It really was not that bad. I'm very surprised that this board, of all populations, doesn't appreciate the joke more.
Obviously Randy Moss had a fantastic, record-setting pro career, in addition to his unbelievable Motor City Bowl season at Marshall. But he didn't play for or against Michigan, his kid was not a prominent M recruiting target, and neither of them will have played for a team that Michigan is ever likely to face. The joke about losing to Woodson is the only thing that makes this relevant here (and it's also a funny faux-arrogant way to describe a HoF player).

My mom was on student council with him. I've never really heard that many stories about it, so maybe his passing should be the impetus for kind of a StoryCorps event.

Not to mention, the hills in his neighborhood (and on almost any 6-mile route through Ann Arbor) would take a lesser athlete down.
|39 weeks 6 days ago||You don't need to wonder||
Since the last play featured an obvious and non-controversial personal foul with the obvious result that MSU's fumble recovery and TD were called back, I'm just living my life as though Michigan did, in fact, win. If I were Brian and Ace, I would refer to MSU's record with a loss and/or an asterisk from now on for the rest of the season, and if I were any voter or observer of CFB, I would regard this game as a Michigan win and an MSU loss. It may prove to be confusing, but I also intend to maintain, for instance, that MSU hasn't won at the Big House since 2010 — hopefully to the consternation of my Spartan friends and acquaintances.
Obviously this is an unusual step, but since there is absolutely no extrapolation or prediction necessary and the call was so cut-and-dried, this is my plan.

|2 years 16 weeks ago||What if...||
Something I keep coming back to is the way things would have played out differently if Michigan had been up by 1 (as though, for instance, Caris LeVert's close 3-pointer had actually been counted for 3). Kentucky couldn't hold the ball for a guaranteed last (quality) shot if they were actually trailing rather than tied, and it seems pretty unlikely that they would have tried a 3 in that situation. I'm having a real hard time getting over the screwjob elements of that game.

|2 years 25 weeks ago||Guess that shoe dropped||
I'm not sure if this changes anything about the discussion of the allegations, since the Daily piece points out that everything important about the University's investigation is different from a criminal one (participation of victim, burden of proof, etc.). It reads like this case could literally have been reported by that axe-grinding professor, and the victim may not have participated in this investigation either, and the outcome is totally different because the rules are different.
Not that I don't think Gibbons probably did what he's accused of, and not that I don't think his expulsion is just and overdue; I just can't see the difference between what we *know* now and what we *knew* then. (I was disgusted and conflicted all season because I believed Gibbons was probably not innocent. Hasn't changed, in either direction of certainness.)
If we can talk about football as it relates to this nasty situation, I do find myself morbidly curious if this has anything to do with Gibbons's non-participation in the OSU game. Obviously the Daily article is just laying out everything of note that has happened with Gibbons lately, but there's a tiny bit of implication in mentioning that. The article mentions a document dated 11/20/13, so maybe the wheels had started turning already and Gibbons was sitting because of this? Would be crazy considering the effect that the kicking game could have had on the outcome.
|2 years 25 weeks ago||Beilein's goodwill||
It's about damned time Beilein got to cash in some of this accumulated goodwill. I'll never forget the 2012 game at Breslin when he got T'd up from 30 feet away for sticking his arms out and saying approximately 3 words. Naturally, this was in the middle of a standard 6th-man-of-the-play-award-winning performance by Izzo on the other end of the floor; the Izzo Show eventually drew a T, but hadn't yet when Beilein got his and the game was still potentially in reach.
T is very briefly shown at the very start of UMHoops's Five Key Plays from that 2012 game.

|2 years 37 weeks ago||Student section logistics question||
I didn't want to create a whole post about this, but: can any students answer a question about logistics with the new rules?
A friend is trying to go to the game in a group of 3, but is obviously having trouble finding 3 tickets together. He's thinking about getting 2 non-student tickets and 1 student ticket, and then borrowing a couple of the "section tickets" from neighbors in the student section so he can walk his friends in. Will that work? Are people generally friendly about that, or does the usher-student antipathy make everybody tight-fisted?
Also: love it, michiganman14. Definitely agree that the next 3 are totally winnable, and — despite our pessimistic sports fan perceptions — you can't count out any Michigan team in The Game. If the sane and logical reasons that make a win against OSU seem really unlikely were all there is to it, well, why would we even be fans? Go Blue!

