I appreciate this post. I…

I appreciate this post. I thought, and feel we should have, kept this closer, but we didn’t. It’s in the past now, and the overall trend line is looking good, especially on defense - we lost a lot this year personnel-wise, and I feel Donny did a great job throughout the year cobbling schemes together to get the most out of the dudes.

Ten High Straight Sour Mash…

Ten High Straight Sour Mash Kentucky Bourbon. Because it tastes good but doesn't break the bank, much like a win over Indiana.

Good points. I had it…

Good points. I had it calculated out to 28.666 (repeating, of course)% but given your reasoning I've moved that up to an even 29% (well, technically 29.0003333), which conveniently falls in line with your deductions as well.

I also share the sentiment…

I also share the sentiment shared in the title of this well thought-out thread. While the state of Ohio has a vibrant history and a litany of excellent qualities, including forced payment for the privilege of driving on their scenic highways overlooking vast swathes of barren wastelands, there are many aspects of the state that give us pause when considering the overall get-fuckedability of the region. First and foremost is the fact that while a fine university sporting a brave, combative mascot in SE Ohio pre-dates the younger school located in the pit of the aforementioned Ohio desert of semi-trucks and trash, the latter school insists on calling itself a state university with a definite article affixed to the beginning of their title. I'd posit that this ambitious school is simply An Ohio State University, and for their stubborn insistence on demanding more than their stature in the Ohio state education system warrants, I concur with the subject above, or more specifically: Fuck Ohio.

I'm disappointed you would…

I'm disappointed you would misinterpret my post as anything but the staunchest support for habitual whiners and all the good they do for our beloved program

I thought our run game was…

I thought our run game was too successful and took focus away from being able to complain about the pass game. Does this team even think about the fans? Do you think we want to see backs shoving spraypainted helmets into the ground en route to 30 yard gains on the regular? Not if it lessens our ability to whine about how plays from this year resemble last year's because we feel it in our gut on account of that we don't like them and how that's not good. 4/10 overall. plus one point for throwing in a couple of fumble/ill-advised laterals for us to focus on.

This game does not absolve…

This game does not absolve our coaching staff of the astute criticisms they have faced from our all-seeing fanbase. A 50 burger was in sight and they ran out the clock? What does that say about our will to achieve? What does that say to potential recruits. Sure, we beat perhaps our most annoyingly pretentious rival by over 15 safeties, but settling for less than 20 is an obvious indicator of complacency.

I also have a complaint about the weather, but I didn't see an appropriate thread, so I will post my thoughts here. Why did the rain lessen in the second half? If Harbaugh was truly a hard-nosed, hit-em-where-it-hurts coach, he would have had the downpour go on longer. 3/10 total. Cool you won, but deductions for style points. Also covered up the khakis which hurts the brand. 3 is fair.

Fire Bakich while you're at…

Fire Bakich while you're at it.

Efficiency.

Mostly that he hasn't called…

Mostly that he hasn't called plays at all. We don't know what his style is yet, and you could consider Harbaugh is now a "mentor" that you cite above. And to say there was "nothing" akin to his mentors is a lazy comment - there obviously has been. Results aren't there yet but play calls are definitely different than last year.

I agree. JH again denied…

I agree. JH again denied post-game that the qbs are instructed to hand off, just that the "reads weren't there" but I believe they have been at least instructing them to not keep unless it's broad daylight. I think the gloves will come off in big games. We also tend to forget we have two qbs who have had their share of injuries, and a couple of keepers late had me nervous in that regard. I wouldn't be surprised if there's some protectionist thought to the reads thus far.

Yes, JH mentioned post-game…

Yes, JH mentioned post-game that during the false-start line-up, they noticed they were in a block formation that left them vulnerable to a fake and dialed it up on the re-set.

I don't think there's any…

I don't think there's any conclusive evidence of that, considering Gattis doesn't have much play-calling experience we can draw on for a reference. I'll be interested to see how things evolve and how reads develop as we continue to install. I see bright spots of things we're trying, including RPOs, I just see a lot of poor execution at the moment.

