This long comment which…

This long comment which provides selective criticism of the amorphous “Michigan fan” nails its critique of a straw man.

I don’t remember Warde getting much heat over Beilein leaving at all. He still has mishandled the hockey stuff and I still think he’s partially responsible for Harbaugh wanting to bolt for the NFL in three straight off seasons.

His absence during the bulk of the Stallions stuff said more than his last minute statements which allowed national narratives to fly out of hand with no counter strategy other than what anonymous folk were doing on social media. Yeah, I’m not going to forget that.

If you think two players, albeit very good players, flips last season than you have more confidence in Juwan fixing anything than I do, specifically defensively but also because he’s staunchly anti-analytics. Sure, they may have been passable, even watchable, but it would only have extended a doomed tenure.

So what could Warde have done in regard to basketball? He could have stuck by the zero tolerance guidelines he previously set in place when Juwan effectively ran off maybe the nation’s best S&C guy.

While Warde may indeed learn, grow and improve in his role he has quite often been MIA when the programs need him. I don’t really have any issues with his hirings; that seems to be a strength of his.

I'm counting on a year zero…

I'm counting on a year zero next year that will also feel much better than whatever this was.

Sorry, I'm sensitive to how…

Sorry, I'm sensitive to how words operate and what they functionally mean, and having been raised evangelical in West Michigan the same language can have a plurality of meaning.

"Earthly failings....." Are…

"Earthly failings....." Are there any other kind? Yes, there is a moral vacuousness associated with on field sports success. Yes, people are more complicated than descriptions assigned to them. While there seems to be a hidden subtext to your comment, even where religion or faith fit into the picture all of this seems contained within an "earthly" context (including the spiritual). Interestingly enough while we are more than how we are viewed, one's character does bear fruit in this life, on this earth and in this reality.

His ego is too big to quit…

His ego is too big to quit now.

Don’t want Tang. My top want…

Don’t want Tang. My top want is Medved. I think he’s good enough to improve his ceiling with Michigan’s infrastructure and smart enough to work around the admissions limitations. Pay him enough to lure him away and I’ll start to rethink my opinions on Warde a bit.

I wish Izzo would go away…

I wish Izzo would go away already. His egotistical shamelessness is only ignorant because he wins and he coaches a clown college.

Only if you’re looking at…

Only if you’re looking at results. The guy has pretty much invented his own offense which is closer to JB than Holtmann. Regardless, Howard inherited a goldmine and whoever’s next gets a crater.

While I was pleasantly…

While I was pleasantly surprised by the decision, I think that Warde waited too long. Hindsight being what it is, his decision to back Juwan in the midst of the Sanderson incident was wrong, and many people pointed that out at the time. I will apologize for the Warde criticism if he knocks the hire out of the park which itself will require a big picture assessment.

Fuck Warde. Where is Santa?…

Fuck Warde. Where is Santa? This guy needs to go. We're going to get another miserable year with no upside.

Fuck Warde.

Fuck Warde.

Ryan Day still heading…

Ryan Day still heading things over there? It’ll definitely be rough beating him with a first time head coach who’s never done it before, and especially facing this much adversity. Wait….

I know the OP is getting…

I know the OP is getting negged mainly for the sentiment and hawt take nature of the post but I’d take JB back as a bridge to the next head coach in a heartbeat. The problem is that that strategy requires too much work and imagination for glad handing Warde.

A new coach. Any of those in…

A new coach. Any of those in the portal?

My friends, college football…

My friends, college football will never be the same. They’re determined to make it NFL light and strip any character or uniqueness from it while they squeeze every cent out of it.

No, the scenario in which…

No, the scenario in which Sanderson would have stayed would have been Warde sticking to his zero tolerance policy. Honestly fuck Warde.

Fire Juwan yesterday.

Fire Juwan yesterday.

With no disrespect to the OP…

With no disrespect to the OP, who the fuck cares? Probably another year of Juwan burning the program to the ground before anything is done.