I can't imagine a way to deliver a smothering-capable quantity of gasoline all at once, fast enough to prevent it from igniting (unless maybe just the bottom part of the gas can catch fire and the rest of it just keeps falling and smothers that bottom part?).
Anyway, like putting out an oil well fire with an explosion, it seems inadvisable to attempt this trick in the defensive backfield.

Pretty sure I know what you're talking about, since I was horrified watching that collision from my seat in the south end zone. I wasn't ready for the game to go on, although everybody else seemed to be. It looked awful, but when the net was righted, she stood right up and I saw her wave someone off in a clear "I'm fine" gesture — must've just been tangled if she wasn't moving at first. I was amazed but delighted to see it; maybe the net frame isn't as heavy as the Lacrosse goal it looks like.
|2 years 45 weeks ago||Outliers||
I don't specifically remember it, but I believe that's true; that was certainly an exceptional game.
I also believe, and have mgocommented about it at some point, that the "You Suck" chant was born (and should have been laid immediately to rest - perhaps with occasional revivals) at that game. Rare is the confluence of [game that is so well in hand that we can chant You Suck] + [team we hate enough that we would chant You Suck in such a situation instead of feeling sorry for them or thinking, "hey, thanks for letting us keep this Jug" or something like that]. It's just mean to chant You Suck at Baby Seal U, and it's just dumb to chant it when a team's about to go for it on 4th and/or could still beat us.
So, er, what I mean to say is, there are exceptional games even in rivalries, and the appropriate reactions to them should be exceptions. Not that I thought you disagreed with that in the first place. (Did the students still chant "You Suck" on Saturday? Sounded like they might be, but it was pretty faint from Section 13.)

|2 years 50 weeks ago||Pretty much||
It was John U. Bacon, in the chapter of 3&O where he follows Denard for a day (p. 360, for those of you following at home).
At 10:34, they finally walked out of Schembechler Hall for the last time that day. Normally they would be coming out of the Academic Center, but somehow two middle-aged men carrying a stack of glossy photos figured out where they were and approached Robinson the moment he walked outside to sign their photos of him. It was all for charity, of course, or their ten-year-old kids—they claimed both at various times—so Robinson autographed one each, then said, "That's it, man," and got into Gardner's pickup.
So I don't think the presence of 2 Lewan items, or even a dozen Braxton Miller items, really means all that much.
|2 years 50 weeks ago||So now we know||

|3 years 15 weeks ago||Staffing, probably||
[Full disclosure: my fiancée is an archivist]
To expand a tiny bit on the general "priorities" suggestion that a couple other posters have already proffered, I'll point out that libraries and archives are not at their highest staffing levels ever, in the current political and economic climate. Some archivists have even been forced to move from Ann Arbor to Columbus just to find a job in their chosen field...
So, the availability of staff to work on projects like updating new/constantly changing sports records is probably pretty low, and evidently this sort of thing gets put off until somebody can process a couple years' worth of stuff all at once. For more frequent updates, call your state representative and ask them to vote for more funding for libraries, museums, and archives — or even specifically for more positions at the Bentley!
[okay that was pretty obvious. sorry.]

|3 years 16 weeks ago||So Beileiny||
I'm not at all surprised to read that. It seems to me that the coaching staff would just not bother recruiting a guy who didn't recognize that his basketball talent gave him no license to behave badly. That can only help the team in terms of limiting bad press, improving team chemistry, and even increasing player retention. All of it adds up to a team and staff that is amazingly fun and easy to cheer for! (By way of contrast, my soon-to-be-father-in-law has to hold his nose every time he cheers for his Buckeyes football team, now.) Thanks for posting; it just keeps getting better!

|3 years 27 weeks ago||Burke vs World||
Very good point about Burke's reaction to Craft/frustration/Columbus/etc. I feel like Trey was making decisions almost every time down the floor that he would never make at Crisler or against a random tough opponent.
Maybe I don't normally watch for this, or maybe it looks different from 200 ft up in the 3rd level of Value City Arena, but he looked like he was trying out for the AND1 Mix-Tape Tour with some of the moves he was pulling out as he tried to take on Craft and cross him up. There was at least one early 3-pointer that Burke took from 4 or 5 ft past the arc that seemed like it was really forced and made you wonder how he ever gets any assists. Worst of all was the fast break where Burke had a blue jersey on either side of him and only Craft and one other (out-of-position) defender to deal with, but he ignored his two pass options and went straight at Craft, just to come away with nothing.
It was one of the most unbelievable and upsetting things about yesterday's game, but hopefully it is also one of the biggest benefits of having a game like that in January. I can't imagine Beilein will let Trey turn into his own worst enemy like that again.

