I lost my father 17 years ago, 30 June, 1997 at 3:30pm. I felt the very last beat of his heart before he stepped into eternity. In one moment I lost my dad, my boss, my coach, my fishing buddy, my spiritual mentor and my best friend. I wouldn't trade the last 30 minutes of his life that we shared together for anything on this planet - even if he was unconscious and slowly fading away. Fully embrace the waves of grief whenever they wash over you and let them run their course. The next "set of firsts" without him will be the most surreal days of your life. Praying for true peace for you and your family. Thanks for sharing your heart with us.

I think you misunderstood the point I was making. After reading the police report, I was sickened by the events that transpired. I immediately wondered what happened to the woman? After doing my own searching, I came to the conclusion that she turned a painful and tragic event in her life into something positive for herself and for others. It took time, but through her determination and persistence I feel she got a measure of justice in the end. I wasn't making light of the situation, but applauding the one other person on this entire blog who dug deep enough to connect the same dots that I had by bringing up the IWill campaign. Very happy that she didn't fade away into obscurity as many would have under the same circumstances.

Congratulations! You found the missing link that everyone else was too busy pontificating to find for themselves. This is the story that answers all of the questions - right in plain site. IMO, his "brunette girls" comment in the limelight likely sealed his current fate, although it took almost two years after that comment for it to all play out. There is no doubt in my mind why the Gibbons expulsion was the first act by the University under the new parameters, years after the 2009 incident.

My buddy has found a dozen or so deer here in St. Joe Co and he said that none of them that he has found have been touched by coyotes, vultures, crows etc... nothing is touching the carcasses. That's spooky to me that predators who are always out for a free meal aren't having anything to do with these dead animals. The DNR says there is no worry for transmission to humans, but I'm waiting until 72 hours after the first hard frost before doing any hunting this year.
Of the dozen dead deer found so far, 5 have been bucks - largest was a 140 class 8 point. Sad.
Wait until the corn and beans get picked and more guys get into the woods - the numbers of dead EHD deer are going to go through the roof.
Safe hunting fellas!

On the chart above, shouldn't Harris have a +6 vs MSU instead of the 0 he was given? That would put him at +35 for those games instead of +29, for a 3.88 average.

Love Demens and looking for great things from him.
|2 years 39 weeks ago||Stewart||
Gotta remember that he has no Class A championship caliber team around him, so there won't be a blazing highlight reel the first three games of the season. Sturgis is class B.
With his O LIne, he will be playing more from the shotgun as well to give him more time. Sturgis has MAYBE 26-28 kids on the Varsity squad this season - and no JV team, so half of those kids will be incoming sophomores playing at the Varsity level for the first time.Yeoowww.
Michigan has been aware of him forever and he has spent time there with the coaches. I have absolutely no doubt that he wanted and would have jumped at a Michigan offer, but it looks like he knew he probably wasn't going to get one if it hadn't happened yet. How can you blame a kid in his situation for jumping at the opportunity to play QB anywhere in the Big 10, let alone Wisconsin where he'll finally get a line big enough to give him his 3 seconds in the pocket to set up and throw the ball.
Good luck to him except when he plays us.
|2 years 45 weeks ago||Sturgis||
Gotta consider what kind of team he has around him. Not much. Always running for his life and scrambling is not his forte. He has the qb smarts and size. If he played for any of the state championship caliber teams in Michigan his film would be better, his statistics would be better and his skills would be even more polished than they are. How many class B qb's get Big Ten offers as an incoming junior? I honestly don't know that answer, but just throwing it out for consideration.
|3 years 1 week ago||big steal||
|3 years 14 weeks ago||I live in Sturgis and know Chance||
He's the read deal at QB, playing for a smaller - non-powerhouse - class B school. Once he graduates, we'll go back to fielding mediocre teams like we always have. You knew watching him in 6th grade rocket football that the kid would play "big time" college ball. He had IT, even back then.
Great arm, whole field vision, QB smarts and confidence. He knows he's good, but you want that cockiness in a QB. Though they look similar, he's not as arrogant as Mallet.
Loves Michigan, but has to make a decision between wearing the Winged Helmet and waiting your turn, or picking another D1 school and getting extra YEARS of playing time. Kid is a competitor and won't back down from Morris, so no worries there - but he has to know he won't start at Michigan as a freshman, and he's never NOT started at ANYTHING he has ever played (including Varsity basketball and baseball as a Freshman).
Starting Varsity QB as a freshman and almost got a bad team into the playoffs that year. Last year he got them in, but not far. Can't say that outcome will change much over the next two years with the kids that are coming up with him. If he were at a powerhouse football school with a good back and at least one receiver over 6' with good hands and wheels, he would be putting up SICK numbers. Happy to see him getting the recognition he deserves.
He will be a big time QB in college, and will play on Sundays if he can stay healthy.
Happy to offer highlights from the bleachers over the next two years.
|3 years 24 weeks ago||Sec. 36 & 11||
I was in N endzone and the ones behind us were nice (though understandably disappointed). Same goes for the ones who worked in their Athletic Dept. and sat near my cousins in S endzone. Cheered for their team when they did well, but not obnoxiously.
I'd second the "class" remarks.
|3 years 24 weeks ago||Same Here - Odoms||
I said the exact same thing to my wife when he scored -- the TD couldn't happen to a better kid. Worked his butt off before his injury to see the field and make great contributions, only to get seriously hurt, miss games and drop on the depth chart. Persistance had some memorable payoff for him this weekend.
|3 years 25 weeks ago||IIRC||
Wasn't Denard in the process of going down when he put his arm out, and thus put the ball on the ground? The ball did NOT drop out of his hand, which would surely be a fumble. I thought he used the ball/his arm to gain leverage to stay up and break away from the tackler. I thought they would call him down at the spot the ball touched the ground. I haven't read the rules, myself.
|3 years 28 weeks ago||Really Frat?||