Fuck

Fuck

The forces milking sports…

The forces milking sports for all its worth while watering down the product care not for my thoughts. How long before ads hit college uniforms?

1) Beilein was perfect for…

1) Beilein was perfect for Michigan because he was first in on players who had basketball skills but may not have been the most athletic and he developed his players better than anyone.

2) Phil Martelli got a lot of good publicity based on one Final Four run. His coaching acumen is far from perfect.

3) Juwan, on top of having questionable coaching methods/strategy, was at his best with Beilein players. His roster building and attempts at certain players have persisted in spite of what should be common knowledge about admissions. All coaches are stubborn, but that presser showed that Howard is unwilling to change in spite of dwindling results. His predecessor adapted. I haven’t even mentioned the off court bullshit.

In summary, best year may be bad regardless, but I’d rather give a new coach a chance to build something from the ashes than let this train continue to careen off the tracks. Warde doesn’t care so Juwan will likely get another year to embarrass the program.

Howard lacks the obsessive…

Howard lacks the obsessive attention to detail Coach B had. On top of that he seems to be a combustible personality. If I were AD he would have been fired the second news broke on the Sanderson thing. I fear Warde will just rest on his laurels because this program is a disaster. I could forgive a step back on coaching and attention to detail if Howard brought the recruiting acumen folk hoped he would have and bolstered areas that Beilein wasn’t as attentive to. Instead everything has steadily gotten worse.

Not sure that's a great hire…

Not sure that's a great hire for Jim. Unless Roman has changed, his scheme had become super stale and predictable. Then again, Jim likely will be way more involved with the offense.

Roster construction is not…

Roster construction is not ideal, but Juwan is philosophically opposed to many of the ways basketball has progressed since he played. The lineups that play together often make no sense (plays two bigs at least all the time). The offense (that I was criticized for being critical of) is simplistic, which is ok, but turns the ball over too often and lacks answers to adjustments. The defense and effort, things I thought would be Juwan’s strengths, have been a travesty. Everything Beilein built is gone as are any excuses. Warde’s too busy watching TV on the couch to give a shit.

Basketball Indiana ‘13 (I was so upset that they blew this game that I punched a hole in my apartment bathroom door. I paid for it but don’t regret it.)

Be careful. Mentioning this…

Be careful. Mentioning this will bring out the “there’s nothing Warde could do” guys. I don’t understand what happened when everyone was full on supporting Harbaugh and then suddenly withdrew the lawsuit, fired Partridge and capitulated. I thought Santa was going to change all this. Guess Warde is determined to seek out the mediocrity he desires.

I feel bad about basketball…

I feel bad about basketball because:

A) I played in high school (admittedly at a low level) so I have always wanted Michigan to have a good program.

B) I want Juwan to work out because I like him and felt the Fab Five was done wrong in a lot of ways.

The fact is that even when Juwan was successful there were signs that it wasn't sustainable, and this team is a travesty on all fronts. I honestly would have fired him as soon as the Sanderson conflict came out, but as Brian pointed out Warde is a coward who almost always takes the path of least resistance. I find it frustrating that having reached unfathomable heights that Michigan institutionally is so dysfunctional that it can't seem to resist attempting an implosion. What happened to Santa? Anyways, fire Warde and Juwan ASAP.

Moore has a better…

Moore has a better infrastructure than Stanford (albeit more turbulent and divided) but a way tougher schedule year in and year out.

He also has moved quickly to…

He also has moved quickly to lock Sherrone down. I'm also no Warde fan, but let's be honest, Harbaugh is a tough guy to work around. He clearly didn't have the organization buttoned up which is where Warde failed most in regard to football (not counting the Mel BS). It has seemed that Warde is just there, doesn't do much and takes the path of least resistance. I would also say that there is a lot we don't know.

As many wins against his…

As many wins against his rival as Ryan Day and none of the Ls.