What do you and your son get for every year those wins stay un-vacated?

Sure, if your kid was the key Clarett/Pryor figure in the investigation and downfall, a lot of goodwill (which could be helpful; Craig Krenzel still seems to be making money selling lawn tractors here in Columbus) might go away. But I think most of the players involved in vacated wins are still remembered as contributing to wins/great seasons, and if anything they're victims of the big names who screwed up and got the wins vacated/program investigated.

|4 years 22 weeks ago||ಠ_ಠ||
I am extremely disappointed in the execution of this joke. To save me some time, I'll just link to my Reddit comment from the other night to explain what happened and why this is dumb and also Terrible Internet Behavior.
In short: whoever created this "review" is a moron because his total failure to use Google Maps properly has resulted in the internet propagation of a screenshot containing a not-particularly-clever putdown, PLUS a confusing-because-it's-wrong-and-ruins-the-joke label, all presumably at the hands of a Michigan fan. It just looks bad.
Also, this whole thing is turning into an exercise in Bad Internet Citizenship. It seems like the initial reviewer realized that he had reviewed the wrong stadium, so instead of finding Ohio Stadium and adding a review for it, he modified the entire Columbus Crew Stadium place page in Google Maps, and that half-implemented edit must be responsible for the mismatch between location and label in the screenshot seen above. I denied the place page modification because it was bogus and would inconvenience people who wanted to actually find Crew Stadium, but now there are 3+ duplicates of that denied edit because people who don't think "Also a den of cheaters." is a terrible diss are trying to recreate the magic of the screenshot that points to Ohio Stadium but calls it something completely different for some reason. Stop Doing That.

You have a point about the homosexual slur; I'm sure some would excuse it by pointing out that it's just one more horrible thing the parody is putting in the mouth of this terrible and obviously fictitious version of David Brandon, and obviously it's not endorsed by the author... but it does still amount to casual use of a slur that needs to go away.
On everything else, you're blowing things out of proportion as much as the OP. Brian et al. have been making fun of Pro Combat uniforms for years, and now Michigan has jumped in headfirst. There are obvious, non-insane-grudge-related reasons for this post to fit right in with the bent of the blog.
And, man, I don't know if I've ever seen the term "slappy" used in a way that betokened any thought on the part of the writer, or convinced me of anything except that I didn't want to hang out with him.
|4 years 32 weeks ago||Hoke-Speak||
Much like Hoke says "boo-boo" more often than your average CFB coach, the Daily writer pointed out in that blockquote that he regularly uses the phrase, "a deal" (for much the same purpose).
It's a weirder one than "boo-boo" or "tremendous" because it's a short phrase made up of an indefinite article and a common word, but an example (which I am inventing whole-cloth but which might also be taken directly from a Hoke presser) would be: "Yeah, we sat Denard down for a series to have a look at him; he had a deal, there, and we wanted to make sure he was ready to go."
Somehow, when spoken instead of written, that simple phrase ("a deal") sounds like a valid part of speech; only later do you realize that the coach has once again told you absolutely less than nothing about any medical condition, past or present, real or fictional.

Thanks - that was fun. I was a little surprised at the hostility directed towards Delaney, though - does anybody know what that's about, from the Spartan side? |4 years 34 weeks ago||Super-Questionable||
I absolutely do think a bunch of SEC fans and media people have reversed themselves on the whole "you have to win your conference to play in the National Championship" idea, but I really doubt the veracity of this supposed Saban quote. The only place anyone has found it mentioned by even a secondary source is Wikipedia, and the edit history (hoorayyyy, edit history!) makes it clear that someone - logged in from Oklahoma State's campus - fabricated an unfortunately-unlinkable citation for that quote (no way some Okie Stater was carrying around a newspaper clipping from 8 years ago), this morning.

