Regardless of your subject/object and noun/verb snafus, I want to tase the guy who tased the guy who rushed the field in Philly. He should at least know how it feels if he isn't willing to tackle the guy. I have nothing wrong the taser itself, but I just think its implementation here takes the fun out of the go-get-'em atmosphere that is the good old days of fan-running-on-the-field-mania.

Aren't Cameron Crazies Duke fans? Isn't most of a school's fans knowing something about basketball a necessary condition for that school's fans to be "some of the most knowledgeable"?
Despite this apparent confusion/idiocy, Duke sucks. They don't deserve to win nearly as many games as they do. Their antiquated style of being patient, pounding the ball inside, and making jump shots (this actually is a similarity between our two schools, but of course only pertaining to basketball) has found them unable to make substantial runs in the tournament recently, mainly due to their lack of athleticism. This year seems to be an exception to that rule, but I honestly believe that they luckily, narrowly, avoided the chance to play the more athletic, elite, college basketball teams, to whom they would surely have lost.

I know you're writing in broad hypotheticals here, but is it really worth it to make a change like this? or even talk about it? Moving a total of eight teams would affect so few schools that it seems rather insignificant. Particularly when there are so many problems at the top (OMGBCS).

To compete with conferences, the Big Ten has to have a championship game to step up the revenue. Also, why the hell not? Like the other responder said, a final game is exciting. The Big Ten is already a misnomer, why not make it more so?
Reilly in SI was refreshing - he took a humanistic stance on interesting stories, which contrasted well with the heavy sports output of the magazine.
Reilly on ESPN is redundant - they don't have nearly enough actual sports analysis and are far too heavy on the sappy stuff - which Reilly gets off on.
He's a good writer, with a good insight, but his arrogance and shallowness shine through far too much on t.v.

...where it isn't due seems to be the trend with these hoops updates. Saying "The Defense Returns" implies that this was a strong defensive effort where we shut down the opponent, which was just not the case. The main story of this game was not the defense returning (though Novak's block did get me way off my seat), it was the continued struggles. I can remember more than five times when Detroit got easy breakaways resulting from bad passes at the top. A few of which were Gibson's fault. The lack of a third scorer remains a glaring issue. Rebounding? What does that even mean anymore? Akunne keeps playing, which I find odd. Why is he so limp wristed?
In general, I think we are unprepared for the real season to start and optimistic posts like this one spread positivity at a time when it is clearly unsubstantiated.
My hope is that the team continues to play to the level of its competition, which will clearly be an advantage upon facing the best team in the country this week.

