Are you saying Temple has a better football program than Pitt, or that there's a chance Temple could beat Pitt if the played in 2015? Pitt has a seven game winning streak against Temple and is vastly superior in every way historically, even including the recent turbulant state of the program.

It's really just redoing the regional/super-regional but in Oklahoma City. They're in a four team pod with Oregon, Alabama, and UCLA.
Teams come in based on original seeds (although that doesn't matter this year because every one seed advanced) and play a double elimination bracket, with the final two teams playing a best of three series. Here's a picture of the bracket if that helps:
Michigan will play Alabama in game 3 Thursday evening, then either the winner of UCLA/Oregon Friday night (with a win) in game 6 or the loser in game 8, which is an elimination game Saturday afternoon.

I agree 100% with your first point, but I don't think the second holds up. Football tickets go for (approximately) market value . Assuming demand for football tickets is driven by wanting to see live football and not making a donation to the non-revenue sports, the result is irrelevant to the decision to purchase the ticket.
For one ridiculous example, if(/when) Harbaugh wins the next ten national titles and demand hits a point where M can afford to give him a 747, no one is being forced to fund a 747, they're just paying market value to see an absolutely ridiculous spectacle.

I'd slightly disagree that the athletes are the most important variable. If we were talking about their safety or gaining/losing a competitive advantage, of course they're the most important, but both companies make equipment that allows them to safely compete at a high level. In other words, the difference is marginal enough that it shouldn't be the biggest factor.
None of this exists in a vacuum, and Hackett needs to do what's best for all of the stakeholders. For example, for all of those saying that taking less money is a big deal, would you be willing to pay a ticket surcharge to get Nike?
|3 days 14 hours ago||You're probably right that||
You're probably right that they don't need to, in the sense that the lights will still be on and Harbaugh's paychecks aren't going to bounce if they leave money on the table. Still, they spent something like twelve million to get rid of the last staff and Brandon and bring in Harbaugh, the debt service alone hit $15mm last year, and they cut student ticket prices.
Michigan brings in a ton of dough, but on the tail end of a $750mm(!) spending campaign, the cash needs to come from somewhere, and I'm definitely in favor of getting it from Adidas as opposed to more expensive tickets, new ads, six dollar water, ect.

I don't have a problem with even (IMO) overly harsh criticism of something that we all just watched happen, but "Jordan Morgan is a bitch" was something several people had posts deleted and/or were banned over, for example.
We're more lenient with things directed at coaches and administrators, but I must have taken down two dozen threads in the last weeks of football season that went beyond even "Hoke can't comprehend this" to the point where someone posted a thread looking for job suggestions for Hoke with the OP suggesting cleaning toilets at Spartan Stadium.

Someone else chime in if they know more about this than I do, but from everything I've ever seen a director of football ops handles all of the logistical work not related to on-field activities.
He (or his staff) would be planning travel, finding entertainment and team outings when that's called for, coordinating efforts to take care of housing or summer jobs for players and likely coordinating coaches schedules and things like that. Here's a link to a job description pulled from a book on big time college football.
Those duties have virtually no overlap with anything resembling coaching skills or experience. To use a lazy analogy, an ideal chief of staff is almost never an electable politician.

Honestly I do think we're seeing closure, although not happy endings. It all comes down to Don, but other than Peggy, Sally and Roger everyone else seems to have loose ends tied up right now. Pete seems to be reconciled with himself and Trudy and starting over (if it's real, which I think everyone would assume if we didn't see them again).
If the finale shows Roger on a yacht with an eighteen year old model, Peggy reassert herself in a big way and Sally showing sings of becoming her own woman, I'd say those storylines all resolved themselves pretty well.
Then we're left with the one everyone will remember. I'm reasonably sure Don is either going to actually die or that "Donald Draper" will figuratively die in a fairly obvious way.

It's a fast read with plenty of gossip type stuff (Denard getting Twitter mentions from LeBron after ND 2010, Mike Martin partying like a rockstar later that night and TEASER what it took for Bacon to get into the victory party).

Bacon didn't explicitly say Florida, but there's a story about Denard visiting an SEC school and finding two hostesses in his hotel bed when he got back. Devin (who didn't take officials down south) was kind of incredulous, implying that this wasn't the same treatment he got in Big Ten country.
Putting the pieces together, it was probably Florida, but you won't find a passage in Three & Out saying "Urban Meyer did thing x at Florida."

Trying to walk the tightrope between politics and political process, but it's not even as simple as your comment because the loans are administered through the DOE and serviced by banks with lobbying interests as well. A lot of the student aid program is actually done by statute, which means changing anything like interest rates will require rolling back existing programs and prior legislation, which is extremely tough to get done.
I'd be breaking the no politics rule to say much about what I think should be done, but I think most can agree that we've gotten ourselves into a shitty situation.