Yeah, I'm seeing this all over the place, from the mini MGoBoard box in the sidebar to the main MGoBoard page to the Diaries box (also on the sidebar).
Meanwhile, when I click the little double arrow in the "Diaries" box in the sidebar, it works as expected most of the time, but I sometimes get way more than 5 new links, and they do not seem to correspond to anything recent or popular. I'm not sure if there's anything different about the starting conditions for these two outcomes.
I'd be glad to help try and sort through what's happening, but I just really can't figure out where the code is that does the linkjacking.
Also, I've just observed that the MGoBoard mini-box seems to work just fine, when I'm actually viewing the MGoBoard itself. If I'm viewing the front page or any content page (diary, board post, front page post), the mini-box fails as described above.
I'm on a Mac, in Safari, Chrome, and FF.

|4 years 35 weeks ago||Exactly||
Thanks for typing so very much about this, I am lazy but feel the same frustration. It's just like when Oklahoma or Texas was in the national championship mix every year because the Big XII just let those two teams steamroll them all the time. I did look up the conference records for the B1G and SEC... hrmmm, which conference has numerous teams that just roll over for any reasonable competition?
|4 years 35 weeks ago||Not sure which post to reply to||
But some people around here really need to Get A Life.
|4 years 36 weeks ago||Sure, neg a direct and accurate response||
BRCE's response sounds a little apologist-y, but it's accurate. JUB mentions Rick Leach letting loose on the radio, and says that it caused two responses from LC: he did the booth appearance in question, and he had a super-rare lunch meeting with RR (and Bill Martin and JUB, if I remember correctly - my 3&O is loaned out right now) in which he told RR, essentially: call off your dogs. (How Rick Leach is RR's dog, I can't imagine.)
JUB certainly doesn't try to dissuade the reader from thinking this reaction was too little, too late, too self-serving on LC's part, but for the skeptic, there's always the possibility that JUB needed a villain or whatever.
|4 years 36 weeks ago||Thanks for responding||
I appreciate the effort you took to unhide my question and respond to it instead of just trying to throw an additional Flamebait on the pile. I agree about the deadness of the RR horse and although I am honestly still trying to decide how I feel about him, I generally wouldn't bring LC up on the MGoBoard either if he weren't actually involved in the news at hand.
I'm still hoping to get John U. Bacon to share some of his feelings on LC going forward (at the Columbus AAUM book signing next week), but I'll definitely take your Carr vs. Freep (et al.) perspective into account.
|4 years 36 weeks ago||Nobody's feeling conflicted?||
I'm a little surprised that none of the first 24 commenters seems to be at all conflicted about the idea of participating in a Lloyd Carr tribute right now. I won't be in attendance on Saturday, but if I were going to be, I know I would be doing some soul-searching to decide whether I'm ready to even do so much as hold up a piece of card stock to honor a guy who couldn't bring himself to do one interview to try and keep his team from hitting rock-bottom in a historic way, a few years ago.
Seriously - nobody?
|4 years 36 weeks ago||Got a little time to do some historian-ing?||
Do you happen to have an un-WH'd version of the 2003 ND game? My working hypothesis is that the 38-0 beatdown Michigan laid on ND caused the YSC to arise organically because it was a dominating win over a traditional rival.
The crowd is *loud* on the first drive of that 2nd half, too. I have to imagine that - if you were listening - you'd start to hear the first strains of "You Suck" right as your vid cuts to Michigan's first second-half drive.
Edit: I can confirm that you're right on the nail with Hot Dog Man being at (and being popular at) that Ball State game that was way closer than it should've been. Unfortunately, that was also his last appearance, as he got hauled away and, presumably, threatened? Anyway, excellent historian-work!
|4 years 36 weeks ago||Thank you!||
Thanks for the confirmation - I was pretty sure this started midseason during my frosh or sophomore year, and was leaning towards sophomore - which was '03.

|4 years 38 weeks ago||I like this direction||
I have always been partial to the Raconteurs' "Steady As She Goes," although I'm not sure if either of these lends itself so easily to being chanted along with.
|4 years 38 weeks ago||Sometimes||
I do normally dislike the You Suck chant, since it's very rare to find the sweet spot where the other team actually does suck, AND there's still a reason to unleash such a negative cheer on them.
I have to admit, though, after Purdue's missed-call-assisted quick strike and general horsefaceyness on Saturday, I did have to crack a smile as the student section informed them of their lack of football talent.
With all that said, I would prefer if this cheer could be traded in for something positive, like the similarly-syllabled "Go Blue." There's just something so middle-school-ish (i.e., Danny Hope-like) about it.
|4 years 38 weeks ago||Oh, sure||
<quote>It is YOUR job to shield these guys from this crap, and not let it permeate the team.</quote>
Do you remember the trash tornado that started quickly and persisted throughout RichRod's tenure? I'm just an alum and a fan, but even when I tried to ignore the stupid buyout kerfuffle and the #1 jersey flap (a misstep, to be sure, but an extremely overblown one), everybody I know was chomping at the bit to talk about Recent Dumb Story whenever they saw me - from my girlfriend's Buckeye dad to my buddy who grew up loving Michigan but is now a big Sparty fan because his brother ended up at Staee to two different uncles, neither of whom I would ever have expected to even glance at a Sports section.

