if you are in Tokyo on the 30th of March, the michigan alumni club will be participating in the intercollegiate hanami (cherry blossom viewing party) at Komaba Park. there should be a number of ex-pat  and other Wolverines there, including myself. Info here: Facebook

this is a great resource for wolverines in or visiting japan. definitely recommend reaching out to them (Paul is very helpful).

were you the guy in line…

were you the guy in line behind me at immigration at narita on the way back? i was in a sainristil jersey. you said your plane on the way there got diverted to san antonio or something right? go blue.

as an alum of the university…

as an alum of the university, you would think he should have to recuse himself from anything michigan related on the COI. but maybe the COI models its ethics rules after SCOTUS.

Looking for four (4) tickets to the OSU game. Hoping to pay around 400-500 each but willing to negotiate. Behind Michigan sideline would be my dream spot but am flexible.

Email is eomea6 at icloud dot com.

Law school alum visiting from Japan and bringing my wife, uncle and cousin to their first ever Michigan game. Go blue from Tokyo!

repost from big ten champ game ticket thread:

i am considering going to the national championship game if we are so fortunate to get there. i've already booked a refundable plane ticket from tokyo to LA and finding a place to stay shouldn't be a problem. if we lose, i'll cancel my flights and get my money back. however, game tickets are a bit trickier.

question is whether i purchase the actual ticket to the game now, or wait until after the semifinals are contested (assuming we win our game). i know this is sort of unchartered territory for michigan fans, but any advice based on prior experiences would be most welcome!

his wife also had a tweet recently that seemed like a thinly veiled goodbye and thank you to the michigan family. along with the other smoke, this sounds like a fait accompli.

i live in tokyo japan. as…

i live in tokyo japan. as you can imagine, its pretty rare to see college gear here of any kind. occasionally you will see notre dame, sometimes michigan or ucla / berkley gear that is sold in second hand shops and picked up by japanese hipsters. they almost always choose this gear for the color combinations rather than any sort of affinity (or even awareness) of the underlying school. i've stopped a few of these hipsters before when ive spotted them in michigan gear and they always look at me like im nuts and have no idea what to do/say when i start yelling 'go blue' at them. ive stopped doing that.

anyway, the day of the michigan msu game i was engaging in my usual pre-game routine listening to podcasts and reading about the game in the comfort of my apartment. the noon games start at 1am or 2am sunday morning here (depending on daylight savings) so there is quite a bit of day to kill before the actual game. after about three hours of winding myself up via mgopodcast, sam webb and the victors board, i was getting too stressed out and decided to take a walk over to the new olympic stadium to get my mind off the game looming later that day. my apartment is in the middle of town (near shibuya for those who know tokyo), but its on a quiet street off of a main thoroughfare. its primarily residential and there is little foot traffic. its pretty rare to see more than one or two people on that street at a time and i cant remember ever seeing anyone in recognizable college gear on my street in the nearly two years ive lived at this address. however, as i stepped out of my apartment's front entrance the day of top-5 match-up, the first person i see is a young japanese man wearing a white and green msu crewneck sweatshirt right in front of my apartment. perhaps it would have been forgivable or gone unnoticed if he had just been walking or otherwise out of my eye shot, but no, he was stopped right in front of my apartment adjusting his baby who he was pushing around in his stroller, and was positioned such that he was all but presenting the monogram 'michigan state' on his sweatshirt towards my direction. it was as if he had been specifically placed there by the michigan-hating football gods to exert maximum psychic damage on my BPONE'd soul. he did not look like an msu grad (he had a dignified air and relatable disposition) and i suspect if i asked him about the shirt he would have no idea about its significance (see above). instead i just scowled at him for this most improbable, absurd slight (of which he was entirely oblivious).

i had a pit in my stomach walking around after that and kept thinking back on the chances of that happening and how so much had to go 'right' for our paths to cross at that critical moment ahead of the the game. had he (or i) been a few minutes late/early, or if he had taken a different street, or just chosen a different sweatshirt that day, maybe my confidence wouldn't have been shook and maybe just maybe jj doesnt fumble the snap or maybe sparty bob doesn't takeover the replay booth. i ponder that sequence often when thinking back on the msu game - where everything that had to go perfectly right for MSU to win ultimately did, and am in awe of the universe's cruel sense of humor.