Assuming they're accurate, he's got some solid figures to back up his conclusion, but student loans are a glaring omission only mentioned in juxtaposition with baby boomers paying out of pocket.
No decrease in demand despite higher prices will push prices even higher, which means there's zero incentive for rolling back any of these new costs. Any real solution has to take the changes made in loans as well as administration (and state funding and shiny new things on campus, and everything else) into account.

To go a step further, you can become a liability in pretty much any profession for things that wouldn't raise a red flag in another*. A history of marijuana possession charges wouldn't kill a comedian's career, but getting into law enforcement would be extremely hard.

I read an HBO executive saying they could hit $400mm in PPV revenue. They don't have the same opportunities for commercials that team sports do, and according to Forbes, the combined ads for the 2012 Super Bowl were "only" ~$245mm (whenever Forbes did their list that was the highest grossing).

I don't follow the NFL very much, apologies if it's obvious, but Gardner had said a few teams talked to him about playing QB. Is he going to be working out as a receiver all the time with the Patroits, or is there a chance they'll try to develop him as a QB, even part time?

Just tear down the banners at Crisler, wipe 3/4 of Denard's stats, take away the Sugar Bowl rings, the WCWS appearance, who knows how many varsity letterman played exclusively during Brandon's tenure should give back their jackets and rings?

I also think the comment you're replying to overestimates how many people are going to value some fraction of $100 more than getting a (relatively) hassle free experience. Basketball has 15 guys on roster, football 115. I don't know how well it translates on the administrative side, but basketball has a coach for every 3.75 players, football the numbers are one for every 10.5. Like someone said above, football sends out 100+ offers, with basketball usually around 10% of that and some years less.

Counting followers is backwards, IMO, but the press coverage and spotlight Harbaugh has gotten is a big positive.
Even if it's irrelevant by August, Harbaugh being treated like a rock star these past five months has flipped the media narrative on Michigan football and bought some time for him to get to work turning things around.
|4 weeks 2 days ago||It's not going to be that simple.||
They just spent, what, ten or twelve million dollars to fire Hoke/Brandon and get Harbaugh? At the same time student ticket prices were cut and there are whispers about Schlissel wanting to get rid of $4 water, plus the bills on debt service hit $15mm last year (at the tail end of a $750mm spending campaign).
I'm not saying Adidas is here to stay or that there are no good arguments for a Nike deal, but the athletes aren't going to be the sole deciding factor; nothing exists in a vacuum.

|4 weeks 6 days ago||For best...||
I see Texas and USC as fairly equal depending on the coach. Carrol was perfect for USC, Brown was perfect for Texas once upon a time. There's a big drop to the rest of the flagships in talent rich states, then the Oklahoma, Michigan, ND ties that have everything except a backyard they can base a program on. After that everything seems more fluid because coaches will leave for better jobs.
For prestige I just don't think Alabama has the glamour factor. FWIW I don't think Michigan does either, and that's a good thing in my opinion.
|5 weeks 6 hours ago||Leaving the whole||
Leaving the whole Harbaugh/NFL thing out of this reply, do you think Alabama is the most prestigious job in college? I might be biased or in the minority, but I think I'd give that to USC without much competition, probably followed by ND.
I don't think "best" and "prestigious" are the same, although Southern Cal has a claim on best as well. I don't think ND is close to the top of "best jobs" in 2015.

His job pays him to eat, sleep, breathe and talk about football. I have zero doubt Harbaugh respects the "manliness" surrounding hockey or surgery or the USMC or firefighters or anything else, but his business is football and he's going to concentrate on and promote it.
If he was Red's replacement or President Schlissel or Gen. Mattis or did FDNY recruiting he'd say the same thing about any of those respective jobs, and there's not anything wrong with that.

|5 weeks 14 hours ago||There's some truth to all these comments.||
I do think there are a few new, loud voices that are bringing down the level of discourse compared to where it used to be (I don't usually say something like that, I think people tend to overrate the past).
The whack-a-mole is a lot less frustrating, it takes all of three or four seconds to nuke an account.
Everything in your post is already in effect, but a glitch on the app still shows the comments a caved account posts. I realize I'm way over the "do as I say, not as I do" line with the last sentence, but every time someone comments, "oh I can only see your posts on the app" it means a troll is making a new account because they're tipped off.
I think changing a few things about registering new accounts could help a lot, but the community itself not tolerating people just here to shit on everything is the all around best defense.