I could be wrong but this…

I could be wrong but this reads like a lot of ass covering. What happened to signing him in season? Mentions contract amount after the fact as well as Jim’s NFL dreams, pushing a different narrative to combat what I’m sure was thousands of emails/messages from folk wanting to retain Harbaugh. Would love to know what was going on behind the scenes.

It makes perfect sense. He…

It makes perfect sense. He never gave Harbaugh the support he needed to stay long term. Once Partridge was fired it was over. If he doesn’t adapt the NIL strategy Moore is going to have a hard time. At least help the future by canning his ass.

Many people are defending…

Many people are defending Warde under the assumption that Jim wanted to be in the NFL regardless. I think the writing was on the wall as soon as Michigan capitulated to the Big 10 and fired Partridge. It was never about money. Jim never felt the support from the AD. If Warde is blocking NIL progress (as has been claimed), it’s setting up Sherrone or whoever else up for failure. Beyond time to reboot at AD.

Too little, too late. Get…

Too little, too late. Get Warde the fuck out of here. Where the fuck was this in season as it supposedly was? Where was this before Jim interviewed with NFL teams? Wonder if Jim will shed any light on anything.

I’m more worried about the…

I’m more worried about the future at Michigan than Ohio State’s current squad. Their QB situation is worse and they still, to my knowledge, haven’t addressed their interior lines.

Isn’t Outkick on the mgoban…

Isn’t Outkick on the mgoban list? If not, they should be.

Please don’t compare Beilein…

Please don’t compare Beilein building a program out of the Amaker disaster to Howard pissing everything he was handed away. This includes an unnecessary conflict with Sanderson. Fuck Warde Manuel. He blocks NIL improvement and may be partially responsible for Harbaugh wanting to move on. Now he wants to stick with a guy simply because of his status as a legendary alma mater in spite of the evidence that he’s a trainwreck as a coach.

Another reason to wonder why…

Another reason to wonder why the fuck Warde still has a job…

Santa needs to can Warde’s…

Santa needs to can Warde’s ass if what Bacon has been reporting is accurate.

Whatever the Warde defenders…

Whatever the Warde defenders may think, if a lifetime deal isn’t done to Harbaugh’s liking he should be fired.

I don’t believe the author of this post is truly a Buckeye fan. Too well written and takes rational positions.

Was excited about the RichRod era and searched for any info I could find. Naturally found Mgoblog which was more than a blog, it was a community.

Before "Signgate" he also…

Before "Signgate" he also defended Urban Meyer to the nth degree after pretending he cared about morality. He's just the rare Buckeye who can string a few sentences together without seeming like a complete tool which is why he rises to the top of that cesspool. They made the '23 game a referendum and now they get precisely what they deserve, a narcissist coach who can't learn from his failures so he launches a PR campaign to take down his rival. The campaign works but the rival team's culture is so strong that he gets owned by the understudy. I hope they never reach the heights of success again. May every Ohio State supporter be miserable with their team forever more.

Fuck 'em both. You don't get…

Fuck 'em both. You don't get points for coming to the obvious conclusion after being obviously wrong for years. Ari is no better than a complete homer who devalues coaching, culture, development and preparation in exchange for the science of high school scouting (which itself has gotten lazier and worse over the years. Thamel, Finebaum, Mandel and Wasserman can all go to hell.

Bargain bin Ohio State (with…

Bargain bin Ohio State (with Stroud). Worse defense by far. Clean up the mistakes and we stuff them in a locker and tell the rest of the CFB world to fuck off and go to hell.

Minter has been…

Minter has been significantly better on leverage downs and has done more with less edge talent.

Decent folk don’t hire a PI to try to trash their rival off the field as an attempt to excuse their ineptness on it.

Nah, fuck that guy and can we stop linking his shit?

For all the talk of his…

For all the talk of his perceived conference foes, his real rival may be the sauce.

For as much as it’s fun to make fun of Frames, he’s gotten them closer and made a couple of great hires. Glad we miss them on the schedule next year.
