You can't just call division 3 division 5. The divisions actually have implications on the rules such as scholarship limits, e.g. division 3 allows no scholarships. That is across all sports. Just go back to Divisions I-A and I-AA and I-AAA. FBS means nothing anymore.

Before reading the summary, I thought that the doctor was fired for refusing to allow players with concussions play or something along those lines. The headline talks about athletes having too much power and all of the power exertion seems to have come from the AD and HC.

I'm talking in general terms here to get an idea of what each class should look like, not some hard-and-fast rule. There are also factors outside of just recruiting and graduation like red shirts and different types of attrition that this doesn't accout for. 

So, if you really want to get technical about it, OL almost always redshirt. That means you only need to recruit 4 per year to maintain a 4-deep at each position. That brings your total class size to 21. 21 x 4 = 84. Use the scholarships from attrition to get a kicker every other year and recruit for positions of need after attrition.

You say "they" but everyone involved with that is no longer at the school. The people not involved are getting the second (maybe first) worst penalty in NCAA history for something that they were never involved with. This, to me, feels like a witch hunt like the freep was doing for us.

I think the comparison is that the two of them had multiple strikes. Daryl did not take advantage of his last chance and screwed it up by violating rules. His hope is that Hagerup will follow the rules set out for him and take advantage of the new start.

I think this is one of the points he tries to get across in his books. "Good" and "bad" people have to die on both sides of the war and "good" doesn't always triumph. Generally, the death of one person leads to a major change in the story which couldn't have happened without the death, e.g. Robb becoming the King of the North. People were furious when Ned died in the show until they understood that it had to happen.

Another theme of the books is that people generally aren't truly evil and it really comes down to a matter of perspective. I have a feeling that if we had followed Tywin Lannister instead of Ned Stark in the first book, people would view Tywin as good and Ned as quasi-bad. Once you get inside someone's head, you realize that this person isn't as bad as once thought. Without looking in Ned's head, we wouldn't see his honorable qualities - we'd still hear about them from others. However, when he tries to overthrow the king in the end, he would look as traitorous as they come and no one would care that he died.

His Skee-gun offense is ridiculously awesome. I'm not surprised that players are excited about it.

I would like to point out that, as far as the show is concerned, there is no "Jeyne Westerling". The girl that Robb married in the show is Talisa Maegyr. She told him when they first met that she was from Volantis, so it's not even that they just changed her name or parts of her background; it's just a different character altogether.

He has said for quite a while that he wanted this to be 7 books. When he split book 4 into books 4 and 5, I assumed that meant that there would be 8 books. However, he stated that the plan is still for 7 books and that will be the plan until it's not, i.e. he wants to wrap it up in 7 books, but if he finds it pretty impossible to do so, then it will end up being 8 books.

I have a feeling that there is going to be some huge world event that kills half the people in book 6 and book 7 ends up wrapping things up with one major event that decides the King between two remaining players.

In the first replay, you can tell that he starts to leave his feet before just before the hit. In the second view, you can tell, especially going frame-by-frame, that his left should makes contact with the head.

My take on it is that Abdelkader intended to make a clean hit on the upper body, however, the guy bent over a bit to brace for the hit and Abdelkader's should hit him in the head. Even if it's not intentional, I still think it's something that at least needs to be called in the game and potentially further penalized outside the game. If you leave room for incidental contact to the head, then you have to make judgement calls. It's better to err on the side of safety than the side of fairness. Since they don't seem to be consistent at all, it's hard to say that this is actually their reasoning, though.

What I really don't get is how you can allow punches to the head, but then get upset with incidental contact. This should either be a violent sport or it shouldn't be. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Kingslayer is definitely a label of shame (as you put it) and he just wears it like a badge of honor because that's the only way of dealing with it.

I think the Starks were the focal point to begin with because Ned was the focal point in the first book and they all go in separate directions, which allowed GRRM to cover different aspects of the world. As more characters get introduced and become more important to the storyline, the focus moves to those characters as opposed to characters whose situations aren't really changing all that much. Robb is at war. Sansa is a hostage. Arya is trying to get home. Bran and Rickon are trying to find the three-eyed crow and basically just stay alive. Whenever one of them does something of note, it's in the show.

