Leopolds was the spot for my friends and I in 2001 + 2002. I, of course, had mostly drank shit beer until that point in my life, so Leopold's was the greatest thing ever at that point. Loved playing cards and board games while drinking.
I'm kind of glad its gone now that I know what good beer tastes like. I'd likely be very disappointed.

Also the glory of Sling is that I can just log in to my account and add/remove services ad hoc without having to talk to some sales rep who is reading a script to try and sell me shit I don't want.
I added the $5 sports package to my Sling last night once I noticed the Tennessee game was close in the 2nd half. In under 2 minutes I was watching SEC network and didn't have to speak to a single person.
This is the way these services should work. Hopefully the likes of Sling and Playstation Vue push these caveman thinking cable companies into the 21st century.
|28 weeks 5 days ago||Still cheaper||
I just moved and Charter wanted to charge me (their promotional rate) $150 per month for Internet + Cable on 3 TVs. That was the "holy shit" package that had about 400 channels I'll never watch. They wanted $110 for their "basic" package on 3 TVs.
Just internet was $40 for the promotional. I usually only get the $25 Sling package during non sports season. I'll up it to the $45 for the next few months. And I can watch it on 4 or 5 devices for no extra fee like cable. And I can watch it on any device unlike cable. I don't need a crappy power hogging cable box unlike cable. Couple Chromecasts and I'm good to go.
I'm probably going to check out Playstation Vue as well. Their $45 package gets you BTN.
HD antenna + Tablo makes it so you can DVR and stream OTA TV to all devices in your home.
There are some large up front costs to cord cutting, but once you go about 5-6 months, you get into the black.

Four conferences, 16 teams each.
Each conference has 4 divisions. Round robin scheduling like the NFL does. I.E. Everybody in B1G East plays everybody else in B1G South this year. That way schedules are as balanced as they can be as far as determining division winners.
Each conference has a 4 team playoff.
Each conference winner enters the 4 team National Playoff.
Effectively, you now have a 16 team playoff.
The polling system can still exist for the purposes of Hot Takes, but otherwise we burn it with fire.
|43 weeks 1 day ago||Those away games||
Those away games are what causes me to warn people to pump their breaks. Those 3 teams went 34-2 in the regular season last year. They each have some turnover to take care of, but I wouldn't expect OSU or MSU to suddenly become 8 win teams. Those two games especially are going to be brutal. Thanks Brandon.

A good router can fix those issues. Recently cut the cord and was having some issues initially. Bumped the router up to an ASUS 3100 and now get much more reliable 802.11ac coverage and speeds throughout the house.
Moho Leaf + Tablo = Broadcast TV streaming with DVR.
Sling = AMC + ESPN + TNT + TBS
$37 a month between those three things gets us abou 90% of what we used to watch on Cable.
If BTN can hit Sling by September, I'm in good shape. Otherwise, I'll get some kind of super basic cable package that gets me BTN and BTN2Go for a few months.

Nobody is going to show up in August and be told to come back in January for their Grey Shirt.
Juniors with no injury histor are all of a sudden be told to take a medical because there's a freshman who needs his spot.
5th years aren't guaranteed. Kids who graduate and have eligibility have every right to go find a better opportunity.
He brought up the Falcon thing, but that is an example of a staff being up front with a kid and telling him that they don't think he'll ever be able to play again, but if he still wants the free education, come get it. Also, he was told this months before, rather than days before, signing day.
He's a troll.

TOP is a response variable, not a predictor.
You don't set out and say "We want to run the ball, and have a defense that forces a lot of three and outs.... Therefore we must crank up our time of possession to do so."
You set out and say "We want to keep the ball away from the other team as much as possible to limit their scoring oportunities.... Therefore we need to focus on running the ball and having a strong defense that forces three and outs and turnovers."
As the great 21st century philosopher Jack White once said "You can't take the effect and make it the cause."

Agreed, they've had this issue for years. I stopped even bothering with their Sunday morning programming. Sometimes they'd get it fixed, other times they wouldn't.

|1 year 33 weeks ago||The solution||
Four conferences, 20 teams in each.
Each conference consists of four divisions, 5 teams each.
Scheduling is handled like the NFL does. Each season you pit two divisions against each other to get as close to schedule balance as possible. 9 conference games. 2 out of conference games. Each team plays 11 games total.
Each conference has a 4 team playoff (the 4 division winners) on Thanksgiving weekend + the weekend after.
The four conference winners move on to the already established 4 team CFB Championship playoff.
Non playoff bowls remain in tact.
Boom, you have a psuedo 16 team playoff with "decent" balance.
If there's some team who sets the world on fire, and isn't part of the 4 "power" conferences, so sorry.