|4 years 39 weeks ago||Interesting...||
This may not be the right time to mention this, but weirdly, the MGoBoard navigation is working better for me right now than it ever has. Normally the little "

" in the "New" tab in the sidebar just results in nonsense/empty sidebar, and something similar normally results when I use the pagination buttons on the bottom of the full-blown MGoBoard.
|4 years 40 weeks ago||No?||
Maybe this is being overlooked because Adams is wrapped up with Roundtree and it's far from clear-cut who is responsible for the impetus/momentum that takes Adams to the ground. Maybe it's just because Spartans are terrible at the internet. Do you have any video of this that wasn't shot using the Zapruder family's personal recording equipment pointed at a TV?
And your followup about the "kick" is a joke. Sorry for dignifying this with a response, everybody, but it's just so bogus (and I've seen it mentioned so many times this week) that I have to ridicule it now that I've seen the incident.

I guess I haven't watched the end of the Michigan-ND game since seeing it from Section 13, but holy moley. Is it just me, or was Roundtree's block at the end of Gallon's long reception really unnecessary and really close to being too far back on the defender (block in the back-style)? Shades of terrible events I can't mention by name just flooded my brain.
Also, is that Brent on PBP? He should maybe hang it up a couple years ago.

*please do not make a big stupid deal out of this ESPN please do not make a big stupid deal out of this ESPN ... *
|4 years 45 weeks ago||Yeah||
I believe this is what OP was asking about, and it's, uh, pretty well-established and Michigan-y. It has undergone various transformations through the years: I'm told it was originally a closed fist being brought down like a hammer after a defensive stop; by my freshman year, 2002, it had weakened into an open-handed "chop" like something you might expect to see at a baseball game televised on TBS or a Florida State football game; in 2005 or thereabouts, the Daily mounted a somewhat-successful campaign to turn the chop into The Claw; naturally, giving everybody in the student section a yellow pompon made the whole thing look a little more consistent - and, I think, a lot more impressive.
Side note: I believe the "You Suck" chant that currently (but hopefully not for long) accompanies Temptation has been around since mid-2002, and I'm embarrassed by that legacy of my time as a student. Challenge to MGoBloggers: change it to something that sounds awesome, never makes us sound STUPID ("we're down 3 scores but YOU SUCK because we stopped you this time"), and doesn't sound at all like something our little brother would say.
|4 years 45 weeks ago||Yup, and yup!||
I was in Section 13, Row 14 - just a few seats to the right of all the Domers. It was fantastic throwing "It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine" back at them, but I forgot to taunt that old bastard in the green sweatshirt down in row 3 or 4 who kept doing a "y u no make a bunch of noise right after ND scored" gesture at us Michigan fans.
Ah, well - he did have one of the very best seats in the house to see Roundtree's catch (mine were pretty awesome too!), so I suppose he got his.
|4 years 48 weeks ago||Yes, but...||
Yes, that place is/was called "Packard Pub," but apparently it's struggling, too. (Who knew Packard & State doesn't get enough visitors to keep a business open during the summer?) I guess it's been closed for a little while now, but just the other day I read on twitter that it's claiming that it'll be reopening soon.
I hope it does make it back, it looked kinda cool but there was a line out the door in the cold the only time I tried to visit. I liked the bigass F-18 Big House Flyover mural that covered a wall.
|4 years 48 weeks ago||Hate to burst your burger||
... but @Burger closed a month or two ago.
I do commend you for sticking up for Grizzly Peak's beers; the Bear Paw Porter is one of my most favorite beers in the world, but of course that's super-subjective because some people don't like porters in the first place and some people like different qualities in porters and it's hard to push a porter on somebody in the middle of the summer even if it is really good. (TL; DR - Give GP beers a chance.)
Agree about TKWU's/TK Wu's (on Liberty, east of Division). Probably the best chinese food in town. You nailed Indian food, too.
I saw some commenters debating Thai food - I love Marnee Thai and think it's even a great deal if you're around for a weekday lunch special.
One new addition to the whole food scene is Mark's Carts on Washington, between First and Ashley. This'll be the first football season for the carts, so I wonder if any of them will be open for games - it seems like they would be insane not to. I can definitely recommend the taco cart in the back, for a breakfast burrito or a fish taco (but don't expect to get dirt-cheap food from any of the carts).
|4 years 48 weeks ago||Whew!||