|3 years 28 weeks ago||Watch the initial karate chop to Denard's neck||
I posted this later in this thread, but wated to respond to Section 1, as he has the actual video linked in his post.
DON'T look past the initial, blatant "strike" on Denard by Rush!
He open handed karate chopped Denard's neck with BOTH hands as he was coming down upon Denard. After the CHOPS, he then grabbed Denard as an afterthought and threw him down.
I believe he was trying to break Denard's collarbones with the initial strike(s) to the neck, and then wrapped him up and tossed him aside to cover up the CHOPS!
Furious if this goes unpunished by the Big10.
|3 years 28 weeks ago||Rush's Hit on Denard||
If you take a closer look at the initial hit Rush put on Denard, he karate chopped Denard's neck with both hands.
Watch the open area between Denards shoulder pads and the base of his helmet - the MF'er was trying to break Denard's collarbones. Seriously, take another look at the initial "strike" - it's two open handed karate chops to the exposed base of his neck - and THEN he wraps him up and throws him down.
It's not the take down that injured Denard - IT WAS THE CHOPS TO THE NECK!!!

he did it to solidify his current team and for future recruiting purposes.
Everyone had him on the top list for OSU consideration. I don't think he wanted to take on the restructuring that OSU has coming - especially not with his health the way it is either.
He probably thought, If I can make it another 5 years lets keep building the program at MSU -- and if I can eek out a couple more wins over Michigan in that time, all the better for my legacy.

|3 years 31 weeks ago||The lower you sit to the field....||
the louder it is.
I won tix to the ND game 2 years ago and sat in section 25 row 2 - home sideline around the 24 yard line. The entire student section and band is just over your left shoulder. That was the closest to field level I'd ever sat in over 30 years of attending games. It was deafening down there. It went from extremely loud throughout the entire game, to hypersonic pitch ringing after the winning touchdown - it was beyond noise at that point.
I sat near the top of the bowl in the north endzone in section 36 row 87 for this years UTL game with ND and it was extremely loud up there, but not to the point of "hypersonic ringing" - even though the entire crowd was infinitely more "electric" in the 4th quarter. I think this has to do with how high we sat in the stadium. I have to believe it was just as deafening this year at field level, if not more-so.
FWIW, I love sitting under the speakers in the north endzone. I gives me the green light to yell my fool head off. Before the rawk music, I would start yelling but hardly anyone else in my section would chime in - now with the rawk being piped in so loud, I'm seeing far more people getting into it.
Final Note: Don't wait until the opposing offense lines up at the line of scrimmage to start yelling loudly -- do it as soon as they huddle up! It was like this at the ND game 2 years ago - it was loud during every down of that game (not just 3rd down), and it started as soon as they huddled up. Disrupt their communication in the huddle as well as at the line of scrimmage when they try to call an audible.

My cousin was hit by a car when he was 15 and had a closed head injury and was in a coma for 3 months before coming out of it. Godspeed Austin. Praying for a full recovery.

That "poor thrower" we have in Robinson threw a perfect ball 38 yards, on the run, across his body and without setting his feet. Not overthrew, not underthrew - dead nuts on the numbers, so he could catch it in stride.

We tailgated with our group until 1:45am and got home at 4am. It wasn't too bad of a drive, as we were still jacked about the game. If we'd have lost, it would have seemed like an 8 hour drive home. Sunday, we were all worthless.

Get a little heavier white card stock and print out the RAGE photo of Kelly's face.
Cut out the outline of his head and mouth opening (small holes for eyes) and either put it on a popsicle stick/tongue depresser to hold up to your face when you yell - or get a string or elastic to just tie it around your head.
Would be great for the rows in student section that always get on camera at the game too.