Gives the players a chance to still have their own identity and make a name for themselves, possibly becoming a legend jersey down the road.

|1 year 37 weeks ago||Negotiate||
Very rarely in life are you paid what you're worth. You're paid what you can negotiate.
We've proven to Nike that we will go get that money if one of their competitors dangles it in our face. If they wanted Michigan back in the fold so badly, they were going to have to make the deal sweet enough to pull it off.
I'm sure there are piles of market research that back up the deal too. Michigan brings a whole bunch of customers to the table that places like FSU simply don't. It will be interesting to see what OSU does when their contract comes up.
EDIT: Oh, and it probably helps that we have an Uber high profile football coach who will now be donning the swoosh everywhere he goes.

That hubris that leads them to believe that they can brute force their way to the top is fascinating to watch in action though.
I guess it makes sense. What they can offer players is regulated. So Vivek is going to throw bags of money at coaches and front office guys to try and get it done. Good luck, but your only ways to win in todays NBA is to draft a future hall of famer or two, or find a way to lure free agents. The latter is pretty impossible to do in Sacremento.

Once I went in to the office and handed them all the hardware, that's when they made me the best deal. They gave me everything I had for $105 per month for 12 months. Then after that was over, it only went up to $130.
Do everything you can to show that you are a flight risk, and they'll do everything they can to make you happy. They bully people on the phones because it works a high percentage of the time. You have to show that you're an exception to the rules they've developed.

"The Domino's Pizza 4 larges before halftime challenge."
"The 8 pounds of Mac 'N Cheese challenge, sponsored by Kraft."
"The Buffalo Wild Wings Blazin' Challenge - eat 50 wings in 10 minutes and we upgrade your seats to a suite!"
|2 years 36 weeks ago||Yikes||
Yikes, that's how you end up with spit in your food, Mr. Elway.
|2 years 36 weeks ago||Sad||
Yes times have improved in that we're hearing Michigan and Kentucky in the same breath, but I agree. I still default to feeling we'll never sign the kid as soon as we go up against a Kentucky/Duke/UNC.
|2 years 36 weeks ago||Jimmer||
Nik is Jimmer... Except 4 inches taller, can dribble, can play the pick and roll, and can pass.
|2 years 36 weeks ago||Impressive||
Impressive, but what do the flight trackers say?
Because I live for Cleveland Schadenfreude, I hope this is all part an elaborate troll.
|2 years 36 weeks ago||I hate to say this||
I hate to say this, but I like how Narduzzi does things. In the booth for the first 3 quarters, on the ground for the last quarter. By then you've seen their schemes and now it's time to be in the middel of the fight.
|2 years 36 weeks ago||Game management||
I admittedly don't watch much OSU, but was curious about you saying our game management is better. Given our inability to conduct a 2-minute drill to save our lives, and the cluster f***ery that was UM v Northwestern the last couple years... Can OSU's really be worse?
|2 years 38 weeks ago||But||
But how does she feel about American flag speedos and chiuauas?
|2 years 38 weeks ago||Needs||
The Pistons basically need everything except a starting center. Losing their first round pick really hurt.
|2 years 38 weeks ago||At this point||
At this point, I'd say we're safe for another season. The NBA didn't steal any NCAA coaches and there really weren't any high profile NCAA firings this year to trickle down to mid majors having to do coaching searches.
It's only a matter of time though. I think the secret is out how good our assistants are.
|2 years 38 weeks ago||They||
They were nazis Walter?
|2 years 38 weeks ago||Agreed||
Agreed. The telecom companys are operating like the 5 families in The Godfather. They all agree to stay out of each other's turf and, now with Net Nuetrality near dead, they'll be sending Tiny down to your grandpa's party store and charging him extra to operate in "their" neighborhood.
They've even gone as far as reaching non-compete clauses with city government's in exchange for the governments agreement to not install government run fiber. Because it is actually super affordable for local governments to instal fiber.
The first major dominos that need to be toppled over are the colluded shared monolpoly that the cable companies have.
The second major domino is classifying the internet as a utility. It is safe to say that the internet is more important than land-line telephone now-a-days.
The third major domino is some kind of ruling that stops the ESPNs and AMCs of the world from creating n-ary networks that they then bundle to the telecoms, who force the prices down to the customer.
Unfortunately we'll likely never see it in our day. Netflix and Google are helping, but they'll only get so far.
|2 years 38 weeks ago||Basically||
Aereo definitely exploited a convenient loophole in the law. The law is there to protect the folks who want to put an antenna on their roofs and still receive broadcast televsion. I suppose it was only a matter of time before somebody found a way to monetize that.
It's disappointing because in 2 years Aereo has built a system that is far superior to Comcast's. Their guide is easier to use. Their DVR is better. More connectivity options. Everything.
But yes, it all comes down to greed. If Aereo were allowed to exist, then the deals that Comcast, DirecTV, etc. have with NBC/ABC/CBS/Fox would have to be redone.
Then NBC can't afford to pay the NFL. Then the NFL moves to 100% cable.
If anything, this ruling shows more than ever that we need a truly a la carte model. People are more than willing to pay $8 per month just for 10 basic channels, as Aereo has proven.
Corporate greed keeps us from having nice things.
|2 years 38 weeks ago||Obvious||
Obvious damage control is obvious.
Bbbbbut juuuuuudge! We've already made all these improvements so the athletes can really be students. Please let us keep our bags of money.
|2 years 39 weeks ago||Hoops||
The way that people who had held hoops season tickets for the decade of suck only to be relocated now that the team is good and people with deep pockets wanted to start going to the games really rubbed me the wrong way.
Better monetizing your product is one thing. Spitting in the face of loyalty to get there is another.

