Political opinions are like bellybuttons. We all have them and there are few which I wish to be exposed to more than once. That being said I think it's great to get some of the local flavor of the election since a lot of us may not be living in A2 or nearby environs. If Brian wants to give us his view of things on the main page once in a while it's cool (other wise I look forward to the launch of A2goblog.com).

The talk about housing hits home a little because the wife and I wanted to move to Ann Arbor a few years ago from the Wixom area and the prices were crazy, even when we knew we were paying a high premium and could afford it. Maybe we were a little optimistic to find something close to downtown but the lack of new construction killed the idea. The places we found had wiring  or plumbing from the Eisenhower administration (which is cool if thats your thing but we didnt want to spend a lot refurnishing a place) or was shoehorned in whatever plot of land appeared between two other houses.

I can only imagine how rough it can be if you just got a job in Ann Arbor, get all excited to move with your family and find that your basically priced out of the local market. So I'm on the let's get some more development side of this, at least maybe help the market demand a little.

As to the train station, I can see the idea of improving the station to make it look nicer and be more accomodating for those that use it, but let's not kid ourselves that people will flock to the train. I just did a business trip in Germany where all the travel was via trains and it was awesome. But it wasnt because of the cool stations, it was because German trains run, well like German trains. It was fast, efficient travel. As others have said, the Amtrak line is neither of these, so creating a new Grand Central Terminal will just be a waste for the future.

TL,DR: Occasional politics is okay. A2 needs housing because the market/demand is looking for it. Dont fool yourselves into thinking a new station will make the train be cool.

Any idea on where in A2 it is?

Before we moved a couple of years ago we looked really hard in Ann Arbor and couldnt find a place for our price in an area we liked and the areas we liked were hella overpriced.

Definitely the craziest I've seen since 2003 Tour

There was a stage where the rider lost it in front of Armstrong, who then swerves off the road, and rides down a hill to get back to the road. He then had to jump off the bike, carry over the ditch and jumps back on in time to get in with the peloton.

I also was wondering why Froome chose to start running. I'm guessing he wanted to get out of the way or maybe clear himself to find the guys with the spare bikes, but continuing running was just weird. One question, would he have avoided a penalty or issue if he had carried the busted bike with him?

Voted Spring Game but it was close

The smile in the spring game is just pure happiness and joy. Its the smile of someone who achieved a moment of zen and achievement that they wanted.

The Grinch smile is definitely awesone, and has that mad scientist vibe going for it, but what was the story behind the smile? Outside of it happening at the BW3 bowl does anyone know what triggered it?

Edit: Also, I would say if we were doing a 30 for 30 on Michigan in this period, the Grinch smile is in your opening montage as the perfect "the villain" look. The Spring Game smile is your closing shot.

About the campaign by Anson and others to lobby Harbaugh

Though at the time we heard that there was a push by the past players to court Harbaugh, I didnt realize the level of coordination and effort involved. One thing that surprised me the most was the seeming nonstop calls, text, emails the group arranged to make sure Harbaugh knew how much he was wanted by the University and Football community.

Did Anson, et. al. ever worry that they may be pushing too much and that it could turn off Harbaugh? How big of an effort was it in terms of people who reached out to Harbaugh? Are we talking dozens or a hundred?

Thank you again for writing such great books about the state of Michigan football over the last few years, and hopefully future members of the Michigan community use it as a guide of what can happen when we stray from the core ideals of our university.

Was expecting a Fred Gwyne picture from My Cousin Vinny?

What is a "Ute"?

Believe they went with Quantum 2

They had a backup plan to go to Quantum 1 after an incident with a pothole a few weeks ago, but stayed with Q2 for the race. I think Q2 is beter suited for the race and it a better vehicle in general.

Loving how this team has taken on the last three games

This team is coming together and finding ways to win.  I think they are going to make more noise in the tournament than people thought they could at the beginning of the season.

I LOVE THIS YEAR!*

The '99 race (Sunrayce '99) started in DC and ended in Orlando

Georgia Tech was a stop for us and we got to stay in the dorms (I think they were the olympic village apartments from 96). Whole race was basically one big rainstorm but we got to hang out in Orlando and show the car off at Disney.

After the game...

BTN is showing a documentary on the Michigan Solar Car Team's recent trip to the World Solar Championships in Australia. For those of you who have read about the team on mgoblog or seen them around it will be a good way to see whats involved in solar car racing and why Michigan is one of the bests teams in the world at it.  So celebrate a Michigan victory while watching Quantum race in Australia or (in the very unlikely case of a Michigan loss) enjoy watching Michigan dominate in a sport where State can't come close to competing against us.

Thanks Dave Brandon.

I now get to look forward to reliving "The Horror" throughout Summer, 2014 in preparation for this game. My shrink will be naming his next boat Brandon's Choice by the time he's done.

Bo and the '06 Game

I still believe there needs to be a 30 on 30 about Bo's death before the '06 OSU game and what happened afterwards with the discussion of who should play for the national championship. It celebrates a known sports figure, a big time rivalry and what was a pretty heated discussion in the runup to the selection of the national title game contenders.

On the Japan goal

I think it was mainly caused from fatigue and pressure after playing 108'. Angerer had all her momentum going left and couldn't recover when the shot started going right. I agree that she could've come out to cut the angle, but I think thats where the combination of fatigue/pressure/adrenaline kicked in. If a similar situation happened 18' into the game, she covers that up no problem.

ESPN needs to fix their short

ESPN needs to fix their short bio on Gibson, on the insider draft page it shows him as going to tOSU.

Question about eligibility for the draft

I get how people like TP or some others can apply to be drafted, but can those who applied to the original draft and went undrafted go into it as well?

Friend of mine was trying to talk me into going into the cash version of one of the sites earlier this week. Thank goodness I didnt decide to go signup.

Unless theres some other legal issue going on, I agree that this is likely the federal governments first step before trying to make the online gambling legal. I'm more surprised it hasnt been brought up more recently since its just another revenue stream for the government if they can tax winnings.

That is one sexy looking car

The teams really taken this one to the next level. I was on '97 and '99 teams and it's true that our cars were built a little more robustly than other teams. The result though was cars that never had any major mechanical breakdowns.

Tom Mees

My favorite pbp guy was Tom Mees, but Gary Thorne is good for a national pbp guy. I like Ken Daniels as well, but I think that had something to do with Redmond in the same booth (my favorite hockey color guy)

Dont forget the minor sh*t

Dont forget the minor sh*t storm that happened when the Hockey committee decided to change the rules on what a TUC is midway through the season. I think it would be better at figuring out the bubble teams that should be in or out, but I think joeyb is right that it might be too difficult to correlate results.

As to subjectivity, I think that there can be some subjectivity in the selection process, but there's been a lot of Wha?! picks the last few years and adding an objective data point like an Pairwise would be a good way to take out some of the uncertainty.