Wait there was a brighter day
Where I could view the world
Without the sorrows that I've known
(What if I could feel?)
Now it's a different place
Memories fade away without a trace
But there's a shadow
A shadow I can feel
My eyes are closing softly
(I never wanted to be)
Inside these walls I fade away
(I never wanted to be)
Still holding on 'cause this is
Far from over
I won't say goodnight
My heart's grown colder
Waiting for the sun to rise again
So save your kiss goodbye
It's far from over
I won't fear anymore
Wait I know it's not too late
Even though the innocence is scarred
There's still tomorrow
(What if I could feel?)
I could just escape
Close my eyes and dream about
A sentimental vision
A vision I could feel
This time I won't go softly
(I never wanted to be)
Refuse to simply fade away
(I never wanted to be)
Still holding on 'cause this is
Far from over
I won't say goodnight
My heart's grown colder
Waiting for the sun to rise again

What a classless, mindless, ignorant example. It was a stupid example when these thoughts popped up inbetween his ears to himself. To actually open his mouth in public and say what he said was denegrating to the most humble kid to wear the winged helmet in my lifetime of 43 years.
Howard's wild imagination of what "must be" going through Robinson's head when Rodriguez was fired is, IMO, 180 degress from the truth. Maybe Howard talked to Robinson about his decision at the time, but I really don't believe that at all.
One player drops to a knee after he scores, to thank God for his ability - the other strikes a Heisman Pose before they even vote on the award. Which one speaks of entitlement to you?

|3 years 50 weeks ago||My daughter is a soph in HS||
this year and holds a 3.85 GPA in all advanced classes. Studies her brains out and has the highest compliments as a student in each of her classes from teachers. She hit a 20 on the ACT on her first try. She recently admitted to me that she hates reading as a whole because she automatically re-reads everything to make sure she isn't missing or misunderstanding something. She said she needs to teach herself to "skim read" so that she gets the necessary nuggets out of it, and thus will do better on the timed testing of the Standardized tests.
My son will be in HS next year and will struggle to make average grades in everything but music, where he excels. He can recite the Guiness Book of World records for you, but cannot comprehend anything out of a chapter by chapter book. My son can memorize music by ear and plays the saxophone like nobody's business. He will have to absolutely bust his butt academically, but it wouldn't surprise me to find him in the MMB one day.
Brains - everyone has one and they all work a little differently for each person.
|4 years 2 weeks ago||Denard knows what he needs to work on....||
footwork and "Three Second" releases - regardless of the number of drop steps - 3/5/7.
7 on 7s will help with routes and TIMING. Lead your receiver and trust he will be at that spot to catch it on the run. Competition from DG is going to be good for both of them.
No worries -
|4 years 3 weeks ago||Hijacked thread....||
It took me a while to even see the lift in the background of the photo - I was too enamored with Denard's improved throwing motion in the photo. I'm excited to get to see him play this weekend and then compare it to where he ends up this fall. I know he'll work his butt off and believe the competition will be a good thing too. He's always had a strong enough arm to just wing it off his back foot and get away with it. That won't cut it going forward.
Proper footwork, leaning into the throw, releasing high and leading the receiver somewhere downfield AT 3 SECONDS is going to make Denard even more dangerous than he was last season as a true first year starter.
The 7 on 7s will help him get the timing down with his receivers over the summer, and I'm praying he spends the remaining time watching film and counting to three.