i went on high alert after that and ahead of the osu game i opted not to go outside at all and holed up inside all day out of fear of running into some scarlet and grey on the tokyo streets. it paid off.

tokyo resident here. going…

tokyo resident here. going to wake up early to the team hotel to watch the team bus send off for the gold medal match. any good sign/poster ideas?

im all for this. rub their…

im all for this. rub their faces in it. the more absurd this little brother refrain becomes with comments like this, it will lose its mystique and utility as a motivator for those clowns.

someone on here last week…

someone on here last week posted a website that had an awesome and easy to read matrix of the broadcast times / stations for all games. i seem to have lost it. if anyone remembers that link and can share would appreciate it!

lets also not forget that…

lets also not forget that keeping wildlife, um... an amphibious rodent, for... um, ya know domestic... within the city... that ain't legal either.

i get that brian is trying to maximize his ad revenue in time for one of the site's most heavily trafficked days (NSD), but not having a viable backup was extremely short-sighted. i'd be peeved too if an unaffiliated app was siphoning my page views, but the official app is an unmitigated disaster and to force us moble users back to that the night before signing day is just asking for outrage....

unless of course this was all a clever ploy to either (i) pressure the official app developer to do what brian has been paying him to do, or (ii) lay the groundwork to announce a round of crowd-funding for an updated app.

not seoul, but im in tokyo

not seoul, but im in tokyo and the alumni group here is hosting (along with the osu alumni group) a game watch at a bar so its not unheard of. might be worth looking up the alumni groups on facebook to see if anything similar is happening in seoul. check out osu alumni groups as a last resort.

i suck with this embed stuff. sorry guys.

this just reeks of

this just reeks of manufactured 'disrespekt' for mork to get his players and the rest of sparty nation all affronted for their big game against osu this weekend - guarantee you the msu SID guy fed that reporter the 'question'

if in the pressbox as media:

if in the pressbox as media: do not wear anything proclaiming an allegiance to the competing teams or any other college team apparel (pro apparel might be okay, but still not seen as professional - i would never do it.) working often in the yankee stadium pressbox, i seldom - if ever - saw yankee beat writers wearing yankee gear.  if you are wearing a jersey or any michigan apparel, and are there to work, most of the other writers are likely going to think either.

a) you're some writer's cousin who he brought up to the pressbox to silently observe (see below) or

b) you work for michigan SID or michigan stadium event crew.

cheering or clapping of any sort is also looked down upon and is seen as uncouth - you and everyone else in there are there to do a job, emotions should be checked at the door (or channeled into your writing) i worked in broadcast media for major league baseball for four seasons, and mlb/ teams have a policy not to permit rightsholders/press from wearing team apparel and were pretty serious about it. i never worked in college football/sports but i can't imagine its any different.

believe it or not most members of the press, even if they came into their job as passionate fans (as i was with baseball), are jaded assholes who cant wait to write their story and go home, and certainly won't appreciate such unprofessional appearance in the pressbox. they have likely been at the stadium from 6am if not earlier, and by gametime after so many cups of coffee and shitty stadium cafeteria food, you are ready to get the fuck out of the stadium. but make no mistake, behind those judgmental frowns being cast your way, a jealous envy of your vibrant passion festers.

if you're a fan just 'observing' from the pressbox, you'll probably look like a doofus and very much out of place in a jersey but its not per se forbidden in the absence of a specific regulation. a michigan polo or the like would be much much better, but you still may be confused for some michigan athletics staff/runner.

im in santiago for the summer

im in santiago for the summer and have made it to three matches; Chile really seemed to gel during that game against Bolivia, and if they make it past Uruguay they should be in the final.  Brazil looked more fluid yesterday than they did against Colombia, and without Neymar no less (it was awesome to see him dominated by Sanchez and then suspended in the game against Colombia).  My money is on a Argentina-Chile final.

i wonder if this is a ploy by

i wonder if this is a ploy by harbaugh to gather bulletin board material from rival fans, etc.

saw someone on campus yesterday wearing a very official looking under-armour michigan boxing track jacket.  not sure if those are one-offs for the boxing team kinda like the reebok stuff for hockey, but it gives me hope. looked pretty slick.