The Big Ten gets $5.10/year/subscriber. If 10% of current subscribers would pay for BTN for 3 months out of the year, they could charge $17/month and break even. That doesn't include those that would keep it for other sports. That's a low retention rate, and you'd get some out-of-footprint subscribers, so I'd imagine that they could probably get away with something like $5-10 and still increase profits significantly.

I thought I heard somewhere that they want to try to throw him in the fire a couple times this season to see how he does. I think the plan is to use him as a relief pitcher to get him some experience, test him out in some closing situations, then go to him full time next year.

I went through this on reddit with someone the other day.

GRRM stated in an interview a couple weeks ago that about 25% of the book is completely finished. I take that to mean that he is pretty much done with the book, he is currently revising 75% of the book, and the last 25% has gone through the editing process. If that is the case, I think we'll have book 6 in the next year. Once that comes out, that D&D have 3.5 books' worth of content to get through before they run into book 7.

In the most condensed possible form, you have season 4 finish up book 3 and start on books 4/5, season 5 finishes books 4/5, and season 6 does all of book 6. That's still 3 years, essentially, that GRRM has to release book 7. Now, if you go a little more reasonable with it, and give 1.5-2 seasons for books 4/5 and 6 (book 6 is supposedly the longest yet), then you are looking at more like 4-5 years to finish book 7.

It was also pointed out that the reason that books 4 and 5 took so long to come out was that GRRM put himself in a corner with the books and he had to go back and rewrite most of them. Hopefully, he doesn't have to do that with these next two and we get them sooner rather than later.

Someone pointed out on a reddit thread a few weeks ago that no one in Westeros is speaking English; they speak the language of the Andals. However, GRRM is translating it for us so everything should be pronounced pretty much as it looks. There is no point in having "ee" in the title and then having it pronounced with an "ay" sound. That would be like me saying my name is pronounced "Jake".

Her name is Daenerys (or Dany for short), but if you want to call her Khaleesi, at least spell it properly.

Bush is old, Denard is young. The beauty of taking Denard is that he is versatile. Stick him in slot this year, maybe some returns. When Bush leaves the team for whatever reason (he's not lasting 4 years) Denard can get some more time at RB.

I forgot to say what I'd do with the pick that the Lions would acquire for trading down. If it is a 2nd round pick, I'd use the first 2nd round pick the same as the 1st round and just grab a guy that inexplicably fell to the 2nd round. Then, I'd grab Barrett Jones with the pick that we acquired.

I don't see how the Lions can take a Guard in the first round. If one of those two OTs doesn't fall to them, then I agree that they need to trade down. I'd still like them to draft the best OT/DE/LB/DB in the first round, though. In the second round, I'd take Barrett Jones if he's still on the board. In the third, I'd take Denard if he is still available as he fits the Jahvid Best role as well as the slot role. After that, I'd just be drafting defense and see if one of those guys can stick. Maybe draft another OT if there is a guy that has fallen.

I think that this is a very narrow-minded look at things. Keep in mind that the ADs are still university employees and making the school money helps them keep their jobs (and maybe earn a raise/bonus). A university joining the CIC will earn millions of dollars in research money, generally out-weighing any other benefits of being in one particular conference.

For the splitting of the research funding to be worth it, the school needs to offer something (e.g. a quality research school or a state that will draw a lot of funding and AAU status). That's why the New York market is so important and why Maryland was a huge draw (D.C.). It's also why North Carolina, Virginia, and GIT were the next targets. Louisville and Pitt don't bring that. Missouri and Vanderbilt (as someone else mentioned) might, but I don't think you can get them away from the SEC.