|4 years 14 weeks ago||Because RR wasn't Brady Hoke||
|4 years 14 weeks ago||As soon as I read that Denard comment I said...||
Where do you even come up with that in your head? Nonsense.
|4 years 14 weeks ago||Keep praying -||
we're not quite through with this class yet.
|4 years 14 weeks ago||More Yes...||
|4 years 14 weeks ago||Dude, you've dogged this kid three times in this thread....||
.....what'd he do, steal your woman at Homecoming?
|4 years 14 weeks ago||Not after the 5:36 mark...||
...where he takes a 6 yard loss and makes it a 7 yard gain.
That, and his stiff arms are good for another 5 yards, minimum. Pound the rock, son.
|4 years 15 weeks ago||With the proper caoching - which he WILL get....||
he will be even more dangerous, and harder to defend against.
He has a very strong arm, but has a few issues with QB mechanics in his throwing. Denard is a learner and is anxious to take the next step and will soak the teaching up like a sponge - knowing he will only get better as a quarterback. He will work hard in the offseason and will be unlike any other quarterback we have ever seen wearing the winged helmet.
If he tweaks just a few things in his throwing motion, he will become a deadly accurate passer. He is very accurate at short throws, but he will soon be accurate anywhere on the field, instead of just lofting one up for grabs.
He has proven he will stay in the pocket to make a throw - and take a shot standing in there. If the pocket collapses from the outside, he will immediately have space to take off in front of him. His running will only get better in this new offense because he will have defenders collapsing in BEHIND him, instead of ALL11 waiting for him at the line of scrimmage with the spread. If you thought he was fun to watch this year, you will be blown away at what you will see him do in the next two.
He will begin to see the whole field for the first time - and be able to check off on his reads faster. His timing will quicken up and he will know when guys are going to break free on the long ball. I don't believe he will continue to have problems overthrowing those guys by ten yards once the mechanics and vision have been taught properly. I am also confident he will learn to run for the first down when the third down passing lanes are taken, instead of forcing a throw (pick) that isn't there.
The strides this young man made from his first season to last season were remarkable. What we are about to see this year is going to blow your mind.
Have no fear that the old Lloyd offense will be finding it's way back on the field. Lloyd never had Denard Robinson as his quarterback.
|4 years 15 weeks ago||Yeah, that.||
Having graduated from there, I'd say the same thing.
Manageable classloads. Great football program. Closer to the beach - lol.
|4 years 15 weeks ago||This Is Michigan||
For God Sakes!
|4 years 15 weeks ago||At least...||
...these kids will have been prepared to work hard before this transition. Should make it pretty smooth. But what do you expect from coaches who think football is a Tough Mans Game.
Carry on boys! Carry on! To Victory!
|4 years 15 weeks ago||Stud Back Needed||
I'd hope that Hopkins would be considered for future glory out of that position. I can see it.
|4 years 15 weeks ago||Morgan||
I'll say it again - that kid was going to be great before the coaching picks. Now? Whooooooo!
Can't wait to see that kid lock down the middle of the field. Mad skills with the best coaches around, playing at his dream school. Talk about the planets aligning.
|4 years 15 weeks ago||I have faith....||
...that coach can seal the deal on these kids he is reaching out to. Complete faith.
|4 years 15 weeks ago||Morgan||
I cannot wait to see this kid play Linebacker at Michigan. CAN. NOT. WAIT.
|4 years 15 weeks ago||That's....||
|4 years 15 weeks ago||Any coach that would take over terminally losing programs.....||
is going to have an overall losing record like he has. What he was able to do at both schools before he left each one is a testament to his abilities to create winning teams.
I supported Rich and Michigan over his three years - wore the Colors year in and out. But just as I have no control over how Rich got to Michigan, nor how he left - I'll just keep supporting whomever is the coach at Michigan and especially those kids on the Team.
I'm going to look for the positives and continue to have faith that we can win again, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Bo is gone, Mo is gone, Lloyd is gone, Rich is gone. Brady is our coach - and the kids who remain at Michigan are our team.
If I verbally tell my kid that he's a loser and won't ever do anything in life - chances are, that's exactly what will happen. I will remain positive around the "naysayers" and yell as loud as I can when I attend the games. I will talk positive at the tailgates, before and after each game - regardless if we win or lose. I will do my best to find the good that is Michigan football and focus on that in my texts, posts, and conversations about this great University and its football program.
Can't wait for the Spring Game.
|4 years 15 weeks ago||The "passing" of the winged helmet....||
Brandon officially passing the HC torch to Brady.
|4 years 15 weeks ago||QB Mechanics||
Denard has a very strong arm, but that strength has also enabled him to keep some bad habits - like throwing completely off his back foot without stepping into the throw towards the receiver. He has some mechanics stuff to work on with the right coach, but that will only make him a more dangerous QB. I have no doubt he will embrace the teaching and work beyond overtime in the offseason to improve.
He took quite a few shots this year while standing in the pocket - and never backed away from any charging defender. Always seemed to get the pass off just in the nick of time, and still stood there and took the shot. IMO he will be even more exciting to watch this year and next with whatever offense they create just for his skills.
Once he learns to see the entire field and check off on his receivers, he will be unstoppable. A hybrid-pro set will only help him.
Can't friggin' wait!
|4 years 16 weeks ago||What he read off the paper was scripted -||
and after all the "Thank You's" the rest of that came from his heart.
|4 years 16 weeks ago||Jeebus -||
If Brian heard the same press conference I did yesterday - and he isn't ready to run through a brick wall for this guy, think he needs to get on some happy pills.

I received an e-mail this morning from someone with ties to LSU assistant coaches. That's what they were telling him - the family voted to stay put and not be uprooted.
That was well before the game. There is obviously a chance that the AA gig is too good to pass up and they change their minds - we will know soon enough. Only God knows what they are thinking now.
|4 years 16 weeks ago||The Miles family took a vote||
and they are staying in Louisiana.
The wife wanted to leave before, but now that the kids are in high school, they all want to stay put.
Les has banked and invested his cash well over the years and money isn't an issue for him.
LSU should be better as a team this year (2011) than they were this past year (2010) -- and they looked pretty strong tonight.
Les is staying put.