I agree that I feel we play…

I agree that I feel we play with a sense of fear as opposed to purpose, but I'm not always sure if I'm projecting my own nervousness onto things. We definitely have some aggressive players with swagger, but too often the game is out of their hands at key times. What would you attribute that to? Key player personnel? Coaching game-planning (electing plays and schemes we can run in our sleep)? I'm truly interested in what others think we could do to raise the confidence and aggression levels. I'm sure boos at halftime and then throughout did not help matters.

I agree wholeheartedly. Is…

I agree wholeheartedly. Is it a risk to install something that much newer with a new play-caller? You bet. But you had better be all in and ride the bumps along the way if you want to realize its potential. We can't compare a new offense in week 2 with fully-formed systems at other programs. Doubly so when we have this scheduling nightmare that was Army, in what was their biggest focus game of the season.

I'm taking solace in that…

I'm taking solace in that this game is an outlier in almost every way in terms of game-planning. I am concerned about the offensive execution, yet we didn't have a great sample size to see it running due to untimely fumbles and low play count. In terms of defense, that is an offense we do not have to generally gameplan for, and I thought we did an excellent job limiting some of their more effective option plays. It's great to see the edge on lockdown, as we did not always have that luxury pre-Don Brown.

There was a lot of complaining in these quarters last year of how manball could get the job done against inferior opponents, but left us bereft of options against better teams and defenses. It will take more than two games littered with turnovers to see if we can prepared something inherently more complex but potentially more comprehensive.

Looking at the box score, I was calmed a bit. So many of our difficulties these first two games can be chalked up to turnovers. If we believe in their somewhat random nature, and that execution within the offense will increase (interception game 1, missed assignments on Shea's fumbles that JH mentioned post-game) and turnovers thus subside, I think we see much different results.

I'm sure everyone would prefer if we came out firing on all cylinders here, but give it more than two games before we're calling for peoples' heads.

Out of the loop here - what fake tweet are you referring to?

It's the last week of August…

It's the last week of August, at least that I can see

The chill is 'round the corner, but it's here for Tennessee

Well, Middle Tennessee, the one in the center.

The one that hasn't yet be known to be much of a winner

But the Maize and Blue do not care who is coming through the door

of their house of large repute while hoping for some scores.

Because it's game week now and their work's made nigh the time,

to announce itself with speed in space and trips past the goal line.

There's Jimmy H, and Joshua G, leading on the troops,

Of Shea QB, Jon Jr, and a slew of hopeful youth.

There's Mean Don Brown, who ain't that mean, spurring on some dudes,

who will look to rip your head off but not target because that's rude.

The Wolverines are ready as their camps have all implied,

Who knows what heights they will attain but they're better than these guys.

These men from Center Tennessee will look round in despair,

Because they'll soon find out they'll want a door to get the hell out of here!

Rumour had it he was Rumsey…

Rumour had it he was Rumsey House, West Quad, just like me! At least that's what our RA told us.

If you're wondering, my voice is at least 2 octaves higher so they did not sort on that attribute.

I'm pretty bad at anything…

I'm pretty bad at anything involving glasses shapes and different models but my buddy used to be a sales rep in the area and eventually across the country and is preternatural at it. He actually got told by a guy from Kellogg Eye Center. So not as much checking around as being told, but "checking around" is a good way to make it look like you did more work on your fashion reporting than what you put in.

The "Fire Bakich" movement this ambitious MGoBlogger started took the baseball team to the National Championship game like a soaring rocket, leaving maize and blue streaks across the summer night skies. Can't wait to see what getting on the "Fire Harbaugh" movement this early will bring this team!