Also entirely possible that there was some college savings that could be directed toward other means now that college is 100% paid for (until Saban cuts him).
Friend of mine's parents remodeled the entire house with his and his brother's college funds once they went to one of the military academies and didn't have to pay a dime.
That being said. If I were a betting man, I'd always bet that these kids got the cars by shady means. I feel I'd win over 50% of the time.
|2 years 45 weeks ago||#footprint||
Just as the over commercialization of the pro leagues made me stop watching them, the over expanstion and commercialization of the NCAA will eventually lead me to stop watching and supporting them as well.
It's sad, but the reality of it all. Human beings turn into raging douchemonsters when money and politics get involved.
|2 years 46 weeks ago||You say that||
You say that as if somebody out there wants Jennings and his contract.
|2 years 46 weeks ago||Good thing||
Well good thing we'll have McGary to bust that 2-3 zo.... Shit.
|2 years 47 weeks ago||Not like this||
|2 years 47 weeks ago||Overstate||
Listen, I think the most likely reason is he flat out picked OSU. Why wouldn't he? They've lost 2 games in 2 years and have a potential juggernaught of an offense coming this year. We've lost 11 games in 2 years and don't know how to run forward. No Bullshit.
That being said, the academics argument is plausable. No Bullshit.
Nothing was overstated, those are the rules, plain and simple. You have to have never transfered before, have one year of eligibility left, have finished your undergrad degree, and be seeking a graduate degree in a field that your current school does not offer. No Bullshit.
As for gaining admission to Michigan grad school, they don't make the same exceptions that the undergrad programs do to get athletes in. Nor should they. No Bullshit.
And it's not like we've never recruited players before who ended up not getting passed the academic/institutional road blocks. No Bullshit.
|2 years 47 weeks ago||In this case||
In this case, it's plausible. In order to grad transfer your new school has to have a program your current school does not. You also have to be granted admission to sed program.
Michigan doesn't exactly have bullshit grad programs in basketweaving. Rackham is also not the easiest thing to get into.
|2 years 48 weeks ago||Exactly||
Exactly. Everybody is so affraid of admitting mistakes and lessons learned. It seems to be even worse in sports. Like you're admitting weakness or something.
I'd be more worried if they looked at last year, said they did everything right, and it just needed more time. They changed the OC, changed the leadership structure around to give the young guys a voice at the table.
Ultimately the product on the field will be what they're judged by, and they know this. How they get there is hardly relevant.
|2 years 48 weeks ago||When listening to WTKA||
When listening to WTKA this morning as they were discussing GR3, my instant thought was that if he could land on a team with a great coach like the Spurs, he could really learn what he needs to learn to have a long productive career.
He needs to land somewhere that knows how to take advantage of his particular set of skills.
|2 years 48 weeks ago||Fun Fact||
My Computer Science degree is technically from LSA. I'm a half Engineer, half Liberal Arts hybrid bastard child.
|2 years 49 weeks ago||I think||
I do think this is the most likely reason. The guy reads crazy books and writes guest articles for the Huffington Post. It's highly likely he's just executing his plan for post-basketball.
|2 years 49 weeks ago||Super Crazy Idea||
Technically, if all the underclassmen stay we were going to be over the schollarship limit for 14/15 (allbeit for a day once Austin Hatch was turned into a medical)...
|2 years 49 weeks ago||Ah the media||
Ah the media, how I loathe thee.