|4 years 17 weeks ago||That makes Lloyd Brady happy!||
|4 years 17 weeks ago||Ross has set Harbaugh Straight||
"Jimmy - go back to Michigan and re-right the ship. Set it all up so that when you decide to leave for the NFL at a later date, that one of your assistants is fully set to take over the helm as HC - so Michigan never has to go through what we just went through - ever, ever again."
|4 years 17 weeks ago||It ain't over....||
till it's over.
|4 years 17 weeks ago||Still think he's coming here||
I think he is banking some goodwill from the fanbase by seemingly shopping NFL teams, and then making a decision to come back and help Michigan resurrect it's winning ways.
Turning down 7 million a year to come back here ought to buy him some extra grace from the fanebase if he can't turn this ship around immediately in 2011 or 2012 with our current defense, and seemingly dysfunctional recruiting group for the current year. "He turned down 7 Mil from Miami to come back here and right the sinking ship - give him some time - Rich ran the program into the ground. Saint Jim to the rescue!"
Pure mumbojumbo on my part, but I'm still holding out hope until he actually signs with Miami (I think the 49er deal is toast).
FWIW it won't be Hoke or Miles either......but a big enough name to save the current team from defecting and recruiting as well. Keeping Barwis will also go a long, long way too.

The history of the football program and the quality of education is without equal - even with the W-L record over the last three years. You either want to be one of the select few men on this planet who will ever get the rare opportunity to wear the winged helmet, and touch that banner as you take the field at every home game in front of 110,000+ people at the Big House -- or you don't.
I want kids who have actually watched the last 30 + years of incredible "Wolverine Historian" YouTube football highlights - and understand what their place will be in the history of this storied program - instead of kids who have opted to veg in just as many hours of Madden Football ("Did you see that move?? Man, that was sick! Lets watch it again in sloooooowwww motion. The dexterity of my thumbs is amazing!").
This is Michigan. It is bigger than any one coach. It is bigger than any one player. It absolutely is one of the single best offers you will ever receive in the course of your lifetime. All the best to any high school player who has a scholarship offer from the University and isn't "All In for Michigan" at this point - good luck wherever you end up, until we line up against you.
|4 years 23 weeks ago||I hope you sent your resume to Schembechler Hall||
Why is this observation obvious to some and not so much to those in charge of putting guys on the field?
|4 years 23 weeks ago||I agree with the comment...||
"Very little wasted motion in his running style."
So often a back will overexaggerate his juke and lose some valuable "North Momentum", but it just seems like Justice makes people miss with a quick step and "whoop", he's headed upfield again. He does appear to have great eyes once he gets the ball, and is very quick to make a decision on which way he is taking it. Seems to glide through the line of scrimmage and is 6 yards downfield before he makes a cut or spin into the 2nd level. The number of missed tackles "in a crowd" let alone "in space" is amazing.
Very excited to see this young man wearing the Winged Helmet for Michigan!
Welcome to the family Justice! Go Blue!
|4 years 24 weeks ago||Agreed||
I have 100% confidence in DBs decision making.
Every time I hear him on the radio, just the mere tone of his voice says,
"I've got everything under control - don't worry - sleep well tonight, knowing I already know the answers to the questions I will be asked tomorrow."
|4 years 24 weeks ago||In practice before games...||
He stands on the opposing 45 yard line and consistently bounces it off the wall beyond the north endzone - in the air! That's at least 70 yards from where he kicked the ball (not from scrimmage).
He can boom them for sure -
|4 years 25 weeks ago||Great Start to the Weekend!||
Great to have you BLUE Dallas! Can't wait to see you in the Winged Helmet!
Get Sammy up here with you!!!!
|4 years 25 weeks ago||Odom's Blocking||
He is the "anti-primadonna" WR. I think he had a lot to do with the early season, extra yards that Robinson was getting with his downfield blocking. I'd love a few more guys with his toughness out there - not afraid to mix it up after a pass, even if he wasn't thrown the ball.
Godspeed on the healing Tay-
|4 years 26 weeks ago||Unfreakin' Believable||
No idea how you do it --- just keep doing it.
|4 years 26 weeks ago||200/200||
Yeah Big - 10 yards of each and he's hit it for the third time THIS YEAR! That has to count for something.
I made a joke about Smith running into Shilling's thigh and falling over, and the buddy I was watching the game with about shot his drink out his nose. Not sure if it he found it funnier because it just happened, or what.
Love the effort these kids put out there, but we gotta get our guys into SPACE and not in the middle of a friggin mosh pit of 300 pounders.
Final note: love how Denard is really waiting until the DEnd commits to the runner before pulling the ball out for himself. The 2 step forward, dump pass is a wonderful thing to behold as well. This kid is amazing - can't wait to see him get even better over the next two years.
|4 years 26 weeks ago||I did like his fire at the end of the third quarter||
He got right in front of the D - GERG included - and lit them up. Seems like they went out and made a stop too.
Denard was about 10 yards of Passing and 10 yards of rushing tonight from his 3rd 200/200.
RR stays, but Gerg is looking for new digs.
|4 years 27 weeks ago||Caption this buckeye thought.....||
|4 years 27 weeks ago||I hope it means we are bringing the heat this week||
on the D line, causing all kinds of free picks for the taking. Grasping at straws, but no better week this late in the schedule to give it a shot. Real game speed playing time and he builds some confidence back there with a good performance.

