Encouraging? We have a long way to go until encouragin is a word I'd use to describe our O line situation. What we're brining back on the offensive line I would deem discouraging. We are much less proven going into 2014 than we were going into 2013.
What did the interior of our O line prove last year? That they were the worst in the history of the school? That's about it.
I may be in the minority, but I would be more encouraged if none of the guys who started last year start this year, it will mean that we have better options than the worst group of O linemen in school history.

Don't like all the talk of getting bigger at LB, we need more speed at LB IMO. But, to that end, Ryan is faster than Morgan, Ross is very fast, and Gedeon is big and fast, so maybe this makes us faster as well as bigger. I am warming up to this. The negative is that we're moving our best defensive player to a new and totally different position. That's an unknown. The positive is that this might make us both bigger and faster at LB overall.
Beyer belongs at DE IMO, not athletic enough to play LB.
Hey, this is a make or break year for a lot of players and coaches, no excuses in 2014. These guys need to perform or wholesale changes are needed.

1 or 2 years ago if Hoke would have made the move with Ryan, there would have been zero questions even though at face value I don't like it. I would have just said, "In Hoke I trust."
Now, I just don't like the move, period. Ryan's athleticism is ideal for holding the edge and making plays, he's played the position his whol career and shown All American ability there. Mike is a totally different position that requires a totally differet skill set.
We'll see, maybe I'm wrong, I surely don't know as much about the position and about Ryan as our coaches do.

Hopefully they used up all their shooting, 17 3s for Sparty.
They also have 25 assists on 27 baskets, that worries me more than their hot shooting.

This story is not going away and that stinks. The fact of the matter is the administration is going to have to tell the public more about this or it's just going to foster more suspicion. We really don't know what happened as far as the program goes. Maybe they screwed up, maybe they didn't, I don't know because they don't think they caan talk about it.

All I care about is winning on the road Tuesday night. Drop that game and I don't see us winning the B1G title.
|4 weeks 16 hours ago||He obviously can play SDE||
He obviously can play SDE IMO, he's big enough right now. He'll put on some weight, but hopefully not too much, Taco is athletic and fast at about 265 lbs, keeping that athleticism and speed is more important in my opinion than bulking up to 285+. Speed and athleticism kills at the DE position, not bulk.

Didn't have much hope. Seems like a good kid, his folks seem a little overbearing and too publicly involved in his recruitment.
Glad he's not going to MSU, but man, sure seems like his parents don't want the kid to go where he wants to go, and thaat's never a good thing IMO.

Anyone think the whole reason she didn't press chargers was because of the threats? She sure seemed like someone who did the right things after the incident.

This case is disturbing to say the least. And Taylor Lewan might have threatened then victim? What the hell is going on here?
|5 weeks 4 days ago||Disgusting!I had heard the||
I had heard the rumors before, but to think the University took 3 years to do anything about this is disgusting to me. I don't want to hear about a rule change, this was wrong.
And I also don't appreciate this being kept hush hush when he was missing the Bowl game.

McDowell is in fact visiting Sparty this weekend and he did in fact eliminate Ohio State too. Not been looking good for us for a while IMO.
Mone looked very good to me, but I guess he struggled mightily in practice at the UA AA game. One week of practice means nothing IMO, this kid is going to be great, I'm no less excited about him now than I was a few weeks ago.

20 recruits count towards team rankings. So even if a school has 25 recruits, only 20 of them go towards the teams score. We still have a small class, I think it's a good class, npot what we've been used to in the last couple years, but still great for as small as it is.
And I'll take Peppers over any player in the country.
|6 weeks 4 days ago||Hopefully he comes back into||
Hopefully he comes back into the fold. Borges was the primary reason he committed to us, he had a very good relationship with him. I don't think we are out of this, but we have to rebuilda relationship with Harris and his family.
Damn, talk about ruining my Tuesday.
|6 weeks 4 days ago||LOL!||
Closet Sparty? Not a chance. Call it like I see it though, and I would be shocked at this point if we landed McDowell.
I'm basing this off this week's quote from McDowell himself, "I'm just liking Michigan State a lot right now," McDowell said. "It's all the coaches and there's a good chance I can come in and play early. Plus I like the type of weather here because it's cold. I like that." For a kid who has been extraordinarily tight lipped throughout the process, he's certainly sounding like MSu is his favorite.
Coupled with the fact that Dantonio will have an in home with he and his folks today and it's likely Malik is taking an official to MSU this weekend rather than LSU. He also talked about OSU being off his list now.
I think McDowell is an important recruiit for us. He fits what we are trying to build perfectly, but I just don't see him coming here.
|6 weeks 6 days ago||Thought McDowell was off the||
Thought McDowell was off the table for us now. He's visiting MSU next weekend instead of LSU. Would love to get back in it with the state's #1 recruit in McDowell, but it seems like he's made up his mind he is not going to Michigan.