Well, if you're going to be…

Well, if you're going to be literal with the P,D, and the 3R HR mindset, we basically embodied that yesterday, as our defense was on point, pitching great, and we won with dingers. But that's not the point of similarity I see with Earl.

it'd be mis-leading to say anyone really embodies the P,D and the 3R HR concept today, as the entire game has swung very far that way. Earl was prescient, and the game followed his lead. There are many managers today that steal much less than Earl did, and eschew traditional plays like the suicide squeeze and hit and run even more than Earl, it was just that he was one of the first to show open disdain for low-value plays. It also spoke to his roster structuring, as he was more apt to go after a power hitter over someone with speed, or a pitcher over a contact hitter. Because obviously everyone likes good pitching and defense, but structuring a team around those principles is another thing.

However, I think the Bakich parallels are more from his refreshing takes on where to find under-valued concepts in the game. I loved Brewer's quote about knowing Martin was going to run on a ground ball to RF by checking his play sheet in advance. I love the scouting, and his use of pitchers in this run. He's been great at finding value others overlook, something very Earl-like indeed. And again, has some great quips to entertain us along the way.

haha, duly noted. I see a lot of parallels on the clever-quip and game theory-side, but he'll certainly never approach The Earl on the his ump relations, sheer ability to curse, or general fire. But of course, no one does!

If you don't have a middle…

If you don't have a middle-hander like Xi'shian on your roster, does that roster truly reflect America? I think not.

Review That!

Review That!

It looks like some of this…

It looks like some of this info was shared above, but while I think we can all agree the acts in the video were atrocious, there are these points to consider before blacklisting the company:

Fair Oaks is separate from Fairlife - Fairlife is a milk type (lactose-free, cold-filtered) that gets its milk from multiple suppliers. Fair Oaks, the farm where the abuses took place, is a major supplier, but is not the Fairlife company JH appeared for.

As mentioned above, 3 of the 4 employees pictured committing abuses were reported for their acts and fired in the winter. Obviously better oversight could have helped, which Fair Oaks has taken great steps towards, including live video feeds of all areas where calves and cows are handled.

The 5th person, a truck delivery driver, works for a 3rd party who delivered cattle, and while Fair Oaks could not fire him, he is permanently barred from the premise (the firm behind the deliveries may have been too, but I cannot recall exactly).

This is not all to absolve an industry that puts a lot of power over helpless animals into likely disenfranchised low-paid worker hands, which likely and leads to animal abuses. But looking at all the fall-out, it seemed that Fair Oaks and Fairlife are actually trying their best to clean up that "agri-business" system and be more ethical in their practices. I thought the knee-jerk reactions were pretty unfair given the circumstances. I'd be open to learning more about similar steps other farms have taken to clean up the industry, as I don't think demand for dairy will lessen enough to avoid the pressures for these abuses to take place unless distinct actions are taken by suppliers.

Interesting way to look at…

Interesting way to look at it, but we have a pretty bad availability bias as a group - we had good times with Yak and Haynes, and we don't know much about Martelli and Eisley, certainly not in these roles. Gotta trust that we got the right fit with an incoming head coach who is super promising, but assuredly has a different skill-set and modus operandi than the outgoing one.

Very cool. Think he will fit…

Very cool. Think he will fit in well with their system. On the other side, they are noted for drafting system fit at a higher weight than "top of the board" sensibilities, so it has to be flattering and certainly excited to get picked up and paid by their organization.

Definitely would be an odd…

Definitely would be an odd time to leave with the new system going into place looking to get more touches around the board. That also opens up more opportunities further down the chart, especially if, knock on wood, injuries occur. Bummer that these rumors get legs so quickly these days.

Go Blue! Game to game…

Go Blue! Game to game momentum for sure when it comes to hot hitters that are "seeing the ball well" or whatever description of their zone is like (I see similarities between hot goaltenders in Stanley Cup runs), but as mentioned, a different pitcher can completely halt that. It's a new day, and amongst teams that are all similarly talented, the difference between top and bottom is subject to much more volatility than other sports, so let's get it done today!
