I don't get people's issues with Franks production. He was a force every game from mid 2013 on....maybe he didn't have tons of sacks, but he forced fumbles, and got plenty more tfl's...and he showed throughout his career that he could come up some big plays, even get into the end zone. I think everyone is overlooking his real talent because the 2013 and 2014 teams sucked. Frank was good enough to be a regular starter on a Lloyd Carr defense and if he had played under a coach like Carr on a successful team no one would be surprised with his second round selection.

It's good to see someone on this board express common sense and not play fake doctor/concussion expert.....go ahead, neg me while the topic is hot.
Also, if we took away helmets the game would change in dramatic fashion and would pretty much become some lame hybrid of flag football and rugby. We would also lose our winged helmets which would make me sad. Call me insensitive for talking about how this would ruin the entertainment value of the sport, but at the end of the day football is mostly about its entertainment value in America. The first thing a consumer recognises in football are the helmets. Don't come to a Michigan fanblog (where tradition and football are king) and pretend you would be totally cool with ditching our winged helmets for the sake of shall I say, political correctness in sports. Sometimes I can't believe what I read here from posters.
All that bitching and soapboxing aside, we still have Jim Harbaugh.

If we are going for blowout status I have to take 2002 msu game...just beauty, and 2003 OSU game would have been a blowout of not for braylons 95 yard td getting called back. As far as actually competitive games it's a toss up between 2003 comeback at Minnesota or 2004 braylonfest. Braylon was absolutely crucial in both comeback games. Such a fun player to watch.
I was immature and 14 during the 03 minny game and I remember stomping upstairs while watching the game we had recorded earlier, so not live. I had given up thinking we had no chance. I ended up getting on Epsn.com to see what the final score was and all I saw was a headline reading "Michigan stuns Minnesota". I came back downstairs, quit bitching about the score and preceded to watch John Navarre catch and run in a 40 yard td untouched....haven't given up on a game since.

I live Lexington.....if Cal became the coach at Michigan, I would have to eat crow for breakfast, lunch, and dinner everyday for a year for all the times I've criticised him around my friends. So I hope for that reason it is never even in the realm of possibility.
However, whenever Cal retires, I don't know what these Cats fans are going to expect. They are now so used to their current system of having 3-5 new McDonald's all American starters every year, I just don't think they could get used to someone who actually builds talent and program the way a Bo Ryan or John Beilein does....from the ground up. UK fans are very used to taking the easy path to winning by recruiting the fab5 every year.

My dad is class of 1975 and he always brings up stories about Fracassa and how great his teams were, and how rough he was when playing pickup basketball. Cool photo.

Is it just me or is Shane Morris starting to sound like Ricardo Miller 2.0? He was a recruit we got early and got excited about, then he himself became a recruiter, only to have a disappointing (so far) career at UM.....Michael Ferns comes to mind too.....
I hate recruiting coverage nowadays. I miss when you had no idea until spring before the season who was signing, and hardly knew what anyone was rated. Hell, Braylon was a low 3 star and I bet most normal fans had no idea he came out that under the radar. I miss the days of letting play on the field on Saturdays determine how good a recruit you were, not some rating system that starts evaluating you and publicising your image and highlights at age 12. I don't like getting excited about recruits only for them to live no where near expectations. Remember when some were saying "Shane may start from day 1". We are now doing the same with Malzone.

Big linemen, downhill running, solid qb play, lots of tight ends. Also since 2011 harbaugh teams have had disciplined and tenacious defense. Harbaugh puts tons of focus on having a top notch staff and being very disciplined. It's about time.

He was very athletic and played the 4 albeit at 6'6'. Basically until we start playing real defense, competing for rebounds, and have a legit inside presence, we will have multiple teams like this one. Why do you think izzo's teams are always good?
I'm sorry for committing an mgoblog cardinal sin and criticizing belein while giving a nod to izzo, but it's the truth. We will rarely if ever again get another recruiting class like 2012.

Until Belein starts filtering in athletic big men a la mcgary or robinson iii on a yearly basis in the recruiting field....we are gonna have lots of teams like this. You simply cannot build a championship level team on 3s alone. If we are gonna play young big men, they have to be 4 and 5 star athletes that are physical, not projects like donald and Doyle. We can either do this or actually become a quality defensive and rebounding team.
All this being said, I still llike JB, but teams can defend his system when there are virtually no elite athletes on the court or people that can get offensive rebounds.

|39 weeks 5 days ago||luckily we are in a power 5||
luckily we are in a power 5 conference and not the ivy league...we also have a top 3 largest fan base in the country, Harvard does not. Something tells me our direction at some point will go closer the way of Alabama than Harvard. If Schlissel is dead set on Harvard type athletics then he will be gone soon because we will either become a perennial big10 doormat or have to move to the ivy league (which is not happening). Our fans simply won't have us becoming either kind of program or Schlissel will face the heat. Much more people know Michigan for football than academics, especially fans. We will eventually get what we want....hopefully this time.

I actually like Doyle's play off the bench more than any freshmen right now. Very disappointed with donnal so far, and do not see the upside I do with Doyle, but what do I know. Chatman looks like someone who clearly has the tools, but he needs to keep shooting and shooting and shooting in practice. DJ Wilson is the player I'm worried about right now, he looks extremely athletic and seems to have huge upside like chatman, but he looks more lost than the other freshmen.
I still look back and remember this team lost to Charlotte in a similar kind of game last year. The defense and our toughness look better now than at this time last year though. I love our big 3 right now and think they can really carry this team early as the young guys continue to develop each game....I think they are a very gritty group.
|41 weeks 6 days ago||Those were||
Those were frustrating......but most defenses of Michigan's caliber don't have a completely inept offense to play beside. Most defenses.....even great ones....have a shelf life during games. That is where a somewhat effective offense helps out.

|44 weeks 1 day ago||We act like because he isn't||
We act like because he isn't Terrell Suggs he's a disappointment. The guy came in at 217 lbs as a low 3 star guy, and now he is a legit power 5 defensive end making tfl's every week at 280 and he hasn't lost a step. The one consistent unit on this team is the d-line and Frank Clark is a big part of that. If he has another level of untapped potential, it will come in the nfl.

For the love of god, the doom and gloom talk is getting real old.....we know we aren't good this year or last...to act like we can never be good again is ridiculous.
Notre Dame wasn't very good before Kelly, even the first couple years with him they were mediocre. Florida State had some very average years, so have Bama, USC, Texas, Oklahoma etc...please stop saying Michigan will never field a top 10 to top 5 level squad again. We will, it may just take some time to figure it out. Blue blood programs with over 100 years of winning history don't just die in college football.
Have some perspective about these things people