A Michigan buzzer-beater! Hooray!
Also, glad we're attacking now, AND got out of the half in such great shape. Having Morgan and Hardaway back and better-rested than anybody else on the court can only make the second half even more awesome.
|5 years 18 weeks ago||Mostly true||
But they made notable (called out by the commentators) no-calls on a hard foul and a soft desperation breakaway foul, while M can't even play defense.

|5 years 18 weeks ago||Beware the Ides||
My birthday was two days ago, and I have to echo your sentiments about the weather starting to warm up. Every March, it starts to not suck to be in Michigan, and I have this "Yes, my coming has brought warmth, life, and joy back to the land" feeling. To a lesser extent, March Madness is also cool because I feel like I have some extra leeway in taking a really long lunch or two. Meanwhile, the Ides of March seems to be a distinctly amusing day because nothing important really happens but everybody remembers a millennia-old assassination with varying degrees of fondness... so it's just weirdly fun.
HOWEVA, I set myself up for a huge disappointment when I realized in approximately middle school that I would turn 21 two days before St. Patrick's Day. It seemed like a great week was inevitable: get totally out of control on my bday, have a day and a half to recover, then make my first foray into Kegs & Eggs at some campus establishment and spend the rest of the day playing Green Beer Pong on a front lawn with no fear of law enforcement.
When 21 rolled around, the birthday part went fine, but I was a UM student bus driver and somehow got stuck with a 6 AM shift and then another around 4 PM. I got to drive up South U in the wee hours of the morning and see everybody else lined up for ridiculousness, then drop by my friend's outdoor beer pong game in the afternoon, just to watch and drink water. I remember it as the most wistful St. Patrick's Day ever.

If Brian had published a big screamin' headline that said "Hoke a sloppy dresser; film at 11" and then left the actual text about the untucked shirt in regular-sized font inside a blockquote - or worse yet, simply linked to the article, guaranteeing that fewer than 10% of readers would actually bother to figure out what "sloppy" referred to - then, yes, this would be unnecessary and slanderous. But to employ hyperbole to humorously characterize the "evidence" the writer provided, while making said evidence available and obvious to readers? That's kind of what Brian does.
|5 years 21 weeks ago||Can't OW sully RR's honor without bashing our coach?||
The Original Writer pointed out Hoke's looking sloppy; Brian just summarized it to point out what a ridiculous credential it is. And he's right; this is an extreme stretch for dirt-shoveling.

Even worse, I looked at a comment thread on the MGoBoard that night and didn't even realize why somebody had posted the picture below... until Brian™ posted the same at the end of his Monday Post-Mortem and said he hates when Lloyd Brady is sad. I also started wondering about the rules concerning backwards kickoffs!
On the exact opposite side of the kicking coin, I just tried to look up Paul Peristeris, because I have an enduring memory of his 1995 Alamo Bowl performance as the worst punting game ever possible (can anybody who wasn't 9 at the time back me up or smack me down on this?) - I recall worrying that some of his booming vertical kicks might actually bounce behind the LoS. To my surprise, I found that the game in question was indeed defined by kicking - but "not like you'd think." Not only was the game's offensive MVP Texas A&M placekicker Kyle Bryant (with 5 FGs), but the Michigan kicker was none other than Remy Hamilton. Damn, that name seems so much like a crazy dream that could never have happened, now.

WW already provided the link to HVC's website; my brother lived down there (off State, just north of Eisenhower) for about 6 months and I assure you that it would be reasonable to find a 2-br apartment for $850 there.
I'm wondering whether this news is related to any spitefulness or misunderstanding related to the recent bankruptcy/foreclosure/change of management that the Hidden Valley Club apartments went through in the last year or so.
I guess I'm also wondering why this didn't come up any number of months ago, instead of right now when Demens has finally seen some meaningful playing time and earned himself a spot on the field. If the suit wasn't filed until September 27, that rent had been piling up for a long time. HVC knows that college players don't get to renegotiate any contracts in the middle of the season, right?

Did anybody else feel like the two OOB kickoffs were the worst things that happened and might have been all that separated Michigan from an amazing comeback win? Tate was obviously getting it done on offense until he made a bad decision that I'm chalking up to desperation, and the defense was holding Iowa pretty well throughout the last 10 minutes of the game - as long as the starting field position was reasonable (I'd like to think this had something to do with the fact that Iowa got further away from the student section as their field position got better).
I normally just sigh and shake my head rather than complaining loudly about kicking problems [when those problems are FG-related], but the opponent can't do anything to force you to kick off OOB. Twice. WTF.