|4 years 27 weeks ago||Tell me....||

|4 years 27 weeks ago||17-7 Cats||
Make that 17-7 Cats... as I send this, right before the half.
|4 years 28 weeks ago||IIRC I thought he hurt his shoulder in practice this week??||
Seems like I heard that postgame. Not sure if it was his throwing arm or not, but either one would probably cause issues. I think he's more banged up than anyone knows. He did seem a step slower on his runs as well. Maybe the Iowa D was quicker, but he didn't seem to have the breakaway stuff.
Not knocking Denard at all, just think he's feeling it a little more mid-season than the UConn game.
Great to know Tate can come in and do what he did as well. Freakin' deep at QB.
Saw your avatar joeyb, just before the team went off the field after the pre-game warm up. Must be something that Lewan and Denard do now. Also saw Tate, Denard and Devin all do the jump and bump at the same time, before they left the field.
|4 years 28 weeks ago||yeah -||
and both have dreads.
|4 years 28 weeks ago||25,000 people left and it got louder....||
Freaking great time during the 4th quarter - mistakes and all. Crowd noise was loud for the D, and once when Iowa was having trouble communicating between themselves at the line of scrimmage, the place took it up another notch. I was impressed.
Hopefully many of those that left early at the end of the 3rd have season tickets they are going to drop after this seaon and we'll get some real fans to snatch them up.
25,000 people quit on the team, but the team didn't quit on anyone.
I don't care how pissed you are at the losses right now, I double dog dare anyone that has season tickets to drop them right now. Just say F-it and walk away, you've had enough - more than you can stomache. If you're a man, you'll stand by all your whining and complaining and do the manly thing and drop your season tickets.
"All In For Michigan - as long as we're winning" - cry me a river and go find another team for your fair weather support.
Kudos to everyone who stayed.
|4 years 28 weeks ago||Agreed tenerson -- In fact....||
If you don't own season tickets and are all upset -- go find another team to call your own.
If you do own season tickets and are fed up -- I double dog dare you to let them go and not renew them next season.
I dare you.
Triple Dip, Double Dog Dare you now. You're pissed, but too skeered to let go of your tickets -- because you know that Michigan will be back on top in short order, and once you get out, you can kiss your seats goodbye.
There ought to be a denotation in the ticket database that anyone who drops their tickets now, never has another opportunity to get on board again. That won't happen, but .....
I support this team and our Michigan coaches. I wear the colors - win or lose - because there will never be another team in my heart to root for and cheer on.
Go friggin Blue!
|4 years 28 weeks ago||3-3-5||
I've come to the conclusion that the 335 was mandated to slow the game down for the young kids. Get them game speed time to learn to cover receivers, tackle after the catch, learn to tackle in space and occasionally make a play on the ball. Contain in front of you and don't get gashed. It would build real game experience, and confidence. Playing man-o-man would lead to more gashes than you'd ever care to see and would decrease the confidence level of a very YOUNG AND INEXPERIENCED group of kids.
Glad to see more changes we made on D. Still got beat on stuff, but from my seat in section 36, I saw some improvement and hope for the rest of the season, and the years to come.
|4 years 29 weeks ago||Lucky you weren't at our tailgate last weekend....||
'cuz if it's your first time to the BH and we lose, you're not invited back as the loss would be all on you.
It's a running joke to first timers who pick up someone's extra ticket during the year in our group. We're not really serious.....well, kind'a.
|4 years 29 weeks ago||Capitalize on opportunities||
The D will be UP again and play well enough to give us the two extra stops - hopefully early in the game again so we can go up and stay up two necessary scores.
MSU was a fluke boys - lets win this one and take a week off to heal up for the revenge beatdown we are going to give Penn State at their place.
|4 years 29 weeks ago||The home crowd at Indiana this year looked like...||
...they were having an actual aerobics class in the stands all day - it literally looked like they were running in place, with their arms pumping up and down in the air. I couldn't find a good crowd shot of that, but it looked a lot like this, only x 40,000 (there had to be 30,000 Michigan fans there for capacity).
|4 years 29 weeks ago||I could give a #$%^& about this idiotic State....||
.....and 75% of the idiots living in it -- but Meeechigan, well lets not screw with a good thing. Give Dave Brandon whatever he wants, whenever he wants it and may it be a long, long, long time before he ever leaves his current position at this University. This state is already #$%^& up, but our athletics are just getting ramped up on so many levels.
Focus people. Focus on what REALLY matters.
|4 years 29 weeks ago||not nervous, but excited||
Things were running like clockwork all the way down the field and then, "There's Tree in the endzone!" Excited addrennalin rush --- whoops, that ball didn't have enough zip on it.
"Denard, I'm open headed into the endzone!" Excited - lose focus for a SPLIT SECOND - "awwe butterfingers!"
I think they were really excited to be moving the ball so easily against Sparty right off the bat, and they lost mental focus and made the mistakes. Youthful indescretion. I happens to the most disciplined players, and to the nicest kids with the biggest smiles, as evidenced by those two kids.
They've taken responsibiliy for their parts in the loss to Sparty. They are re-focusing this week for Iowa, they'll have a great home crowd behind them, total surprise on Offense to keep the D scrambling early on, and they will execute this time around. Swap the two weeks around and beat MSU while losing to Iowa and nobody is standing on the ledge this week.
Have some faith (not you SWAngel). These kids believe in themselves. We need to keep doing the same.
|4 years 29 weeks ago||Gotta pick your feet up...||
Yeah I noticed the shoestring tackle thing myself and said, "One high step there and he's gone".
Even if their legs were going up and down in the opposite direction - the Defender just caught the right leg when it was down, but if it had been the left leg down and right leg up at that point......well....you get the idea. Soooo close, and yet it wasn't meant to be or it would have been, huh.
Bring on Iowa!
|4 years 29 weeks ago||In time....||
Denard is just making the correct reads that the Defense is giving (scheming against) him, but as he grows in maturity at QB, he is going to occasionally call his own number AGAINST the "correct read" and do exactly what you want to see - totally exploit a DE by KEEPING the ball when he shouldn't, and beating him 1 on 1.
Jeebus, what if Denard holds the ball and takes two more steps towards the DE with the runner - what is the DE going to do then? Crap his pants. The closer they each get to him before making the decision to give or pull the ball, makes it infinitely harder for the DE to make the correct read and will put himself out of position by guessing. Even a little longer hold by Denard before pulling it out will cause trouble - the hand is faster than the eye.
