I agree with you 100% that it would be as nasty as anyone could imagine (and my comments at the time reflect how awful I thought that situation was) but we're living in a world where Hoke was fired on 12/2, not after Minnesota.

I'm not a lawyer either and don't know how much M could save by claiming cause and trying to settle, but that would be a really awful look for the U (maybe not if they fired him right after Minnesota). The PR hit alone would almost definitely cost more than $3m, not to mention it'd be completely outside the norm for coaching fires and would be a pretty shitty thing to do to a guy who was as devoted to Michigan as Hoke was. It could easily affect M's ability to ink good coaches in every sport.
Imagine what the current roster would think if they saw Michigan trying to get out of paying Hoke what he's owed, not to mention the program alums that he had big time support from. It's not a fight worth fighting, even using the most ruthless calculus.

If anyone is interested, cause is defined in 4.02 on page twelve of his contract. Losing football games isn't cause.

There was one in black and white and one with shiny colors. I thought this one would brighten up everyone's day.

Then again, it might be exactly what they envisioned with their sport.

Looking up his ECHL stats he's been with four teams in the last four years, this is his second time being waived and he peaked on games played two years ago.
He apparently goes out of his way to prove he's a scumbag at every opportunity and hopefully for the sake of the sport he's done for good.

Princeton has a 9.9% acceptance rate for 4.0 students, and I'm sure Harvard and Yale are very similar to that. Maybe this guy was a lock at a few of the other five, but I'd bet 3/3 on the Big 3 is a big time achievement and 8/8 is very rare. Every search I'm doing on Google is coming back to this same guy.
It's been about seven years since I went through the process and don't have kids, but it seems like it's trending tougher every year.

I don't think the board wanted Chip to commit.

I wasn't around for Lake Zurich in the conference, and Woodstock...yeah I can definitely believe that.
As an HDJ grad (2008) I was just happy to see a winning record this past season when I was looking around earlier today.

Are the middle generation Johnson's going to be facing any kind of charges or civil suits, or does the power of attorney and the elder Johnson's refusal to press ahead with charges mean they're in the clear?
It definitely seems like jail would be a fitting place for them.

Even for a truly elite student I have to assume the odds of going 8/8 on Ivy admissions are extremely low. Good for him, though, obviously. Hopefully he becomes a successful doctor.

Looking at some old schedules, we managed to get blown out by Grayslake Central my sophomore year (and went 0-3 against you guys while I was in there).
We had a RB in my class go 1-AA but I don't think he even had preferred walkon interest from any of the Big Ten schools.

Has Michigan ever offered a player from the Fox Valley Conference in football before this? Probably need to add a non-Cary Grove caveat but I'm curious if anyone knows or knows how to find the answer.

If Michigan did this, I have absolutely no doubt Enthusiasm Unknown to Mankind would win decisively over the massive season ticket list.

Just for the record I don't either. It's definitely original and if you read the Tribune article they quote a long-time season ticket holder that works in PR that was really impressed as well.
I'm sure they need the help and this is a good way to show appreciation to some of their biggest fans.

Avid didn't need to and shouldn't have included the Bush reference. I'm not going to delete it because the replies have been thoughtful, but next time he/she should be more careful about specifically mentioning recent politicians. To be honest I didn't notice it until there were a few replies, which is pretty standard modding, even if it's not perfect.
Especially with the point being made, George W Bush is hardly the first president with a privliged background. A better comment would have been "90% of presidents" or "pretty much every senator" or something else that didn't single out one guy.

What post in this thread would you consider bashing anyone? I'm sincerely confused where you're seeing this, even as a proud fraternity brother who thinks the stereotyping is mildly annoying.
FYI when a person is actually getting bashed (like your Jayru Campbell example) or isn't a Michigan related story, the comments are almost always critical and the threads almost always get pulled.

Don't post a thread because you're "too lazy to look it up". If anything it usually takes longer to post a thread than it does to search for an answer to a simple question.

I (and the referees) agree he turned enough to give him a boarding penalty instead of hitting from behind, but NCAA rules say the onus is on Calderone to not make the hit regardless of whether the Wisconsin player was turning into it or not.

Two periods still left to play. Stay out of the box and get some offensive juju back and this is still winnable.
2/3 of their goals were on the power play and they're down an experienced defenseman. M can do this.
|1 week 15 hours ago||Calderone needs to avoid the||
Calderone needs to avoid the hit (and is reminded to in the plainest possible language in the rulebook), I didn't see that as 50/50 or anything other than a reckless hit that warranted a major, although I do agree with calling it boarding and avoiding a mandatory game misconduct/disqualification by calling it hitting from behind. Awful decision that has already cost M one.
Hopefully the PK can hold up early in the second.

If you don't think twice before making Tom Brady balls jokes, you're gonna have a bad time.
|1 week 18 hours ago||It's pretty simple, really.||
It's pretty simple, really. The demographics in elite hockey skew towards very well off, educated families, especially outside of Michigan, Minnesota and Massachusetts (although it's generally the case in those places as well). An awful lot of elite youth hockey players come from an upper middle class background where tutors and SAT coaches and parents who have been through the education system are common, not to mention all of the other demographic predictors on their side.
There are AAA clubs where it can run $15,000 per year for a U14 or U16 team, and some teams/places it can get significantly more expensive than that. Those dues aren't even factoring in equipment or time commitment from the parents, and most players are playing in spring leagues, going to summer camps and getting at least semi-private coaching in the offseason.
This definitely isn't every elite hockey player, but it's the same reason any sport that costs a lot of money to play will generally be successful at top notch schools.
