the just released schedules were a flat-out statement that the B10 doesn't believe SOS will matter in playoff selection

| 1 week 1 day ago | Wish I could! |
Everything about this sounds great (especially the charity and the City BBQ), and I would normally be running on the Olentangy Trail on a Saturday, anyway, but that particular Saturday I'll be up in Grand Haven, er, getting married. Sounds like an awesome event, hope it goes really well! I'll pass this along to my Columbus frisbee friends, some of them seem like the triathlonning type. |
| 5 weeks 6 days ago | Go Shockers! |
This is why any team (WSU, 'Cuse, M) should hate the idea of playing L'ville. That guy in the corner of the floor is an emotional wild card. |
| 5 weeks 6 days ago | Staffing, probably |
[Full disclosure: my fiancée is an archivist] To expand a tiny bit on the general "priorities" suggestion that a couple other posters have already proffered, I'll point out that libraries and archives are not at their highest staffing levels ever, in the current political and economic climate. Some archivists have even been forced to move from Ann Arbor to Columbus just to find a job in their chosen field... So, the availability of staff to work on projects like updating new/constantly changing sports records is probably pretty low, and evidently this sort of thing gets put off until somebody can process a couple years' worth of stuff all at once. For more frequent updates, call your state representative and ask them to vote for more funding for libraries, museums, and archives — or even specifically for more positions at the Bentley! [okay that was pretty obvious. sorry.] |
| 6 weeks 2 days ago | I have been hearing about this strategy |
but Izzo is taking the "expect the worst and you won't be disappointed" plan a little bit too far. I do have a serious question about this piece, though: what the hell does all this mean? "Nobody will understand that I went through some times here where that'll never end until the day I'm dead. I downplayed it during the year, but it's just a fact of life." |
| 6 weeks 2 days ago | So Beileiny |
I'm not at all surprised to read that. It seems to me that the coaching staff would just not bother recruiting a guy who didn't recognize that his basketball talent gave him no license to behave badly. That can only help the team in terms of limiting bad press, improving team chemistry, and even increasing player retention. All of it adds up to a team and staff that is amazingly fun and easy to cheer for! (By way of contrast, my soon-to-be-father-in-law has to hold his nose every time he cheers for his Buckeyes football team, now.) Thanks for posting; it just keeps getting better! |
| 6 weeks 2 days ago | Michigan 81, Syracuse 54 |
Since Syracuse is just a little bit lower than Florida at Defense, and several spots lower at Offense. Go Blue! Beat citrus! |
| 6 weeks 3 days ago | Absolutely |
I would be all over this, although I couldn't make it until the final on Monday. I'll even drive up from Columbus for it! ...and also for work, which I do every month for one week in the office (I'm normally remote). |
| 6 weeks 4 days ago | Whoa |
Is glaring suit dude getting all up in front row trumpet guy's face? That's pretty intense but he doesn't seem to mind too much. |
| 9 weeks 1 day ago | Tonight's homework: |
Destroy all backboards. (And learn to sell hard fouls on near-breakaways, for god's sake. I hate Wisconsin.) |
| 9 weeks 5 days ago | Good Question |
Burke especially! He 'posed to be POY, and he can't deliver in the big spots. That missed front-end must make him something like 6-7 in the last minute, between this Sunday and last Sunday!
Oh. |
| 10 weeks 1 day ago | The announcer thought so |
But I thought maybe Izzo was just really relieved to see Payne stand up after that King Kong fall on or around his brainbox. I know I thought he was in bad shape when he first crumpled. |
| 12 weeks 3 days ago | Looking good for the best possible outcome |
MSU win that they couldn't have gotten without copious help from the zebras. There have been some joker-ass calls down the stretch here.
