Meyer had eighteen returning starters, more than half were seniors. The depth chart currently shows six senior returning starters for Harbaugh.
Sagarin had them at the 60th toughest schedule in FBS that year, playing NTM, UCF, Cal and UAB in non-conference play. Their ranked opponents were #20 MSU, #21 Nebraska and #20 Michigan. Things might play out that way for M this year, but I sincerely doubt it.
|1 day 23 hours ago||True.||
But 6-7 is still a win better than M was last year, they had more players drafted than M likely will, and they were playing under a coach that looked at a QB competition of Joe Bauserman, Kenny Guiton and Braxton Miller and chose Bauserman.

In the US, step one is preferably getting past the USA Hockey Regional Camp and getting to the National Camp and getting scheduled in the USHL. From there it's usually getting into and then scouted out of the ECHL or AHL. I said five years, but the NHL guys I've been around have taken longer than that, some quite a bit longer.
AFAIK the National Camp has always been all-male, same with the USHL officials. I believe there are a few women working NAHL games, but the odds of anyone making it are tiny, and women are outnumbered in a huge way.
My guess is we don't see a woman official in the NHL any time soon; maybe the Olympics or another IIHF rules competition. The level of skating ability needed is a big obsticle to being an NHL referee and linesman need to break up fights every night (and they demand elite skating out of linesman too).

|4 weeks 2 days ago||I agree with everything you||
I agree with everything you say, but I want to bring a bit of perspective to the concept of what is and isn't an actual rule for the site.
The FAQ is a great place to start, but it's a total of 455 words and was written six years ago. I'm not saying those aren't the best guidelines, but the stuff that Seth has said along with BiSB, PGB, Zone Left, LSA and myself is going to be more specific, flexible and up to date for day-to-day life on MGo. That's not saying everyone needs to be taking notes or anything, but like you say, "no religion" has been in place for quite a while whether it's mentioned in the FAQ or not.
I think the rest of the mods would agree with saying the line gets crossed when you're calling someone names, trying to preach your brand of religion or posting religious based judgments on someone (Tebow is dumb because he's Christian, Toussaint is going to hell for having a child out of wedlock, ect).
Overall I'd agree with saying don't be a shithead in general. I think there's a good reason a golden rule concept existed pretty much worldwide and predating a lot of intercommunication.

I'm guessing just regular season but I hadn't seen that explicitly. The GM's approved the idea but they need to hammer out details, mainly deciding between the AHL format (7:00 overtime, starting 4-on-4 and going to 3-on-3 after 3:00 and a whistle) and the Swedish format (keep the time 5:00, all 3-on-3).

Off topic to this thread (although not your post) it looks like there's going to be some form of 3-on-3 overtime hockey coming to the NHL.

I should have clarified. I meant when a team had already decided to go for two, not as an alternative to kicking for one.

Sounds like the two point conversion thing is pretty straightforward. Successfully complete a two point conversion and you get the opportunity to throw a hail mary from midfield for one point.
IMO there needs to be some drawback to making the choice to go for it. Why wouldn't a team take that option every time, even if they're just putting in their third string QB to throw a jump ball to their fourth receiver?

I freely admit it wouldn't be easy or pleasant, but I would definitely stand with my national office in this case. I don't really care if this sounds silly or whatever, but you're talking about a small group of people that brought a ton of bad press onto your chapter and your organization at large while going against the values the fraternity stands for. What they did was wrong and I wouldn't want myself or my chapter associated with those actions.
I'm not going to say I'd be eagerly looking to throw acid in their faces, but the thought of losing our charter over not naming names to HQ is just not an acceptable proposition.
I'll also admit I might have felt differently as an active undergrad and not an alum, but I really don't think so.