OSU will not be all that good this year, I see 9-3 or 8-4 for them.
Sparty? Hate to admit it, but that defense they had this season was extremely deep, sure they lose several guys in their two deep, but they played 3 deep all season. They had the kind of depth on defense I hope we have in a year or two. Watching the stupid Rose Bowl there were guys making big plays for their defense whose numbers I had never seen before and whose names I had to look up. They look loaded on defense and I don't see them dropping off too far on that side of the ball. Offensively, they lose 3 O linemen, but they rotated 8 or 9 guys every game all season. Especially frusrating that they can find 8 or 9 competent O linemen and we couldn't find 3. Their offense should be pretty good next year. They'll get smoked at Oregon, but I see a 10-2 or 9-3 Sparty in the thick of it to get back to Indy.
As for us. 4 very tough road games, but pretty easy schedule outside of that. I can see 10-2 as the ceiling, 9-3 would be good, 8-4 is most likely, 7-5 would mean a huge failure and a coaching change IMO.

A lot of attrition weeds out all of the players who haven't bought in. The ones who stay feel like they have something to prove. Plus, it's exciting, new coaches bring in new ideas, everyone buys in. The players who buy in no matter what buy in, but also the players who maybe lose faith after a couple years buy in for a while too.
Plus a fresh set of eyes can pinpoint what was wrong and fix it right away. Pick the low hanging fruit so to speak. As someone who's been in management and moved around to different departments, it's always easy to come in and dramatically improve things at first by just fixing the obvious, much harder to continue to make gains as time goes by.
Then a couple years later a lot of the talent that stayed graduates and there can be a little step back while the new players grow and become upperclassmen. I think we're going through this now and maybe next year, OSU will go through it next year and maybe the year after.
|9 weeks 16 hours ago||There qas zero chance Smith||
There qas zero chance Smith or Lattimore were coming here. There is about the same % Jeff Jones is coming here. I still think we have a slight chance at getting McDowell though.
|9 weeks 17 hours ago||First of all, I'd be very||
First of all, I'd be very surprised if Jones came here, we're late tot he game, and if he doesn;t stick with Minny there are a few other schools he's developed a strong relationship that would get him before we do.
Green has a lot to prove next season, hope he works hard. Smith looked like he had more ability than Green to be honest, better vision, burst, and cutting ability. I pray to god that Harris stays with us because he looks incredible.
|9 weeks 1 day ago||Rough year, but there were||
Rough year, but there were some great moments. Overall pretty awful starting with the Penn State game. Since then, it's been bad bad and more bad. The MSU game, Nebraska game, De'Shawn Hand, Iowa Game, Ohio game, McGary, George Campbell, K State game. Sparty wins Rose Bowl and will finish #2, ugh ugh and more ugh.
2014, please be better to us.
|9 weeks 2 days ago||We'll be picked to finish 3rd||
We'll be picked to finish 3rd in the East, MSU and OSU will be #1 and #2.
There's a lot to be optimistic about, but there's also a lot to be worried about, mainly the coaching, if they are a bad staff, we're not going to imrpove.
|9 weeks 2 days ago||Depth||
The key to any good defense is depth and it's no different with the Spartan defense, I watched that game and saw players all game on defense whose numbers I didn't recognize, they go 2 and 3 deep at every position and they play them all.
I saw a DT, #87, make a great TFL, I wondered, who the heck is that? Looking it up he's their 3rd string guy Brandon Clemens (A 4 star recruit incidentally). They haved their 3rd string players mking great plays in the biggest game of the season.
We're developing some depth ourselves, think we're a couple years from having that type of depth, but we'll get there. Really think we can have a top 10-15 defense in the country next season. MSU next year? Still think they'll have an elite defense, not top 5, but still top 10-15, I think they proved yesterday that they are capable of dealing with the loss of their good starters. Harris and Elsworth played great for Bullough and they did not miss a beat.
I've said it before, we can't expect MSU or OSU to come back to the pack, it's up to us to improve and get to that level.

But, Congrats Sparty, they were the better team today. At least the B1G saves a little face.

HAte to say it, but Sparty is really really good.
|9 weeks 3 days ago||Huh?||
I read that we made his top 7, which is it?
|9 weeks 4 days ago||No way||
No way in hell would I root for MSU!!! The MAU fans at the office are already incredibly annoying, winning the Rose Bowl would take them to another level.
Think about this, if MSU wins convincingly and Bama loses with Auburn winning on a fluke, it's feasable that MSU could get some AP votes for #1 overall. They could very easily finish #2 and be #1 in a least a few writer's eyes. I don't think we want Ohio State and Michigan State both contending for National Titles.
|9 weeks 5 days ago||ND is a good job, but not as||
ND is a good job, but not as good as it should be, why? Same reason as we aren't as good of a job, the donors and administration meddle way too much in the football program.
As far as recruiting? ND has outrecruited us in 3 out of the last 4 years, kids will always want to go to ND, just as they will always want to come here.
|9 weeks 5 days ago||Coaching changes? Why do||
Coaching changes? Why do people think there will be changes. Hoke has already come out in support of Borges and Borges just lost a bowl game, but with a freshman QB who looked decent. Funk? Not going to happen. Jackson? Maybe he retires, that's all I see happening.
