Obligatory...Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!
I said it last year and I'm saying it again. We get 13 Michigan games a year and then 9 painfully agonizing offseason months of waiting for the next season.
I'm not giving up on any season as painful as it can be to watch because Michigan games are too rare of a commodity

Wow, do we need a "well" count on Nussmeier also?

Seriously fuck that guy.
I was trying to keep an open mind (since some of these accusations aren't what you first hear) when it was reported she attacked him first and she clearly forgave him quickly since she married him within a month which I thought might be admitting her guilt.
But seriously, now I see what really happened I can say with all certainty he's a lowlife piece of shit. Just losing his job is the minimal of what he deserves.

I'm so sick of having squads that are equally as talented as the opposition and then to not just lose but to miserably fail.
That's where coaching needs to take place. This year's Notre Dame vs. Michigan game should have been around a coin flip talent wise. Instead, it looked like a massacre because one side has proven coaches and the other side seems to look clueless in big moments especially on the road.

Nothing personal and this is me just still smarting from yesterday....but who the fuck cares this year?
If I could get over that feeling....I would say our division ends up Michigan State, Michigan, then Ohio State. Michigan State beats Nebraska in the championship game.

There's no arguing that Rich Rod teams could move the ball at will???? How do you forget so quickly? I certainly remember getting crushed by teams with sound defenses. Ohio State, Mississippi State, Michigan State etc.
Our offense crumbled against those teams and put up lots of points on weaker defensive teams. It's great to beat the weaker teams by a lot with an exciting offense, but I want a team that can compete with anyone.
I'm all for spread concepts but I don't agree that a completely spread offense is the way to succeed.

I know how you're feeling. I'm trying to convince myself that this is just one game that's historically a toss up that happened to not go our way this time and we are 1-1.
Losing to Notre Dame wouldn't have been bad...but god the way we lost just screams doom and gloom for the year. That hasn't happened yet though. Remember those old seasons of Michigan's past (think years like 2007 with the Horror and Oregon) where the sky seemed to fall in the beginning and then we ended up having a respectable year? That's why I'm still supporting our team.
The largest thing I've felt has been missing from our teams in the past five-ish seasons is improvement. We don't seem to get better as the year goes on.....if that happens this year though we may be okay!

Did we really not have another receiver "stepping up"? It sure looked to me on a lot of plays our receivers were getting open and there was a pocket to throw in but Devin panicked and then took a sack or ran for a few yards before going down. I think he has lock on syndrome with Funchess exactly like he had with Gallon last year. It's brutal.
I don't think the O-line was great by any means but they weren't as abysmal as Gardner made them seem. I really hate to critique the guy because he's been through one of the most challenging periods in Michigan history and basically destroyed himself last year for the team....howeva, he played very terribly today and did a lot to cost us even a hope of being competitive. Sadly, he was still our best option to put in at QB.

Kick the field goal. Maybe if the run on 3rd down went for 5 yards and it was 4th and 4 then you consider going for it on 4th down....but 4th and 9 was just silly the way our whole team was playing.
|2 weeks 2 hours ago||I very rarely watch the game||
I very rarely watch the game with fans of other schools or Mich fans that are mostly uninformed about even basic stuff. Tonight, I was convinced to watch the game with a couples friend who is a huge Notre Dame fan...thinking it would be competitive. Possibly the worst decision ever.
I don't even know who to blame anymore but this team does not look like what I know Michigan as. I don't even know what Michigan is anymore. A consistently middling, formerly important program is what it feels like.
I'm very tired of looking at old seasons of football to remember years that didn't hurt so badly.
|2 weeks 3 hours ago||I stopped drinking my||
I stopped drinking my Newcastle once I realized it has been 30 years since we last were shut out and had no business getting shut out this game. I wanted this one to hurt and man it does without the alcohol.
I'm having a crisis of fandom right now that I'm sober-ish.
#1 We look like shit when it seemed like there was soooo much to be hopeful about.
#2 The Big Ten looks like it has no fucking chance of getting a team in the playoff, which basically makes winning the B1G fucking meaningless this year. Can't hope for that even as much of a pie in the sky dream that seems for this team right now
#3 We have no hope of beating Michigan State on the road. No hope. Maybe Ohio State? But probably not.
#4 We lost our 30 year non shutout record which in horrible blowout losses in the last five years has been the one thing I could take some solace in after losing our fucking 40 year non losing seasons streak.
What do I cheer for anymore in the terrible or disappointing seasons? Yay! We won 7 games!.....
|2 weeks 1 day ago||I like this question. It||
I like this question. It really depends how strongly I feel about my defense, offense, kicker, and special teams coverage but with that much time left and a reasonable kicker I probably kick the field goal.
Field goal takes a few seconds off the clock. If we make it..on the kickoff I either boot it out the back of the end zone or half pooch it to not risk the return. Then I'm forcing the other team to go 70 yards in maybe 18 seconds to beat me. Even with 3 time outs you're talking a maximum of probably 6 plays left and likely less.
If you miss the field goal that's still 40 yards with 20 seconds left to tie.
If there were more time on the clock probably 45 seconds or higher I think I would go for it on 4th down.