At .086 you could easily make a mistake and think you're legally able to drive, but I'm assuming Glasgow didn't get up from the bar table to do the breathalizer. Blowing a .086 at 10:00AM means he was either drinking after he woke up, drinking very heavily the night before or drinking heavily late into the night.
Looking it up online, a 200lb male will be at .086 after 8 drinks over a 4 hour period, but again it seems more likely that the BAC was left over from the night before.

I doesn't make it any more relevant or anything, but not everyone is Michigan or even Minnesota or whoever. I think it seems less foolish when it's in the context of EMU getting to play some relatively equal competition in maybe their only chance to play in a tournament environment.

I think he's saying that the going rate for an acceptance letter to Stanford would be half a million dollars, Northwestern $300k, ect. I completely agree and there are plenty of stories out there of million dollar checks buying an acceptance letter at prestigious schools. I also completely agree that in the big picture, money isn't there to pay athletes a lot more than cost of attendance.
The part I don't get/accept is thinking those truths necessitate a ban on outside compensation. I get that EMU football has no money; I don't get why a Ypsilanti business can't pay its offense to come to a company dinner or why M-Den paying Peppers to do an autograph signing is something so awful that a court should uphold a rule against it.

Maybe think about next year as ensuring Red is recruiting the next coach and spends his retirement getting shout outs at Yost vs. rolling the dice one more time.
This might be going out on a limb, but it's also possible there's a method to Red doing whatever he ends up doing that's in the program's best interest.
I definitely admit that's the optimistic view, but there's a lot of reason for optimism for Michigan Hockey at 10,000 feet.
|5 weeks 2 days ago||I'm with you that the||
I'm with you that the better deal is campus sites and a far-away Frozen Four, but remember that Yost for two rounds requires a one seed team. It'd still be possible to go to Grand Forks or Boston for one or both if you're using the stick+bat format and then still need to go back for the FF.
|5 weeks 2 days ago||That seems closer to a good hockey solution.||
I wasn't trying to advocate for one as much as wondering out loud whether people would be in favor of being able to have the first two rounds at Yost if the cost was always playing the Frozen Four somewhere far away, or if the current system was preferable.
|5 weeks 2 days ago||It also seems double secret||
It also seems double secret ridiculous given that OSU manages Nationwide Arena five miles away and in the same town. Wisconsin having to play in Milwaukee every few years (or playing in their old arena in Madison) doesn't seem especially opressive either.
|5 weeks 2 days ago||I agree that the best option||
I agree that the best option is to look at every sport individually, but I wonder what hockey fans would say if they needed to choose between the current basketball formet or softball/baseball with on campus sites and then a permanent championship location.
I don't really think either is ideal, but I wonder how the opinion would break down between doing neutral sites for the whole tournament compared to two rounds on campus and then having Minneapolis or Boston hosting the Frozen Four every year (I'd assume every M hockey fan would take that deal if Detroit or maybe even Chicago hosted).

There are definitely boundaries that can't be crossed, but I think it has much more to do with trying to motivate vs. being a sadistic asshole. Obviously there wasn't a video linked or anything, but I'm guessing there was evidence of the latter to get a coach to resign in season.

I'm just about positive the correct style is some close approximation of "pitcher Megan Betsa" in her first mention, followed by "Megan Betsa", "Ms. Betsa" or "Betsa" once she's been introduced. Commonly known nicknames like "Hutch" are a different story, but that's not the point being made in the comments here.
I want to put this as delicately as possible because I certainly don't think this is anyone's intent, but I don't think the practice of having a less formal, less respectful convention for the only women's team that gets regular attention is a good look for the softball fans on the site.

Michigan hockey nets $2-3mm per year from every source I've seen (Title IX reporting should back this up if you want to go looking). For M at least, football is responsible for the lions share, I believe upwards of $80mm in a $150mm budget is directly football related. Basketball and TV payouts make up most of the rest and hockey puts a little bit back in the pot.
I'm pretty confident on everything above from memory, but there have also been rumors out there of a two million dollar payout from BTN to the hockey schools that haven't been substantiated, at least from what I remember.
