was.

Don't get too excited. I have a feeling it's going to be a while yet. It's in motion, but nothing happens fast.

college football is much, much different since the last time we were elite (2006)

|7 weeks 4 days ago||Absolutely||
I am super pissed this morning. This is not 'Leaders and Best', this is absolute bullshit.
Does anyone on this football team hate to lose? Like, really hate to lose? Because when I lost games in highschool I would shake hands then I really didn't want to talk to anyone.
I see players laughing and conversing after the game. I don't get it.
|7 weeks 4 days ago||You have to look at longer||
You have to look at longer arcs of time. Notre Dame finally has stability after 20 years. Will it take that long? Who knows. But we have the one thing that can at least buy you time while you go through 5 or 6 hands over a decade or two - proud alumni with a shitload of money. Ross may be rich, but he can't subsidize 40-50K empty seats a week.

|8 weeks 2 days ago||we have different timelines||
we have different timelines then as to when we think Hoke will be let go.
we're not the ones making the decision, Brandon is. Brandon will delay until he can't. I think the rationale that Brandon will give to the regents/president will be - look, I want Hoke gone too, but I've conferred with this search firm and even they say that options we have a replacement aren't very good...Oh and I've raised a ton of money for you guys, I want this to get better but we have to stay the course because if we get this wrong, we're just going to be doing this again in 3 or 4 years, just like the span from 2007 to 2010.
|8 weeks 2 days ago||1) the pool is bad, this is||
1) the pool is bad, this is not in dispute
2) non-zero probability that the pool will be better next year
3) allows them to delay an embarassing decision
this isn't a belief, it's an observation. You're right, there is a greater probability that the coaches available next year won't meet that slam dunk hire criteria either. But for the reasons stated above, this is why the AD will decide to not fire him, unless the sub-80K attendance thing happens.
I hope I'm wrong too, but unfortunately this plays out the way I described above.
|8 weeks 2 days ago||simple||
I don't know if it's going to be deeper next year but in the absence of a solid option, they'll keep him. We have a for sure thing today (bad pool) to delay in the hope of a better pool tomorrow and it spares us the embarrassment (_their_ embarassment, the AD. The AD doesn't care how you feel, unless it impacts the money) of the firing a coach for another day. This kind of how, you know, our government works as well. Not saying this is how things _should_ be done, it's just how things are.
The AD will wait until the very last moment or if it's a complete and total collapse that brings seating down to below 80K for multiple consecutive games, like I originally said. This is the only series of events that will yield us a new coach in 2014.
It has to hit them where it hurts - money from attendance. It's already bad, but it's got to be 'stadium quarter empty even with tickets being given away bad' for something to happen.
|8 weeks 2 days ago||I agree with his sentiment||
that Brandon is in self preservation mode and Hoke is a dead man walking. Doesn't mean I expect either of them to be leaving anytime soon.
|8 weeks 2 days ago||thank you||
this guy gets it.
|8 weeks 2 days ago||You guys are setting yourself up for disappointment||
Much like the post-2010 season coaching search.
Nothing happens fast and there has been _zero_ indication that the AD is willing to pay big (10 milion for head coach along with OC/DC) to get a winner. They'll get someone for 3 or 4 million, he may or may not work out.
This isn't an intellectual arguement - this has happened now, once. It's about to happen again in a year.
|8 weeks 2 days ago||Absolutely nothing is going to happen||
to Brandon or Hoke until attendence dips below 80K, for multiple consecutive games. Until then you can keep dreaming. The timeline that MGoBlog and Twitter think this is all going to happen is laughable. It's going to take at least a year, at the earliest. I would say two years.
Hoke is going to be around for 2015 because the coaching talent pool is shallow and we need a slam dunk hire. If this was a good year for coaching replacements, it might happen this year, but that's not the case.
|8 weeks 3 days ago||where are you citing that from||
I'd like to read that.
|8 weeks 3 days ago||Serious coaches require serious money||
We're not serious unless we actually start playing the game that the rest of the top programs are - $10 million/year for coach and the OC/DC. I am skeptical that Michigan is willing to spend that kind of money, even though the donor base is one of the few rich enough to bank roll it. They don't want to seem desperate, but they aren't flashing the cash to bring the big names in. That's another barrier we need to pass. Let's not kid ourselves here - this is a business, there is no such thing as amateur athletics anymore.
|8 weeks 3 days ago||too late||
These changes needed to made at the end of the 2013 season for there to have been any hope for Hoke. At this point though, the situation is too toxic.

You will probably get snarky responses, but I really do appreciate the work that goes into this research. Probably the only thing I enjoy reading on this site as of late
|9 weeks 3 days ago||this||
let me add -
- shot put throws on snaps in which we had good protection, total breakdown in mechanics. you can't even call it mechanics, its just flinging it
- both underthrowing and overthrowing multiple times
- locking onto the receiver
|9 weeks 3 days ago||is this true?||
like rabackable true?
if so, he's still got a thing for Michigan. Wouldn't be in his contract if it wasn't.