I was all set to take Denard with my last fantasy pick but then saw that he was listed on Yahoo as a WR and had too many of those already. Sadness.

Run defense has me slightly concerned but they were going up against an offensive line with a lot of experience, so at least it's slightly warranted.

I'm disappointed not because she's a woman. It's because she's an uninteresting play by play announcer IMHO. She doesn't add anything to my experience of watching games especially on the big plays.

What's the point of a rival though if they suck? Minnesota is as useless as a rivalry gets considering we play for a trophy because we're almost always more talented and almost always win.
Don't misunderstand me either. I am not looking for a close game. I want them to regret every time they snap the ball because they know the futility of running another play. I want that to happen though because Michigan has developed guys better and has a higher level of talent. I want to see the best Ohio State has that season and crush it.
I don't want them to have any excuse as to why they lost other than "Michigan is better." I've seen several people including Michigan fans knock Michigan a bit for barely being able to beat one of the worst teams in Ohio State history a few years back.
|5 weeks 8 hours ago||I know there might be a tinge||
I know there might be a tinge of "yay OSU star injured so Michigan has a better chance of winning the game" in this news just like about Notre Dame suspending four players but I really want these teams to be at their best when we beat them. Not play their best...because I hope Michigan would be doing things to make that impossible but I think you get it.
I want OSU riding another undefeated season heading into the game and crushing their dreams of getting to the playoff by beating them and getting our spot in the Big Ten championship game instead.
I don't wanna "luck" (and I use that very loosely since it's never just luck) into a ten win season due to injuries or fortuitous scheduling.
It's why last year over OSU would have been such a delicious victory and many commentators talking about the Big Ten championship game loss last year would have been claiming OSU took the loss to Michigan hard enough to make them lose twice in a row.

There's a bit too much ahole in this thread.
Scott Mitchell was the best thing around the Lions QB position for a while. Yes, maybe that's not saying much and there were better QBs out there but his successors on the Lions were pretty terrible until...Stafford?
Good for him to at least be trying to lose the weight regardless of him getting into that position in the first place.

I don't know that people hate soccer on here as much as you think. I love soccer and grew up playing it but I do not want to read about the U.S. men's international team when I come to a Michigan sports blog. Good on you for trying to get people more invested locally in soccer.
Fun fact....if anyone happened to read that article on mgoblue or on mlive the other day about how the Michigan soccer team surprised two elderly guys while they were eating with tickets for the Man U Real Madrid game...they did it partially on behalf of my cousin David who was a marine. My facebook was blowing up about it with how excited some of my family was.
|10 weeks 1 day ago||Oregon's offense is||
Oregon's offense is impressive but it's a little less impressive when you realize how many average to bad defenses they pile on points against.
I was able to win a lot of money two years ago when they faced Stanford because up until then they had played a defense with an average rank of around 70 and were crushing them by 50 points a game. Stanford had a top 10 or so defense at the time and the line was something like Stanford +20.
Of course most of the pundits don't pay attention to things like that and go "Ooooo points!"

I'm awaiting the trailer for our next game.
"They weren't expected to make it this far (cue clips of people saying the U.S. won't advance). Against the odds, they survived the group of death (clip of some U.S. goal highlights). Now, they take on Belgium in the knockout stage, where it's win or go home. FIFA World Cup. United States. Belgium. Tonight, 6:00 P.M. on ABC."
|12 weeks 5 days ago||Agreed completely alum. It's||
Agreed completely alum. It's not that Bradley gave the ball away and it indirectly led to the goal. It's that he had multiple options in that situation a player of his level should have known to exercise that would have given Portgual no hope.
Bradley overall played much better than he did against Ghana, but his gaffe opened a window for Portugal that was entirely within his control to shut completely.
It's tough to absolve Cameron from blame either. It's like praising a defensive back who played great the entire game but then gave up two crucial touchdowns and your team ended up losing by a few points...those were big plays. That clearance has to be made and is expected to be made. Even though screwing that up happens to everyone (just like goalies letting an easy save through their grasp for a goal) it's still their fault. His mistakes were huge ones and cost us dearly even if overall his play was good.

I think it's MORE informative when you see this chart with the players we know are no longer on the team.
I might have bolded the names of the players currently on the team in case anyone is forgetting though since I think that makes the information jump out more clearly.
As evidenced by some of the posts even in this thread we need a good year just for people to quit bitching about the team they love. This chart gives me a lot of hope for next season.

I don't think you would have caught much flak if you wrote an ode to our current Michigan QB but when it's currently a 16 year old future attendee of Michigan it's very weird.

|14 weeks 3 days ago||Really? I mean yeah I would||
Really? I mean yeah I would have liked to win the national title but we needed a miracle to get there and lost to the one team that looked like the best team in the tournament.
Think how you would be feeling if Michigan lost to Kansas (and we still got to the Elite 8 this year). Rather than "John Beilein is the best coach in college basketball" it would be something like "Michigan is back to being respectable in basketball thanks to Beilein." Much less exciting.
