they use Hudl outside the football building. They have all the tools they need to study outside of the meetings if they're willing to put the time in.

Okay, let me send this report to Bolivia - I can't say too much but let's just say I supported the war effort from 2010-2013.
Internally, the team uses a piece of software called XOS Thunder, which combines the two endzone shots and 50yd line shot for each and every play. The team uses this in position/team meetings - 99% of college football teams also use this same piece of software.
Outside of Schembechler Hall the players have access to a service called Hudl - Hudl is available on iOS/Android, although most players use this on their laptops. It takes the same video ingested into XOS and makes it available through the web via a modern (IE11/Chrome/Safari) browser. The same video is available for the players to review on their own time, outside of the football building.
Although Hudl on iOS/Android is a great app (Hudl itself was founded by some Nebraska software guys and a former Microsoft executive from Nebraska), the web interface on a laptop is 100x better. This is why the players don't have iPads.

My hope is that he is looking at this through the lens of his life's arc - he's here because of a very few important years under Bo. It's time he repaid the favor for the next generation.
Sure, he could potentially have another shot at this in 4-7 years, but that puts him in his mid/late 50s...who knows what his life will be like at point. Or there may never be another shot at this due to timing.
All I know is that if he doesn't come here at this point, it's because he flat turned it down. All locks on the doors are removed - he just has to walk through the door.

reminds me of Krang from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
I'll take a wait and see approach. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for keeping a low profile thus far.
Most fans should not know who the AD is. Having an AD as a subject in the conversation means you have department/coaching troubles. Can we avoid that for a decade or so?

Starting to think it's Miles. The Harbaugh stars require too much alignment but then again, spookier things happened - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8634018

this whole thing has a very 'careful what you wish for' feel to it.
The greatest gift that Michigan Football was ever given was Yost having the stadium capacity go above 100K. You want to hire AD's that emphasize balance and have a football team that goes 7-5/8-4 every year? Good luck getting above 80K at a game then. What do you see in the college football landscape that suggests balance in any form? We are at full tilt at this point.
I have a feeling that Schissel is annoyed with all fuss coming from athletics. He said all the right things last Friday, but the feeling get coming from is 'this is a huge waste of time'. The guy is no dummy though, he understands that the current and future donors come from a share culutural bond through athletics. Here's the thing though - I don't think he _believes_ it, like you and the other alums do. He believes over the course of 25-30 years they can maintain fundraising while athletics slowly becomes mediocre over the course of natural reasons (bad hires/things not panning out). Northwestern still has a ~$8 billion endowment without athletics being such a big deal. That's what they're aiming for.
Again though, the stadium saves us - in order to keep that thing from being below 80K, they need a decent product.

|9 weeks 3 days ago||I was wrong||
and it sucks. I deeply love Michigan Football. I thought they would go 10-2 this year.
some fun facts - I actually worked with a member of staff during the 2010-2013 seasons. I was there for every practice in 2010. I actually couldn't tell you anything based on practices on a week to week basis and I watch a decent amount of football every week on TV. After that, I only helped out on home gamedays only. I never attended any team/position meetings but inside Schembechler was rather mundane - it truly is just the coaches in the office most of the time. I did posit some high level analysis at one point but it was never pushed up - 'they won't read it'. The GA's are mostly doing the gruntwork on combing over scouting reports/formations/etc - this then gets passed along to the coaches. The coaches do a brief amount of scouting on their own as well, together as a group. I think the GA's read MGoBlog.
It was kinda neat being on the inside but I mostly kept to myself - I'm a pretty nerdy guy and didn't want to look out of place more than what I already was.

Don't get too excited. I have a feeling it's going to be a while yet. It's in motion, but nothing happens fast.

I am super pissed this morning. This is not 'Leaders and Best', this is absolute bullshit.
Does anyone on this football team hate to lose? Like, really hate to lose? Because when I lost games in highschool I would shake hands then I really didn't want to talk to anyone.
I see players laughing and conversing after the game. I don't get it.
|11 weeks 4 days ago||You have to look at longer||
You have to look at longer arcs of time. Notre Dame finally has stability after 20 years. Will it take that long? Who knows. But we have the one thing that can at least buy you time while you go through 5 or 6 hands over a decade or two - proud alumni with a shitload of money. Ross may be rich, but he can't subsidize 40-50K empty seats a week.

|12 weeks 2 days ago||we have different timelines||
we have different timelines then as to when we think Hoke will be let go.
we're not the ones making the decision, Brandon is. Brandon will delay until he can't. I think the rationale that Brandon will give to the regents/president will be - look, I want Hoke gone too, but I've conferred with this search firm and even they say that options we have a replacement aren't very good...Oh and I've raised a ton of money for you guys, I want this to get better but we have to stay the course because if we get this wrong, we're just going to be doing this again in 3 or 4 years, just like the span from 2007 to 2010.
|12 weeks 2 days ago||1) the pool is bad, this is||
1) the pool is bad, this is not in dispute
2) non-zero probability that the pool will be better next year
3) allows them to delay an embarassing decision
this isn't a belief, it's an observation. You're right, there is a greater probability that the coaches available next year won't meet that slam dunk hire criteria either. But for the reasons stated above, this is why the AD will decide to not fire him, unless the sub-80K attendance thing happens.
I hope I'm wrong too, but unfortunately this plays out the way I described above.
