We did Mackinac for our honeymoon last year in July. We stayed in St. Ignace and were really happy with our decision to stay off the island and felt we had more freedom.
Traverse City is also an excellent choice if you are into wine tasting.

I really didn't think he was going blue and thought for sure Kareem was. I am beyond excited to see what these guys will be doing for our team in a few years. Ready to bully inferior teams around again.

I was weirdly loyal to the Foxsports website a few years back. I left because I could no longer take the constant terribleness of Jason Whitlock (and Mark Kriegel)
Even worse, he relished upsetting people because he thought he must be writing good articles because it upset people...when in fact it was because his logic and reasoning were horribly flawed.
His success really has bothered me so I'm glad he's knocked down a peg.

This comment for some reason made me giggle like a school girl. Thanks.
Great video though I am a sucker for hype videos. This is a big season to at least restore some faith.

The perpetual argument and disagreement that I think I will always have with this site is the glory of the Rich Rod offense.
It absolutely melts bad defensive units, usually beats mediocre defenses, and can't get the job done against the elite ones. Rodriguez's last year at Michigan made that clear to me and I keep following his teams every year hoping to eventually be proven wrong.
The Pac 12 was a good place to hide from elite D's last year. Oregon was the best defense Arizona played at rank 31....and yes the Wildcats won the first round by a touchdown but Oregon had a bunch of injuries that game. Arizona also got crushed by them only scoring 13 points in the rematch.
Many were lamenting that we didn't keep Rich Rod after that Oregon win, yet Michigan had to play Minnesota 34th, Penn State 7th, Michigan State 22nd, and Ohio State 26th ranked defenses. I doubt he would have had any more success than he did when he was here when he played against the really good units.
A good team does not necessarily a great defense make and that's in my eyes where the stats go wrong. He could face a top 10 team with another great offense and bad defense and have great success scoring against them. Opponent adjusted...this would look very good but be misleading when talking about the offense vs. good defenses.

The lack of pro style QBs is something I've thought about in the last few drafts. I think it's one of those issues that not enough people see yet but will be a big deal in a few years if spread QBs continue to disappoint in the NFL.
Although many spread QBs have had limited success in the pros I don't think it's enough yet to say clear cut that if you want to be an NFL QB then you need to learn a pro style system in college.
If it does get to that point though it will be interesting to see if it has an impact on recruiting or a shift back to more pro style offenses in college to attract QBs by saying "come to School X, we teach you how to be in the NFL"

Ace, I appreciate your work on this site, but you have this atrocious way of wording valid points that makes you sound like you are talking from on top a pedestal down to us plebes and drives me crazy.
I stayed away from the Hello post because I knew what was coming. Carter is a commit to the University of Michigan and should be celebrated because he is joining my favorite team in all of sports. I always love the idea of legacy recruits too.
...but it's very understandable to question the offer and his abilities based on what we've seen so far (AKA nothing) when it seems Michigan has a lot of interest from highly rated prospects.
People should speak with tact but should not feel the need to hold back on a worthy point....and it does not matter who is reading/listening. You yourself said you have no idea what to expect from him in your hello post. How many times has that happened before? People should not be villified for questioning any of this.
In the end, I hope and have complete faith Dunaway gets a fuel lit under him to work harder than ever to prove that he was worthy of the offer...especially since his family knows the Michigan way.

I am reserving judgment for now. I saw the Avengers 2 teaser and thought that it was going to be terrible before seeing the actual trailer which completely turned my opinion around.
I grew up on watching the classic Justice League cartoons and also really enjoyed the new Justice League cartoon as an adult so I want them to get this right. It's hard to have high hopes for Zach Snyder and Jesse Eisenberg though who are two people I find very overrated.

This post will probably be buried and I'm wasting my typing but...
Right when the major criticism of Brandon started I got to hear plenty of interesting things from the Brandon camp from my friend who works with one of Brandon's best friends and was a former UM football player in the early 1970's.
Brandon blamed everything on the board of regents and said it was divided based on party lines. He was especially critical of Denise Ilitch and Mark Bernstein. Brandon said Ilitch did things to thwart the positive actions he was trying to take for the university. For example, (and forgive me that I forget the exact details now) Brandon wanted to hold some sort of fundraiser I think in the Big House and have all the profits go to something specific for the school. Instead, Ilitch changed it so that it was about selling her jewelry and took a large cut of the profits from the event.
Brandon said this was a constant problem and wished that people understood that it's not him who is doing many of the things he was criticized for.
Even better....after the famous emails were reported, President Schlissel came into Dave's office and very directly said I want your resignation letter on my desk by this afternoon.
My friend didn't want me saying anything at the time but I figured enough time has passed that it's okay now. It's at least interesting to hear how Brandon defended himself.