How about this, and it would take some practice to do it smoothly: What if Denard hands off to Shaw/Smith and the DE cuts back in to attempt the tackle and just as he takes one step in, Shaw/Smith pitches back to Denard who is going around the outside on his typical "follow through motion". A little hot potato action, playing pickle with the DE in the middle. Again, it would take a LOT of practice to get the ball handling down just perfect, but that's what practice is for. Now that play would totally F some minds up, wouldn't it? Entirely within the realm of possibility.
I don't think we've seen 25% of what Rich really wants to do on Offense with Denard at QB.
|4 years 29 weeks ago||DRob and Tree...||
....have been getting in synch in the offseason, and it shows. A year ago, Robinson makes NONE of the throws he is making now. The reason they both still smile about the dropped TD passes and overthrown receivers in the end zone - is that they know they can do it in their sleep 99% of the time now. It is confidence in their ability, not lack of ability. I don't know of anyone in college or pro levels of this sport that have completed 100% of their passes or caught 100% of their catches. NONE.
It's not like the kids lack confidence that they can make those throws and catches, but in all reality it is simply this: what do you do when you get excited and your body emits a surge of addrennalin into your bloodstream - just as you are about to throw or catch a football? What do you do? How do you overcome it? Once you figure that out, you will have icewater running through your veins.
Deer hunters can practice on foam targets for precision kill shots. They repetitiously make the same shot from 10 different positions just so that when it comes "game time", they are as prepared as they can be. As soon as Goliath Buck walks into range, you can just about guarantee that the "repetitious practicer" will have a hard time even pulling the bow back, or keeping the gun steady with all of the addrennalin coursing through his veins. It takes as much MENTAL composure as it does physical, if not more during the high excitement perionds.
That's why a millionaire pro golfer can beat 99% of the common man in the game and yet when a championship is on the line, he can miss a 4 foot birdie putt, because he lost his concentration - mental. Noonan.
You just gotta block it all out and, Be The Ball.
|4 years 29 weeks ago||Bad Stuff||
Why is it that if we would have won last weekend against Sparty and had the bad game against Iowa, that all would seem right in the world - and the FREAKOUTS would not be FREAKINGOUT right now.
I have to assume that Iowa (who we almost beat last year - away - like Sparty) will play a similar game to what MSU gave us. If we capitalize on Offense early this time (I don't think Iowa will have an early answer for us until they get used to what we show them with the New and Improved Denard) and get up a few scores (like we should have done with Sparty), we will absolutely be in the game against Iowa.
You just gotta take the opportunities when they knock. These games ALL may end up in shootouts this year, but if we simply capitalize and then control turnovers to our favor we have the ability to WIN OUT.
That's the insanity of this whole season. As bad as out D is, they still stopped Sparty enough to allow our O to drive down the field and go up early (if we would have capitalized). You can't ask for more than that with these kids. If they give us a couple chances a game for the O to get up a few scores, they'll keep the momentum, and force our opponent to change their gameplan, instead of us having to change ours.
When this team really starts clicking on both sides of the ball, it is going to be absolutely mindblowing to watch. I hope Dave Brandon feels the same way and gives Rich the time he needs to keep putting the pieces together. If the kids love the coach and are playing their hearts out for him, it would be a crime against them to turn the whole f-ing ship over again, just to please a bunch of bluehair donors who can only support a program financially, but never fully committ to it emotionally - which is just as necessary IMO. (All in for Michigan as long as we're winning, BS).
I also say this. That an explosive Offense will bring high level recruits on both sides of the ball, whereas a suffocating Defense won't do much of either. Having a Heisman candidate that runs his own circus, does wonders for getting national exposure as well. The D will come around in time as we pack the stalls with Stallions on O. If we won our games by 14-3, 17-6, 9-0 - those would all be wins - yes - but IMO no "impact players" would want to climb aboard our train to win in that fashion. I think today's kids are built on video game mentality, and they want action. Defensive studs will go where the Offensive action is to play UP at that level, even on the other side of the ball. They too, want to be part of something explosive - not just stifling. Patience will go a long way as we build this thing from the ground up.
Very excited for the future of this program.
|4 years 29 weeks ago||Open Stonum||
In most every game this year, Denard has made quick zips to the first open guy on the read and has been successful in doing so - positive yardage and all that. But man, after watching the Every Offense videos, he is consistently missing Stonum, a shade further downfield who is WIIIIIIIDE open for 6.
I have to believe that the coaches are showing him that in the film studies, and I do believe in time that he will take that extra step, take that extra second, fake the short to mid pass and lay it out there for Stonum, who will go in untouched.
He is already scary good (insane at how far he has come since last year, really), and we have a really explosive Offense -- but it will just get absolutely SICK as the OLine continues to gel, Denard's game matures, and we have HEALTHY backs to compliment him in the running game.
Bring on Iowa and CAPITALIZE on what they give us early on!! And they will give it to us early on until they adjust to what they are seeing. We'll eventually get exploited and get in a shootout, but if we can get up 2 scores and stay in front, we can win this game.
|4 years 29 weeks ago||3 Picks in Loss to MSU||
Lest we all forget:
That was 1978, at the Big House in Ann Arbor and Leach was a SENIOR - and not starting his 6th game as a Sophomore. Bo most assuredly did not have the worst Defense in the country that year either. All things to consider.
I had been faithfully following Michigan football since 1976 and at the ripe old age of 10, was in attendance at this 1978 debacle against MSU. I was a budding young QB myself and wore my #7 jersey with Michigan Pride on a weekly basis to school. Not only did I like Rick Leach, I wanted to BE Rick Leach, and was destined to play QB for the Wolverines in eight short years - as did half of the other young 5th grade QBs across the state of Michigan who were destined to play for the Wolverines as well. Everyone else in my 5th grade class was a Lil' Sparty and those rotten #$%^& were merciless to me after that unforgettable loss that year.
It took me a full year to forgive Leach in my 10 year-old heart for those three picks and that loss to MSU. It took me all of 10 seconds, after I watched Denard light up a smile in the presser after the game, to get down on my knees and thank God above that he is playing for Michigan and not any other university in the country.
The kid is a winner, a quiet and unpretentious leader and a damn fine quarterback. If you harbor any unforgiveness towards the young man for his sub-par performance last Saturday -- and you're older than 10 years of age -- you should be ashamed of yourself and really ought to consider finding another team to support.