|2 years 49 weeks ago||Wow||
|2 years 50 weeks ago||Oh man||
Oh man, you just got me excited for the posibility of Trey and Nik on the same NBA team...
|2 years 50 weeks ago||Off base?||
Off Base? Have you seen some of KCP's statlines? Do you know what Club Trillion is? The OSU bench players who made it a point to get 1 minute played, and all zeros on the stat sheet, i.e. the stat sheet looks like it says 1 trillion.
KCP has had nights where he's in club 10 Trillion (Feb 18). His stat lines are abysmal, and you're comparing him to late 1st, 2nd, and undrafted players. Not top 10 lottery picks.
19 ppg and 38% from 3 on one of the worst teams in a pretty bad college conference are inflated numbers.
Dumars has a history of attempting to out "hunch" his fellow GMs. That seldom works well.
|2 years 50 weeks ago||NCAA||
Just another odd thing about the NCAA. An 18 year old can sign himself up to go to war, but can't sign himself up for a free college education without the blessing of his mommy.
|2 years 51 weeks ago||A run||
A run for positive yards followed by another run for positive yards. Or maybe I'm just being fickle.
|2 years 51 weeks ago||Agree||
Agree with both of you. A combination of not recruiting enough good bigs, and the fact that our offense requires so much spacing to work, that it just looks like a car running on a flat tire every time we run 2 bigs out there.
If GR3 and Mitch stay, I don't see how GR3 isn't the starting 4 again. The best 5 are clearly Walton, Irvin, Levert, GR3, Mitch.
The only thing working against these guys is that this draft is loaded. There will be 2nd rounders who would have been lottery picks last year. They'll have to dazzle at the workouts.
|2 years 51 weeks ago||When we||
When we argue amoungst ourselves who are and aren't "Walmart" Wolverines, the Sparty Terrorists have won.
It's a horribly stupid attempt at an insult, created by a paranoid, Napoleon-complex laden fan base of a school whose best academic programs involve farm animals, grass, or cardboard boxes.
Stand proud for what you are, who you are, and whom you choose to support. Your reasons for doing so, no matter what they are, are better than their reasons for lobbing insults. Therefore you win.

|3 years 1 week ago||Yeah but||
Yeah, well, they're still the worst franchise in the NFL not from Jacksonville.
|3 years 1 week ago||2 OSU||
It involves 2 girls from OSU, some rubber gloves, and an emu.
|3 years 2 weeks ago||Yup||
Yup, and it is spot on. Borges offense felt a lot like GERG defense (which I know was not all GERG's fault). That thing we tried one time didn't work, let's change everything.
Or "What? We have a bye week? Well let's install something COMPLETELY different in 10 practices instead of getting better at what we already know."
Or "Forcast calls for 40MPH winds this weekend, and I have the best running QB in the history of ever... I better drop him back 30+ times."
Or "2 minute drill? So, lets see, that means we only have enough time to run 3 plays."

|3 years 3 weeks ago||He's Mad Now||
I think my favortie part of the "He's Mad Now" gif is that after the absurd behind the back dribble and fade away 3, Beilein shows a little exictement with a clap and slapping Jeff Meyer on the knee.

|3 years 7 weeks ago||Imagine||
Imagine if the Pistons had drafted either Burke or THJ last year... Likely would have been lottery again in 2014, and if they could have complemented with either Marcus Smart or Gary Harris....
A backcourt of Burke and Harris would be absurd.