The Daily Show was my favorite show for a good length of time. Then Steve Carell left, then Colbert left, then Ed Helms was gone, then Rob Corddry (or something similar) and while there were plenty of good correspondents after, they never got to the same level.
For me, Jon Stewart has a great delivery but to me was never really the main comedy of the show. It was harder to watch when he became more activist and preachy with his show rather than a satirist. I agreed with him a lot but it was uncomfortable when he became a flat out jerk to his guests he disagreed with which he did more and more over the years. Still, it will be tough to find someone who can replace him.

WD, the reason I have mixed feelings about you and the reason I am guessing others seem to feel negatively towards you is your sense of self importance on this site. You're on here seemingly every minute of the day and you should know no one else does this. There are other options. It's great you apologized for your comment possibly being misinterpreted but when you say it in a post to everyone it comes off as you trying to let all of us know that you're a nice guy because you feel you are important enough for the rest of us to care.

Smart move by Gardner and he will get a couple shots at least. Homerism aside, unless he shows something special at Michigan's pro day I doubt he gets drafted. He will get a quick call as a free agent pickup and hopefully be able to make at least a practice squad from there.
|29 weeks 5 days ago||It's so fun because there are||
It's so fun because there are so many ways to look at this.
If you look at record, followed by best losses, they should not be in. Between TCU's loss to Baylor, Baylor's loss to West Virginia, and Ohio State's loss to Virginia Tech, OSU clearly has the worst loss.
OSU's schedule though isn't actually as bad as some have argued based on winning record teams. They beat Cincinnati 9-3, Navy 6-5, Maryland 7-5, Rutgers 7-5, Michigan State 10-2, Minnesota 8-4, and Wisconsin 10-3. That's 7 (not including 6-6 Penn State) with some bonus points for the MSU and Wisconsin games since those are 10 win teams.
TCU beat Minnesota 8-4, Oklahoma 8-4, West Virginia 7-5, and Kansas State 9-3 (not including 6-6 Texas or 6-6 Oklahoma State). That's only 4.
Baylor beat TCU 11-1, Oklahoma 8-4, and Kansas State 9-3 (again not including 6-6 Texas or 6-6 Oklahoma State) That's only 3....but with a head to head win against TCU.
But then you could say...well let's eliminate non Power 5 conference teams. That would eliminate Navy and Cincinnati giving OSU only 5 wins against Power 5 winning teams. And then you could say well what about strength of conference? The Big Ten was pretty terrible in out of conference games this year meaning those Rutgers and Maryland wins (which I've heard many including Brian on here refer to as "terrible" teams) should not mean very much.
That means OSU would have 3 wins against legit opponents to TCU's 4 and Baylor's 3.
But your AP voter argument is "well ignore that early season loss against a bad team like we always do" because Ohio State is playing the best football right now and just proved it by obliterating a really good Wisconsin team. The Big 12 doesn't even have a conference championship game and Ohio State had to play 13 games instead of 12.
|31 weeks 5 days ago||Even if we had lost all the||
Even if we had lost all the same games we did this year there could still be an argument for keeping a coach if the cupboard was bare, the players were extraordinarily young, injuries prevented a bunch of stars from playing etc......but when you keep making dumb dumb coaching decisions week after week that hurt the players you gotta go.
I can't believe I actually wanted Michigan to run the ball three straight downs sometimes this week just to throw Maryland off balance. You can do that when the running game is actually working!

