All of this is available at the top of the page, but if you want to check out some "history of MGoBlog" type links here's MGoFAQ, Official Ethics of MGoBlog, MGoBoard FAQ and the User Created MGoHallOfFame.
Also this is meta, not off topic.

You're conflating a lot of things here. Lying (or misleading if you want to be generous) to the media about taking your next job is not at all the same thing as lying five times in an official investigation into your team and your conduct as head coach, so Saban, Meyer and Graham aren't in Tressel's category and I think they could/would meet the standard Michigan has.
There's a lot of smoke around Miles and how truthful or not he is recruiting players, but a lot of his worst alleged practices would be illegal by Big Ten rules. I'd defer to an obviously more knowledgeable AD to make the call on how ethical Miles is or isn't.
I 100% wouldn't want Petrino or Franklin, I don't know O'Leary and Price's stories well enough to give an opinion on the spot, and I'll admit I've forgotten what Carroll did or didn't know which would be the deciding factor for him.
I'm pretty sure Leach was cleared of any wrongdoing and almost definitely got the short end of the stick with an entitled parent and spoiled kid on his team. Assuming that's anywhere near true I'd hire Mike Leach if both sides thought he could win here.

It's not moralizing elitism to say a head coach at M needs to have character that's beyond reproach as a prerequisite to for the job. I don't think Tressel is beyond redemption in coaching, I just don't think Michigan should be a place where a dishonest coach comes to redeem himself.
A leader doesn't lie, the best can't be all about wins and losses, and if you ask me you're not very heroic or valiant if you're ignoring and then lying about a major part of your job.
Just for the record I'm all for paying whatever a top coach can demand, I don't consider myself emo and I think Mike Hart earned the right to say just about anything he wants after four big games vs MSU.
|18 hours 34 min ago||It would be a total rejection of the programs identity.||
Ohio State canned the guy for serious ethical violations. What is Michigan football if that's the new standard we all need to accept, and what makes it different than Miami football or FSU football?
|20 hours 38 min ago||Getting an active head coach||
Getting an active head coach from a conference-mate is different, though. AFAIK Michigan doesn't have a varsity HC they poached from a Big Ten team, let alone MSU/OSU.
|20 hours 49 min ago||If Tressel wants to get back||
If Tressel wants to get back into coaching in 2016 I'm sure he'll have a long line waiting to hire him, but Michigan shouldn't be in that line for any reason.
|23 hours 36 min ago||Have NCAA coaches been fined though?||
Maybe I'm just not remembering some incidents, but the only thing I can think of a coach getting for "bad behavior" lately was Beckman and Vrabel getting reprimanded for dipping on the sideline during a game. Not counting getting fired or kicked out of a game, of course, I mean after the fact discipline.

Can you imagine Denard's press conferences as AD? He could get up there and talk in detail about concession sales at Alumni Field and everyone with an account here would be watching and nodding their heads furiously.
Even better, imagine Denard joining a team at an NCAA tournament. We saw the enthusiasm level for regular season hockey and basketball, but being that fired up in a suit at a field hockey tournament would be a whole new level of awesome.

MBB gets 13 full rides with 5 starting positions, football gets 85 and 15-20 guys are redshirting every year. Hockey dresses 22 and most of them will play or are the backup goalie, I'd say 24 full rides would be more fair and in Michigan's case that would cost about ten percent of the profit the team put into AD coffers.
I agree about baseball, places like Texas or Vandy or whatever shouldn't have a majority of their baseball team paying to attend.

Hockey gets 18 scholarships to break up per team, and there's no limit on counters.
|2 days 1 hour ago||It's not about choice.||
At least for any one institution. The NCAA has scholarship limits set up both for competitive reasons and to make Title IX compliance easier. Michigan couldn't just start making every sport a "head count" (NCAA term for one full ride being one counted scholarship) sport because it would be against Big Ten and NCAA rules and would most likely find the Michigan AD under investigation by the Department of Education.
I agree there should be more scholarship money- most especially for hockey and baseball where those sports make money- but it's a much bigger issue than Michigan choosing to do one thing or another.
|2 days 16 hours ago||I don't think that's where||
I don't think that's where the vast majority of the disagreement comes from, though. I think there are people out there who think threads like this cross the line from "reasonable football related criticism" to "let's tar and feather a man because he lost too many games".
The vindictivness has gone over the top. Hoke's not an idiot. Hoke can coach. Hoke has failed at Michigan. All three of those are true; the guy doesn't have to be the worst coach Bo ever saw two point oh to justify wanting him gone.

