We lost the first 3 to Penn state, which had a bye week before their game with us, for the first four years of the series. We won the 1,000th game in Penn state history, at Happy Valley. Highlight was stopping them 4 straight on first and goal. Somewhere in there, he said: This is Michigan, and you'd better tend to your knitting." |

I have sat near the top of the stadium for years and like that view. If arriving earlier for the game is a problem for you because it cuts into your drinking time, your issue is not your view of the game. |

All college degrees are not created equal, especially for athletes across DI hoop programs. Is that underwater basket weaving degree worth, how many NBA years? Not sure how you can account for the actual value of the different degrees as a variable. There was a recent post on all the UM grads playing in Europe. Young, traveling, making good money. And with a degree. Agents have little to lose by pushing players to declare. There are only the 60 guys who get drafted, the agent get better odds of having a client drafted if he gets 20 to jump than 10, and ten is better than five. But if 120 declare, or 60, only 60 are getting drafted, so the risk is on the players' side, and the advice comes from the guy with no financial risk. It is very difficult not to believe someone telling you how good you are, at something you have worked all your life to be good at. |

with diary on this topic later. For now, both my daughters started watching games in utero. #1 has three degrees from UM and works on fixing Detroit. #2 loves horses, so degree in equine science from U. Kentucky. Lloyd Carr was the third most influential adult in their lives, after Mom and Dad. Not just watching the games but attending the football busts and hearing the seniors describe their experience. Brady continues the tradition, and John Beilen is a great coach and a better man. We are blessed with great leaders who run programs that can inspire our children. |
| 6 weeks 5 hours ago | depends how you count Championships |
as on older, uh, more mature, poster, the losses hurt me LESS. I was sitting in the ND stands when Oliver kicked that FG at my face. I just got back from driving to Atlanta yesterday for the game. That was the best played college basketball game I have seen in person. It just wasn't meant to be. I count Red's 2 hockey championships, and, if you want heartbreak, go back through the OT and triple OT and disallowed goal playoff losses. I sat with a Kansas fan last nite, still recovering. Indiana AND Wisconsin beat us twice. But go back to Kansas guy's post a month or so ago about having great teams lose, almost annually. We left it all on the court, the team and coaching staff represented the U extremely well. What more can you ask? |
| 6 weeks 2 days ago | meaning of the spread |
Vegas spreads are NOT based on what they think the margin will be, but where the money will go. They don't want the money 50/50 on each side. Spread moves when money comes in heavy on one side. So, the money, and most of the media, continue to underestimate us. Cool. |

| 6 weeks 3 days ago | Webber |
the 4 other players being Taylor, Bullock, and the other post Fab Five? Webber took bad legal advice. One of the first things I was told about criminal defense, if your client is subpoenaed to testify before a grand jury, tell him/her to take the 5th amendment unless offered immunity. There is nothing criminal about accepting gifts from people. NCAA rules are not criminal laws. Webber's criminal issue was lying to the grand jury. What is the definition of "booster?" Martin's gifts were not conditional on attending U of M. He gave money to kids who went to Misourri, among other places. Someone told me - hearsay - that the US Attorney on the Ed Martin case was a Notre Dame alum who dragged it out to hurt UM. Anyway, let's revel in the accomplishments of the current team. |

Most of us don't like conditions that, if others knew, would make them pity us, or, consider us stupid. I am ADHD, which I was the last to know. Everyone around me figured it out first. Sort of. It is NOT a disability, or, to me, a disorder, I use the initials so people know what I am talking about. Being, for unknown reasons, othewise considered a smart person, it puzzles people when I leave the water running for hours, or lock the keys in the car with the engine running. How could I be so stupid? Well, it is what it is. Which is, not much, considering the thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to. As the comments reflect, it is the human condition to have challenges. It is our calling to help each other with them. There is always a risk in sharing our vulnerability, but that is frequently when others can find out how they can help us. What a great family you must have! In posting this, you have given us readers a chance to show that we stand with you, we will keep you in our prayers, yet, we will not lower our expectations for your performance. Go Blue! |