Do you keep this list on your bulletin board next to the "People I Hate" list? I have spent 15 minutes just trying to find these comments so that I could understand them (well, it's easy to find the comments themselves but I have no context and nobody backfills that in the game threads).
Anyway, in fairness to the "most-trafficked single-team college football blog" commenter, I think that was a sarcastic response to somebody who was serious about calling Brian an idiot.
But, what the hell is all this math stuff about? I've noticed that "Brian thinks 3/11 = half" and Iowa is 3-8 in their last 11 trips to the Big House, but I feel like I'm 2/3rds of the way through A Beautiful Mind and I'm just arbitrarily combining numbers that I noticed on various pages of BHGP. Can anybody connect the dots for me [without ending up in a shack in the woods]?
PS - I'm not impressed by the commenters, but the 10 minutes I've spent reading old BHGP threads makes me hope the site redesign might get put back on the table here. Seems like a more economical use of space is possible.

(Also, sorry; I know you're pumped and obviously I have nothing better to do than read every new thing posted here, but the tenor of the blog for the last few days leads me to believe that people will be annoyed about this.)
|5 years 41 weeks ago||Good call||
If the mods let either thread survive, I think you're backing the right horse here.
|5 years 41 weeks ago||Dominate State||
The fear and paranoia that have been gripping us all for days departs before halftime when we go up by - yes - 17 in the second quarter. Remember, Brabbs is on the field for this game!
MSU never closes within 10, Greg Jones looks silly several times, 38-24.
|5 years 41 weeks ago||Evidently||
he's an NFL fan. The lamest overtime, wherein any touchdown is an accident.
|5 years 41 weeks ago||Nope||
|5 years 41 weeks ago||Link is dead||
Well, this is annoying; this highly entertaining topic seems to have been deleted, so now the link at the top of this thread just takes me to the main list of Florida HS football topics. Even worse, Scout must have a file or tag that tells the GoogleBot not to make the archive of this page available, because the same link is still in Google results [for part of the transcript MGoMaizeAndBlue posted from dontbeaRAIDERhater's comments] as of right now, but there is no "Cached" link.
If I didn't know any better, I would suggest that this hssportsfan fellow was not as much of an upstanding gentleman as he had previously claimed, and instead of facing the music, eating his words and posting an apology has instead deleted the evidence, in the manner of a big pussy aka coward.
|5 years 41 weeks ago||Aight||
1. Ummm... maybe wash that. I think it's far more likely that your odoriferousness will work against the team, since you sit behind the home bench, than that your shirt has been imbued with some sort of mystical power that is somehow Tide-soluble.
2. When I worked in the South Quad cafeteria, there was a room with a sign what said "Training Table". I think a lot of football players eat there.
4. Goddamn, I do too. Goddamn.
5. Maybe I should change my username before I comment candidly on this.

