- I believe Red will make the right choice for Michigan.
- I'm unsure any part of Red's performance will be easily replicable by not-Red, especially if he feels wronged with the way a transition is handled.
- If you're talking about actually firing him, underperforming for another two seasons sounds more palatable than axing Red.

My first thought was the Michael Scott "NO GOD NO" gif but it immediately turned to sadness that Brady's problems are completely different. Hoke doesn't have any doubt (and RR shouldn't have had any either) that he's a Michigan Man and won't have that kind of Bust.

With coaching transitions I had thought it was custom to keep a minumum of one guy from the previous staff. Did Strong, Muschamp, Sarkisian, or other coaches with top tier jobs, fire everyone? I know Meyer didn't and RR/Hoke both kept one (Fred Jackson).

It's all good, until you start the ad hominems and saying a big salary means someone couldn't possibly empathize with me. Actually, I'd still be perfectly okay but I bet some people on the internet would call you a jerk or make some counterpoints or something.

If Hoke making $16m is your issue, the blame and anger for it should be directed towards Brandon/MSC/Regents, not Hoke.
I know I'm not going to convince anyone who thinks differently than me, but if someone offered me $16m guaranteed to do a job (even if I knew I wasn't qualified to do it, which I highly doubt Hoke ever thought) I'm taking it for the simple reason that I love my family more than anything I could get paid that money to run.

I don't get what Hoke resigning now gets Michigan. It ends speculation, but what is that really worth to the program, other than confirming some player's opinions one way or another (and incrementally moving up the timeline for season ticket holders to renew)? Same thing with firing Hoke before OSU; assuming you think he should be gone regardless of what happens in Columbus, what's the actual benefit in announcing it before the game?

Still excited from the Kansas State loss or already getting excited about the Iowa State game next week?

I got a glass that says Cidre and four of them for seven bucks, not a bad find to tack on the end of some grocery shopping.

If anyone can find a halfway decent picture of a Vector v8.0 Recchi leftie stick it would help a bit with the sudden realization that a lot of time has passed since I bought my last stick.

I was also wondering where a debate would go on this. Michigan has a lot more money and a more successful athletic department than Minnesota or BC, but to use one anecdotal example Minnesota is getting student season football tickets sold because they're tying them to hockey season tickets; that idea wouldn't even be proposed at a Dave Brandon "what's the stupidest promotional idea you can come up with" meeting at Michigan and it apparently worked for Minnesota.
I'm definitely not pretending to be a be-all-end-all expert but I'd put Michigan in the top three jobs and leave it at that. In football is Texas really a better job than USC, or vice versa?
|1 day 7 hours ago||I think that ties back in||
I think that ties back in with dealing with a legend coach. Red being Red makes me very risk averse about the coaching situation because I believe he's still a net asset and I trust that he'll make the right call about his departure.
I agree with your premise above and think this stretch of comments is all philosophical. I don't think Red will be coaching in 2016.
|1 day 7 hours ago||Maybe the wording wasn't the||
Maybe the wording wasn't the best, but I thought it flowed enough with the second point. I don't think it's automatic that the next coach is an upgrade over Red. I wouldn't say "no, I'd rather keep Red and go .500 than win the conference and go to two Frozen Fours with a new guy". Underperforming would be relative to Red's standard of performance.
That said, if there was a binary choice between firing Red and winning a couple more games or not firing him and losing a couple more, the equation is more than wins per season and should include more intangible variables like what he's meant and what it would mean to have a happy Red around after he retires.

What is Michigan's worst home basketball loss and is there a worse home loss under Beilein than by 23 in 2010/11?
It's not actually a trivia question because I don't know the answer, but I promise I'll upvote someone who answers.

I found a flaw in your ruthlessly logical and well researched preview.
Gardner throwing x/y 10000000000yards 19TD would mean he's passing for 18,519 yards every second and he's only throwing a touchdown every three minutes. What the hell is going on where you think that's a reasonable possibility?

It doesn't make it any better but Spence failed a Big Ten test and McGary failed an NCAA test.
I agree a year for a single positive weed test is beyond ridiculous and I think fifteen or sixteen games for two positive MDMA results is also overboard.
