It doesn't make it any better but Spence failed a Big Ten test and McGary failed an NCAA test.
I agree a year for a single positive weed test is beyond ridiculous and I think fifteen or sixteen games for two positive MDMA results is also overboard.

Turns out a sociology doctorate takes 5-8 years, so Denard 3.0 and beyond could be Dr. Denard. Probably wouldn't do anything on the field but we'd have some fun with it here I'm sure.

Michigan doesn't need any permission from the 49ers to contact Harbaugh.

Nebraska built their new basketball stadium with space for a refrigeration unit and there's a popular program at Nebraska-Omaha and a USHL team in town. The other seven schools without hockey would most likely need a Pegula like donation ($102m with $88m for a stadium) to start a program.

There's a rumor out there that the BTN is paying out $2m to the six BTHC members (Michigan, MSU, OSU, PSU, Wisconsin, Minnesota). If that's anywhere near true Nebraska could get a team up and running and add the womens scholarships they needed for something in the ballpark of $1m in the red each season, but only because their shiny new basketball arena was built with space for a refrigeration unit. If the team was successful they could definitely get to a point where they made Nebraska money.
For the schools that don't have a way to convert an existing stadium they would need a donation like Penn State got (their arena cost $88m and change) for it to be an option because the startup costs are huge. I don't know what the deal is in the Pac 12 though, there might be a couple schools with basketball arenas that could house refrigeration units or nearby pro teams with existing stadiums.

Michigan spends $1.2m on hockey athletes (that's 500k less than basketball but five times what mens soccer costs), and that doesn't include a recruiting budget, coaches salaries, ect. There's the equivalent of 18 full rides to give out each season.
To get a program started the biggest expense is an arena, obviously. I haven't seen anything about ASU but Penn State took $102m to build an arena and get mens and womens hockey started at a D1 level.

Sounds kinky, but I'm sure we'd accommodate it after five consecutive national championships.

Early scouting reports are saying they're really effing fast, although they do take the occasional taunting penalty.

Unless you have some sort of inside info I could just as easily state that he needs to stay to make a comfortable environment for a lot of people and quell factions in the AD.
Hoke shouldn't be meddling in the football program after he's gone but it would be a giant failure all around if he wants to stay involved at Michigan and is kicked to the curb.
|2 days 5 hours ago||Jim & John Harbaugh (Sales Pitch)||
It did work at Dunder Mifflin for a while. Will John or Jim want to build tube city? Who will run the Bullets, Bourbon, and Belles game when the AD runs into liquidity problems? So many questions...
|2 days 5 hours ago||I want Harbaugh as much as||
I want Harbaugh as much as the next guy, but he's not in the same galaxy of career accomplishments as Babcock. Even for the people thinking he'll come, Babcock is more like hockey Belichick than hockey Harbaugh.
|2 days 6 hours ago||Appalachian State. They hired||
Appalachian State. They hired Red Berenson, Jim Harbaugh, John Beilein and Rich Rodriguez as coaches and the Yost family is allowing them the exclusive right to name their stadium after Fielding Yost.
In related news, the USNTDP is moving to Boone and ASU will be visiting Ann Arbor for the 2015 home opener.
|2 days 6 hours ago||That's only about a years||
That's only about a years base salary for Berenson and about half his total compensation. I'd bet the AD would either pay Tech the whole buyout or at least front it for him if they think Pearson is the guy.
|2 days 6 hours ago||Are they planning on building||
Are they planning on building a new arena? I see their basketball stadium dates to 1974 and already hosts MBB, WBB, wrestling, volleyball and gymnastics.

Yeah, let's not do that.
|2 days 6 hours ago||If Apple lets him do it, that is.||
As for Hoke, jobwise I don't know what the incentive is for him to be a coach somewhere else. He's at his dream job right now and if he loses it he'll have enough money that he doesn't have to work again.
I know he puts a lot of emphasis on helping mold young men, but maybe Michigan could give him an outlet for that through the AD at some point.

I don't think this is really a "devils advocate" piece. Clark being responsible for his current situation shouldn't strip him of his humanity, and recognizing that doesn't diminish what his victims went through in the slightest.
That's what I got out of it at least, and I wholeheartedly agree.
|3 days 5 hours ago||F. Clark the final nail in B. Hoke's coffin?||
Poster Bergs was right on the money, so I'll just quote him/her.
This situation is truly terrible, but Hoke made the right/only choice and did it very quickly. Another thing to remember, domestic violence is not a football issue. Sadly this is something Schlissel will need to deal with or prepare to deal with in every facet of the university.

It's amazing how much worse stuff like that looks on a basketball court than it does in football or hockey. No pads? Less common? Mid air hits?