Training the young man to not run every time he is snapped the ball has been quite an accomplishment to overcome with his natural ability to find a seam and torch people. I don't know if they'll ever convince someone with his mindset to ever just throw one away.
I think he was used to throwing at slower defenders, and got burned a few times. Practicing against our own D since spring and playing the non-conference schedule we did, he just isn't up to Big Ten Speed yet on his throws. Like everyone has said - the right reads, just a tad hesitant. He'll bounce back and be fine.

I thought all three would have been carried off if he tried his, "not gonna tackle you with my arms, but I'll throw my shoulder into you" trademark style hit. With experience, he knows that Floyd will make the tackle if he misses, so he makes a play on the ball and makes the pick. Experience takes time, unfortunately, but that was a sure pick with a trainload of momentum on your side for a great return.
At least we didn't lose two defensemen on that play.

Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of your Son, Yeshua (Jesus) - the Christ. I thank You for all life, and love, and the faculties to enjoy and give both with each new day. I thank You most of all for the gift of salvation that we find in Your Son alone.
I give honest thanks to You for the pleasure of watching a special young man, named Denard Robinson, use the physical and mental gifts You bestowed upon him to bring You glory with all that he says and does - both on and off the football field. I give to you a growing fear of mine, that there are a select group of unscrupulous players who oppose him, who wish him catastrophic physical injury - beyond what he would receive in a normal game. It is my specific prayer that You protect him from those who would desire to end his season or career by whatever means necessary.
I thank You for Denard's boldness to openly praise You for his abilities, and for orchestrating how he is to use them. I thank you for Denard's humble character, for his ability to lead others by example - and for all the young men who will look up to him, and seek to make those great human qualities their own.
Through the mountains and valleys that we all walk in this life's journey, allow him to fully enjoy the euphoria of victory, and bring him comfort and peace whenever defeat finds him. Continue to bless him in all he says and does - for Your eternal glory. Amen.