|33 weeks 2 days ago||So, let's see if I have this||
So, let's see if I have this right.
1. Hoke puts together a class of guys who want to play for him and his coaching staff.
2. Michigan has terrible year vs. expectations
3. Michigan fanbase puts pressure on President to fire AD to get an AD to fire Hoke
4. Commits explore other options based on the uncertainty in the program
5. Blame Hoke for poor recruiting??
Bit unfair no? I guess you could argue that #4 happened before #3 but it was not til the whole hot seat talk really got going and after the Morris concussion scandal that recruits started dropping like flies.
I'm still for firing Hoke. It just annoys me when it seems like people are clinging to any possible reason to fire him and giving him (and the team) absolutely no credit for winning games against teams like Northwestern and Penn State. Yeah they are supposed to be inferior competition, but at least we still won the games. He still should get fired for having not won a big game since year one but at least credit the man for winning some games.
|34 weeks 2 days ago||I do not buy the argument one||
I do not buy the argument one bit that season tickets will take a drastic hit if Hoke is retained. It's the wrong argument to keep bringing up, which you have continued doing. The great thing about season ticket holders are that they tend to be loyal fans and like any fans will rekindle their sense of optimism in the offseason. "Most of those young players from last year's team are coming back!" "Hoke finally has the quarterback made for his system!" "Morris has drastically improved in practice since last year" "The wide receivers have become more explosive" "The offensive line finally has chemistry!"...and so on
Yes, I agree that a splashy new coach (like a Harbaugh) would boost optimism and likely boost demand for season ticket sales, but I do not expect it to fall off like you do if Hoke stays.

Expect Brandon to show up in some capacity with the Dolphins. I have been told from someone who works with one of Brandon's close friends (and a former Michigan football player) that Ross offered him a job if he resigns. According to the friend, Brandon has been resistant because he wants to be at Michigan

I wasn't bothered at all by the ESPN announcers talking about tangential stuff. Remember, the information we receive and constantly hear as visitors to this blog makes us in the minority. There are plenty of people out there watching that broadcast who need to hear what was being said because it was new to them.
I agree with you on Hoke's timeout at the half. The percentages of good stuff happening for Michigan are much higher than good stuff happening for PSU if you called a timeout with 7ish seconds left. Calling it with 2 seconds left is a bit different to me though.
|38 weeks 6 days ago||I was not a critic of this||
I was not a critic of this feature when both of you picked Utah. The pick made sense and you both ended up being right so extra kudos.
I was also not a critic when you both said the haters can shove it (somewhat douchily when you both brought up your professional qualifications as a doctor and lawyer, as if that mattered but oh well) because we were right but we'll appease you by both picking Michigan.
This week though, come on. Both of your stories were interesting and I enjoyed reading them but this is supposed to be a humorously written prediction column for the Rutgers game. Can't you save the stories for a diary or something?
You both still care if this team wins today or not. Yes, a loss won't affect you like a Michigan loss is supposed to and a win won't mean the program is even close to cured with anything wrong with it but it still matters.
|39 weeks 8 hours ago||I don't think I'll ever like||
I don't think I'll ever like Rich Rod. I disagree with a coach yelling furiously at his players like he does after mistakes and specifically throwing them under the bus in press conferences and interviews. I saw him do that at least once in the game last night. I don't find that called for in a college coach.
I mean I fucking hate how we have gone the complete opposite way with Hoke and have a guy who seems passionless on the sidelines and gives you such generic bullshit in press conferences that you have to wonder if he even understands what's happening.

Yeah I listened on the radio. Brandy said that Nussmeier tried to take him out but Morris waved him off. They didn't make a giant deal out of it though IIRC as I heard they did on the TV broadcast
|39 weeks 5 days ago||I meant this year...this is||
I meant this year...this is college and teams tend to change significantly year to year. Call me when they beat all those teams THIS year.
It's like saying you beat Florida State last year versus Florida State this year. Last year they were an elite team. This year they are good to great but not elite yet you know the second someone beats them (and they will) they are going to treat it as the biggest thing in the world.
|39 weeks 5 days ago||Oh fuck that argument before||
Oh fuck that argument before it gets going (nothing personal against you).
Arizona is a spectacular 4-0 after barely beating UTSA (3 points) who has been playing division 1 football for two years I think?, barely beating a California team (4 points) that has one of the worst defenses in the country despite playing bad competition so far, a decent Nevada team by 7, and a solid win over 1-4 UNLV who improbably has a worse defense than Cal.
Call me when Rich Rod starts beating Oregon, USC, UCLA, Utah and you'll have me convinced we made a mistake.

Just curious...but do you have a worse seat than Heiko did? It seems like you miss a question or part of a question every presser.
I'm still looking foward to Big Ten play and it seems like the players are too. It's the fun of finding out if we can get better or if we're guaranteed looking for a new coach in Decemeber.