Edit: Maybe Sparty needs a little bit more than copious help. Ah, well. |
| 12 weeks 5 days ago | Which town/park? |
I've been wondering. The downtown Detroit one with the Fort St sign is obvious enough, but I don't know where that park is. |
| 12 weeks 5 days ago | Heavy Rob showed up today |
Hope this helps him and the team feel confident about those plays against tougher teams, too. |
| 14 weeks 1 day ago | 74 - 69 |
Michigan wins (as long as State doesn't get bailed out on every 2nd half miss by a series of ridiculous "lookin'-at-funny" fouls)! Haha - who is downvoting posts in this thread? Must be a slow morning. |
| 14 weeks 3 days ago | Tipped? |
I think the refs missed a foul on Burke, on that shot |
| 14 weeks 3 days ago | The McGary roll |
I count twice that Mitch has put up shots that didn't seem to have the requisite forward momentum, but they landed on the rim and rolled in. I mean, I'll take it -- just weird. |
| 15 weeks 1 day ago | That'd do it |
Yeah, I figured as much since that number is completely unreal. I was also trying to lampoon the terrible combo of Illinois "defense" and Breslin home cookin' that rewarded MSU with FTs on every 2nd half possession that might have involved a rebound. |
| 15 weeks 1 day ago | MSU shooting 87% in 2nd half? |
How does shooting %age work? If a ridiculously weak foul gets called, misses don't count against you? |
| 15 weeks 2 days ago | Even better |
Despite being a professional TV sports talker, he said "in Evanston" because he forgot Michigan already crushed Northwestern on their Kool-Aid-stained court. |
| 15 weeks 2 days ago | Michigan 81, IU 79 |
Kansas stays atop the Coaches' Poll because what? |
| 15 weeks 3 days ago | Rooting interest |
I mean, you're your own (uh, firearm?), so I wouldn't presume to tell you for whom you should be rooting. With that said, Brian's Opponent Watch recommending cheering ... against Wisconsin — presumably because these teams both have 2 losses in-conference and Michigan has to play at the Kohl Center while Wisconsin dodges a trip to Ann Arbor this year. |
| 17 weeks 4 days ago | Burke vs World |
Very good point about Burke's reaction to Craft/frustration/Columbus/etc. I feel like Trey was making decisions almost every time down the floor that he would never make at Crisler or against a random tough opponent. Maybe I don't normally watch for this, or maybe it looks different from 200 ft up in the 3rd level of Value City Arena, but he looked like he was trying out for the AND1 Mix-Tape Tour with some of the moves he was pulling out as he tried to take on Craft and cross him up. There was at least one early 3-pointer that Burke took from 4 or 5 ft past the arc that seemed like it was really forced and made you wonder how he ever gets any assists. Worst of all was the fast break where Burke had a blue jersey on either side of him and only Craft and one other (out-of-position) defender to deal with, but he ignored his two pass options and went straight at Craft, just to come away with nothing. It was one of the most unbelievable and upsetting things about yesterday's game, but hopefully it is also one of the biggest benefits of having a game like that in January. I can't imagine Beilein will let Trey turn into his own worst enemy like that again. |
| 18 weeks 2 days ago | Michigan 82, OSU 72 |
82-72, Michigan.
I will be in attendance, bedecked in ridiculous maize & blue argyle pants. I expect some hostility before all is said and done. |
| 21 weeks 4 days ago | Not bad |
Way to have better seats than an NBA team is getting for its scouts! |
| 25 weeks 3 days ago | ahh, memories |
I enjoyed this comment from a buckeye who apparently remembers things: "As much fun as that was to watch all it really did was piss Woodson the hell off and he had a monster game that helped him win the Heisman." That's what I think every time I see that little clip here in Columbus - which, if I'm not mistaken, includes the hype video they show at the start of home games at the Shoe. |
| 27 weeks 1 day ago | That would be ironic... |
seeing as the monument to O.H. Perry's victory - which doubles as the International Peace Memorial for US/Great Britain/Canada - is there. Ironic enough that I'm confident tempting fate and using the word "ironic" on the internet! |
| 30 weeks 6 days ago | Solid updating |
OP is delivering. Also coming up big: Cabrera spotting Swisher's misplay (must've been a misplay, right?) and scoring from second! |
| 37 weeks 8 hours ago | Gross |
Evil Dantonio smile after that TO came through. Eeurgh. |
| 40 weeks 2 days ago | True, but... |
The linked MLive article consistently got it wrong - 5 "Mack" mentions and 0 of "Mach" in that piece. I can forgive a non-Shamrock for taking an alleged news outlet at face value; I was doubting my memory myself. |