The mods will take down a diary or send it to the board if there was an error or there's something really obviously wrong with leaving it up, but LSA and I leave all of the editorial judgements abot diaries to Seth, and from what I remember BiSB is also really hands off there. That said, I agree with moving it to the board (whoever did, it wasn't me or LSA). Generally speaking a diary needs to contain some new information and be significant to understanding a subject, and anything that doesn't should probably be a forum topic. There's a reminder about that when you click to create a diary.
If Ramona is talking about herself, the only real way to delete an account is to ask a mod to cave it. I hope you stick around, though.

One search for Izzo's midnight madness wardrobe will have you lobbying for Beilein to get an extension until approximately 2044. If you weren't already, of course...

I didn't make this into a thread (although it might make a good one if someone else wants to pull some quotes and write a couple things) but there's a fairly interesting article about Jalen Rose going to Providence College's Midnight Maddness. PC is Jimmy Walker's alma mater, the NBA star father Jalen never met and the inspiration for the Ja in Jalen.

I know it's a bye week, but the only other football thread is discussing 2007 DE recruiting and was posted seven minutes before this was. I think the Stitt love is a little strange, but this has always been a weird place.

I'm with you on this issue, only chiming in to say that a tiny percentage of people (even among "big fans") read press releases very often. For MGoBlog's purposes it might be annoying, but that's something a Sports Center watching fan isn't going to be affected by.

Here's an actual M basketball pic for the thread.
|4 days 14 hours ago||What do you mean, first to||
What do you mean, "being the first to cut down Final Four nets"?
Syracuse's CJ Fair cutting down a net for a Final Four berth on 3/30/13, one day before Michigan would beat Florida and do the same. Final Four's have gotten championship rings for 40+ years, why not cut down nets as well?

Endowing more of the athletic scholarships is an especially good idea, IMO.

Terelle Pryor taught us all about research like six years ago.
|4 days 16 hours ago||Is there something specific||
Is there something specific you would do with the money not spent on all the facilities (or cut ticket prices below equilibrium, 2014 nonwithstanding)? I agree about all those facilities being ongoing expenses and needing to be sure bills can get paid in 2024 and 2034 before breaking ground, but in practical terms what's the best use of all this cash the AD is bringing in?
My thinking is if you either keep the cash in the AD or write a (in relative terms) fairly small check to the general fund the better move is to spend it within the department, and unless you can get hockey head count scholarships or spend more on football/basketball/hockey players you're left with academic centers and expensive non-revenue facilities.
|4 days 16 hours ago||Brand identity.||
I remember seeing a story, or maybe a WD comment, about how after Brandon took over a previously uncoordinated group of social media pages for various teams almost immediately all had the same format of name and the same block-M avatar/profile picture.
That in itself might be a tiny thing to praise a guy for, but here's something that cost maybe six dollars that made the entire AD look more professional and unified.
|4 days 17 hours ago||It was an obvious move to||
It was an obvious move to make and I know a lot of people don't care much or at all, but he was the AD that oversaw a lot of upgrades into facilities for non-revenue sports, only some of which are already finished.
|4 days 17 hours ago||Coordinator and assistant pay||
Coordinator and assistant pay in football (maybe other sports, I don't know), night games, committing to spending on first class everything that's useful to winning games in all sports.
Isn't there an AD golf tournament fundraiser that Brandon and Hollis started? If that raises money for a good cause then that as well.
A completely uniform (non-split) block M across the AD, and that's not a joke either.
Edit: Also agree with stephenrjking about the non-football events. The Big Chill was awesome and the Winter Classic looked awesome, the soccer game this summer seemed more successful than any of the other games in the US that series.