I am told by a UM friend from Wenley House days that the official who made the call was on a sports radio show in Indiana, when he admitted he made the call just because he did not like Shembechler. I was at the phantom TD Rose Bowl. Ah, but who remembers such things after all these years. :) |
| 10 weeks 8 hours ago | great post |
It was not meant to be. Woulda coulda shoulda. If intentional foul called on GRIII dunk, he still might have missed, we could have turned it over, IU could have hit threes. I am all in for UM, but, I would have left our guys on the lane for the last free throw. Which does not mean we would have secured the rebound. Per earlier Kansas fan post, this is the pain you get for loving your team. I am proud of their performance; they left it all on the court. That is all I can really ask. |

excusing the officiating when you did not watch the game. I relaxes when we were up by 15, looking for a 20 plus point blowout. I think Penn State is used to trailing by 15 or more, so it had no effect on them. They kept playing hard. We did not. |
| 11 weeks 5 days ago | bad officiating |
I think it is safe to say the officiating was bad when the same play is a charge on us when we have the ball but a block on us when they have the ball. Did it cost us the game? Possibly. Is that an acceptable excuse? Of course not. Trey's worse game handling the ball, Albrecht seemed to turn it over more often than he touched it, anyone can hit open threes. I did not notice horrible calls until the game was close. |

Having read it, good, but, he cites many examples of things that were not checkable as if they correlate to the Teo story. The standout Teo facts were: that a student by that name enrolled at Stanford, her death records. Checking requires more work. It is always easier to take someone's word for it. |

| 18 weeks 6 days ago | Red |
left early, had the radio on, seemed to be filling lots of time before getting Red on, I assumed he had to get himself under control. What blowouts? Every year is a new team. I see no gradual decline. There were some titles lost to bad officiating, blah blah blah. This team sucks; I see no reason to extrapolate that into the program sliding into the 9th circle of hell. |
| 19 weeks 1 day ago | conspiracy/turnovers |
Thanks for the analysis. I 100% subscribe to the conspiracy theory, and believe it affected him at times in 2011. On turnovers, they are mainly luck, and, as the statisticians say, reversion to the mean is to be expected. I think it is Phil Steele who pegs this as the main determining factor in big changes in wins and losses season to season. |

Yes, and Iowa inflicted the only loss on Northern Illinois, 18-17, which weakened the perception of Iowa at the time. Bowl mis-matches should not be as bad as usual, with only one BCS team, Nebraska might be close to a push, or a slight underdog. It will still be uphill. |

| 25 weeks 2 days ago | I did attend |
It was a world of difference from my ten previous trips. Same 4 or 5 to 1 ratio of positive/polite comments to F bombs. After the game, someone did body check my 21 yr old daughter, behind me, but her ex-Marine boyfriend responded appropriately. We responded to verbal taunts by wishing them luck in their bowl game, against ND for the BCS title. walking across the bridge over the Olentangy, to the shuttle bus area, it was positively somber. They make more noise when they lose. I asked several people if it were just hitting them that the probation really cost them, but that was not cited by anyone. Yes, those B section tickets are tricky, looking around the posts. Oddly enough, after warning the ex-Marine boyfriend of what to expect from Buckeyes, a grievously over-served Wolverine fan sat next to me just before kickoff. Loud, obnoxious, bumping into people. He tossed his cookies in the second quarter and two of his friends escorted him out of the stadium. |

| 25 weeks 4 days ago | football in endzone |
I believe it was Virginia, 9-8-71, 56-0 UM win. We kicked off, the ball rolled into the end zone, the Virginia players stood around, a UM player fell on it for a TD. I think they changed the rule the next year to make that play a touchback. |

Yes, now, we make more money from the big networks - but we own the BTN. The future of TV is a la carte, not packages of hundreds of channels. How many of us watch the cooking shows? College sports is a continuous source of new content, with built in consumers, so will always have value. In terms of the large TV markets, any data on Notre Dame ratings in each region? Just wondering how to quantify the value of that allegedly "national" program.

Turnstile count was around 76,000, as Tigers were playing World Series game. So many were listening to that on the radio, that, when Trammel hit his second HR of the game, the crowd yelled, and the NW offense jumped prematurely, illegal procedure penalty. | 51 weeks 6 days ago | M replay |
before RR's first year, the show was replayed Friday nite, Brandy said that was supposed to be good for recruiting, high school players could watch it after their games. And that RR had young kids, unlike the prior coaches, and wanted to be with family after games. Bob is as good a friend as UM football has. He still produces the annual bust, and, if you ever worked with a non-profit volunteer group, that does one huge event per year, well, it is a lot of work to preside, and he is as described, ever gracious, down to earth, and, funny. |
| 1 year 1 week ago | time stamping entry |
As the father of a recent Masters UM grad (yeah, I bring up the average readership age all by my lonesome) have to disagree on keeping track of student time of arrival. They swap tickets with friends, and friends of friends, and the guy who may be there 30 minutes early goes to WMU and got the ticket from a student who is not even at the game. Back in the day, yeah, OK, way back, 1:30 kickoff allowed more time for students to, uh, recover from a long Friday nite of studies. The consistency of kickoff time allows for getting into a routine for game day. As of this writing, we have the kickoff time for exactly ONE home game. |