Bielfeldt is probably behind McGary at the 4. Let him play and let Donnal sit a year. The only other concern for playing time for Bielfeldt is probably sliding GR3 or Irvin to the 4 when McGary sits. Considering the reasoning behind moving McGary to the 4 and GR3 to the 3, it would make more sense for Bielfeldt to get some playing time behind McGary.

The validity of this will depend on how the lawsuit between Maryland and the ACC goes. Maryland is trying to get out ofthe $50m buyout on the basis that they didn't have enough time to weigh the options of staying or leaving for another conference before that penalty was imposed. If Maryland wins and other schools decide to leave in the next year, I don't think that this is going to be enforceable based on the precendent set by the Maryland case. Only time can tell, though.

I should also point out that it sounds like there are several suspects at this point. One was killed earlier, another was taken into custody about an hour ago, there's the one that they are looking for, and there's another that was just reported wearing tactical gear. This is likely a sleeper cell and "suspect" does not necessarily mean the guy they have been chasing, but anyone associated with them as well. That means these car searches might be cars registered to people they believe to be members of the cell.

I don't think it's arguable. I think it's pretty much fact. They've only won their division 3 times. The only teams with less than that are the Jaguars, Houstons (two expansion teams), and the Jets. Win percentage: the only two teams with a lower percentage are the Houstons and the Buccaneers. Playoff wins: tied with Houston for last. Basically any category, you can bet that the Lions are there at or near the bottom. The only other team that is always there with them is Houston and that's because they've been around for about 10 years.

I agree, although, I suppose I view it the opposite way. CNN should be a credible enough source that if they report something, everyone else should be able to assume it is fact, whereas CNN's source obviously wasn't credible and CNN should have done more to make sure the information they had was fact.

In anycase, I don't normally watch/read any of them. So this whole thing just reinforces why that is.

I think this is more to maximize the amount of experience that they have on the floor. Essentially, you're taking minutes from LeVert/Irvin and giving them to Morgan/Horford. Yes, it will be nice to have a bigger line up, but you're also taking away some 3-point shooting unless McGary shows he can hit those from the corner.

I think teams press to get turnovers. 10s violations, bad passes, steals, etc. all come from pressing and you can get lots of points by getting the fast breaks from them. VCU would still benefit from this because teams would then have 20s once crossing half court instead of 25-33s. So, if they trap a guy, they will almost assuredly force a bad shot if they don't get the turnover because there will be very little time left on the shot clock once the player gets the ball out to someone else.

Besides, any change to the rules is going to hurt or benefit various teams.

You know how I know you haven't been around very long? You still think that running quarterbacks are more likely to get injured than a pocket passer.

Someone (Mathlete?) did a study on it about 4 years ago and compared the average number of games missed due to injury based on 3 categories: pocket passers, mobile quarterbacks, and running quarterbacks. Basically, there was no correlation between mobility and injury rate. The thought was that maybe running quarterbacks get injured more often, but since they are likely to be able to dodge hits, their injuries don't keep them out as long, whereas a pocket passer is either healthy or out for the season due to some major injury from being blindsided. IIRC, the mobile quarterbacks fared slightly better, although it was not statistically significant. I believe the thought behind that was that mobile quarterbacks take fewer hits because they aren't running around, but they can also dodge big hits.

Anyway, there is no evidence other than your anecdotal "evidence" that running quarterbacks are injured more often than passing quarterbacks.

We don't know that he doesn't have that kind of range. He just hasn't taken those shots in game. He has, however, taken a lot of 15' jumpers and hit them with relative ease. With the number of 3 point specialists we have on this team and his ability to drive, it wouldn't surprise me if the coaches told him not to take the 3 even if it's wide open. At the same time, it wouldn't surprise me to see him start taking those shots next year if no one is going to guard him that far away from the basket. If he can show that he can make those shots at all, it will open up things in the paint a lot more when he comes up top for a screen.

If that's full, the bar area at the Arena is workable. They're all within a couple blocks of each other."

Also, Charlie's has a good number of TVs and would be a fun place to be when we win. Ashley's has lots of craft beers and has several TVs but there are some blind spots in the bar.
