- You might as well relate the gist of some paywalled content. It'll come out anyway.
- Do not C&P. Rephrase.
- Don't relate every last detail. Leave the paywalled content some value. In this case, "it looks good for Dee Hart and we should be getting good news relatively soon" would probably work.
- If you do so, provide a link. Don't just say "Site X says." The link will draw some traffic, may spur conversions, and will help the site with search engine rankings.

I never said it wouldn't, I said that current revenue wouldn't break even by selling more student tickets at a discounted price.
Taking that 8k ticket block, 2700 tickets at face value and 8k student tickets bring in the same revenue. It doesn't seem plausable that it's a wash on the AD budget.
|15 hours 18 min ago||That's not accounting for||
That's not accounting for lost revenue due to students getting a cut rate though. 8k tickets sold at $50 less is $2.8m over the course of a season.
Selling 20k student tickets at $175 "cost" the AD a good chunk of change.

I don't have a 100% non-biased answer, but I don't think getting a nomination is based on anything more intrinsically noble than what you mention here, and making it a partisan election means one of two candidates will win virtually every single time.
Best case, you get six candidates or whatever and they campaign and people listen, worst case the election is decided by an arbitrary factor other than party affiliation, which I believe has little to do with being a regent in the first place.
|2 days 15 hours ago||I don't disagree, but my||
I don't disagree, but my point was that going through a regents voting record or sitting in on a library board meeting is unlikely to yield much insight into the person's politics and that's what makes a partisan election so utterly ridiculous.
At the very least if there's a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian and Green Party candidate for judge I can see where their allegance will inform their rulings.
|2 days 16 hours ago||Please no :(||
In all seriousness, there are way too many positions decided by partisan elections. I'd venture a guess that the average Michigan citizen's opinion on a state party platform isn't meaningfully correlated with their opinion on how the university ought to be run. Even that doesn't take into account the massive group of people where party affiliation is based on national politics, even further removed from what a regent does.
There are municipalities where a library board election is partisan. Ridiculous, IMO.

You're conflating a lot of things here. Lying (or misleading if you want to be generous) to the media about taking your next job is not at all the same thing as lying five times in an official investigation into your team and your conduct as head coach, so Saban, Meyer and Graham aren't in Tressel's category and I think they could/would meet the standard Michigan has.
There's a lot of smoke around Miles and how truthful or not he is recruiting players, but a lot of his worst alleged practices would be illegal by Big Ten rules. I'd defer to an obviously more knowledgeable AD to make the call on how ethical Miles is or isn't.
I 100% wouldn't want Petrino or Franklin, I don't know O'Leary and Price's stories well enough to give an opinion on the spot, and I'll admit I've forgotten what Carroll did or didn't know which would be the deciding factor for him.
I'm pretty sure Leach was cleared of any wrongdoing and almost definitely got the short end of the stick with an entitled parent and spoiled kid on his team. Assuming that's anywhere near true I'd hire Mike Leach if both sides thought he could win here.
|3 days 10 hours ago||It's not moralizing elitism||
It's not moralizing elitism to say a head coach at M needs to have character that's beyond reproach as a prerequisite to for the job. I don't think Tressel is beyond redemption in coaching, I just don't think Michigan should be a place where a dishonest coach comes to redeem himself.
A leader doesn't lie, the best can't be all about wins and losses, and if you ask me you're not very heroic or valiant if you're ignoring and then lying about a major part of your job.
Just for the record I'm all for paying whatever a top coach can demand, I don't consider myself emo and I think Mike Hart earned the right to say just about anything he wants after four big games vs MSU.
|3 days 14 hours ago||It would be a total rejection of the programs identity.||
Ohio State canned the guy for serious ethical violations. What is Michigan football if that's the new standard we all need to accept, and what makes it different than Miami football or FSU football?
|3 days 16 hours ago||Getting an active head coach||
Getting an active head coach from a conference-mate is different, though. AFAIK Michigan doesn't have a varsity HC they poached from a Big Ten team, let alone MSU/OSU.
|3 days 16 hours ago||If Tressel wants to get back||
If Tressel wants to get back into coaching in 2016 I'm sure he'll have a long line waiting to hire him, but Michigan shouldn't be in that line for any reason.
|3 days 19 hours ago||Have NCAA coaches been fined though?||
Maybe I'm just not remembering some incidents, but the only thing I can think of a coach getting for "bad behavior" lately was Beckman and Vrabel getting reprimanded for dipping on the sideline during a game. Not counting getting fired or kicked out of a game, of course, I mean after the fact discipline.

Can you imagine Denard's press conferences as AD? He could get up there and talk in detail about concession sales at Alumni Field and everyone with an account here would be watching and nodding their heads furiously.
Even better, imagine Denard joining a team at an NCAA tournament. We saw the enthusiasm level for regular season hockey and basketball, but being that fired up in a suit at a field hockey tournament would be a whole new level of awesome.

MBB gets 13 full rides with 5 starting positions, football gets 85 and 15-20 guys are redshirting every year. Hockey dresses 22 and most of them will play or are the backup goalie, I'd say 24 full rides would be more fair and in Michigan's case that would cost about ten percent of the profit the team put into AD coffers.
I agree about baseball, places like Texas or Vandy or whatever shouldn't have a majority of their baseball team paying to attend.