Much has been made about our lack of height, but I really believe that college basketball is all about how much a given team is willing to put on the line in a given night. Or in other words, the "hard" scale. One example of heart prevailing over height, I think, would be Davidson beating Wisconsin in the Sweet Sixteen two years ago. That Badger team was huge and those little guys on Davidson shut them down (with a little help from some Curry fella). Davidson employed that same trap philosophy (not unlike Beilein's approach to big men) to their next opponent, Kansas, and only lost by two.
Moral of the story: if there isn't the fire beneath this team this year that pulled them through last year's big games, it's all over. From the beginning, they've been evoking the "Hunter" mentality, but I just haven't seen it so far. Is it leadership? Maybe. Embarrassing that we can't beat less talented teams? Definitely.
It seems like it would absolutely be worth it to give him this year off. He clearly is struggling with basic basketball skills i.e. jumping and running. His size is so valuable, hence the importance of not wasting with a re-aggravated injury. Does anybody know about the possibility of getting him a second year of red-shirt? for medical purposes? I think I saw something about this from Brian recently.
There is a certain amount of truth in the vicious cycle of the bottom dwellers - i.e. finishing sixth-worst every year and not getting the best player who turns it around. So it may be worth it to throw some games at the end of the season, why the hell not? The problem, though, is that Lions seem to not be able to draft the best players even when they consistently have top-five picks. Sometimes it's a matter of character ("I Blew Everyday" anybody?) and sometimes they are just Joey Harrington and can't play in the big leagues.
Getting Suh would help, but not enough. The Lions are going to be bad for a long time.
I agree with the first comment. Why was Akunne out there for so long? Tim's recap says that he actually got first half minutes, but that omits the relevant fact: he was playing in the second half, when it counted, costing us points. He was constantly beat off the dribble and he looks far too slow to create anything on offense. "Working his ass off" sounds like giving a fourth grader an "A for Effort," hiding the fact that skill and execution were absent from the performance.
The bright spot, I think was Manny. He took a couple of bad shots early, but this looked like the first time he was back to his former self. Quicker, draining threes in Mormon eyeballs, taking it to the basket hard. That's vintage Corperryale.
Can someone explain to me how we go 11-20 from the free throw line? To me, that's a bigger problem than the shooting particularly be cause of it's hints at lack of focus.
They were all over Tate when he was hot. Saying he was going to be the next Brees (which I kind of still think, but that's against the point) and then they chastise RichRod and the whole program when we lose. They overwhelmingly sacrifice journalism to capitalize on what's hot. There aren't stories about all sports and all the teams in them, just the "cool" ones.
I don't really approve of the "what else do you watch?" argument either. It's the same rhetoric that got a bunch of German's lifting their arms and walking funny, praising a guy with a little mustache.
As far as "how do you get your sports?" I think Yahoo Sports is a better, lesser, evil, and many sports reporting blogs now (not unlike this one) do a good job of filling in the gaps.
and he's unbelievably unclutch. Speaking with a friend today, who is one of the emotionally attached, he responded to my unclutch contention by saying that "He gets triples when they count! Like in the all star game!" I laughed. I feel like every time Granderson is up in the ninth it ends up poorly. Back in the days when he was on the team, I argued strongly that he was the best centerfielder in the division (over the douche from Cleveland, of course), based on his defense and ability to hit and capitalize on his speed. Now, in my process of divesting from him, I still believe that he's better than Grady, but I think our dependence on him really hurt. A guy consistently leading the team (and near the top of the league) in strikeouts getting the most at bats for six years was a problem.
They talk about the one player who they want to promote at the time. Remember this summer when they only talked about ManRam? It's total bull. And the thing about the ESPN Chicago and LA? GIMMEABREAK
If the knee is the issue, than I think we can see the affects that is having already. In my opinion, he looks like a different player than from the last two years. Two problems point to his changed results on the court:
1. Basically zero effort on defense:
-Corey Raji's 17 points on him in the first half, and then 8 in the second frame when they switched to several others guarding him. If you watch the replay of the first half of the BC game, you will see that almost all of Raji's points were off open layups, almost all of which were a result of Manny's laziness.
-The Pine-Bluff game exhibited countless players blowing by him, leading to more of those easy layup things, as well as several lazy missed rebounds.
-The examples are plenty. He should be a leader on defense but instead, I think, looks like one of the players needing the most improvement.
2. Weak offensive performances:
-I know this controversial, but has anybody else seen a dropoff in his output in the last couple games (that is, once the real season started, in Orlando)?
-He hasn't been driving to the basket nearly as much as last year.
-Even though it should haven't been i.e. they are terrible, Pine-Bluff was a good example of this. In the first half he was barely involved in any plays on offense. Basically hanging around the three point line, looking for the ball when he wasn't open.
-The disastrous ramifications of his lack of effort in the Beilein offense are obvious.
-What appears to be worse is that (and this is difficult to quantify, but I think it has a certain legitimacy) in the first half he looked to be just trying to get his twenty or so points to secure a top draft spot, while caring little about winning. Some flashy plays here and there, but those seem to be for the highlight reels, surely not the win columns.
To qualify, I love Manny as much as, if not more than, the next guy. I think he is the most fun player to watch in college basketball and I can't wait to watch that silky smooth style excel in the NBA. I merely think he looks less motivated this year. So does everyone else on the team, but Manny especially. Getting back to the point of this response, if his knee is the reason, then I am overjoyed because of its tangible recovery. If it's more of a show-me-the-money apathy, then I think it's going a very long season.