posbang ND Sux to 5K
|5 years 41 weeks ago||Actually||
Since the original round of stories stopped right at "U of Michigan professor," I thought people might be interested to find out which professor was actually involved, and what exploit the team used. That information is in his blog post.
|5 years 42 weeks ago||or John F Kennedy||
Since he was on the record regarding his appreciation of Michigan and his attendance at a school with Michigan-like aspirations.
|5 years 42 weeks ago||FSD coverage for anybody interested||
FSD's Dave Dye apparently really believes that there are no other players on Michigan's team, but thinks Denard doesn't need them anyway.
And, this is pretty topical since it's live-streaming, but: there's a MSU-UM "Roundtable Discussion" on fsd.com complete with CoverItLive in the sidebar right now (noon ET ff.).
|5 years 42 weeks ago||Tyrone MF Wheatley||
Tyrone Wheatley is completely inseparable in my mind from the beginning of my Michigan Football fandom (and thus sports fandom in general); as far as I can tell, I wandered past the TV one day in 3rd grade and thought, "that guy is totally awesome, and hey those other guys with him are cool too."
I hardly even believe it now, but for some reason Wheatley came to my tiny Lutheran school in Dearborn when I was in 4th grade (I guess it makes a little more sense now that I have learned from Wikipedia that he went to Robichaud HS down the road in Dearborn Heights?). It's a shame that cameras weren't as ubiquitous and pictures weren't as marginally cheap back in the day as they are now, because somebody could have preserved a picture of the most excited, most awkward-looking kid ever.
Chuck Winters came too.
|5 years 42 weeks ago||You almost got away with it||
Just pretend you had another snarky response to willywill; I almost didn't notice your DP but took a closer look when Post #2 made no sense on its own.
|5 years 42 weeks ago||Federal grant yes, government not as much||
I believe this project is for D.C. only. It was paid for in part by a federal grant, but that's about it.
|5 years 42 weeks ago||Yellow journalism!||
It's hardly worth commenting, but I just followed a link over to RCMB and discovered that they have a strong aversion to media outlets following up negative stories about people related to their program. I haven't followed the story at all so my only opinion about the Spartan reaction is that it's funny to read "I hate biased journalism. You get these blogs and 'watchdog' groups online that have no training, no tact and no news judgment, and it shows in the writing." That's a sentence that can only come from a fan of a program with a loyal "trained" lapdog in the local media.
On a brighter note, it seems Denard is even too fast for MSU fans to hate him. Now, "ForeverMediocre"? If you're an MGoBlogger, stay out of it, especially when they're being honest and human and reasonable. Besides, you called out the wrong thing. It's plenty reasonable for any opposing fan to say, "the only bad thing about Denard is that he plays [somewhere else]." If you want to find the problem with MSU fans, go to a bar and listen to the MSU contingent as they cheer louder about scores against Michigan than about scores for State.
|5 years 42 weeks ago||WW checks out||
User for 34 weeks and change; did pick the craziest possible fucking thread in which to ask about things to do on game day in Ann Arbor, though.
While WichitaWolverine looks to be on the slightly-confused up-and-up, the warning about poster names stands.
|5 years 42 weeks ago||Damn||
Board posts don't show avatars or point totals? I didn't realize I was "dude"ing somebody who is on the board all the damn time.
Anyway, [if you're not logged in,] the "User Login" box has a "Request new password" link below the username and password fields - looks like you can request a new password by giving the ensuing form either your username or your email address, so Sparty must've seen a lot of your posts and figured you'd have enough points to start thredz n shit. I can't explain what the next step in the plan was, so I guess Sparty is an Underwear Gnome.
|5 years 42 weeks ago||Indeed||
"Meta: Spartans Attempting to Cause Password Resets" hasn't even been pushed off the "New" tab of the MGoBoard sidebar yet (despite your best efforts), dude.
|5 years 42 weeks ago||I'm sorry Ms. Jackson||
I am for real.
|5 years 42 weeks ago||Big Home field advantage||
Yes, I think this pretty much covers the snap-jumping concerns; as long as some shameful shit doesn't go down wherein tons of Sparties show up and make the Big House sound like an MSU game at Crisler.
But, since you've taken the liberty of starting a new thread, I'd like to hijack it as high up as possible and bring up my main concern for the weekend, which is horrible thuggish Shoelace-twisting hijinks.
DRob is obviously every team's biggest fear/enemy/target all day long; apparently IU's crowd was screaming for blood, and he did say that opposing players (from UMass?) were already trying to steal his shoes... does anybody put it even one millimeter past Sparty to try and twist ankles and mess with sore knees at the bottom of a pile? And, is there anything Michigan's staff can do in terms of telling the refs to look out for misbehavior and deliver swift harsh punishment for any inappropriate extracurricular activity?
|5 years 42 weeks ago||Erroneous data||
Yeah, I can't imagine a reason that 20/21 isn't totally bogus. It was only one play (and one IU penalty) and it ended with a fumble, but nothing about it makes it anything other than a Red Zone opportunity.
So, if that's the only bad data, I get M down in 4th with 0.877. I'll take it, especially considering the number of times Denard just flies right past the red zone.
The play-by-play must've confused the stat monkey adding RZ opps 1-by-1: MICH 24, IND 2, IND 1, FUMB. By the by, can RR (not that RR) please proceed directly to the end zone instead of stopping inside the 5?
|5 years 42 weeks ago||Great point||
But, I really wish you could've packed in a few more facts or numbers to back up your analysis, or posted a little earlier, or spelled everything right.
Oh, nevermind, this guy's got it covered.
|5 years 42 weeks ago||Dunno who made them, but||
Yes, they moved from the golf course to the orange/construction parking lot into which Pauline dead-ends, for OSU in '07.
Jesus, just thinking about that day makes me freezing cold and sick to my stomach... just like depressing football, freezing rain, and way too much vodka.