How about Coach channeling Novak there and having an anneurysm of leadership? Amazing.
|3 years 10 weeks ago||Valenti & Foster||
Valenti and Foster love having little tickle fights with each other over the state of Michigan football right now. They haven't gotten to do so their entire lives. Let them be and just turn the dial.
Since Foster was on the U of M beat for a long time he acts like he has connections to the program, and uses that to spew bullshit. I bet not a single person inside Schembechler even has Terry's phone number stored in their address book.
|3 years 10 weeks ago||Headphones||
I had to switch to headphones, was the only way I could hear without sitting with my ear against the speaker.
|3 years 10 weeks ago||Maybe||
Maybe because the basketball team was actually capable of running an offense that scored points and didn't need something similar to a Dileo-sliding in the rain cluster-bleep of a field goal attempt just to tie the game... at 9... after regulation...
Oh and the whole Michigan lost 2 first round NBA draft picks this year, 3 if you count McGary.
Oh and Coach B gets a little bit of leniency seeing that he has a long-ass career of being a pretty damn good coach.
|3 years 10 weeks ago||Were you||
Were you under a rock during the whole Cam Newton is suspended because his dad took cash, no just kidding Cam can play because he didn't know his dad took cash... thing?
How do you go from being horrible, to winning a national title, to being horrible, to almost winning another national title in the course of 4 years?
It aint by doing things the right way. It's by paying players and guiding them through favorable Junior Colleges that can get the eligible quick.
Open up thine eyes, good sir.
|3 years 10 weeks ago||Fantastic||
Comments like these are why I'm glad the old voting system is back. You made me smile, I click the green arrow. All is right with the world for the next 5 minutes.
|3 years 10 weeks ago||Did we||
Did we hire a completely new offensive staff today and I didn't hear about it?
Oh, well, then, no. No we can't turn it around like Auburn did.
They have JUCO's to fill in the pieces. We do not.
They have, um, boosters who do extra special booster type things. We do not.
They have an innovative coach who looks at a brick wall and thinks "There's gotta be a loose brick in there somewhere I can exploit." We have a coach who looks at a brick wall and thinks "I bet if we run right at it a bunch, it will eventually fall over. What? We're down by 20 already? Well I guess we better stop running at this brick wall. What? We're up by 10 now? Time to go back to working on running over that brick wall."
Give me a system that focuses on doing 4 things obnoxiously well over a system that focuses on doing 20 things "meh."
|3 years 11 weeks ago||Ironically||
Sad, I hope they don't find that it was caused by something silly like some exec leaving on a space heater or something.
Ironically, the Man vs Food episode that was filmed there was on TV yesterday...
|3 years 11 weeks ago||Serious?||
Ron English? You Serious, Clark?
|3 years 11 weeks ago||I took it as||
I took it as: They finally did the right thing in abandoning the run, but it's further proof of how bad we are on offense that we couldn't run on a team that recently got gashed on the ground.
|3 years 13 weeks ago||Cara||
I believe he is referencing the CARA forms that were part of the Rich Rod sanctions and how their mishandling actually pre-dated Rich.

|3 years 14 weeks ago||Maybe||
Maybe. He's no longer CEO of Dominos but he is chairman of the board of directors. I'm sure still holds a fair amount of stock. Has one of the highest salaries listed in the public U of M salary record. There is also a thing around U of M called "defered compensation" which does not show up on the public reports. Basically a way to hide bonuses.
|3 years 15 weeks ago||Holy Running Game||

The old voting system can't get here soon enough.
|3 years 15 weeks ago||Yeah||
Yeah I understand the counterpoint of staying the course. There have been flashes of pretty fun looking things.
It just feels like being in a relationship with somebody who makes you feel like crap 6 days out of the week, but then goes out of their way to make you feel like the most appreciated/loved person ever on day 7.
|3 years 15 weeks ago||I must see||
I must see Al working somewhere else.
I can't handle the variance. I think I actually enjoyed watching one game the whole season, ND. We're 3 plays away from being 4-8 while simultaneously being 4 plays away from being 11-1.
Narduzzi drinking Al's milkshake with the world's largest twisty straw for three straight years drives me nuts.
OSU in the national title game 2 years removed from scandal, and still on probation drives me nuts.
Penn State being better than us with a skeleton team drives me nuts.
Seeing Malzahn completely turn around Auburn twice in 5 years just shows the kind of impact that a smart offensive coach can have. A school like Michigan should have the will and resources to go get a similarly smart coach.
